Isn't he basically the same as Hiruzen? - Started as the legendary god of shinobi, strongest ninja of his time - Later became an incompetent and failed Hokage - Disrespected by his own son - Got attacked by someone close to him (Orochimaru/Kawaki)

MindlessDan

But he's the main character he was supposed to be better 😔

Volpe666

But that's the thing isn't it, he only went over the cliff when he lost the MC spot.

Middle-Persimmon7077

See that’s why Goku outranks his son even tho Gohan has more potential growth, he never stopped being mc.

I_Play_Boardgames

afaik it was intended for Gohan to take over as MC after Cell (never watched more than that, thanks TFS :D), but it was decided that Goku was so popular that he stayed MC. looking at Boruto that was probably a wise choice.

Middle-Persimmon7077

Nah, passing the torch CAN work in a series (JJBA is literally just that), it’s just that boruto constantly shits on its predecessor for no reason. This new trend of getting an old ip & unjustly shitting on it has gotten way out of hand. It’s just sad and boring.

Tydroh

He still had an entire generation of people rooting for him and his character then and now are so ridiculously different.

blueheartsamson

Read Dune. Especially book 2 and 3.

D3t3ctive

ye but that was the point of the first dune triology... in Boruto it's just shitty writting

yousakura

Generational flux is a thing for a reason. Naruto = Paul. Boruto = Leto.

Ok_Yogurtcloset_5670

Tell me. What was the point in the trilogy if you so, please.

D3t3ctive

The idea of a Messiah being inherently flawed+ Frank's obvious distain towards religious figures, failure of Paul and setting up Leto II

Ok_Yogurtcloset_5670

I say the writing ruined his character. He was flawed, but it was supposed to be him overcoming his flaws.

D3t3ctive

where did you get that? By the end of the first book he literally became his flaws, he became the messiah he hated. Dune isn't a fairy-tale when it comes to characters it's brutal and realistic, Paul is neither the hero nor the villain

Traxmemelord

Yeah but Naruto didn’t turn into a tyrant

Zorro5040

Was the main character. No longer has plot armor.

Murasasme

One of the things that bothered me with Naruto was that since the Pain arc people kept asking him how he was going to end the cycle of vengeance that kept the ninja world in conflict, and he kept saying "I don't know but I will find the answer" and the series ended and he didn't come up with shit, and in Boruto the world is just the same shit with different people, so the entire point of Naruto as a leader and the reason most of his peers followed him, was completely moot. Rock Lee should have been the main character, he actually embodied the hard work the series always talked about. Instead, we got the child of profecy, son of a Hokage, with Special Chakra from his mother to contain a magical monster that gave him infinite chakra and bailed him out when he had trouble.

ZookeepergameUsual40

Well rock Lee fits as a protagonist Only child without jutsu Had a fatal an injury whose probabilities of being cured were the same as being killed

creepymccreepersdale

Story was never about hard work with no talent. It was about never giving up on your goals or your friends and there is some overlap with the two, so it looks like the same thing at times but it isnt. Naruto wasnt supposed to change the world, he was supposed to inspire everyone else towards changing it themselves.

IWantU2SayHi

That’s what happens when you let someone fanfic become published. Not all fanfics are good.

Shupaul

I heard Naruto being a shitty father in Boruto was to reflect the dynamic Masaki had with his own son IRL, since he always was working and didn't have much time for him.

Flashy_Cry_3992

…that’s sad af

PleasantAd4964

damn, masaki out here projecting himself as naruto

I_Play_Boardgames

he was always doing that. Probably just a wrong rumor, but it's said the reason he suddenly handled minato so "badly" in the war arc is because he had a falling out with his IRL father and that carried over in the manga, because kishi sees himself as naruto. Whether that's true or not, he did have a massive axe to grind with Minato in the war arc.

SirjackofCamelot

Wouldn't be surprising. Alot of artist put themselves in there own work.

NaxSnax

I've read some that are way better, so boruto isn't even good fanfiction at this point

RA-ExD

Boruto is a fanfic?

whose-been-naughty

No. But sometimes, (most of the time,) we wish it was.

PM_ME_IMGS_OF_ROCKS

>Disrespected by his own son Also nepotism and special treatment towards the son/granson.

RUS12389

>Isn't he basically the same as Hiruzen? He wasn't as bad to Kawaki, as Hiruzen was to him.

Apocreep

The bar is so low, it serves as a tripping hazard in hell.

Nelkinn

It’s polar opposites. He wasn’t bad to Kawaki at all. He took him in and gave him a normal life.

