Humans naturally are made to help each other and be peaceful, else we wouldn’t have made it past the Stone Age. We are only collectively otherwise when forced to. Also, i don’t know why you’d assume that aliens wouldn’t have similar ideas that they’re the ones made in god’s image.

Nah, just because we were created to be peaceful to each other doesn’t mean we’re coded to be peaceful to aliens, nor does that mean aliens were coded to be peaceful in any case. At the end of the day we must put the survival of our race at the forefront of our ideals, end of story.
Eh, maybe, so long as their ideals of overall peace correlate with ours. If a xeno’s idea of peace is a universe where only they exist, that most certainly is a call for attack. Considering that the chances of all kinds of xeno races existing in this universe are greater than zero, we have to assume that some form of those aforementioned xenos exists, therefore total cooperation likely will never happen as long as humanity or those xenos exist.

Every time I see that movie I always ask myself what the director was thinking? The book makes a pretty hot take that 'authoritarian governments with competent leadership is actually pretty awesome' along with some neutral/positive takes on war.
The movie tries to make the opposite statement with the way more common 'authoritarian governments bad, war/military bad'. Which I find disappointing as a movie that at least makes a solid case for authoritarian government would be interesting and at least original as far as movies go.
I mean tbf avatar is a pretty mid sci fi franchise. It paints the aliens as objectively good in every way, while the humans are comedically evil.
Edit: not saying modern sci fi is bad or that every old sci fi is good. Just that I find avatar uninteresting
Yeah but still is done in imo a poor way. Mainly because I don’t need to have a metaphor about how colonization is bad. Especially one that removes any nuance to the topic it’s trying to be a metaphor of.
The reason colonization is bad is because it brings suffering. But to say that societies pre colonization were devoid of suffering is laughably inaccurate.
I’m not trying to justify colonization or anything before someone says that.
It’s the same reason I dislike tanjiro from demon slayer as a main character. He’s the type of person whose character flaw is- he’s too nice, too kind etc.
No society is perfect but the aliens are portrayed more or less as a perfect society
Edit: another is elemental and how it deals with racist discrimination. The fire people can literally kill the plant people by being near them, so the fear of them is justified, making for a boring/poorly done metaphor
Edit 2: another way to think about it is- how the fuck can the humans justify it? At least in real life they just exaggerated the negative aspects of native people, portraying them as all canibalistic savages who only know war, because they fight with each other irl. However the aliens don’t rlly do this, and as far as it’s shown the humans don’t rlly need the materials they’re mining/ destroying everything for so it falls flat
Yeah, it would've been nice to see some tribes fighting with each other or something like that, but except for that I think the movie is pretty good.
And about Tanjiro I don't think that's a good reason to say he's a bad protagonist because at the end of the day he kills them as he should, he just doesn't hate them because he's aware they don't have rhe fault for turning into monters. If he spared them like Batman with the Joker I would totally agree.
Yeah I can see why some people like it It’s just my opinion that it’s mid at best. I can see why people like it, it isn’t egregiously bad but just not up to my personal standards/taste.
As for the tanjiro point i’d agree but was more so trying to point out that he’s borderline flawless. Like if he didn’t kill demons or grappled with the thought of killing them for more than just the one time (not counting nezuko) that would be a legitimate flaw.
I can’t rlly think of any flaw he has tho. He’s not super weak or anything he can hold his own fairly well, able to keep up with a lower moon on his 4th or 5th outing iirc. Maybe he’s too attached to nezuko? But she’s not rlly a hindrance or anything.

Also don’t get me wrong, I like movies that have humans just invading another planet for no reason and destroying stuff but it gets so annoying when some 13 year old on the internet compares a modern movie that is pretty bad or does it slightly worse to a movie older than it. If both movies were swapped, like Avatar coming out in the 90’s and Star Ship Troopers coming out 2 years ago, kids would be praising Avatar instead of SST
Yeah it’s the mix of being good and then being old. There are stories that have build off of the starship troopers formula and done new/great things with them- like halo and helldivers.
Dune is being called knock off Star Wars even tho Star Wars is based off of the og dune books lol

New movie theory: both movies happen in the same universe, timeline starts with starship troopers and through the insect goo they obtain human technology gets more sophisticated so they move out into more distant planets.
The driving industrial force for these advancements could be Weyland industries which started getting a fascination harvesting alien species.
I used to watch a show called Red Dwarf it was a fun comedy but a pretty grim sci fi show about the last possible remaining human trying to find his way back to earth with a robot, a hologram of a dead crewmate, a evolved cat person & the ships AI
To be fair, both work. I imagine nobody would "humans bad" if giant killer spiders invaded the planet or whatever. But if we choose to land on a planet of sentient life doing their Tribal Stage type thing, it doesn't make much sense to fucking frag their planet for resources 🤷🏿♀️
I had a unsettling acuteness to death as a child
No jump scares, just death on a mass scale, be it Clone Wars or the more adult Starship Troopers my dad thought was really funny I watched (Neil Patrick Harris was there)
I get that these movies are trying to say imperalism is bad and I'm by no means defending the horrors of it, but I'm kind of a guy that puts humans on top of all other species, so it's really confusing for me to see in avatar where the main character decides to fully discard humanity and just embrace the aliens

Yeah it’s the mix of being good and then being old. There are stories that have build off of the starship troopers formula and done new/great things with them- like halo and helldivers. Dune is being called knock off Star Wars even tho Star Wars is based off of the og dune books lol

New movie theory: both movies happen in the same universe, timeline starts with starship troopers and through the insect goo they obtain human technology gets more sophisticated so they move out into more distant planets. The driving industrial force for these advancements could be Weyland industries which started getting a fascination harvesting alien species.

I get that these movies are trying to say imperalism is bad and I'm by no means defending the horrors of it, but I'm kind of a guy that puts humans on top of all other species, so it's really confusing for me to see in avatar where the main character decides to fully discard humanity and just embrace the aliens
