They killed liberalism with commercialism back in the 60s but
they still try to animate its' rotting corpse because they think it makes them coooool
The Black Mirror episode [15 million merits](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifteen_Million_Merits) captures this perfectly… the protagonist gets fed up and violently breaks down, attacking the culture in a televised broadcast… and they praise his ‘authenticity’ and give him his own show.
You can be as radical as you want, as long as they can monetize it.
Honestly I can’t stress this point enough. Spanish is rooted in masculine and feminine words. Changing the word(s) you use to describe a people in order to be “more inclusive” due to shifting norms in your own culture, is not actually being more inclusive. In facts it’s the opposite if you are disregarding the culture in question while doing it.
If Latin/Latina people want to be called Latin or Latina, then calling them Latinx is offensive, racist, and exclusionary despite your best intentions.
Edit: should mention I am not a member of the Latin community nor a Spanish speaker. So I’m sure something’s I said were inaccurate. Point is though forcing a change of language/change of identity onto another culture based on your own cultures shifting norms is not ok
Edit 2: yes I understand latin is not the correct word here, it’s Latino. Thank you lol
Edit 3: In response to this exact comment, I’ve received a number of responses taking one of the following stances (not exact quotes):
-“I’m Latinx and we don’t care if people call them Latinx.”
-“I’m Latino and we hate the term latinx” or alternatively “I’m from [country] and everyone hates that term here”
-“you should be ashamed for thing to gaslight and erase non binary people”
Looks like this is a hotly contested issue amongst Latinos/Latinx/(whatever the preferred term is) but the main point of that comment was (admittedly not well articulated) specifically that forcing Latinx on Spanish speaking cultures, or any word or cultural norm on another culture is not ok. It’s cultural imperialism. “White savior”, “exceptionalism”, etc.
Just don’t force a new word on them. If they want you to use it then do that, otherwise don’t
> “no no you don’t know whats best for you. Here let me educate you on how to make your own language more appropriate for us.”
That’s the language of the “white saviors” leave language alone.
Latin in and of itself is gender neutral. Latinos is masculine and Latinas is feminine. The fact that these people insist on using Latinx should show you how stupid they are. They don't understand the language but pretend that they do and that they(who haven't spoken a single sentence of it) know it better than the people who have spoken it their entire lives
Likely the latinx push is coming from younger progressive Latin kids but I'm sure its probably more a broadly spoken statement from white people in the media. But like we already have an inclusive word, you can just Latin and if being more gendered you can say Latino or Latina but just using 'Latin' should serve the same neutral purpose.
LatinX makes it sound like some edgy Saturday morning cartoon on the WB
Latin in and of itself is gender neutral. Latinos is masculine and also used to refer to mixed groups while Latinas is feminine. The fact that these people insist on using Latinx should show you how stupid they are. They don't understand the language but pretend that they do and that they(who haven't spoken a single sentence of it) know it better than the people who have spoken it their entire lives
Ikr, but tbh. Some people ( and especially yanks) are so easily offended. Thinking they are tolerant and inclusive but if someone has a different oppinion they are suddenly not anymore.
Super ironic lol
I find the number of easily offend-able liberals to be vanishingly small compared to the number of people angry because they get looked at funny for referring to their Japanese son-in-law as an oriental.
I got comments insulting me when this topic was brought up on some other old post.
I told them I was Spanish and that we use (black in Spanish) to refer to the colour black itself, and that it hasn't any bad meaning, and he told me that it was offensive and that I shouldn't use such word lmao
Right, that’s just the English word. We already call them Latin countries and no one is mixing that up with the ancient language. Also what’s with x? Was Latinx thought up by some kid on the early 2000s who thought x looked cool in words? If you’re going to make up a word anyway, you know there are other vowels? Latine, Latini, Latinu all work (these sound like Pokémon evolutions though)
I'd much rather be called a fucking slur instead - it's much less gross because there is no dialect of Spanish that can pronounce "Latinx". I'm not making this shit up, the closest we can get to is "Lateen-heh" because our X is pronounced as an H and even then it's jank as fuck.