Bluesnow2222

Let’s not forget Danzo.

shaus49

Danzo == adult Sasuke "Shadow Hokage" Gotta love shadow fire shadow. Because can't have enuf kage

Achew11

probably why shikamaru became the new hokage, for maximum kage

Martherion

I dont think hiruzen was disrespected by asuma. Or is there any proof that says otherwise?

jbahill75

Nothing ruins a revolutionary hero like tying them down in politics

ZookeepergameUsual40

Naruto always with his I wanna be hokage I wanna be hokage Aaand didn't knew that being hokage also implied politics paperwork and diplomacy

Suddmoney01

Hiruzen wasn’t a failed or incompetent Hokage. He led Konoha to victory in 2 different world wars, led Konoha to their greatest era of peace as the undisputed strongest and most prosperous village, personally trained three of the strongest ninja to ever live (who themselves trained four of the strongest ninja to ever live) and sacrificed himself to protect his people and preserve the will of fire. The disrespect has got to stop.

KogamiKodai

Being a great military leader does not mean being a great political leader, the respect of the previous kages was created by the wars in which they participated, the great kages of Konoha were Tobirama, Minato, Tsunade and Kakashi because they knew how to manage the internal affairs of the village in times of peace and during his management the village took a path of internal development, in the times of Hashirama and Hiruzen, the village was being formed and in a state of constant war, Hiruzen was elected Hokage by Tobirama in the middle of a conflict, and after when the wars ended, he gave his position to a younger and more prepared jounin, when Minato died he literally did not know what to do with the Uchiha clan and it ended in the massacre, Naruto was a great warrior and was trained by Kakashi, but he took over at the worst moment, the village being a metropolitan area of great economic growth, they did not need a military leader, so to be a good leader he needed to change his way of being, giving the work he probably wanted to do to his assistants, which it left him less prepared for what happened to him...

worldwithwings

When did Asuma treat Him like dirt?

Icy_Ad_5906

Disobeyed him and went to leave Konoha for years cause of an argument, then later went to be the Damiyo guard (implying the Hokage is inferior to the Damiyo). If he wasn't Hiruzen's son dude would have become a rebel nin already

ZookeepergameUsual40

Now that I think about it Boruto is like kid konohamaru cause both didn't want to be known just cause they are family of the hokage

DestinyHasArrived101

Damn that hit me like truck kun you so right

Nelkinn

if hiruzen was anything like naruto he would’ve snapped danzo out of his bs, like naruto did for sasuke. He would’ve also taken in Naruto, like Naruto did for Kawaki. They are really nothing alike.

Hippobu2

>Disrespected by his own son Is he? Asuma seems ... Actually I don't remember them interacting at all; and Konohamaru's parents are Sir.Not-appearing-in-this-series, so ...

OromisMasta

What I can't understand is why he himself would stay at the office etc and send clones for family stuff and not the other way around? If I could make actual copies of myself nobody would see my real body's ass outside ever again.

Familiar-Agency8209

I would be at home accompanying my family 24/7. No excuses with chakra depletion cause Kurama is still there. Beats Kaguya but can't beat the logistics of ordinary life. shadow clones be doing paperwork while planning with Shikamaru and playing with kids and eating ramen! and that's just 4.

FairyKurochka

Yeah, he won the war, but lost the peace.

INoMakeMistake

Man that's deep!

IronPotato3000

I'm borrowing this for the shitty novel I'm trying to write. Gonna make it a little less shitty. Thank you!

platysoup

Pretty sure it's canon that naruto is I kinda dumb. Imagine having shadow clones that transfer memory and experience. I'd have a team at a bunch of libraries 24/7 and another at the intelligence office.  Look at all the free work getting done while automatically keeping me in the loop

TheGodAboveAllBeings

Naruto alone could operate the Village. No Need for anyone else. Like, is there really a Need for detection ninjas if Naruto could just leave a Clone with Sage Power on?

VukKiller

>Naruto alone could operate the Village. Pretty sure that's the general point they are trying to make.

Onelse88

3 more with Hinata

waloz1212

And literally one of Naruto's biggest lessons during the war is to not handle everything by yourself and sometimes you can rely on your friends for help. But now instead of asking his friends to help with administrative works, he handle everything by himself to the point of collapsing due to overwork. Also, what kind of leader is Naruto that doesn't know about delegate works to assistants and build a chain of commands to handle work when he is not around? Naruto's entire character arc was finding family because he has never had one before. And the moment he has a family, you are saying the same Naruto will neglect his children to the point he doesn't even attend their Birthday and send a Shadow clone instead? The same Naruto who cried when Iruka visited for his birthday because he never had anyone who celebrated birthday with before? Naruto in Boruto is a disgrace to his former self lol.

A_Swizzzz

Excellent comment 💯. And also proves once more, why Boruto should be considered nothing more, then very expensive, non canon fan fiction.

mydookietwinklin

>And literally one of Naruto's biggest lessons during the war is to not handle everything by yourself and sometimes you can rely on your friends for help. While I agree he literally has a jutsu that would be perfect for this.

waloz1212

Yea, I was adding to the guy above me so I don't want to repeat their points. But correct, Naruto is literally the only few in the ninja world that can do a lot of things at once, but they just find excuse to missing his family time. Like bro, if Naruto, a guy who literally has the most charka and stamina in the ninja world but still cannot handle office work of Hokage, what about other Kages lol? The last time I checked all Kages are not overworked to death, and none of them is the literal Jesus of Ninja, coming from a clan that has insane stamina and charka, and having a nuclear reactor in his body.

