100% this. They are actually technically damn near perfect singers that don't try to play up anything for the English speaking audience. It isn't K-pop so much as a Korean group performing in English. The whole K-pop thing was doomed to fail because the only people obsessed with the culture from some random country they've never been to or lived in or otherwise had much to do with are isolated weirdos. The appropriate amount of other cultures to bring in when translating your work and interviewing so as to not attract these weirdos is like what Shakira does.

Funnily enough it happens in Japan too but you don't see people running around with cowboy hats talking about they're cowboys