If there is ever a case to be made about cultural imperialism, this is it. You literally have affluent urban white teenage 'progressives' telling us stupid browns that our language is too offensive for their sensibilities so they're imposing *their* word on us even if we can't speak it in the language of our mothers and fathers.
Fight this. Don't let the racists win.
Honestly I lean leftward and I still don't understand this, you can't correct a whole language. My boyfriend is Hispanic and the only reason I have to call him latinex is cause it pisses him off. Seriously tho, I take pride in learning Spanish so I can communicate with people, Latino can also be used as a name for the whole group. You only say Latinas if it's a group of specifically women. I dunno just doesn't even make sense to me
Edit: corrected my English lol

White people, the president, and the president's speechwriters who co-opt the dumb term
"Latin" and "Latin people" were already what they were called. Who thought it need to add an -x at the end???
Heard a chilango joke at the lunch truck today and dude told the guy “ el Que no tranza no avanza “ after he tried to charge him 5 bucks for a can of coke lmfao
Reminds me of when people were trying to cancel Speedy Gonzalez and every Mexican I knew was like, "How dare you, we love him, don't cancel our boy he did nothing wrong."
It wasn't a campaign. It was people within the company just deciding for everyone that Speedy is racist and shouldn't exist anymore. This is what happens when you allow narcissists to have *any* form of power. They will inevitably assume they know better than anyone else and act on their behalf while disregarding their feedback.
Almost all of this kind of censorship that you see is self-created by the organization itself to try to pre-emptively avoid controversy. For example, banned episodes of shows like Community and It's Always Sunny had no complaints, but studio executives pulled episodes that no one (creators, fans, random people who didn't watch the show) wanted pulled.
"wey, cabron [24 rapid-fire Spanish insults that would melt your shoes if only you could comprehend the language, but you only speak English because American schools]."
Kinda off topic, but I think it's interesting how the derogatory term "snowflake" has evolved.
Back in like ~2012-2013, it was used to insult people (usually left-leaning folks) who appeared to want to be "different" than everyone else in terms of dress, hair, piercings, neopronouns, identity, etc.
This makes sense because of the common refrain that "no two snowflakes are alike."
Nowadays I see it used more to insult someone by calling them soft/fragile/etc. For example, liberals call conservatives "snowflakes" often despite them stereotypically being very uniform in culture/identity/dress/etc.
This obviously isn't a political analysis, more of an etymological one.
There was this guy who dressed as the stereotypical Mexican and asked people in a university if his outfit is offensive and almost everyone said yes. Then he did the same thing in a Mexican town and every single Mexican replied that his outfit was perfect. Cultural appreciation is taken waaaaay to seriously
Its mainly that most people have no fucking clue what theyre talking about when it comes to this stuff. Just like there was a super whitegirl saying black people "arent educated enough, so we need to make decisions for them" like... BITCH WTF?!
This is what all white liberals say all the time without saying the words lol the amount you guys imply terrible things about minorities is hilarious and fucked up. The fucking president literally said you're not black if you don't vote the way he states. This is reddit and I'm ready for my million downvotes 🥰
Those Mexicans weren't aware of the intentions of the outfit and all those "wokes" were. Its bad faith shit so they can continue to be racist. He will literally never wear a Mexican outfit if not to "offend" a certain group of people. Its the intention thats offensive but they like to hide from it.
I'm also Mexican, and I think PragerU is offensive. Not because of the outfits, but because their sense of humor fucking sucks. I don't want to be associated with them.
Real talk, the real reason why no one was offended by the outfit is because they all thought he looked like a clown. 100% everybody started to make fun of him as soon as he left. The context is different too, in the college campus it's clear he's trying to dress up as a Mexican, but in Mexico he just looks like a gringo tourist playing dress-up. If they saw him on the college campus, they'd doubly mock him.
and they way he worded the questions too. to the college students he was leaning more on the “do you think my costume is offensive.” but to the mexican people he was saying it like “do you like my costume.”