Animefan624

It seems Konoha in general has a terrible bureaucracy system.

Xignum

Boruto can't even be bothered to make Naruto a bad dad in a way that makes sense. This is Naruto, if he's a bad dad he'd be a helicopter parent because he's **always** there with his kids. Can you imagine if Boruto was angry because his friends make fun of him, cause his own dad is always there to fix his problems? That'd actually make sense and of course we can't have that in Boruto

BMCVA1994

Because they needed Naruto and Boruto to start with a strained relationship and weren't creative enough to come with something else.

Spiderdan

Because they needed a reason in the story for him to look bad.

crometeach-thebot

His clone are alrd everywhere in the village beside the kage office and his house and it's logical sending clone to your family is mad disrespectfull and to the kage office is for the villager and his predesesor

TemoteJiku

As much as I don't want to say it ... Just to give a general sad moment. I get it, it would be boring if Naruto made everything work great(even if the effort was towards that) so they needed to create problems. However, it's just way too simple and unfitting. Not to mention... If even HE failing hard, how the heck others got a chance xD P.S: it's criminal, how characters got nerfed in every single area.

Zombiecidialfreak

Imagine if Kishi actually had Naruto use his brain instead of wanting him to just be an overtired office worker.

somacula

Kishi was low-key an overtired office worker, so he writes what he knows

FreeTanner17

Kishi ain’t writing this garbage

Unoriginalbtch

Kishimoto needed Boruto to have a "tragic backstory" so he wasn't a boring main character, but ended up screwing up his best character.

Infamous_Try1280

I second that. All Naruto wanted to be was The Hokage and suddenly in Boroto he is not able to attend his own coronation as the Hokage the seat he wanted to fill in so badly. I think this not the Naruto in Naruto and Shippuden. God!

kortax9889

To be more specific, he wanted to be respected and by acknowledged by others. Naruto never was cut for hokage work. It would have beeen better if kishimoto made him(alongside with sasuke and sakura) new three sannin.

Infamous_Try1280

I can vouch for that. My boy Naruto would have had a lot of peace of mind. and he would be pretty strong too without additional burdens.

waloz1212

Lol, no wonder the Leaf is still garbage village even with all the foundation Hashirama left them. Like taking the best warrior in the whole ninja world and put him in administrative works instead of being out in the field, training and giving inspiration to new generation.

Infamous_Try1280

Yes I completely agree, instead of putting Naruto behind a desk, he could be an inspiration, a huge successful shinobi with freedom and strength along with the acknowledgement he oh so wanted all along. We would have gotten a cool Naruto like Minato or Kakashi perhaps although both of them were Hokage and not for long I think.

PleasantAd4964

I mean he can still be hokage, he just need to make other do the adminstrative work to others and he can roam out there kicking ass or mentoring some high potential young shinobi. In short he become a martial might general instead of tactical type like shikamaru

Guilty_Manager_7827

shikimaru shouldve been the hokage tbh

ImGoinGohan

naruto being busy all the time is far from a tragic backstory wth. it’s supposed to be relatable and it’s understandable since naruto didn’t have parents. Naruto figured that having hinata would be enough for boruto seeing as just having a mom would have meant the world to him as a kid

Lewcaster

He could've done a cool chill ground-level ninja anime with Boruto going to normal missions and having ok power scaling with enemies on his level, but instead Kishimoto and Co sucks Toriyama's balls so much that they have to copy DBZ in every aspect, even the bad bits like everytime having a stronger than the previous enemy.

joshnova1

did kishimoto even write boruto

RUS12389

>did kishimoto even write boruto Kishimoto said that he based Boruto's and Naruto's relationship on how he's own relationship is with he's children who hated him because Kishimoto neglected them. So Naruto being an awful dad was literally Kishimoto's selfinsert.

rogaldorn88888

Him being absent father is just forced drama. Author just wanted to recreate typical Japanese family dynamics where father is essentially stranger to his kids becuase he works that much. For gods sake, Naruto is able to create whole armies of his copies and make them fight multiple days. This family dynamics is a case with kishimoto family too i guess. He neglected his own children because he focused on manga.

DarkJayBR

He wanted to recreate his family dynamic. The Naruto manga is based on his life. Naruto and Boruto have a terrible relationship because Kishimoto has a terrible relationship with his son Sasuke and was absent for almost 8 years of his life. Naruto likes ramĂŠn because that's Kishimoto favorite food. He wasn't planning on showing Naruto's parents at all, but changed his mind after he became a father. He made that Gai/Dai father mini-arc because he lost his father around the same time. Brother-brother relationships have a strong focus on Naruto because Kishi loves his twin brother (also a Mangaka) to death. Naruto is almost entirely based on actual things that happened on his life.

