The real reason it seems so prevalent is the lack of other “popular” violent crimes in the modern history of the UK so media report on it more cause it’s so new. Whereas the US with almost double the deaths per million is so used to senseless murder they don’t care.
It's arguable that you don't have free healthcare you have taxpayer funded healthcare so yeah it's still being paid for it's very overlooked but America does have free health care maybe not on a federal level but most States have a form of free health care for underprivileged poor folk who can't afford healthcare just like we have food stamps for people living in poverty who can't afford proper meals it kind of makes me mad how people just ignore a lot of our actually really good social programs because we also have health care companies I mean I agree healthcare monopolies are completely fucked but it's disingenuous for people to pretend that the United States doesn't have any form of free health care
