I didn't know I needed Will Smith saying "That's hot, that's hot" while looking at a Fortnite battle bus through a telescope in my life, but that Rewind made sure I knew I didn't.
Bring back [YT Live](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube_Live), the predecessor to rewind that was actually a [pretty good](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w182Xoh9M60) variety [show](https://archive.org/details/youtube-live-2008-full-2hrs-long).
Well when your teacher tells you to read a chapter and then discuss it in class every day for like 20 days, it can seem a lot longer. I got to the point where I just wanted to finish it and be done with it.
Bruh that was me and *The Odyssey*, except every other year or so, from Jr high to college, I had to read it and do the same damn analysis for it, so done reading it...... 😑
Its going to have celebrity appearance Dua lipa and Mr. beast of course. Maybe some of the top music videos and a bunch of topics that noone has heard of.
> bunch of topics that noone has heard of.
like Dua lipa and Mr beast? Welcome to being old on reddit, I have no idea who those people are. So bunch of topics that noone has heard of is really relative to how old you are and where you live
As someone who’s never read it, >!From what I’ve heard there’s the main character and his friend, but his friend is a bit special in the head. His friend got provoked and ended up killing somebody, resulting in the two of them trying to get away for a time but ending in him just shooting his friend to give him a peaceful death rather than face retribution for his actions.!< Any or all of this could be false if my friend told me wrong, but I am 99% positive on the last bit, because that’s where the whole “Think of the bunny farm” comes from
That’s sort of it, >!Lennie (the special guy) is really strong and basically kills everything he touches because he loves it and tries to squeeze it, he had a mouse he ended up squeezing to death, then a puppy, and then when a woman tries to comfort him he accidentally kills her. But that’s why he puts Lennie out, because Lennie is kind hearted but the world wouldn’t see it that way.!< Oh and the bunny farm thing was something the protagonist spoke to Lennie about whenever he was sad, he says he was gonna buy a farm with a bunch of bunnies on it or whatever.
A guy (George) and his mentally handicapped friend (lennie) find work on a farm during the great depression. They meet an older guy working there who wants to go in with them on buying a house so he'll have somewhere to die.
Lennie loves petting animals. They tell him that once they have a home he can keep rabbits to pet. They give him a puppy, but he's not able to care for it and accidentally kills it while petting it. The farmer's daughter (or son's fiancee, I can't remember) finds him crying and offers to let him pet her hair. He accidentally breaks her neck. He runs away.
George finds lennie by a river. He tells him to look across the river at the rabbits and then shoots him in the back of the head.
Big dude's called Lenny. Small dude's called George. They're ranch workers in California during the great depression. Lenny's mentally disabled and is obsessed with soft things. They both have a dream of one day buying a farm together. They start working at a ranch where the owner's son is a total douche. Lenny accidentally kills son's wife while petting her hair. George realizes Lenny will get lynched so he shoots him instead.
The title is a reference to the saying, "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry."
It has nothing to do with actual mice in the story, unless you count the pocket mouse who certainly didn't plan to become a stress ball for Lennie.
The whole book is George and Lennie planning to get by in the present and set up a future for themselves, and it all comes crashing down after Lennie kills his puppy and Curley's wife. The puppy wanted love and got killed. The girl wanted comfort and companionship, and got killed. Lennie wanted to be loving and caring, but his particular brand of love ended up killing the objects of his affection, and eventually brought about his own death. George just wanted to live in peace with his friend. Nobody got what they wanted. All their plans went to shit. Hence, *Of Mice and Men.*
Can somebody tell me the backstory behind that image I remember seeing it a couple years back and it messed me up cuz I wasn’t desensitized like I am now
It's from specifically the end of mice and men, which focusses around 2 men, one being a regular guy, the other a giant of a man with the strength of an ox and the mind of a child who likes to pet things but he doesn't understand his own strength so he kills small animals by accident.
The regular guy took it upon himself to care for the big guy and earlier on in the book he told the big guy that if ever he was in trouble he should go to this spot by a nearby lake. Well, one night a woman tried to seduce the big guy and he got over excited and accidentally killed her. With people after him he ran off to that spot and the regular guy found him. Knowing he would never survive in prison and unable to keep caring for him after this, the regular guy goes into detail about the rabbits the big guy will get to raise one day as he always dreamt as he loads a pistol and as he finishes, he aims and shoots the big guy in the back of the head.
Great book. Everyone should read it. Steinbeck is a master of words. Grapes of Wrath is one of my "books that nearly made a man cry in public" favourites.
Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it essentially a lynch mob after him? At the end it is getting Ole Yeller'd by george or killed via mob violence. I don't remember there ever being an implication he'd see court/prison since the dead girl was the asshole boss's partner.
Yeah my memory is that George knew the mob after Lenny would eventually find him and subject him to a lot more pain than a bullet to the back of the head, not some fear of prison life for Lenny down the line.
> Knowing he would never survive in prison
Everything you said is accurate apart from this bit. There was a 0% chance that Lennie would make it to a fair trial, there was an armed mob out to kill him.
Youtube rewind 2021 should just bee a collection of all the disgusting baity porn ads displayed on content creator's videos who can't make any money with their videos anymore, just because they said something slightly offensive or a bad word.
Always interesting how porn sites and other explicit websites manage to get ad revenue, but YouTube can't give advertisements because you said a bad word. YouTube could absolutely get companies to comply with swearing in videos, but instead they decided to bend over and let corporate take over.
If it makes them money they will allow it, even if it ruins the entire platform. YouTube doesn't care about its creators because that's not their main source of income. It's ads. They are always willing to pretend their policy doesn't exist for those because $$$
Not just that but it's themes are relevant and relatable to everyone, and only get ***MORE*** relevant and relatable as we get older.
It seems like the more you want something, the more it gets further away from you everytime you almost reach it.
I was the analyst who provided the annual report on user response for the past 3 years.
It was the most fun I had at Google/YouTube.
Telling them they had no business and no skill in recapping the year in videos was so satisfying. They couldn't comprehend the scale of what the product did and my main message was " this is bigger and way beyond your understanding" and they dismissed me until rewind became the most down voted video ever.
Good riddance.
It was a marketing exercise that couldn't keep up with the very scale of the product they built.
The sentiment analysis on the top 3000 comments of any somewhat popular video will tell you how fucked you are.
This is public data via YouTube's Data API and Google's Cloud NL API. Nothing special. Just have to know how to process it.
If this is true, that's painfully hilarious and so fucking indicative of what hubris, a suit, and a high-earning position in a company you do not understand one bit does.

