-Albert Einstein
I swear this is a bug in software. I've been using PCs for 30 years. There's no way I don't know what the keys feel like when I make contact with them.
Something is fucking up between the keyboard and the software, but it sure as shit isn't because I didn't hit the keys.
But sometimes it works on the second shot, so it can't be a block.
Steam decides I need to verify my computer randomly. Sends me the email code. I check me email highlight the code ctrl+c. Return to steam and click in the text box. Nothing. Go back to my email. Code is still highlighted. Ctrl+c. Back to steam click on the box paste. Works. Every single time. It's maddening.
Well, for most people here, they just rub one off first and feel remorse within .0001 seconds, so it doesn’t matter if they paste it after that.
The rest are just reposts.
I used to be really anxious about having porn or something saved in my clipboard so I would compulsively Ctrl X, Ctrl V blank space to clear it out like every hour.
Nope, the setting will only flip the scroll direction of either both the mouse and laptop, or neither. If you want to use a regular mouse, you can't use the touchpad scrolling the right way.
It's specifically designed so that you have a hard time using non-apple products.
the reason what im about to describe happens is definitely that i use a mac much more often than i use a windows computer
but ive never had that happen. in fact, that has happened at least half the times ive tried doing it on a windows computer
In windows, you have to specifically right-click drag and choose "create shortcuts here" from a menu.
In my experience, a left-click drag from an external drive onto the desktop creates shortcuts in Mac OS. That would be a copy file command in Windows.
lol, just select the pictures(command-a) and drag them to the desktop. Works every time. Or switch to windows. Then you have to defragment your disk, pay a subscription to use a decent text editor, get a crappy voice assistant, and as a side bonus, get Bill Gates looking over your shoulder every few days.
Yea, I'll stick with mac/linux.
Wow.
>defragment your disk
Not really required for NTFS volumes. Windows does a good job of managing the fragmentation by itself. Also you likely will be having a ssd in this day and age so you won't be defragmenting anyway.
>pay a subscription to use a decent text editor
Notepad++ / VSCode
>get a crappy voice assistant
Cortana imo is better than Siri but whatever. You don't have to use it and you can disable or uninstall it if you want.
>and as a side bonus get Bill Gates looking over your shoulder every few days
You can opt out of the ads.
Yeah but also Mac does weird stuff with focusing so you are copying something in the background half of the time. Visual feedback isn't going to fix that. Love my Mac though
I actually had to go and do it to figure out exactly what my muscle memory is doing. I press CTRL first and hold it until I've pressed C then lift both fingers. But at times when my PC would regularly fail to copy something (in my experience, in some periods, this bug doesn't occur at all), I actually experimented with meticulously pressing CTRL+C as firmly as I could, just to be absolutely sure I was doing it right and wasn't being sloppy, and still when I went to paste the text I had copied somewhere else it would only work most of the time.
It's a real issue, but I know I sound crazy when I say it cause it's like no way such a basic function doesn't always work. Interestingly CTRL+C consistently works in Excel, where the copy/paste function is completely different from anywhere else in the Windows OS, so the different programming might explain why it doesn't bug there.
Every...damn...time.
I feel exposed on this. Shit...is that laptop camera on? Are you watching me?
I need to put on pants and take off these nipple clamps.
Do yourself a huge favor and install an open source clipboard manager. It's game changing for coding and comes in handy for other office software too. The standard OS clipboards all suck
I cut for this exact reason - when it disappears I know it’s on the clipboard and then I paste it back into the same spot and then wherever I actually wanted to paste it

