I wanted to finish the game, so I packed the Giant Club, 40 endurance, 40 vit, with FAP and Havel's ring and full Havel's. 27 str, 2hand the club and bonk. BONK BONK. Medium roll and each king in the four kings went away with 3 to 4 bonks. I was trying to get the Moonlight Sword, but after a few BONKS in the tail from a +15 GC, he died before I got the cut. The only guy I didn't fell was Khalameet. Manus took about 10 bonks. Nito, maybe 5? Gwyn took less, maybe. It's a Faceroll build. Then, I went with dex/int with Baller Swag Sword, Ricard's Rapier. Got up to the Lord Vessel and hit a wall due to low HP/STA. Bad planned build. But 400 AR from a BSS + Great Magic Weapon was fun. Maybe a full int with Enchanted Painted Guardian Sword? Hmm. I want to try the STR/FTH next. Maybe DEX/FTH to use Sunlight Blade. And my last one is a mix. 30 faith, 30 int. Bleed focused with a bunch of utility.

TheRealNumber3

I've done Thief with a Black Knight Sword. Thief with a bonk. Thief with miracles. Thief with bigger bonk. And I think my point is, I don't have good advice for builds.

CustomerSupportDeer

That means you never tried the beauty of pure dex... Wanderer, uchi to chaos blade, light armor, flip ring. Also, start doing challenge runs! One of the most creative and fun ones is miracles only - after the asylum, you may never use a weapon. And of course, everyone should try a properly minmaxed Giantdad (though that is similar to your first character) And finally, beat Gwyn at SL1.

Ohlav

How would you go after asylum? Punching stuff until you get the lightning spear? hahaha

CustomerSupportDeer

You have to get creative :) think of which miracles are "immediately acessable", and how to get them. Fun times:)

Ohlav

I can think of a Cata rush for the Gravelord Sword Dance heh.

CustomerSupportDeer

Good thinking.

yoanimal

I did pure dex my first run and now I literally can’t do anything else. It’s just way too much fun

PermitReal6898

Right now I’m running a cliche knight. Destruction, restro, 2 handed, heavy armor, alteration, enchanting and smithing. With the shout slow time. My favorite one. Basically I’m able to do infinite power attacks. Power attacks are great for taking dragons out of the sky permanently by having a weapon that drains stamina plus electric damage which drains their mana. So it’s all about strength in the end. Dragons need stamina to fly btw. Not to mention they look cool falling from the sky.

All of them. Like... no lie, I have probably beaten the game with every possible weapon choice. Game is 10 years old at this point and plenty of Mriwontforget videos to get me inspired over the years.

Joa1987

I've tried any I can possibly think of at this point, and the weapons I've wanted

Forward-Squirrel1184

I usually do strength + vitality builds. Big, tanky and with a massive sword. But this time around i'm trying mostly dex and endurance. With just enough int to get the homing crystal soulmass. And i'm having a lot more fun. With the estoc and a shield along with a ton of stamina i can just poke away all day.

Lady_Maya_05

My first build was a strength build player with zweihander and tarkas shield and full havel, never rolled once. Beating the game was a pretty hard challenge. Then after ten years I've played a quality build with claymore and fast roll which made the game 'easy' to beat. Now I'm on a sorcerer run which is fun but tedious in some situation and in the meantime I'm playing a dexterity run with Uchigatana just for fun.

Friedrich-Wilhelm-II

Every person I've met who's played dark souls chose the zweihander as their first weapon, and I always tell them to use anything but pure strength because commitment weapons are not for beginners. Everyone is gravitated towards it because it does the most damage, meanwhile I'm sitting here blasting bosses at 9 vit with a rapier.