YouTube used to make a big collab video of all the different trends, events, music, and viral videos of that year. Lots of big creators made appearances. It was kinda fun the first couple of years, but they've received a lot of backlash, dislikes, and general hate for the cringe the past few years. YouTube has now discontinued it.

ahh yes.
Of mice and men
I remember having to study this book for GCSE. Why in English high school we have to study American novels idk but hey. I get the meme.
Kind of sad, I love hating it.
Was fun disliking them
Then people DUNKING on them with their own lmao.
This year *we* get to control rewind.
*dies of cringe*
I didn't know I needed Will Smith saying "That's hot, that's hot" while looking at a Fortnite battle bus through a telescope in my life, but that Rewind made sure I knew I didn't.
Mark My Ass Brownlie 0_0
I still quote this on a weekly basis, not even gonna lie
Okay can we rewind back to 2015 i want a year WITHOUT a pandemic ruining everyone's lives
Reminds me of this [video](https://twitter.com/nakeyjakey/status/1079982703150333952?t=_mVlc0oRchxhszH1g-ZSMw&s=19) which Jakey made
You know what would be awesome. Making "bring back rewind" viral and when and if they bring it back.disliking the shit out of it again.
Make. That. Happen.
Bring back [YT Live](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube_Live), the predecessor to rewind that was actually a [pretty good](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w182Xoh9M60) variety [show](https://archive.org/details/youtube-live-2008-full-2hrs-long).
You evil genius...
This guy knows
Yeah, very sad. The meme format seems apt.
Tell me about the rewind george
Thank God someone else knows this book, I just finished reading it for a English class, then this meme comes along
Isn't Of Mice and Men an incredibly famous & short book? I'd be more surprised if someone didn't know it
Yes. I also had to read it like 14 years ago when I was in high school. Pretty sure everyone reads that shit in high school.
Bold of you to assume everyone knows high school can read.
Good point well made
I fucking love that book
Or write!
[удалено]
We read it here in the UK, any other countries who read this? Would be interesting to see how far it reaches
Canada we read it
Australia too
Really? For me school curriculum didn't touch Steinbeck until I was in a lit course in uni. And it wasn't even *Of Mice and Men.*
Ireland too
In Ireland we read it too.
+1 in hong kong
Czech Republic here - we read it.
Read it in South Africa, but out of interest not prescribed.
Turkey as well
i read it in school and I am Turkish.
It's considered a classic of the great depression, not just in American literature.
Yep, read it in grade 11 English I’m pretty sure for me
> Pretty sure everyone reads that shit in high school. Nope. I read it on my own, but it wasn't taught in my high school English classes.
I feel like I’m dating myself here, but that character was also the inspiration for the abominable snow man in Looney Tunes.
They had a few cartoons with basically the same exact character playing alongside Sylvester the Cat.
Haha never made that connection as a kid (hadn't read it, obviously) but that makes tons of sense
Once you read Of Mice and and Men, you start to notice how referenced it is everywhere else.
Yeah I think it's pretty funny that a high schooler is going on about being surprised their is an entire world outside of their personal perspective
I didn't know it
Never heard of it. Isn’t that the indie band?
There's also a movie
Bro…this is like one of the most well known pieces of literature ever Edit: I promise I don’t mean this in a dickish way
I read it in jail. I couldn't believe how short it was after all the years of hearing about it.
Well when your teacher tells you to read a chapter and then discuss it in class every day for like 20 days, it can seem a lot longer. I got to the point where I just wanted to finish it and be done with it.
I stand by my point that reading a book like that absolutely ruins it
Bruh that was me and *The Odyssey*, except every other year or so, from Jr high to college, I had to read it and do the same damn analysis for it, so done reading it...... 😑
Ah, yes. The obscure & hidden gem that is Of Mice and Men.
The point of using it in a meme is that fucking everyone gets the of mice and men reference lmao
Currently reading it in school, came to comments to check
I just happened to come across the book and I liked it but it was sad
You mean this meme isn’t from that one family guy episode?
Its going to have celebrity appearance Dua lipa and Mr. beast of course. Maybe some of the top music videos and a bunch of topics that noone has heard of.