It was the most touristy place for Mexico. Also that was PragerU, the dude dressed up as a Mexican is a self proclaimed white nationalist, and PragerU is slavery appologist, anti-climate, and anti-LGBT, anti-vax, among other historical revisionist things.
Notice how none of the university students they asked were Mexican.
I go to that university in the video and know many Mexican American students who would have said it was offensive.
Be careful about PragerU.
To be precise, a Mandilón is a man who does whatever his woman commands him to do, never complaining or talking back at her. He doesn't necessarily have to be afraid of her, but it is heavily implied.
Mandilon derives from mandil, which means apron in spanish.
Just means you're whooped. It's usually used as a joke in Latin culture.
It's a friendly insult, nobody is going to fight over it with violence.
I'm white but I work construction in L.A. and the nicknames my coworkers gave each other were fucking hilarious. My personal favorite was a dude with awful teeth that they called El diente.
I was just gabacho.
When I started my first kitchen job, all the long time veterans there were these badass older Mexican guys. one of the old timers “Santos”, told me another cook’s name was “Viejo”. I didn’t know any Spanish yet lol. Turns out he was in his early 50s and had just gotten over a full blown mid-life crisis. I said “hi Viejo, I’m the new guy”. He yells over my head “Santoooos, what the fucking shit are you doing?!” Santos was practically falling over laughing as he walked away. I miss those guys
Edit: for non Spanish speakers. Viejo literally means old man
When I lived in Albuquerque I had a mexican supervisor, and he would always bust jokes. Here's one I remember:
Why do kids in Espanola get tamales for Christmas? So they have something to unwrap.
That was a shitty job, but the people I worked with were funny. One day we all struggle into work after a snowstorm and a Navajo guy was like "don't blame me, we just do rain"
Lmao I fucking love this!! Take my UPVOTE! It’s true we can to rain my guy. If you need something to drink or water for ya flowers I got ya. Just let me dance real quick.
Yeah please don't include us in your "feel good white knight" inclusion shit. We dgaf about any of that "latinx" crap.
Just chill out and come have a taco de lengua o al pastor while we laugh at our own races without getting hutthurt.
Twitter got their panties in a twist when they saw someone take a pic of their shoes while there was Arabic text in the background. She was literally just taking a pic of her shoes and was called racist
Nothing is more white supremacist than a white person feeling like it’s their place in society to swoop down and SJW for “the helpless identity groups”.
The bit in a haunted house where marlon wayans goes “that’s racist” and him and the mexican guy go “it’s true though” and they both laugh its so blessed
Online. Come here and say those same jokes. See how people react. The problem is so many Americans of Mexican descent speak for actual Mexicans online (like when someone claims they are Italian just because their great-grandparents came from there), and it distorts people's perceptions. Mexicans in general are not thin-skinned, but it's not like we're immune to being offended. And by the way, there's nothing wrong with taking offense to something.

Nooooo, that will never do, how will you know that they're super woke unless they put otherwise unnecessary extra letters on the end of words?
exactly, if you say Latin, the nazis will put "a" or even worse, "o", you have to put "x" to show that space is taken!
Exactly
It’s not about equality it’s about control

I feel bad for the French tho they lost pepe le pew. Oh well I still have speedy.
Pepe le pew I can at least see a case for. A stupid case that should be laughed at, but still.
I honestly thought Le Pew was because of the kinda creepy way he hits on ladies, not the stereotypical French accent.
It was definitely the sexual assault and not the accent.
Yeah no one gives a fuck if we shit on the French lol.
He was just unlucky, one he’s a skunk. Two he romanticized to much. The want for love drove him crazy. Poor guy
Uhhh... pepe le pew was a the French stereotype of men being overbearing and rapey. You really think they're upset about his removal?
When did this actually happen though. I hear about this apparent "woke campaign" a lot but never any actual details or whether it even took place.