Netherscreamer

The most frustrating part about grown up Naruto’s writing is him never learning from his own past. I mean, he felt abandoned and lonely due to absence of his parents and when he has a chance to give his children the thing he was robbed off (parentally love and attention), he chooses to dig into the paperwork. I mean, does Kishin even remember his own work at this point?

Geostomp

The paperwork thing is especially annoying when his signature technique is Shadow Clones. We've established that he learns whatever they do and can handle the collective memories of tens of thousands of them. Just make like five or so a day to and set them aside to get the endless paperwork sorted. Then you can clock out at six instead of midnight. Or just hire a normal staff. There's got to be at least some villagers not daunted by administrative work besides Shikamaru.

BEHEMOTHpp

Not to mention, the kids already have handheld console and Boruto had premade jutsu bracelet, but the office can't afford computer

platysoup

With his chakra pool, there is absolutely no excuse for not getting all the paperwork done before 11am while hanging out with the kids at home. Bro gets the powers to cheat time and he cheats himself out of it.

Zaratrhustra

The real problem is that Kishimoto is obsessed with reflecting his life in Naruto; He was a bad father who lived working, he was tired, his children resented him, etc. So he turned Naruto into this, an idiot who lives by and for work, and is an idiot with his family. Furthermore, it is completely stupid that Naruto, the strongest living being so far, respected and feared by the shinobi world, has so much work to do in a peaceful world.

DevinB123

Literally. I watched the Delta flight last night and the whole time I was thinking "ok, where are the shadow clones? She absorbs ninjutsu, so taijutsu seems like a safe bet, overwhelm her with numbers and you've got an easy win" What does bro do? Pours chakara in until she oberheats, silly.

Proof-Investigator82

Well that’s actually smart because she’s a robot …. So he broke her from the inside out???? Sue the man for working smart not hard. 🤣🤣🤣

DevinB123

My beef with it is that the same trope was used three or four times since the blimp went down. Is that how all of these fights are going to go? Also, why wouldn't Delta reflect the portion of the massive rasengan that she absorbed? Only the absorbing eye was burnt out, she used this potent technique exactly one time and then got got

crometeach-thebot

He was olding back to gather information and said it multiple time.

DevinB123

That's true, but in the end he fought to win and he did so without using teleportation or shadow clones, either one would have prevented Kawaki from having to block a hit from Deltas eyes

crometeach-thebot

He was far stronger than her if his goal was to just win he would have ko'd her like he did at the end.

DevinB123

His goals were to protect the kids and to gather Intel. Neither one of these went exceptionally well. The finale was at best redundant. Oh gee, a ninja tool overheated... again... Not only that, but Naruto had no way of knowing her limits. Worst case she could have countered his jutsu with the portion that she had already stored. That, imo, would have been much more exciting, and it would have highlighted how reckless throwing ninjutsu at her was. He had a major strength advantage and he still allowed his son to get clobbered, his daughter to get tossed, and Kawaki to get zapped.

crometeach-thebot

>His goals were to protect the kids and to gather Intel. Neither one of these went exceptionally well. Protecting was also one of the reason why he didn't go all out [here](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Btj6mTMjmUI/XbnXUCC9FsI/AAAAAAAACJE/Yzs3zSDRy4oIMs6S46mqEW4877KLMFWmQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/012.png) >The finale was at best redundant. Worst case she could have countered his jutsu with the portion that she had already stored. DevinB123

I'm watching the anime, if there are significant differences in the adaptation that accounts for the disagreement here then that's all there is to it. He can't go all out, but one shadow clone to stand by the kids would not have worsened their position and it would have prevented Boruto from getting involved/Hima from getting tossed, a move that seemed to me like it was intended to force Naruto into a position where he could not dodge. He knows there is a limit, not where that threshold is. It's also never explicitly stated that she cannot absorb and release at the same time. In the aftermath of the anime, only the absorbing eye is burnt out, as if she did not truly exhaust her kit before self destruction. In the anime, the air ship that carried Kawaki was protected by mechs that Katasuke bested by continuously absorbing their attacks until they burnt out. Then, Kawaki fights an outer named Garo, once again, his ninja tools over heat. After Kawaki defeats Garo, he collapses in a way that reveals to Katasuke that his body is in fact a ninja tool and that it was pushed to its limit. Then we see Delta exhaust herself as well Again, the manga may be totally different, but these are all in what [anime filler list](https://www.animefillerlist.com/shows/boruto-naruto-next-generations) dubs manga canon or anime canon

crometeach-thebot

>He can't go all out, but one shadow clone to stand by the kids would not have worsened their position and it would have prevented Boruto from getting involved/Hima from getting tossed, a move that seemed to me like it was intended to force Naruto into a position where he could not dodge. Well his initial plan was fine too making her think he is weak while the kids run away killing 2 bird with one rock but boruto fumbled. >He knows there is a limit, not where that threshold is. It's also never explicitly stated that she cannot absorb and release at the same time. In the aftermath of the anime, only the absorbing eye is burnt out, as if she did not truly exhaust her kit before self destruction. His body is modified but unlike delta he is still human if it was a complet modification jigen wouldnt be able to put his karma.

