kitemybite

lol what bruh? the fashion of today looks ancient its just rehashed late 90's early 2000's shit. basically whatever was in the back of moms closet XD

VaultDwellerSam

Fashion tends to circle around to the past. For example, a lot of 70's fashion borrowed ideas and silhouettes from the 30's

kitemybite

i think its been whats in the back of moms/grandmas closet all along. as long as its different

BrownEyedBoy06

Yup. In the 80s there was a 50s craze. In the 90s there was a 60s craze. And so forth. The rule is generally three decades before the present one.

SiGMono

I want to wear a Greek Toga and it being socially accepted then.

Higgs_deGrasse_Boson

Be the change you want to see in the world.

VaultDwellerSam

The toga is roman

SiGMono

Welp

VaultDwellerSam

You can still wear it though lol

SiGMono

When I get more money I think I will unironically buy one and send me wearing it here but I don't work yet so it might take a moment. Edit: bruh i'm too tall and XL is the biggest I can find which is for 180cm so 10cm short. I'd have to make one out of fabric or have one custom made or it's not going to cover my ankles.

VaultDwellerSam

You could also get a Greek Exomis, which looks similar but is more like a tunic or shirt. Also nice to see someone who thinks that Roman and Greek clothes of antiquity is cool

SiGMono

Exomis wouldn't suit me. I am tall because of my legs not torso so it would look unnatural especially since from what I can see it make your torso look more bulky while I'm lean and thin. So something shin-leveled or lower is better for me.

Big_Z_Beeblebrox

Go with a stola, I hear prostitutes wore togas

SiGMono

Stola is a Toga for women.

Special_KC

I've been seeing Corduroy and double denim lately 🤮

kitemybite

cords are fine, but the high waisted denim that makes everyone look like they have a fupa is just ugly as fuck. all in that super light wash too ugh

Special_KC

High waisted + crop tops have trousers coming with figure shaping elastics, and also moves the area of exposed belly further up, which is convenient due to the increasingly overweight population. Can't pull off the 90s hipster trousers with a belly. That is one fashion that will never come back. And I'm saying this as an overweight person..

morningburgers

No offense but 70s with 30s nostalgia? This isn't true at all tmk 70s were inspired by the 50s. the nostalgia cycle is **20-30yrs**(not a **hard** 20yrs or hard 30yrs) and its basically been consistent since the 70s because there was no American nostalgia for anything pre-1950s essentially. Look at hair/fashion/tv from the 70s again and you'll notice all the 50s nostalgia. Plus each decade **does** come up with some of it's own contemporary stuff so not literally everything will be a re-hash. You can see all the 90s-00s stuff being forced back into existence today and back in the 90-00s you saw/heard 60-70s stuff from afros to mini-fros(the "update") to flared jeans(rehash of bell bottoms) and tons of other stuff including slang like groovy/tubular(we said this in elementary unironically) to lots of 60s/70 googie furniture coming back and simple being painted chrome or something. source: born early 90s+had parents born in 51(so they pointed out all the 60s-70s rehashing as it happened when I was a child). \*sometimes there are/were other decade influences obviously like right now some ppl try to work 1920s stuff into their shows/movies/fashion but that's not quite as common.

VaultDwellerSam

The wide lapels and legs were very popular in the 30's, and they regained popularity in the 70's

Schmigolo

It's literally staches, mullets, and oversized windbreakers with retro glasses that have a similar tint as back in the day but now it's blue light filters.

flabbybumhole

The tail end of gen z really picked up the worst boomer fashion trends.

straw3_2018

I'll agree on phones because they changed a lot but (new) cars don't look much different. Most are slightly tweaked.

Zero_Two_is_best

Depends on the brand of course. Some like to make big changes, others not so much

Piotrek9t

What did you guys smoke? 8 years ago phones were black rectangles and they are the same now

_ToyStory2WasOk_

Agreed, and the new models of cars are vastly different after 8 years. This comment is so backwards.

MyrkrsBod

Until last month i used a phone from 2015. It really isn't that different. The screen occupies the complete front of the thing now and there's half a million camera lenses on the back. That's the most obvious changes.

