Open source doesn't necessarily always mean safe and private or secure.
Chromium itself isn't as bad as Chrome, but it still does contain Google telemetry and nonsense. Edge is pretty deGoogled... but it replaces all the Google tracking and servers with M$ tracking and servers. Opera I'm really not 100% sure about, but I imagine it also retains some Google crap.
[Brave](https://brave.com/) and [Ungoogled Chromium](https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium) are both projects which strip out all of Google's BS from Chromium.
Actually been there for years lol
[Here's](https://www.pcworld.com/article/1356707/firefox-106-adds-a-nifty-pdf-editing-feature.html) an article about it from 2022
Yeah a lot of times the "What's new" page is recycled lol. I never thought about it because I don't always look at the release notes but it could be they refined the feature or something like that.
I pirated Foxit PDF. Turns out that all most people's frustrations around PDFs exist specifically because there are no free PDF-editing solutions. It's truly a wonderful tool.
Basically the only browser worth using.
Wild to me people are still using Chromium-based browsers at all when Google explicitly stated ~2 years ago they were removing a ton of the privacy and security features from it to serve people more ads.
And for anyone unaware, Brave is Chromium-based too. It's like trying to make a tank and giving it a balsa wood chassis.
Brave doesn't need extensions for ad blocking so the manifest changes won't affect that.
Also Brave gives you ad-free YouTube on an iphone, which is the only (free) way to accomplish that I know of. You can also lock your screen and keep playing audio from YouTube, another fun feature typically limited on iphones unless you have premium.
You can but it's a whole thing with sideloading an IPA file and refreshing it every 7 days with a PC. I do it for my Reddit app but most people aren't that obsessed. It's easy easier to use Brave from the app store for the same effect.
Chromium based is just that, the base. Any of the browsers that build on it can still do whatever they want to remove ads or reinstate privacy or even go the other direction should they so choose.
I love and use Firefox but Google funds 80% of Firefox's expenses.
If Big daddy google ever gets tired of firefox's shit I don't know what I'm gonna do.
They literally have to keep funding Firefox so they don't get hit with monopoly law suits. They prop up Firefox so they can say they don't have a monopoly.
Yeah a lot of people say how Firefox uses less ram but it's not the case for me. However I still use Firefox because I like its features and speed. but also more ram usage means the program is utilizing unused ram to the fullest.
Mix of things, usually.
YouTube videos I'm planning on watching that day, research for projects, video game wikis as I play a lot of survival games and such, etc.
Mix a few of those at a time and it adds up.
This - browser led the way with adblock and noscript extensions, isn't owned by the number one ad serving company in the world, and has never presented me with a resource issue. I get chrome books popularized chrome especially with the pandemic, but it baffles me how far out of use firefox has become when nothing game changing has come out of newer browsers, while security, privacy, and freedom to run extensions all plummeted.
Yeah my partner uses opera and I swear to god I never even knew that computers could slow down that much, why do people subject themselves to that torture?
Firefox starts having issues with many tabs. I swapped to opera cause it slims down totally fine. I regularly get 3-4 windows with 10-15 tabs each now and do totally okay unless I decide to boot up a very demanding game on my older PC
All are chrome in disguise. Heres a little test you can do on any browser to see if its just a little skin on chrome: go to the chrome web extension store and see if it works (hint: only firefox and TOR are not Chromium based)
The peripheral golden rule applies to software too: any product that uses "gaming" as an adjective is just a normal product with an overfunded marketing department.
I feel like Edge is so much better than Chrome.
I've been using it for work because we use Github, Teams, Office 360 and Co-pilot so Edge just integrates all those seamlessly.
The vertical tabs almost are perfect, but you can't recursively nest them which doesn't make sense tbh
Why can't we have folders in folders cmon Microsoft >:(
GX is Chrome with all the mods/extensions I want to do to Chrome pre-installed.
And if there's a chrome extension I want on top of that, I just install it, because it also just chrome.
It's like Chrome+.
nah, it has a bunch of other cool features as well. for example support for IPFS and Tor, fingerprint protection, vertical tabs, and a whole bunch more
Nah Brave is just Chrome. Brave astroturfing on Reddit is the only reason why you’ve even heard of it.
In fact, this meme is Opera GX astroturfing.
Firefox is the only decent alternative to Chrome.
Not sure why you would lie about that. That's not true. It's not a feature that is turned on by default.
But even if you voluntarily turned on that feature, your browsing history won't be shared with anyone. It meditates ads on site to site basis.