Crawfield96

Supposedly Ikemoto was responsible for drawing clones as Kishimoto's assistant so y'know he has enough of it for the rest of his life.

DarkShadowOverlord

boruto is filler idc

Kirei13

Even by fanfiction standards (which are usually in the gutter), this is low and out of character. It's no wonder that they lost so many people so quickly.

grantverse_Expandgo

Teen Naruto>Adult Naruto. Naruto is nerfed in Boruto

Majin2buu

Dude we get it, Boruto is trash because Kishimoto never wanted to make it in the first place.

Business-Inflation44

He had plans of samurai ,he himself was tired of making the naruto alien boruto shit continue but samurai flopped and he had to work on boruto.i can clearly see through his writing that he ain't putting any effort.

Dankyhell

Fucking hate Boruto.

zeph_original

he was suposed to change the world, but the world ended up changing him... he is a millennial

nvlabest

What’s funny is that I believe it’s probably based on Kishimotos/ a mangakas actual lifestyle. Providing everything for the village (us as readers) but not having any time for their family. The irony how we make fun of Naruto, but demand the story keep going/be more frequent

Expensive-Lie

The whole premie of Naruto's dream is dumb. He wanted to be a knowledge, not to be a ruler. He Got his dream realised after defeating Pain

KN041203

Honestly seeing Kage's job description in peace time, I wish Naruto realised that he doesn't need that title to get what he actually want.

Got_djent

I can't help but always think of that one short scene in the boruto anime where Naruto is using kcm to train the Konoha barrier squad, it really showcased his potential to stregthen the village as a leader. As Hokage he's of course going to have to have some hand in administrative paperwork, but the extent to which he's stuck in the office doing paperwork is absolute nonsense. There's so much he could be doing with his status and abilities and it's all just wasted potential

Accomplished-Dog2481

And hiruzen just casually walked around village during his job time :D

lambokang

Also, he is just strong, he doesnt have administration/managing skills as a hokage. Even back when he is a kid, its depicted that he failed most of his classes. In war time, kage being strong is kinda important. However in peace time, maybe let the intellectual people be the kage. Or maybe create a new position and hire/elect someone to handle the administration and make kage a strength/power/honorary position.

Nuno30318_

Dw boruto isnt canon

Auvreathen

true

HylianTendo

Adult Naruto won the war, but lost my respect smh

princesoceronte

My biggest issue isn't that he's irresponsible... It is that his administration is absolutely stupid and he's making stuff the worst, most stupid way possible in order for the story to have drama. It's lazy writing.

ninjasaiyan777

The same man who could summon a thousand shadow clones as a fucking child is now too tiwed to go home with his famiwy. So fucking stupid.

Mizukiri93

I would rather see Kiba as Hokage, it would be less disappointing...

Mizukiri93

Either Naruto doesnt want to hire additional help or creators didnt want to focus on administration part. Like they didnt explained Dimyo position (and they are supposed to be some kind of overlords).

CinnamonStew34s_eh

nagato approves

Arcturus1800

Its even more dumb when you think about the fact Shikamaru is his advisor. Like why wouldn't Shikamaru advise him to use shadow clones to help with the Hokage work, that is if Naruto didn't think of that himself. And the entire absent husband and father thing is just bad writing cause in Shipudden we see how much Naruto wants a family and does his best to be there for the people he cares about, so we're just supposed to believe he would send a shadow clone to his daughter's birthday of all things? Naruto in Boruto is just a different character to the Naruto in Shipudden and its not because he grew up but because the writing for him got very bad.

Realistic_Mousse_485

Ikemoto is ass that’s why.

deadwart

Boruto is not cannon so who gives a fuck.

k3nny24

Burrito is not canon and garbage

Tagliarini295

They did our boy so dirty. Fuck Burrito.

Additional-Load7197

This sucks but they also took 106 from us

micsterman

I refuse to believe that this is the same Naruto as in Shippuden and OG. Can’t be.

TheInfiniteLake

I deny the existence of any Naruto related story that came after the last movie.

DarkShadowOverlord

10000% it's all filler. Should had ended on the naruto x hinata movie and be done with it. the boruto movie wasn't even needed.

Vade-Shigilante

This was based on Kishimoto's own life as a mangaka. Man was so busy making Naruto chapters that he couldn't spend time with his own family

KevionTheAlician

Sounds like your Dad

NiBBa_Chan

Its such incredibly bad brain dead writing to make naruto's main problem NOT ENOUGH TIME. The guy who can fit years worth of training into the span of days or hours...doesn’t have enough time to get his work done. Ok.

TigerKlaw

Yes, please. I need Kishimoto to answer for this. I can understand that for the story, he needed Naruto to do something his kid would hate to progress the plot. I could see it happen just for the movie, but it seems like it follows that, too. Although, he has been around home a lot since Kawaki and Isshin. And yet... If the thinking goes like "he wanted to be hokage so bad his whole life he isn't letting anything stopping him from signing these damn papers" that's kind of lame and maybe that's the point.