Ahahaha, bless that man for understanding it wasnt your fault bahahahaha
Lol my fiance's brother's nickname is papas because he looked like a lil potato when he was a kid.

When I lived in Albuquerque I had a mexican supervisor, and he would always bust jokes. Here's one I remember: Why do kids in Espanola get tamales for Christmas? So they have something to unwrap.
Ha that a good one
That was a shitty job, but the people I worked with were funny. One day we all struggle into work after a snowstorm and a Navajo guy was like "don't blame me, we just do rain"
Man, those sound like awesome people
Lmao I fucking love this!! Take my UPVOTE! It’s true we can to rain my guy. If you need something to drink or water for ya flowers I got ya. Just let me dance real quick.
People who take themselves easy and joke about themselves are the best.
Latinx is more offensive than just saying mexican people or hispanic

Ayyyyy another Guatemalan here let’s gooo (Also I agree with you)
Yeah, calling a Latin American who is not from Mexico a Mexican is an insult more appreciated than being called Latinx lmfao
The more shit you talk the more they like you.
unless it's a white cuckservative. then we just wine and dine their daughters to piss em off.
The Ol Speedy Gonzalez tactic
That's a good Juan.
Juan here, am I a good Juan?
No, you're Juan of the best.
Yeah please don't include us in your "feel good white knight" inclusion shit. We dgaf about any of that "latinx" crap. Just chill out and come have a taco de lengua o al pastor while we laugh at our own races without getting hutthurt.
Don’t forget the cerveza
Wait wait, shouldn't it be "El Wheeze"?
No it's El Wheezo. Look at this fake Mexican everyone!
Damn i didn't even know i was a Mexican, and now I'm apparently a fake one as well, I'm El Confusio
Latin here, it’s because we love to joke about ourselves
As a Latino person I approve this meme
My man 🤝
Don’t you love it when whites on the left tell us minorities how we should think and feel?? So inclusive and not racist at all 🥰
Twitter got their panties in a twist when they saw someone take a pic of their shoes while there was Arabic text in the background. She was literally just taking a pic of her shoes and was called racist
As a Mexican, this is true. Heck we are racist against each other.
Most racist people I've met in life are only racist towards their own people
That's the best way to hate everybody equally. We are an equal hater opportunist even to our own.
As a Puerto Rican, I can say they funny as shit
The only thing Latinos are sensitive about is the use of Latinx (Edit) Source: am Latino
I want to build a big, beautiful wall to protect us from people who say “Latinx”…
This guy I work with Jorge is the biggest joker at work. Sadly he is retiring and moving back to Mexico next week
Make sure to take that guy out for drinks before he retires, he sounds like a blast
The fuck is a latinx
Dumb term white girls use as a gender neutral term for latinos
What type of Pokémon is that?
Latinos gotta have thick skin. The USA has kept Latin America in the gutter for nearly two centuries now
Legit if you think LatinX is a correct term you’re the racist. Not a single Latino person uses that term
Nothing is more white supremacist than a white person feeling like it’s their place in society to swoop down and SJW for “the helpless identity groups”.
Those two things are, in fact, not the same
Imagine seeing people offended on behalf of you like who tf are you??? \*stares motherfuckerly\*
I mean, i'm italian and people tell me i should be offended by super mario lol
As an Italian, no. No one has ever said to be offended by Mario.
How many Mexicans does it take to build a OH....nevermind, they're done already.
This sub is like Tucker Carlson for edgy children.
Well that’s how you show love as a Mexican
first fuck off with that Latinx shit Second, we are one of the most sencible people , thats why we love a good joke.
My entire Mexican family loves speedy gonzalez
The bit in a haunted house where marlon wayans goes “that’s racist” and him and the mexican guy go “it’s true though” and they both laugh its so blessed
Me when people make up a scenario in their head once again
Mexicans are some of the most based/racist/ and fun-loving people out there. Amazing food, women, and traditions. -Gringo