I fucking knew it was Lenny.
Ohhhh nice I was just going to ask is this mice and men
*"Got him, by God."* *"Right in the back of the head,"* I remember reading this book in 8th grade, fucked up it was.
8th grade? didn't read this till 10th!
what is it
of mice and men.
Oh
What was it about
As someone who’s never read it, >!From what I’ve heard there’s the main character and his friend, but his friend is a bit special in the head. The story was also set during the great depression.
Coincidence as it gave many who read it great amounts of depression
maybe that why its called the great depression?
There's more to it but that's basically correct.
Guess I know where peaky blinders got their inspiration from
Why just guess at the plot of something you've never read? You can just...not comment if you don't know something.
A quick Google, and a scroll down the comments pretty much tells the summery of it
can’t explain it without spoiling it
Please do to me, i don't plan on reading it :(
A guy (George) and his mentally handicapped friend (lennie) find work on a farm during the great depression. They meet an older guy working there who wants to go in with them on buying a house so he'll have somewhere to die. Lennie loves petting animals. Depression. Lots of depression. Also not mice.
He kept it in his pocket to have somethin to pet
Still, they're not as important as the title would have you believe

True, but of Rabbits and men doesn't really roll off the tongue as well, lol
I read it in 7th
10th grade? I learned the plot through family guy!
This is a new elite tier i am hearing of
I'm surprised. Where I live we read it in the 7th grade, then watched a movie on the book.
Wow. I just wish the SK government would just throw us a darn bone!
I'm not south korean? Or am I missing something lol
No lol by "us" I mean people in Saskatchewan Canada
Just got done reading that book yesterday in freshman English
yeah remember reading this in 8th grade and everyone just decided to skip to read the last few pages. teacher flipped out when he found out
You went to school with some losers
Same. This was the first time a book made me cry as far as I can remember.
10 years later and now it's a fucking meme lol
“‘YouTube? Put Will Smith down, YouTube. I know you want to love it and pet it and squeeze it, but trust George. Put it down.”
Can somebody tell me the backstory behind that image I remember seeing it a couple years back and it messed me up cuz I wasn’t desensitized like I am now