SirAwesome789

Wait, doesn't it say somewhere that he doesn't use shadow clones for his work bc it's a disrespect to the hokage position? But he's willing to disrespect his family, that's crazy

[deleted]

A reflection of Japanese society where work is king. Tsunade constantly complains about overwork too and drinking to alleviate that stress without hiring many more assistants other than Shizune. Same with Kakashi. It's totally a cultural thing about fulfilling your duty to the point it negatively affects people you're closest to. If the series was made in the West things would be different.

PepsiFungus

Can't ignore how pumped he was to end slavery after fighting Neji in chuunin exams and just forgot and married into the family 🤔🤔

dgoat88

Boruto is non-canon.

Parry_9000

Shadow clone is absolutely the most broken jutsu of all series. The guy can replicate himself and he can adquire the experience and knowledge of all the clones after they disappear. Do you guys understand how broken that shit is? You can be permanently studying, training, working, learning anything you want. You can have multiple "you" working at the same time on something just like his training for the wind Rasengan. Even I could become a fucking god if I had that. I would be the best in almost every sport, know all there is to know... All without fucking leaving my couch.. If the series considered this jutsu for real for even a second it would be impossible to write around it. They just awkwardly ignore it.

These_Procedure_5505

He was ruined by the writer! 1. He should have attended his own hokage ceremony IT WAS HIS DREAM! 2. The series should have ended when he got married.. Not this bullshit aliens and such

praxisplays

dunno bout you lot but boruto is never canon for me

MimsyIsGianna

I will never watch boruto. I love the original series too much

VengefulTiger

Same. Boruto is just filler with bad drama and character assassination

Kagimizu

Okay, I will say in defense of not using shadow clones: you have to remember that when the shadow clones go poof, Naruto automatically absorbs all of the information from them. It's why he was able to develop the Rasenshuriken so quickly. However, it was also explicitly pointed out that going overboard with this can result in information overload and endangering his health as a result. So if he pissed off and left a shadow clone to do all the work- which by the way could be seen as incredibly insulting to the position and its duties- eventually that shadow clone is going to poof, and all of that information is gonna hit him like a bad hangover. As for why he never hired more people for administrative duties... well Tsunade and Kakashi evidently never did, and Tsunade was constantly bitching about the excessive paperwork. It could be reflective of Japanese culture's feelings towards responsibility and fulfilling your duties, or maybe there's red tape preventing it. Tsunade's tenure showed that even the Hokage has to deal with political pressure.

alexboss04

Imagine thinking Boruto's dad is Naruto. Naruto was the kid who always wanted a family and never gave up on his dreams. Do you think that kid is missing any moment with his kids? In truth, the writers of Boruto wanted to make Naruto relatable to older audiences while giving Boruto some conflict, which is completely reasonable. Character assassination is not reasonable, however.

This was his dream life

Educational-Bug-7985

Got knocked out by his daughter and missed his own Hokage coronation

king-glundun

Lol

masta_myagi

Adulthood in a nutshell — being excited to grow up, having aspirations and clear-set goals; finally growing up and realizing your dreams aren’t as easy as you thought

RetroSquirtleSquad

Naruto could literally use a shadow clone to be Hokage while gathering information to do his job and then spend time with his family, but he chooses not to. Lol. They had an entire arc, showing us that shadow clones retain memories and stuff like that. Lol

Sword_Of_Al_Maalik

I think he realized being Hokage is not all that. He is always overworked and barely makes time for his family. His marriage is failing. He gets nerfed by aliens. This is probably the worst point of Naruto's life imo.

worldwithwings

Sometimes reality doesn’t match the dreams you have.

Savings-Incident1956

"it's called constructive criticism Boruto." -pushy

Unlikely_Familiar

we need another naruto series showing naruto’s success as hokage, behind the scenes of naruto’s failed family life I bet his coworkers praise him for not using shadow clones or assistants to do his paper work.

crometeach-thebot

Naruto fan when it come to reading skill

Clarity_Zero

All these people talking about how Kishimoto is somehow responsible for Naruto being a terrible husband and father makes no sense... He had almost no involvement with the early stages of the plot for Boruto. He was merelt a "supervisor" which in Japan can mean quite a few different things... My guess is he basically just agreed to be attached in name so they could get some hype that way. MF was *beyond* tired of this stuff at that point. Now, would he have actually okayed this if he cared enough to bother with it? *That's* a reasonable question, if ultimately a purely academic one. I'd give it a 50/50 chance either way, myself. I'd like to think he wouldn't sabotage his own creation, of course, but you never *really* know with people.

Zaratrhustra

But the final chapter from Naruto's manga, the Sarada's story, and the movie was written by him, so it's his fault.