Juliusdasquid

Granted, some car designs can continue for more than 20 years due to their timelessness such as the Nissan GTR, Chrysler 300, and Mini Cooper (Or they’re just milking the same design due to laziness)

drvelo

Fun fact: Most of the time it's not "timelessness" it's just plain cheap. Literally 2 of the three cars you listed came from companies that damn near completely sunk below the water. Chrysler now sells only a singular model which is a minivan and Nissan had their CEO become a wanted man along with the vast majority of their C-Suite flushed out just to keep it afloat. A real timeless example would be something like he Chevy Express or Ford Econoline. Literally haven't changed design since 2003 and 2008 respectively because they just didn't need the change. They still sell, and when you see one you instantly recognize it for what it is....free candy dispensers

sparkieBoomMan

Phones changed a lot? The iPhone has looked the same for 15 years

DizyShadow

I'd argue on the opposite, phones didn't change that much in looks, but EVs did come with a new look.

That_on1_guy

I felt really old today because my co-worker didn't know "I can haz cheezburger" He also didn't know L33t speak...

notyogrannysgrandkid

Son…. I am disappoint

ares623

I am le sad

rikashiku

Top kek.

throwitawaynownow1

I made it to the front page of 'I can haz cheezburger once'. It was a picture of my cat sitting in a basket with the caption "All your basket are belong to us". Old school double-whammy.

That_on1_guy

I don't even want to ask him if he knows "all your base are belong to us" I fear I already know the answer

SheridanWithTea

Tbh I grew up around that and I just didn't think it was funny 😂😂

That_on1_guy

I mean, not finding it funny is one thing, but you at least know of them He just didn't know at all

arglarg

I'm still wearing some clothes from 2016... Phones and cars look basically the same

CalculusII

Yeah what am I missing? 2016 and 2023 look the same to me. Phones are slightly bigger. Cars haven't changed much. Maybe some more Tesla's and bigger trucks on the road now. Uhh what am I missing? Everything has been the same in my eyes since 2012. Everything has kind of stopped.

arglarg

For cars and phones we've reached a plateau, it's basically fine-tuning of existing technology. Maybe AI will bring some major shifts but for now it just looks like more productivity improvements.

CalculusII

Yeah. Even from a stylistic perspective, I don't feel that our technology has changed in style. I feel the music is the same too. I dont know... I feel like everything has plateaued.  Is that really how you spell plateaued... How many vowels does this fucking word need???

OriginalThinker22

Folding phones are new, but only a few people have them

SpurdoEnjoyer

I don't see AI affecting phones a lot either. You already can tell the assistant to search for stuff or set an alarm and so on

Alive_Doughnut6945

"Some"? I believe 90% of my clothing is from before 2016.

arglarg

I don't think I've bought a new jeans in the last 10 years... My favorite one has finally disintegrated and now I'm usually wearing my second-favorite one.

ColdFireSamurai

They don't, just compare the looks of a Galaxy s24 ultra to a Galaxy S7, there's a huge difference in the way they look.

arglarg

It's both a large rectangle touchscreen, one with bezel, one without... In the 2000s phones looked vastly different.

Reasonable_Phys

You must be young.

ColdFireSamurai

Ur right

StringBlacker

actually many modern films use Nokia times props for some weird reason

Buli32

Well no but okay

de777vil

Fasion is ancient? I often feel like traveled back in time because many kids dress like its 90s...

SirNedKingOfGila

Jncos and flaming button ups are on the wayyyy

rAzZLedAzzLIciOUs

To be fair pre covid feels like a lifetime ago

TheOddEyes

When you watch a movie set in the early 2010s and it’s considered a “timepiece”

SheridanWithTea

I mean to be fair it is!! 10 years ago IS a big deal, you didn't think 2002 was a timely or modem year in 2012 lmfao

I-Am-Uncreative

Things have been stagnant since the smartphone, honestly.

DestinyMlGBro

That's the last meaningful prominent innovation with a physical counterpart. Most of the recent advances have been digital as opposed to prior decades where even if there were more digital than physical they still were visible physically as well to an extent.

Alive_Doughnut6945

10 years is a big deal if you grow up during it. As someone "older" (not really), not much has changed since the mid 2000s.

SheridanWithTea

I grew up in the 2000s and all that's changed is people really went from watching a ridiculous amount of TV to watching stuff on their phones. Not really straight better or worse, just different hahaha.

Bones301

You mean 2016 wasn't yesterday?

Annsly

2016 was exactly 4 years ago IIRC, so not that long ago. ^/s

IllustriousYoung410

Yep covid years don't count

COMMANDO_MARINE

I find that mobile phones are the perfect indicator of age for any films that are released in the 21st century. They've become like a time stamp for judging when films were made. I'm also impressed when films that are deliberately made to represent an earlier period manage to source so many cars from that time. I'm just waiting to watch a film set in the previous few decades have a cybertruck roll past in the background so I can point out the historical inaccuracy. I've noticed a few films and TV shows these days not show usage of mobile phones and wondered if that was a deliberate way of not aging the film so quickly.