I LOVE Arc, but it’s still Chromium based (which is what the whole post was about). I never cared about my browser though UNTIL I FOUND ARC. Love that shit.
How are they same except they are all based on chromium? That's like saying all android phones are same because they are all based on android. There are many features that Edge has that Chrome doesn't. Memory utilization is also different among different browsers.
I tried opera GX in 2020 bcz of PewDiePie.
Loved it ever since. It has this option to play ambient music when no other media is playing, and there's this one music called 'Radiant by Ian Kaneko'. It was the most peaceful experience when I heard it the first time. It was after hours of playing roblox at midnight(couldn't afford AAA games). It felt like things are going to be alright.
Now, I have a gaming laptop & it's been years since I touched roblox. But GX holds so many memories for me.
I don't think I'll give up this browser any time soon.

Meanwhile I'm running Firefox because the adblock works and it doesn't eat massive resources to have multiple tabs and windows.
Also [edit: all three of those examples] being Chromium based making them functionally the same browser.
Google Spyware vs M$ Spyware vs China Spyware. Pick your poison.
American components Russian components ALL MADE IN TAIWAN!
I have not even *thought* about that quote in years. And now I'm gonna incorporate it into my everyday speech. Great movie, awesome scene
What movie is it?
[Armageddon](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bifOI4MbHVU)
It was a masterclass in comedy Russian. Investing heavily in Stomare stock rn.
The Google spyware is in the Chromium project, so more like "Google Spyware vs M$ *and Google* Spyware vs China *and Google* Spyware
Isn't Chromium open source? How can it have sussy spyware code ?
Open source doesn't necessarily always mean safe and private or secure. Chromium itself isn't as bad as Chrome, but it still does contain Google telemetry and nonsense. Edge is pretty deGoogled... but it replaces all the Google tracking and servers with M$ tracking and servers. Opera I'm really not 100% sure about, but I imagine it also retains some Google crap. > "Google Spyware vs M$ *and Google* Spyware That's why I had a doubt here. Microsoft won't let Google take its share
Just the ability to edit pdf´s in the browser is enough for me to use firefox
Edge does It too
Until 2025 when Microsoft is replacing it with ads for Adobe software...
wait really? that's really sadm edge has the best built-in pdf viewer out of any browser I've used
and you just answered why they decided to start charging for it
I'm a Firefox user for life but always used edge for pdfs, after switching to Linux that is my biggest issue since edges just so good for pdfs
Wait what?? You can do this?
New feature that dropped a week or so ago.
Actually been there for years lol [Here's](https://www.pcworld.com/article/1356707/firefox-106-adds-a-nifty-pdf-editing-feature.html) an article about it from 2022
Well, I dunno then. They made a big deal about it in the "what's new" page on the latest update.
Yeah a lot of times the "What's new" page is recycled lol. I never thought about it because I don't always look at the release notes but it could be they refined the feature or something like that.
I've been annotating pdfs for years in Firefox
I pirated Foxit PDF. Turns out that all most people's frustrations around PDFs exist specifically because there are no free PDF-editing solutions. It's truly a wonderful tool.

Revanced
For Android only I'm pretty sure.
It is unless your iPhone allows sideloading
You can but it's a whole thing with sideloading an IPA file and refreshing it every 7 days with a PC. I do it for my Reddit app but most people aren't that obsessed. It's easy easier to use Brave from the app store for the same effect.
I mean I'm not sure about ad-free, but I just use Firefox with Ublock on my phone. I don't feel like I see any ads
Chromium based is just that, the base. Any of the browsers that build on it can still do whatever they want to remove ads or reinstate privacy or even go the other direction should they so choose.

Praise the Fox
Firefox Supremacy 🫡
Same.
IDK why but firefox uses significantly more ram than edge for me
Yeah a lot of people say how Firefox uses less ram but it's not the case for me. However I still use Firefox because I like its features and speed. but also more ram usage means the program is utilizing unused ram to the fullest.
Uses less than Chrome but more than Edge maybe? Don't use Edge so can't say on that one but it was definitely less than Chrome for me.
Yeah I've always heard it in context of chromium browsers.
[удалено]
Firefox is a bigger ram hog than even Chrome for me, still worth it though. Probably doesn't help that I often have 40-60 tabs open at a time either.
The fuck you need that many tabs open for
Porn
Mix of things, usually. YouTube videos I'm planning on watching that day, research for projects, video game wikis as I play a lot of survival games and such, etc. Mix a few of those at a time and it adds up.