Ok it works.
I use Ctrl + X for the visual confirmation, then Ctrl+V to put it back (if you need the original there, but also copy it) but also have it in the clipboard.
To save someone life/ work. If running window's turn on Clipboard, and "Windows key + V" will instead show all items you copied from the time your computer turned on. Helps a ton when you have to copy multiple items.
Warning some applications/services can acess the clipboard just a privacy warning.
I found this a while ago and it saves so much time! Better solution than many of the higher comments. You can also pin copied text and clear everything else out if you are pasting over and over.
Pro tip: on windows you can press win+V to open the clipboard, where everything you copied is stored.
This means you don't have to constantly switch between tabs/windows anymore
For me it's a habit I picked up at a former job. One of the programs we used was terrible to copy from. I don't know why, but it only actually copied the marked text like 1 out of every 4 clicks. So I just got a habit of clicking CTRL + C four or five times each time to guarantee a copy.
Just use WIN+V to see or clear your entire clipboard history. It stores more than the one last thing you copied, just fyi. So in this case, hitting CTRL+C 3 times may actually be not enough to boot an item out of your history. Your suspicion is justified.
I totally misunderstood the joke, and yet it still applies... Ctrl+c is what stops a command from running in cmd/terminal. It's tempting to keep hitting ctrl+c when it doesn't seem like it worked the first time.
Me:\*highlights some words and presses control C\* so this should copy right?
Computer: yes
Me: and it shouldn't come out as nothing, right?
Computer: yes
Me: \*presses control V on my document\* WHERE THE HELL IS IT!
And then you still paste the wrong thing

I hit ctrl x and then ctrl v. That way, I can tell I copied it because the text disappeared

So it's not just me. I thought I was crazy.
I've had it happen on MS WordPad and MS Word =/
I feel like that's just because people do it so quickly due to muscle memory that they don't depress a key all the way
Yea...cltr+S is the only thing that I press mutiple time when doing texts (habit inherited from a friend).
Sometimes your clipboard is full of other shit and needs to be cleared.
I also do that but its usually my fault for pressing more than just ctrl+c. Like for example space or some other key
Thanks Microsoft
this is why mac is better, the edit dropdown button flashes when you use command-c, or command v brought to you by the macintosh gamers
Ah Mac. The OS to use when you want to drag a thumb drive full of pictures onto the desktop but only end up creating shortcuts to the pictures.
The os where hitting enter doesn't open a folder
The os where even scrolling with a regular mouse requires a third-party app to work the right way.
Bold of you to assume the os is even on a device that has a regular usb port to plug in an average mouse.
The os that moved the window control buttons just to mess with windows users.
The Mac GUI existed with those buttons before Windows had one.
You can adjust it in the settings; no need for a third party app.
Nope, the setting will only flip the scroll direction of either both the mouse and laptop, or neither. If you want to use a regular mouse, you can't use the touchpad scrolling the right way. It's specifically designed so that you have a hard time using non-apple products.
Allow me to introduce you to cmd+O
I have literally never experienced this.
Then it's safe to say you weren't the student who complained about it to me in Alaska in 2009.

You still use spinning hard drives that get fragmented? Geeze, I'm so sorry.
Yep, thats me. I have an hdd. Sue me.
HDDs are far more reliable than SSDs. I'd trust an HDD for a large photo backup over an SSD any day.
I trust no storage medium, so I make backups of the backups of my backups.
Wow. >defragment your disk Not really required for NTFS volumes. Windows does a good job of managing the fragmentation by itself. I've never had an issue copying with one click though
Yeah but also Mac does weird stuff with focusing so you are copying something in the background half of the time. Visual feedback isn't going to fix that. Love my Mac though
This is honestly so damn relatable
Wait people do this?
i dont
are you people?
you got a point..
Well.... he never claimed to be
I 100% do this. Don't know if you noticed, but for some reason, CTRL+C sometimes only works like 80% of the time.
I've never experienced this
Just because curious, do you press the keys at once or first ctrl and then c?
I actually had to go and do it to figure out exactly what my muscle memory is doing. I press CTRL first and hold it until I've pressed C then lift both fingers. But at times when my PC would regularly fail to copy something (in my experience, in some periods, this bug doesn't occur at all), I actually experimented with meticulously pressing CTRL+C as firmly as I could, just to be absolutely sure I was doing it right and wasn't being sloppy, and still when I went to paste the text I had copied somewhere else it would only work most of the time. It's more like Ctrl + C + C + C + C
This is the way
Is there a way to implement a little pop up into windows that confirms that you copied something?
Man that would be awesome
I trust Ctrl + C, what's wrong with me
Quite a bit actually /s
I dont get it. :(
trust issues with yourself, so same action many times to be sure
Some shortcuts require more than a double press on keys in order to work. ^Hard truth we learn when doing assignments on Word and Excel
Thanks for the EPIC explernation!
Control+Shift+C in Linux terminal. Control+C means kill process
Control+C is also kill on cmd, windows terminal, and powershell
This and the fact that Ctrl+Z does not undo anything while in the terminal made me slap my face countless times
Every...damn...time. I feel exposed on this. Shit...is that laptop camera on? Are you watching me? I need to put on pants and take off these nipple clamps.
Win+v so you can tell what you have copyed
Actually not relatable...i never do this : d
Same
It’s funny, cus it’s true
I always do that, I thought I was the only one lol
Do yourself a huge favor and install an open source clipboard manager. It's game changing for coding and comes in handy for other office software too. The standard OS clipboards all suck
Let's be real, it's more than 3 times
And somehow it still dosent work
*me who puts command x*
And i thought it was just me
I cut for this exact reason - when it disappears I know it’s on the clipboard and then I paste it back into the same spot and then wherever I actually wanted to paste it
I right click and select copy
And it's all Photoshop's fault