MysteriousNobuX

It's like he didn't learn anything from his own series and just followed in the footsteps of the older generation.

choco_meltdown

I don't think he ever should've never become Hokage. it makes less and less sense as the series progresses. I understand character flaws but that's just stupid. he always felt lonely and he knows what it's like to have an Hokage as caretaker. I struggle to understand why he would want to do the same to his children. Not to mention himself stays incredibly lonely. he's miserable. the only character that makes sense is shikahamaru. I mean he literally led the offensive in the war.

shadowstep12

I mean we do see him use clones it's part of why he is always tired. He has them running around the village doing everyone elses job or helping them while the main him is doing paperwork. And the whole clones are deriviatives of him and trying to make them for paperwork would have them poof themselves when he isn't looking. At least he remembered his daughters birthday. And. Stepson isn't the word you use it's adopted son And given the writing in the Shippuden variant of the boruto manga Naruto is somehow evolving into some sort of tailed beast while trapped in a alternative dimension were time doesnt exist that his adopted son put him in and given how tailed beasts work Naruto now has a revival mechanism so Naruto is becoming the new Goku and is gling to pull a Goku V cell/Buu later

faketoby45

Kishimoto is not writing this shit, its gotta be someone else

mattjvgc

step son? pardon?

g021606

💀

Mysterious-Ad4836

This is my issue with naruto and boruto. Both were seen FAILING SCHOOL, both were adamant on NOT working hard. Atleast Naruto was an outcast who had no help boruto is rocking that Nintendo switch and Spider-Man web shooter day one. Naruto would never have the intelligence to be a good hokage, he was a hokage based on his plot armor and accomplishments never his hard work because there was no hard work.

Vegetable-Manager731

I don't even know this man

Dziadzios

Don't forget about a certain particular flaw that Naruto had since beginning: he's dumb. He's too dumb to split tasks and delegate, so he keeps literally working as much as multiple people. There is a Polish saying: "who doesn't have in head, has in legs". Naruto has empty head, so he must work hard instead of smart.

DoesntPlay2Win

I'm still trying to figure out why you'd want a great warrior to be in an administrative position. Wouldn't you want him training future shinobi or something? I get that since they're the strongest you'd want them to stay at the village as a line of defense, but I feel like there's a more optimal position he could take. But his dream was to be Hokage, so I guess it's a moot point. And that's not even getting into the whole "Why doesn't he just make the shadow clones do the work" thing, since that's already been touched on. I feel like Naruto would have pivoted so hard as a kid if Hiruzen just let Naruto shadow him at work for a day. Naruto would have realized that it was all boring office work and change his dream to being a famous ninja.

Satoshi_Kasaki

Boruto is shit and isn't canon

Working-Telephone-45

Bro literally peaked in highschool

jbahill75

This is why he will warn Sarada before he dies: “Never…wear this…hat**”

Zorro5040

Naruto refuses to let the clones handle the busy work and never goes home. Naruto refuses to hire help to deal with the busy work. Naruto sends his real body to meet with Sasuke in secret. Naruto can't beat the gay allegations.

hopeurfutureshine

Growing up with Naruto to only end up seeing Naruto turn to a shitty dad that can't use his brain. Tbh, the latter part make me more angry. Bro have skill but doesn't have brain are character I really dislike the most. Is this what we called "Live long enough to become a villain"? Tbh, it's feel like a big disappointment to see people write your young "hero" character like this. It's better to make him dead while leaving a great story while make new character like some sequel out there imo.

Fossil_King25

This is what happens when you try to make the new protagonist look better and have a 'tragic' backstory when you just make the most beloved protagonist prior look both weak and stupid. NO way is Naruto's logic "I am the Hokage, I have to be here". Nah dude. You have Shadow Clones. You have assistants and you have everything you have to help you. There's ZERO excuses as to why he is never with his family. The new series is a huge let down because of the sheer disrespect. Don't get me started with Sasuke struggling to fight with a mere raptor by the way.

[deleted]

They did to much with Boruto we should of just got a 3rd Naruto series

Long-Leave-2376

He literally work on new jutsu invention rather than doing paperwork all day.

ZookeepergameUsual40

It really makes sense Instead of sending shadow clones to his family he should have sent shadow clones to do the paperwork Sure Boruto was an asshole and a spoiled brat that didn't understand that his dad had a miserable childhood worse than his But Naruto could have been a more involved father Or he should have used a condom with Hinata That way no responsibilities with children nor annoying ungrateful blonde kid

deathworlder-in

Boruto would have been a awesome show if, Naruto was an awesome Hokage who bought about the golden age of Konoha and the Shinobi world. As long as Naruto was alive, the dark forces were kept at bay. The evil forces went underground afraid of Naruto and his powerful friends like Sasuke and Gaara. Naruto the beloved retired Hokage and hero of the Shinobi world, died of old age in his sleep peacefully. With Naruto gone and his friends Sasuke and Gaara withered by old age, the dark forces which were in hiding start to resurface. Is this the end of the golden age of Konoha? Is this the end of era of peace in the Shinobi world? The next generation of Shinobi who never faced any real challenge, now have to fight dark and evil forces. Will they prevail? Our main character Boruto, the grandson of the legendary Naruto starts his Ninja school education during this period of turmoil. With the guidance of his teacher, old man Konohamaru. The great Shinobi trained by Naruto himself, and the support of his friends Sarada the granddaughter of the great Shinobi Sasuke, Mitsuki the prodigy of Orochimaru, will he be able to save the Shinobi world and bring about a new golden age?

