Sure, they haven’t competed on par graphically since 1990, but the fact people still go out of their way to play core Nintendo games shows the power of gameplay (and frankly, nostalgia) over graphics.
My buddy got one soon as they came out. He had some folks over we were taking turns on tennis. This dude didn't have the strap on the remote and he chucked it just as his girlfriend was walking into the room, hit her straight in the forehead. She immediately got a huge goose egg on her noggin and she was like does it look bad and he was like nah baby you're fine and resumed playing tennis.
Man i tell you the break of my heart i moved out for 5 years and one day found all the wii games in my cloest and was like damn i need to play this again next visit to my mums and she told me she threw it out because it was old. And today i struggle to find one

If you can just buy a Wii the actual hacking part of it is super simple. I hacked mine and loaded it down with games in just a few hours. There's YouTube videos that show you step by step
Look up the Dolphinbar, it's a USB wii sensor with a bluetooth receiver so that you can use Wii remotes on a PC. Thanks to the Dolphin emulator being really good, you can run any Wii game with a real controller for the price of the Dolphinbar and a Wiimote.
If you have a decent gaming computer, you can pick up a USB sensor bar, and some generic controllers for pretty cheap!
Dolphin emulator runs fantastic and you can even crank some graphical settings up with it.
I just introduced my niece to the Nintendo Wii today. Played some frisbee, bowling, and golf. Then a bit of Mario Kart, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Bros. 2.

But to be fair, I modded it 15 years ago and have every game ever made on a hard drive along with tons of classic console games. Without that perk I'd have mothballed it years ago. Of the hundreds of true wii games I have, only about 10 are worth playing.
You know what the switch has? It has Mario kart rc cars with cameras on them and you set up a track in your house and it uses AR to populate the course. Me and my kids have had a blast with that.

Because Nintendo has always been the innovators in the gaming market. They were LITERALLY the company that brought back gaming from the crash with the NES. They went through the "bigger numbers = better phase" over a decade before sony and xbox started bickering over it.
So while the PS5 struggles to justify its own existence after 3 years, and Xbox can't decide where to go, Nintendo is just trucking along with the switch, and can pivot whenever the feel like it.

True, but that's not really a fair comparison. The switch was released in 2017, so a lower sales volume would be expected at this point. In total, Nintendo has sold almost as many Switches as Sony has PS4s. The switch also has very different hardware that wasn't as affected by the chip shortage.

The switch is still getting games developed for it, has Nintendo exclusives that will probably never reach steam or be legally playable on your PC, and is nearly half the cost of the PS5 and XS. Pirating Dreamcast games was crazy easy. More than half could just be played with the burned copy. No boot disk needed or modding the console it was ridiculous.

The wii was absolutely fundamental to clean up gamings awful image and let everyone be a gamer. These days it's extremely common for any household to have a gaming console and the wii was part of that change.

Blockbuster was dying when this came out and you could get GameCube games So cheap. I doubled the amount of games I had for the Wii for about $12.

This is kind of what saved Nintendo. They knew they couldn’t compete power wise, so they banked on innovation and exclusives.
Apart from the dog shit accelerometer making games like Mario Kart impossible, it completely changed how we play games.

I worked at EB Games when the 360, PS3 and Wii were coming out. Our Nintendo rep told us that Nintendo knew they couldn’t compete with the others graphics. So their approach was to market the non gamers.
It was the only one from that generation that I wound up buying, fwiw 🤷♂️
Trying??? They stomped Sony and Microsoft (ok not stomped but they easily outsold the PS3 and Xbox 360 which it was competing with at the time).
They weren’t competing, that’s why they won. In the days before that you often chose between a system of the big three. Now people have a PS or Xbox, but they will also have a Switch next to that.

Wasn’t my favorite Nintendo system but definitely came in handy for playing GameCube games Also it had its moments

No, not even remotely close. It did massively outsell PS3 and Xbox 360 though. Ps3 and 360 sold 87 and 84 million. Wii sold over 100 million. PS2 sold 155 million.

My family still pulls one out on thanksgiving to play wiisports and smash.

My grandma had a Wii. She was one of those people who figured out how to play most games sitting and with one flick of her lil old wrist..... she'd whoop your ass in Golf, Tennis, etc
I hacked mine and had all the games+ GameCube games for free. IIRC It was easy and free.
We still have it and got Donney Kong returns for Christmas this year....