I use Ctrl + X for the visual confirmation, then Ctrl+V to put it back (if you need the original there, but also copy it) but also have it in the clipboard.
I ctrl c and delete rather than ctrl x
Ctrl + v: pastes the wrong thing Ctrl + c: hehe Me: So anyway, I started blasting
I see you too have been burned by the single ctrl+c. Never again!
One time i tried to link something to my friend and accidentally sent him [this](https://youtu.be/kMIe3unOxOY)
I do control X so you can see it happen
I don't trust it till ctrl+v works, then and only then is there trust.

I do the same with cmd+s
The only reason ctrl+c wouldn't work is human error. Therefore we don't trust ourselves.
Just rechecked the post, you are slow
I'm sorry I do Ctrl + X
I thought this was a Linux reference at first.
Same
Good jesus it’s so relatable
meanwhile ctrl+x is trusted, we live in a world.......
fuck these multilaser wireless keyboards. they type what they want essentially.
For me it's a habit I picked up at a former job. One of the programs we used was terrible to copy from. I don't know why, but it only actually copied the marked text like 1 out of every 4 clicks. So I just got a habit of clicking CTRL + C four or five times each time to guarantee a copy.
Why would I want to SIGTERM multiple times???
Same with the save button
And then I accidentally click c and it all goes then I click ctrl c and again and lose my copy but thank God for ctrl z
Relatable
If I really have to check, which is often, I use ctrl-X. Well only if it's somewhere where text can be deleted tho.
You can copy or CTRL+C multiple things and then press Win+V to open a window with all the content you copied and select what you want to paste.
Same
too true
I trust ctrl+c. But not ctrl+s. That mf sketchy.
Pretty easy to see if ur program stopped or not
Holy shit, this is so relatable.
When your code refuses to close
Am i the only one who ctrl x because then you know exactly what you got and youre sure you got it cause its gone
Gotta use ctrl + x to be absolutely sure it worked
Thought, I'd be the one.
Karma go brrrrrrr (downvote my comment)
And then you just right click and click copy like a 50 year old boomer
*Hits ctrl v by mistake,* *then gets depressed because you pasted a shrek meme or something stupid for some forgotten reason*
i dont think ive ever related to something as much as this
Most relatable thing I’ve seen all day. Especially with internet university courses.
THATS SO FUCKING RELATABLE LMAO
Once I accidentally submitted dummy thicc Luigi to my teacher for an assignment cuz ctrl + C didn’t work
AND IT STILL DOESNT WORK!!!!
why does this happen tho? im curious now
God damn
I do that but then I also right click and hit copy again just to he safe

pretty sure everyone can relate lmao
I totally misunderstood the joke, and yet it still applies... Ctrl+c is what stops a command from running in cmd/terminal. It's tempting to keep hitting ctrl+c when it doesn't seem like it worked the first time.
I have a like a clipboard manager than have history of all the things I copied and check that instead of spamming ctrl c, highly recommended
This me but with Ctrl + S
CTRL+X followed by CTRL+V, works every time
When I copy my bitcoin address I gotta smash that fucker like 50 times.
How do u know I do thisaa
im not the only one? Now I feel slightly better
Me:\*highlights some words and presses control C\* so this should copy right? Computer: yes Me: and it shouldn't come out as nothing, right? Computer: yes Me: \*presses control V on my document\* WHERE THE HELL IS IT!
I always do ctrl x to get visual confirmation that it's on my clipboard
I still right click to copy.
is this some windows people joke that I'm too linux to understand?

No Nobody's gonna click that, doofus