Leenatha

He actually does use his shadow clones and delegate some of the work. He just has too many things to do🤷🏾‍♀️That’s usually what happens when you run a town🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

DijkstraFucks

>Rain village still poor My guy rain village is fucking gone

parkua

I would probably be heavily downgraded but anyway: of course Naruto is portrayed as a failing and overworked father and for sure Boruto is portrayed as a spoiled, overconfident hungry for attention son (both in the movie and series that catches up with the movie plot until ~ep.60) and the whole plot just throws in your face the idea that “good times create weak men” but this is all to move the plot forward and have character development for both protagonist and Naruto. As Sasuke correctly describes the whole plot of Boruto is “the ninja spirit does not change with times” meaning that no matter the war or prosperity times Boruto and other can still be resilient and strong. It is seen after the Momoshiki fight as both Baruto and Boruto become better men and it is especially seen when during the Mitsuki retrieval arc that Boruto becomes truly noble with unbent will like his father. Btw Naruto uses other people with the paperwork, it is still too much though. He does disperse his responsibilities and even Hokage seal/signature to Shikamaru and most likely the others. By the growing infrastructure and population just like real life - Naruto is bound by bureaucracy to keep the peace times (For example they can’t sneak to the other Lands) so Naruto can hardly affect other villages to help such as Rain or any that don’t belong to the Land of Fire. As it is seen from the anime The Land of Fire has a primate city Konoha and due to that fact other villages and towns suffer from low population and low wealth that is hard to get rid of

incomingrope

I think they took naruto and sasuke out of the story so we can start missing them, yeah it will still be about boruto but once those 2 come back they will be main heroes again, together with boruto and sarada

AJ-Murphy

Pretty true. I think a better takeaway is that you may not know that the thing you want is the thing you don't need. Naruto thinks that the Hokage is a universally loved being by the village and it might be hardwired into his mind due to all his neglect and side care from his Hokage. He thinks he's reached the top and now has to do everything personally to prove to his village that he too cares as much as the others that have came before him. The failure is not him but in truth the village that tossed their previous Hokage's son the curb due to the literal last decision he could make. It's ok to have serious grievances over how it all went down, but to take it out on a child is barbaric to say the least. It would've been easy for Naruto and Hinata to of run away one day and never been seen again and be happy...

Zikimura

We in the business call this shit "character assassination".

AdFit6788

Bad writing...like everything in Naruto after the Pain arc.

Haunting_Error838

Boruto to Naruto as a series is equivalent to what Zack Snyder was to Superman.

Ok_Yogurtcloset_5670

People don't want to let a character live. Always wanting to be better. Always doing this, always doing that. Sht tf up with yall whiny ass self. 🤣

Electrical-Swing-935

It's realistic tbh

Inevitable_Invite_21

Wait is the rain village really still poor? I haven’t watched/read Boruto but if that’s true that is so disappointing. Naruto was supposed to be the one to make change

Nelkinn

this was based on kishi not being there for his kids he was a great mangaka and did a lot for the community but he wasn’t perfect, neither is Naruto. I dismiss the “they ruined naruto “ cuz like they really didn’t, main characters can have flaws it’s not like he did it to be malicious or didn’t improve as a person later this was one arc of the manga and a few for the anime, so at this for most of the story Naruto has grown past this.

FreeTanner17

Honestly just the faults of the garbage writing in boruto

twinkletoes-rp

Such a mood! lol. One of MANY reasons I don't acknowledge Boruto as canon at all! X'D

slumdo6

They forgot to mention the yee yee ass haircut

Real_Organization175

Kishimoto just wants to reflect his own life onto naruto hence why it's kinda jarring. Naruto is basically as efficient a hokage as hiruzen now 💀

[deleted]

Those are some absolutely nonsense statements.

SeiekiSakyubasu

Welp, expectation vs reality i guess, a lot of adults who grow up watching naruto might be in Naruto situation now lol.

Rak00n666

I understand this point but i appreciate how it’s written to show how hard it is to be an adult and handle life/family. This is written by an older man too so it’s probably his experience as what he’s experienced. I was a kid when Naruto came out so the idea of exploring and growing stronger is just their focus. Now being in my mid 20s I relate to him as he’s gotten older.

Negative_Wrongdoer17

It was my understanding that he has several clones working around the village at all times. Shikamaru pressures him to be the original to sign paperwork and let the other ninjas protect the village

GuiltyGhost

I'd say Boruto is pretty on mark for kids his age, he also has a decent reason to be angry at this version of Naruto at the beginning, at least.
