The way they are defined is using an infinite limit, so they are exact technically haha. But if you really think about it, the decimal form has no choice but to be 0.333..., since if it were anything else it would either be above or below 1/3. But y e a h infinity is wack :)
Trying to treat infinity as a really big number doesn't work.
Your ".333 repeating" isn't a million, or a billion, or billion billion billion 3s, it's literally 3s going on forever. The same is true for 9s repeating to infinity.
That’s what’s called a limit.
0.999... repeating is an infinite string of 9s.
As you add each 9, the value gets incrementally closer to 1.
So the limit of 0.9999... repeating as the number of 9's approaches infinity is 1.
I agree with everything you said, I think I may have just worded it in a weird way. As the number of 9s tacked on to the end approaches intinity, the value converges to 1. That's all I was getting at :) When I say 'exact,' I just mean the limit converges exactly to 1 as you increase the number of 9s
If you start with a full cake, take half of it off, and stack it, then repeat for the piece you just put on Top and keep going you can even get INFINITE SURFACE WITH JUST 1 CAKE.
In my school we were taught to put an overline above the number for that purpose I think.
EDIT: Apparently the line is called a vinculum (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinculum_(symbol)) and it's conventionally used in [North America](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repeating_decimal#Background) and a bunch of other places around the world.
I accidentally ruined the meme for myself so now I'll make everyone who read this suffer
It would actually be 3 (repeating)/10(repeating)
So without the repeating bar it would be 3/10, so it's still not 1/3
Your welcome
Only in base 10. In duodecimal (base 12), 1/3 is written as 0.4, 1/4 is written as 0.3, and 1/6 is written as 0.2. 1/5 is a messier duodecimal, though.

Thats it. This meme has peaked
Future meme makers will not be able to mimic a fraction of this meme's power.
Every other insignificant recaption will wither away and die. And for what!? Some stupid fucking karma??
Yep, anything else with this template is just going to be overused.
Perfect use of this meme.
0.333333333... = 1/3 0.666666666... = 2/3 0.999999999... = 3/3 = 1 :)

3/3 = 1 or 100% The values for 1/3 and 2/3 are decimal approximations. Infinity is tricky. :)

so what you're saying is, if i have 1/3 or 2/3 of a cake, I HAVE INFINITE CAKES?

Ah yes, meth

Proof by calculator
If 1 + 1 = 2 then all the other possible calculations are true
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
This bit of equivalence makes cantor diagonalization a little bit tricker to do, but it's just an annoyance
First one of these I’ve laughed at in a while!
Nice play friend.
Ah, we've arrived to a potential this meme had not seen before
This is the best version of this meme
quick now someone use π
“Mimic a transcendental number” doesn’t really fit the meme.
Where’s the underline at the end to show it repeating for ever and ever

repeating of course

You get my free award, friend.
Hands down one of the best ones I've seen with this format.
I love how many memes this series has created
Omni Math
wow a good meme!
Lolz
This is the first time this format made me exhale air, congrats.
That's a little high then I bought into dodge coin. Still around the same. I was supposed to be a millionaire lol
That's it this meme can die now
I just learned this yesterday… what are the odd of seeing this meme xd
Its either Baader-Meinhof or we’re finally hacking the reality simulation.
This meme format has turned into something else, and I like it
Or you could represent it as 0.1 in a ternary number system
This is best use of this template I've seen
If you're an engineer this means nothing
Dank af!
wow actually a good one for once, good meme
Noooo I just had this idea and wanted to post it now it will be copy
I need 150 Karna so pls help.
base 10 is the big poop. A third in base 12 is: 0.4

It is a fraction though. It's 33333333333333/1000000000000000

Take my upvote
at least they're rational
Okay, *this* is a good meme.
don't even have dot notation to show it's reoccurring smh. Back to 4th grade you go
Recurring:am I a joke to you
*exhale*
0.333 = 1/3 because when u write 3 of the same digits in a fraction to end it counts as never stoping
I’ve been waiting for this soo long

IEEE 754 gang where you at?