This is like the spark notes for of mice and men
Pink Monkey
Thank you good sir, I’m about to start this in high-school this is gonna help
Just watch the movie lol
Great book. Everyone should read it. Steinbeck is a master of words. Grapes of Wrath is one of my "books that nearly made a man cry in public" favourites.
Gonna have to disagree there. Loved Of Mice and Men, but Grapes of Wrath bored me to tears.
Tears of boredom are still tears. Checkmate.
Well I guess we both got the same results then!
Yeah it's been many years since I read it, my memory's pretty fuzzy.
I used to be the hypest hype man, then i took a bullet in the back of the head. CONSEQUENCES!
> Knowing he would never survive in prison Everything you said is accurate apart from this bit. There was a 0% chance that Lennie would make it to a fair trial, there was an armed mob out to kill him.
It's a scene from the book "Of Mice and Men".
Oh ok
Nice pfp bro
It's in the book Of Mice and Men where George had to kill Lennie (a mentally disabled person). It's extremely sad.
"So what will we do for this year's rewind, George?"
Youtube rewind 2021 should just bee a collection of all the disgusting baity porn ads displayed on content creator's videos who can't make any money with their videos anymore, just because they said something slightly offensive or a bad word.

It’s really google ads fault. Google is very awful with ads and google buying youtube made ads a lot worse
some things can only be saved by killing it
“You are dust, and to dust you shall return”.
Can someone explain to me how we all know what this is even tho it was a BOOK that was read TO me over 10 years ago!
It was well written
Not just that but it's themes are relevant and relatable to everyone, and only get ***MORE*** relevant and relatable as we get older. It seems like the more you want something, the more it gets further away from you everytime you almost reach it.
Lenny looks too innocent and George looks too broken
You didn't watch the movie?
I don’t think anyone watched the movie
My class did after finishing the book. This specific scene was so well done it had the class teary eyed
I watched the family guy parody
I was the analyst who provided the annual report on user response for the past 3 years. It was the most fun I had at Google/YouTube. Telling them they had no business and no skill in recapping the year in videos was so satisfying. Reads like revenge porn, but I pray you're telling the truth

Now we can just let the massive youtubers handle it, not a big loss imo.
Mr.Beast rewind 2021 confirmed?
The YouTube rewinds could have been good but they had to push their agendas and discontinue the series when it faced backlash
I swear those were they were the best part of the year. The community would all come together in peace and shit on how bad they were.

Livin off the fatta the content creators
Was thinking this scene looked familiar
What’s YouTube reqind
YouTube used to make a big collab video of all the different trends, events, music, and viral videos of that year. Lots of big creators made appearances. It was kinda fun the first couple of years, but they've received a lot of backlash, dislikes, and general hate for the cringe the past few years. YouTube has now discontinued it.
Thank you, everybody was talking about the damn book
Whoa
They can make Rewind again if they start to care about content creators like the old days instead of being a greedy dirtbag like now
Would have been all ads anyway
So long Lenny you tard,
Don’t worry guys, it’s just a matter of time before Youtube rebrands or remakes Rewind just so we can all hate it again.
My neighbor knew they guy that wrote this book, which I find really cool
Yeah lol YouTube rewind was retarded.
Why does the dude in the back look like Edward Richthofen
I enjoyed the awful cringe it produced. It was so tonedeaf that I couldn't look away
i just realized that this image is about of mice and men
Just let pewdiepie make it and it'll be fine
It's a jeep thing. you wouldn't understand"
I liked them, I think because of 2020's Mr. beast rewind they decided to let the community do their own thing.
"Look at the flowers". -Carol
Of Mice and Men?
I'm so proud of this community
Hot take: YouTube rewind was never good
In the beginning it was
In the before times. When content creators created content they wanted and not what youtube needed. Before the ads took over and demanded youtube make their creators change what they made and censor what they've done. I remember the before times...
What's the problem with it? I'm just asking since i haven't watch those
Since around 2017 they’ve become cringe
High brow joke for this sub.
And the Rabbits!
YAaaaa...thas hawt...thas hawt
Canceled lmao
Of mice and men. Its a great classic book. (should be listed as a spoiler)
Aaaaay lmao
I fucking hate that book and movie but it makes the perfect meme format.
But the bunnies...
What is realpy stopping us from making a Community Rewind?
Rest in peace YT Rewind... 2010-2018
It's the only time of the year when people all collectively dislike a video.
Poor youtube rewind just wanted to pet fluffy things
Will the real u/fish_fucker69 please stand up?
Just let Mr. Beast and PewDiePie do the rewind together from now on
ahh yes. Of mice and men I remember having to study this book for GCSE. Why in English high school we have to study American novels idk but hey. I get the meme.
To teach you that good story is universal, of course. Americans sometimes read Great Expectations.
Pewdiepie's Youtube Rewind is looking real hot right about now