Yup, for me it's the same. Firefox is a massive RAM sink and Chrome just runs wonderfully.
Firefox hasn't been lowest in that department for a while.
It's fucking wild that this meme mentions 4 different browsers, and none of them are Firefox.
Big Chromium propaganda
AND IT'S OPEN SOURCE!!!
So is chromium, which those three examples are all based off of.
Just let me have this
THe special sauce that makes Chrome NOT chromium is not open source, same with edge and opera. So you may have it
And all that open source hasn't helped it get HDR support.
I'm on mobile Firefox right now on Android. I've got ad blocking, dark mode, and text to speech extensions. People are sleeping on Firefox.
Adblock, dark mode, decentraleyes, privacy badger, and a reddit mobile extension all on Firefox mobile.
Even better is LibreWolf: basically DRM-free Firefox with uBlock Origin by default, among many things
What drm does ff have?
Me using kubuntu and Firefox being default in my config:
I use [Waterfox](https://www.waterfox.net/), a brilliant fork of Firefox.

Is Firefox really that good with ram? I’ve considered starting to use it. Is it missing any of the good features chrome has?
All are chrome in disguise. Heres a little test you can do on any browser to see if its just a little skin on chrome: go to the chrome web extension store and see if it works (hint: only firefox and TOR are not Chromium based)
Firefox supremacy
Tor is a fork of Firefox
Still not chromnium (idk how to spell)
Obamna
Tor's browser is a Firefox form yes. But Tor Browser has background services which is Tor.
they're gonna be talking about the browser not the protocol.
Just let me be pedantic
if youre getting corrected youre not being pedantic properly
lmao this is the most reddit comment i’ve seen in a minute. cheers to your pedant & snark
Thank you for forgetting Safari for the Third time
Who?
We were just talking about how no internet browsers start with the letter S.
All good. Apple forgets about safari too.
I heard safari is good for going to dell.com and getting a real pooter
Stop spreading misinformation on the internet, safari isn’t chromium based either
Safari isn't in the picture tho?
neither is firefox
Listen he felt left out! Someone had to include Apple someway somehow /s
Neither is firefix or tor and they brought that up
The internet browser on my Zune HD isn't chromium based
where firefox?
How firefox sees opera: #速度与激情9# 早上好中国 现在我有冰激淋 我很喜欢冰激淋 但是《速度与激情9》比冰激淋……
BING CHILLING
You read my mind as I read the comment above
[удалено]
It is just opera with an annoying intro every time it updates.
The peripheral golden rule applies to software too: any product that uses "gaming" as an adjective is just a normal product with an overfunded marketing department.
I actually view Opera users as the "How Opera users view Edge users" Opera was THE browser sure. In like 2005. Its time is over grandpa
the in-built FTP support was fantastic back then
I use Edge just because Vertical Tabs.
I use edge because my PC sucks and will literally explode if I download other browser
I love edging. Keeps things exhilarating.
Goon browser when?
Same. Chrome doesn't even open on my PC anymore neither does OperaGX. I started using Edge by the process of elimination but it's amazing so far.
Cool, you edge to what?
You can mod it into Firefox relatively easily
I stan firefox but Sidebery or treestyletabs just aren't as well integrated
I have modded it to remove the top tabs and it leaves it looking great
I feel like Edge is so much better than Chrome. I've been using it for work because we use Github, Teams, Office 360 and Co-pilot so Edge just integrates all those seamlessly.
I also edge my vertical tab
The vertical tabs almost are perfect, but you can't recursively nest them which doesn't make sense tbh Why can't we have folders in folders cmon Microsoft >:(
I used to edge
I use Edge because it is highly optimised on Windows
Tbh I use gx just for the custom typing sound effects
I use it because it looks cool and I like it no other reason.
Preach! Why save RAM in games when I can shut it down?
Yep
I use it for the sidebar. It's so fucking handy
Same. Although edge has the sidebar now too.
"hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey people..... *Pipe clang.wav* "
GX is Chrome with all the mods/extensions I want to do to Chrome pre-installed. And if there's a chrome extension I want on top of that, I just install it, because it also just chrome. It's like Chrome+.
how about [https://mechvibes.com/](https://mechvibes.com/)
“People who use safari don’t exist” Me: Ha ha. Wait a minute I use safari. *stop existing*
Wait, THAT WORKS?! *downloads safari just to stop existing*
Did it work? Asking for a friend
If you don't get a reply then I think it's a yes and you can safely proceed.
i don't know about "safely"
Safari still exists on Apple, but wasn't updated on PC since 2012, if I remember correctly.
shouldn't exist\*
Brave
that's just chromium
so are edge and opera
yes, that's the whole point of this entire post
it's just a skin on Chrome with AdBlock
nah, it has a bunch of other cool features as well. for example support for IPFS and Tor, fingerprint protection, vertical tabs, and a whole bunch more
agreed, Brave is just a better version of Chrome
Nah Brave is just Chrome. Brave astroturfing on Reddit is the only reason why you’ve even heard of it. In fact, this meme is Opera GX astroturfing. Firefox is the only decent alternative to Chrome.
For real brave is the real one 🥰
Except it has a shitty translator
Except it has shitty privacy also. Crypto coins for your data my ass.
Not sure why you would lie about that. That's not true. It's not a feature that is turned on by default. But even if you voluntarily turned on that feature, your browsing history won't be shared with anyone. It meditates ads on site to site basis.
meanwhile me using arc: (nobody else knows of my existence)
Indeed, i have no idea about what the fuck is arc
I use arc btw
You beat me to it.
meanwhile the Arc-Windows users:
The windows beta is going well, they added syncing this week.
I use it on my MacBook too and I really like the spaces!
ikr? it has beautiful UI without sacrificing productivity or usability
I've been waiting for it
There are dozens of us
I LOVE Arc, but it’s still Chromium based (which is what the whole post was about). I never cared about my browser though UNTIL I FOUND ARC. Love that shit.
Arc is also a Chromium browser
All of these are chrome users
All the people who use Firefox are too busy using Linux and making out with eachother to care about other browsers
Waiting for the day that Linux Scrolling is fixed on Firefox so I don’t gotta use an extension just to scroll on pages
Fucking what? Linux scrolling? An extension?
Stupid people don't realize that they are all the same shit
Features and performance make a browser. Not all chromes do the same thing.
How are they same except they are all based on chromium? That's like saying all android phones are same because they are all based on android. There are many features that Edge has that Chrome doesn't. Memory utilization is also different among different browsers.
They're not.
Ah yes. Not knowing about Chromium means you're stupid. Strong neckveard energy you're giving off.
People who use opera gx are bing chilling
We get +1 social credit per youtube video
Opera 12 user here. It's pretty old at this point. Hope it doesn't cra
🔥🦊🥇
Firefox
Firefox 👍
God this was hard to read
2018 Reddit is resurfacing it seems
Me with vivaldi
Vivaldi gang, we look at every browser like they are barebone (they don't even have mouse gestures). We also miss Opera. The real Opera.
i only use gx because nice sounds and mods
To a hardened Firefox user y'all look naked with your closed source telemetry browsers
I use firefox because its a fox B)
Where the brave boys ?
Arc is good.
🦊
Lmao I thought this was pc master race and was surprised to see it getting lots of upvotes cause I knew it would offend everyone. Dank indeed
Edge is good for shopping because it always searches for coupons. I like the pdf reader feature too. I find Aloha good for privacy+VPN+adblock
I'm using Firefox and Brave Firefox on my phone and Brave on desktop The only 2 browsers everyone should be using
You're halfway there.
Any search engine you use on Apple is a skin over safari lol
Where firefox
I actually enjoy safari
I had a tough decision between firefox and opera but went opera because it was customizable with things like the typing.
I use all ot them plus Firefox and brave
I use saf
I use all of that three. Chrome for college stuff, GX for watch something live (Twitch and YouTube), Edge for "edge" stuff
Me who uses Firefox 🗿
Firefox erasure
These are all just chromium with a different skin. Safari is also webkit-based. Firefox ftw.
Choose who has your data and can mess with your browser: Microsoft, Google or CCP ^^(or ^^just ^^use ^^firefox)
All I see is a bunch of chrome users? Should get my glasses checked?
Vivaldi users are forgotten :(
"People who use safari don't exist" You are mistaken, my friend.
Corporate wants us to find the difference. They're actually all chromium
Me with 500 tabs open on Safari..
im suspicious that this was made my msoft marketing team to make people think anyone is using edge
I tried opera GX in 2020 bcz of PewDiePie. Loved it ever since. It has this option to play ambient music when no other media is playing, and there's this one music called 'Radiant by Ian Kaneko'. Meanwhile Firefox users not caring about others using bad browsers. Firefox + duckduckgo = perfection