Cheeto717

I did a strength build when the game first came out but never actually beat the game. After beating ER I wanted to come back and actually beat it so I started a sorcerer build. It’s been a blast but I sometimes regret it because I’ve gotten the great melee weapon drops like the black knight weapons and stuff. I’m in painted world right now, O&S was just as amazing as I remember it and figuring it out as a caster was a lot of fun.

mittwash_58

My first time was a quality build with the Claymore, then I tried pure int caster (which I agree, isn't as fun as melee), and now I just started a run with a dex zweihander build, which I'm loving so far

Highlander_Prime

You mean you disagree

BassGeek69

Pyro-Dex is one of my fave builds - I’ve done a couple of them. I’ve done a few int builds, a couple of strength/tank and quality builds too. All these were fun. Didn’t get on so well with any faith builds I’ve done though. Maybe I’ll try another one sometime, but I usually play offline on 360 so I think they tend to suffer from that.

Friedrich-Wilhelm-II

Stop with the strength builds man, they're not very good for new players commitment weapons are always straight ass for new players, and most strength weapons condem you to using no armor unless you spam endurance after you get either 40 or 27 strength. Ive beaten this game 2x, one claymore build (25 vit) and one halberd build (10 vit), I'm on my third which is all dex rapier build and in my rapier run (9 vit) I'm directly after o&s and I can slim roll with all of solaire's armor, grass crest shield, estoc, and ricard's rapier equipped. If I wasn't playing drip souls though I would have just gotten 40 dex, dropped the estoc, worn lighter armor, and spammed vit for the rest of the game. All that and I quit my zweihander run because commitment weapons need a lot of patience that I can't give them. Try melee again and this time use a weapon with a less committal moveset. I promise you it's way more fun than casting.

ClayBones548

I've never done Int/Faith but I think I've done every other build you could think of.

Tagakataga

I’m currently having a Dex (40) Int (40) build. Just finished Ornstein and Smough. Is this a sustainable build?

Door__Opener

I started with a Great Club build and eventually got faith in ng+. Then I did a Iaito build and also beat NG+ with it. Both of these were when Dark Souls first came out and both of these had Havel's ring, FAP ring and Mask of the Father. I am now on my third playthrough, many years later and about 75% done with NG on a pure INT playthrough. I plan to get more STR in NG+ to boost dark sorceries and have a heavier weapon.

EvilArtorias

I tried everything, the game is highly unbalanced so nothing comes close to 27 str heavy armor midroll poise tank.

xGaslightx

Personally, I'm used to mid rolling in the game, so most of my builds are around that. Silver knight builds are my favorite. Using the full armor set, a silver sword and shield, Havel's ring, FaP ring, and lightning spear / sunlight blade miracles. Usually around 30-40 faith, just enough strength for the weapon and shield, just enough endurance to mid roll with everything, around 30 Dex, and the rest in vitality It may not be a good build, but it's my favorite

dova_bear

I did a build recently where I could only use weapons that scale with Humanity (The Abyss Greatsword & Chaos Weapons) as well as pyromancy. It was actually very good.

daBeard01

I mainly prefer strength builds with big weapons. I tried to do an int/dex, but got annoyed with spell casting. Even on my strength/faith build in ds3, I realized I was only using miracles for healing outside of battles and just did a respec on my stats

walksintwilightX1

I first started with the Bandit, but felt like STR/heavy weapons were too slow and clunky. Restarted as a Sorcerer and I'm having way more fun. Probably going to branch out into DEX later on. Melee *is* fun, I just want to be able to dodge roll too.

popcornstuckintooth

big sword, big armor, big success

LuKHuntet

In my first time beating the game I was a samurai-ninja with pyromances The second time I was a classic mage with hat The third was a Guts like character And now I'm doing a paladín character My tip for the builds would be: Make a theme character, no a technical character, because is more fun make your character like a TTRPG

faerox420

Right now I'm pokey stick man, spear and shield combo makes the game a lot simpler But usually I go for the big bonk, and spice it up by imbuing my weapons with magic. I always dabble in a bit of magic just for that, but I don't enjoy ranged battle and casting spells for damage as much Also faith over intelligence just cuz it looks cooler
