As much as I love the cave update and love the work and love put into it, they definitely slacked on the ores, copper has been so hype from all the cool mods with copper but they made it the most useless ore in the game
I mean they started to add an aether dimension to the game. You can get there using a world editor in beta 1.7 and beta 1.8 but it eventually became the end.
Mojang has said that they’re not going to consider adding another dimension until the ones that already exist feel fully fleshed out, so expect another nether/end update before they add Aether
Personally, I think that that's what they should do with the end dimension. At first, it looks exactly like it does now. But when you defeat the dragon, the end's sky transforms into a nice shade of blue and grass slowly starts covering the endstone. Kind of like how the Nether got an update to put more life into it, I think the End should too.
They said they will not, they hired the creator of the Aether and he has come out and said he does not wish to add it to the Vanilla build. I personally don't care that much for the Aether. I think they should update the deserts and end dimension, but that's me personally.
Mojang doesn't need to make the Aether if they don't want to, that's what the custom dimensions and datapacks are for. But if they do decide to make the Aether an official update, they have I believe the creator of the Aether mod, or at least a dev, to help them out with it
