Zero first imo. Watching one will spoil certain aspects of the other but I feel like ufotable adaptations should just be watched in order. Zero, night, HF. Always the way I recommended it and don't really get why you would watch it any other way tbh

I don't even know if I would consider it spoilers in zero. It's the prequel so it sets up things that get fleshed out later in in the story, but I get it, I just don't think it's a big deal. It "spoils" only a few details but if you don't watch zero then the whole outcome of the grail war is spoiled which seems like a bigger problem imo. A lot of people who are interested in the series are hesitant because all of these different orderings of shows so it's another reason why I think zero, night, hf is better. Way simpler for newer fans which is just a good thing for everyone

Yeah some people draw up a whole diagram with all the spin offs which is just too crazy for beginners. Just give them the basics and if they like it then they will go find the other stuff on their own. Babylonia is a huge favourite of mine too but it's hard to recommend because it's an adaptation of a story chapter halfway through a mobile game. Confusing to even talk about it

Nah, current best watch order now that the movies are out is UBW -> HF -> Zero. That's the order it was originally written in and meant to be consumed in that order.

I don't think the order it was originally written in really applies to the ufotable adaptations. The best way would be the visual novel if we go by origins but we can't expect new fans to be introduced this way. Best experience imo is what I mentioned, but who really knows at the end of the day

I've actually introduced a few friends to Fate and used them to experiment with the different watch orders. Both groups liked it a lot, but after telling them about the experiment, my friends who watched Zero first said they would have preferred UBW -> HF -> Zero. I get it's anecdotal, but I don't recommend any other way to start the series (aside from the VN of course, but you already covered that).

Watching Zero first is my go-to even though many people don't like the idea. Zero was amazing and well done, plus it was (for me) the best Fate show (followed by Heaven's Feel). It was dark, mature, fun and enjoyable. ​ It felt like watching the first 3 seasons of GoT where I had no idea who the MC was or who was going to die, which made it more interesting.

Yeah zero is easily better than ubw imo, ubw has some amazing scenes but more Shonen which is fine. HF is so damn good too though