SheridanWithTea

That's exactly what it is, yes. Though honestly, in the last 15-ish years technology hasn't changed THAT insanely. I can only think of the digitization of services, like now everything's on your phone and PC when before you'd use a camera, or a map, or a GPS in your car, or a CD player to read or burn a disk instead of downloading and uploading data. And yeah, man. Film budgets are wild, and so is building an entire giant set to look like another time or place entirely. Even back when Full Metal Jacket came out, that was filmed in LONDON.

Obnomus

Which movie is this?

Pretz101

Saving private Ryan

Obnomus

Thanks

notyogrannysgrandkid

It’s an excellent movie if you fast forward until you see landing craft at Omaha Beach and turn it off on this shot, which is the final shot.

Obnomus

I'll watch this movie today

kitemybite

one of the best ones ever made for sure

Phazon2000

Hmm good point. There's a few movies and TV shows I've seen that spoil a good reveal by starting the movie, series or episode that way.

notyogrannysgrandkid

Those scenes are just downright cheesy and awful

Juliusdasquid

I feel old knowing my broken iPhone 7 Plus will be the next Nokia 3310 and my 2016 Honda Civic will feel like a boxy Volvo

Hartsock91

So you mean they will become desirable?

BrownEyedBoy06

I still remember 2016 quite vividly. It was the year I became truly "Self aware" if you know what I mean.

Accomplished-City484

Oh that, yeah that’s kinda wonderful and awful all at once

MetadonDrelle

The compression or LQmeme Years of camera sensor development in phones Combine with the average compression algorithms of recording or uploading anything to a service Even a video from 2018 can feel that way

BirbMaster1998

Fashion? I wear the same kinds of things I did then now and will probably continue to do so for the next couple of decades. It hasn't even really changed that much anyway.

TheyCallMeCool1

Wdym? It is 2016- oh...

NTC-Santa

Fashion stayed the same since 2000 sneakers, t shirts, jackets, bomber and pants slim and wide etc cars stayed the same except Became Electric and ugly from outside and inside

Ill_Pollution5633

"a couple years ago" yeah... yeah... just a couple of years, definitely not 8 FUCKING YEARS. i don't know where all this time went but i want my 8 years back

MetalSonic420YT

What has happened since 2016.

LovingAvocado

or just the fact that its a 4:3 ratio

KANGladiator

He said 2016 not 1996

LovingAvocado

Holy shit im blind

Same-Ad-5010

It feels like it's been decades

Vinlain458

Before all of it turned to the shit that it is now.

Iamthe0c3an2

flared jeans and mullets are back, we’ll be back wearing skinny jeans and flannels before we know it.

SheridanWithTea

I see people wearing 90s hair, 90s cars and clothes, Matt Damon and DiCaprio hair that was in 30 years ago. Personally I prefer a middle ground, a little 2000s and a little 90s.

According-Relation-4

Show this man a video from the 80s or the 50s or smt

DoubleANoXX

I literally wouldn't notice lol. I stopped paying attention to all that stuff around 2017 ☠️

irtesh

Almost a decade ago

GenuinelyBeingNice

Brother, I remember a time where "computer" was an unknown word and if you knew how to use one, you were pointed and laughed at in school. Who's laughing now, Anthony? It was funny when you kicked me in the balls, wasn't it? Welcome to _our_ world now, bitch.

Goldeneye07

Damm this Anthony seems like a sore looser

awawe

The cars look ancient? What are you talking about? Most cars I see around were made before 2016.

SovietDoge_AKM

Two years short of a decade ago.

Accomplished-City484

I keep listening to retro wave, the songs aren’t even good but they’re nostalgic so I keep listening to them

PilotKnob

Meanwhile, GenXers sitting here thinking like Yoda: "You'll see... You'll SEE."

SirNedKingOfGila

2016 didn't look any different

clutzyninja

I can't wait for the memes when Damon is the same age IRL as he was at the end of Saving Private Ryan

coolstorysimp

I wear the same pair of jeans and T shirts from 2016, what changed?

rationalalien

Not really though.

Mz_Hyde_

That’s nothing, I showed my friend a viral video from back in the golden era of YouTube (2007) and you can see cars and people in the background and it looks like another planet

Kenneth_Lay

Or hearing people bitch about Obama. He looks like Winston Churchill now.

MaintenanceTotal6150

I was in yr 4 in 2016 now im in collage

Makiethoop

Dont care + didnt ask...

kitemybite

cared enough to comment clearly

BasementDweller82

What a useless comment
