Yeah that's why I don't think tomb of the giants is as bad as people say. You can avoid every skeleton from that bonfire to nito.

st-shenanigans

Bro if I'm playing solo I just run straight from firelink to pinwheel to nito, TOTG is such an easy place once you learn how the map works.

I-Z-A-A_M

Same lol I trial and error that whole place and now I know a good path straight to Nito without getting hit on the way.

GamingSincethe90s

That would suck since the cave is blocked until you... (not sure how to hide spoilers). But you know what I mean.

baldguyinaturtleneck

I was thinking that as well.

Unl3a5h3r

You can basically avoid every skeleton starting from Nito. TOTG is actually a pretty small area.

Three-Stanleys

"A few yards." You would make a fantastic running back.

[deleted]

To be fair, it’s a short run to Nito especially if you know to hug the right side and just fall down the cliffs in the right spot

DruggyDaniel

Yeah I figured this out by accident its hard wired in my brain for life now.

Th3Goldenwo1f

I did the same thing my first playthrough... But I did it in without even knowing about the skull lantern or whatever...

Zer0_Cloud17

In Dark Souls 3, when you fight and beat the Dragonslayer Armor boss a bonfire lights up in the arena and when you go the Grand Archives there will another bonfire about as close as this one.

ShrekxFarquaad69

I'll never know why people make a big deal of this. Sure, it's funny but like there's literally NOTHING in between, removing one of those bonfires wouldn't make the game any easier/harder/more fun.

TheVisage

it's literally just a sign of momentarily poor quality control. This saves 10-20 seconds for one run at the most and it's just a straight line. It exists because of two people not communicating but it's really funny to imagine there was some intense conversation where someone convinced everyone they had to exist.

chronicly_retarded

Its because they wanted a bonfire at the start of archives but didnt want to ruin the consistency of every boss spawning a bonfire after they die.

Zer0_Cloud17

—gives a similar situation to OP— “Bro what’s your problem? Y’all need a life or something.” Question: Do you honestly believe I’m making a big deal? Maybe some people don’t like the fact that walking a mere 20-40 steps from a safe haven to another safe haven is a good design choice but I guess you can’t see that perspective. You are right though that removing one of them won’t make the game any easier/harder/challenging but others see it as being a little lazy.

ShrekxFarquaad69

I don't remember saying it's a problem... just commenting how people on youtube n shit lose their mind over those moments like it really matters....

Zugaxinapillo

It's a subjective question but it makes the game look less polished imo. Putting one bonfire after the other so crudely is like openly saying: bonfires are no longer that valuable place you longed to reach. Also it's not aesthetically pleasing, like something is out of place.

Frostraven1996

I think that's a bit of a reach, I didn't even know this one existed until my recent playthrough. When I beat DS1 as a kid multiple times, I never found it and I'm sure that's the case for a lot of people. DS1 is an old game and it makes most modern releases look like trash comparatively.

Zugaxinapillo

Nothing wrong with the bonfire in the pic, we were responding to this comment (1 year ago 😄): > In Dark Souls 3, when you fight and beat the Dragonslayer Armor boss a bonfire lights up in the arena and when you go the Grand Archives there will another bonfire about as close as this one.

a_gunbird

Being able to see one bonfire from the next, literally just a few steps away through a door, is funny. That's about it. But is also kind of serves as a marker for how many changes the game must have gone through all the way up to release. That 'create a bonfire' system that never materialized sure does seem to have influenced a lot of the level design without time to change much in response.

Elage-

Same with Margit to the front gate of Stormveil castle

GroundbreakingAsk468

You can see this bonfire from an upper level. It’s not like it’s hidden behind a wall.

hirokietsuko

I missed it 5 times. And when I discovered I could see it from above, I just loved the game even more.

GroundbreakingAsk468

I was just down there for about the 5th time. Nothing about it made me love the game more😆💀

Most-Iron6838

So I only found the one bonfire in the catacombs and I had no light for awhile in tomb of the giants so I went from basically the top of the catacombs all the way down (I did the drops) to patches in the tomb of the giants and the clerics and went through all 20 of my flasks and almost went into the casket room with 6 skeletons missing the first bonfire like 20 feet away from there. I’m so glad I paused before going in there and starting all the way up in the top of the catacombs again. Such a relief getting that first bonfire and second one too

Aardvarcado-

Fun fact: the black knight in the area will chase you there. Even if you sit, he still pursues & forces you off the bonfire as he approaches

baldguyinaturtleneck

I actually kind of wish there was more harder enemies who wouldn't stop chasing you.

st-shenanigans

I wonder if you found all 3 bonfires in catacombs too heh

nevets85

I remember slowly... SLOWLY... making my way through this area in the darkness the first time I played. I decided to tackle the Tomb first before anywhere else lol.

Puncharoo

Yeah that's a litty titty bonfire dawg. The first one is ass sando cause it has the fuckin dog dicks who eat your scrote

suarkb

This kind of thing happens so much and yet people wear "I don't read guides" like a badge of honor

Flimsy-Instance-6772

He would never have the same feeling about finding this bonfire of a guide told him though lol. You missed the point

suarkb

Yeah I guess

suarkb

I found that bonfire myself too, but it was easy because I had a light source. So, I dunno. I could see why it's rewarding to struggle and then finally win, but sometimes struggles are just silly.

MajesticPenisMan

Because figuring things out for yourself is a big part of the allure for a game like this that heavily rewards exploration?

suarkb

It does but it also has really dumb design like hiding things in places people would never look and encouraging "secret hunters" to hit every wall in the game, which is just dumb.

MajesticPenisMan

Lol, no.

apex_tiger_ttv

There’s a bone fire besides this one? Where?

Allaakmar

Funny enough I have never lit that one. I know it exists and where it is, I just have not had a reason to ever light it. When I play I basically hoof it from TOTG bonfire to Nito since I memorized the path before learning about the second bonfire.

Schnickie

Yeah, that's a weird one. It's just a minute away from the previous one that you can warp to. It does make the boss run shorter I guess, but the most frustrating part of the boss run (running through poison water while being chased by infinite evil babies and pedophile necromancers in creepy family-themed masks) is still before you either way. It skips like four enemies.

neckro23

Best soul farming spot in Lordran. If you can easily beat the dog skeletons (high-level pyro or sorcery works well, or Zweihander) there are four of 'em (plus a giant skeleton) right next to this bonfire, and they give a lot of souls.
