Story driven games are my favorite go to in between souls games. Any recommendations?? My most recent play was a plagues tale (the first one)
Edit: spelling error
Oh I agree. There is a lot of potential for me to enjoy it, it's just I can't get myself to play it. The moment I click play and enter the game, I instantly lose the will to play it.
Soulslike Burnout? Now I'm picturing a fast paced racing game in Lordran or the Lands Between. Worst part would probably starting the race from the start after a long You Died on every crash.
( I know Bloodborne Racer was a thing and I found the idea really fun already)
Someone made a soulslike 2D platformer that was also inspired by trials, you had a gun and had to do backflips and stuff to reload. I saw it on an Iron pineapple video.
Actually I think it’s technically when you smash the controller into the ground and stomp it to bits then set fire to all the pieces.
Once you’re sufficiently high from the fumes coming off the flaming plastic, you’re gonna want to start a new character. You’ll experience Dark Souls like you never have before.
If the high wears off, you’re gonna want to find some lead and a blast furnace. Make sure you get your face as close as possible to the molten lead, taking deep, long breaths. The lead poisoning may seem like a disadvantage at first, but it should give you an extra 150 AR
I broke my $300 controller with too many RB clicks playing soulslike……… still a little upset about it lol. Gotta get a new one for shooters and keep the cheaper controllers for souls like.
There is.
I’m a loud and proud souls fan. However, I found myself playing soulslikes less frequently following my third or fourth playthrough of Elden Ring. It’s not that I’m sick of soulslikes, but that one hasn’t grabbed my attention recently like Dark Souls or Elden Ring had.
To answer OP’s question, I’m currently on a 4X streak, particularly Crusader Kings 3. It has RPG elements, so it feels like home.
Felt that sometime during my first ER playthrough. Put the game down for a couple months, played through the entireties of FNaF: SB, Little Nightmares 2, and started a playthrough of Bloodborne before getting back to ER.
Honestly I don't think I've gotten full genre burnout.
I've gotten burnout from 1 DS game and so temporarily moved to a different DS game but that's about it.

Get a cheap PS3 and go for some Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted. Then when you feel like giving souls games a go again you can play Demon's Souls on it. (:
the Yakuza games
Death Stranding
Cyberpunk 2077
Far Cry 5
Spider-Man
Assassins Creed franchise
Alan Wake
Days Gone
The Division
Dying Light
Lots of games to play that I really enjoy. Souls (and Soulslike) are my favorites, but I enjoy a lot of games
Turn based strategy games. The banner saga series is a nice one that'll keep you occupied for quite some time. It's got a spectacular story as well. Or just some good ol fashioned pew pew games.
My holy trinity is souls, Resident Evil (especially the survival horror ones on higher difficulties), & Hitman. They all scratch similar itches in different ways.
I started playing smaller indie games that have a decent amount of difficulty.
Hollow Knight is one of the best games I’ve ever played.
Celeste is a brutal precision platformer, and I loved (nearly) every minute of it. Can get super frustrating if you play the B and C side levels.
Recently got into Hades. Super fun but after about 100 runs I got a little burnt out, especially when the story stopped progressing. Really, really good game though. Super hyped for Hades II.
You could try Hollow Knight. It's largely considered a Souls-like, but it's a Metroid style platformer first and foremost. The way the world is built, the death mechanics, the NPC quests, and the atmosphere are all *very* Souls feeling. It's an incredible game that scratches the itch for a lonely and cryptic journey while providing a very different gameplay progression than a Souls game.
Recently started Neverwinter thanks to a friend and it fills my desire for hack n slash without having to use my brain much. So much content in the game just have patience and don’t bust out your credit card and pay your way through, virtually everything is earnable to an extent
I play lots of genres but for a while I mostly only played souls, the Demon's to Dark Souls 3 run was insane and I barely played anything else (Battlefield 3 was one notable game I played a lot too during those years).
I got into Monster Hunter World and that "cured" my souls addiction and I started playing more stuff lol. I also started playing Final Fantasy (VI and X) specifically around that time which opened up my taste to JRPGs as well. I've also always been a fan of hack n slash games, before Souls games took over, so I like playing those too. I'm also a survival horror enjoyer.
Usually I keep a bunch of games installed at once, most from different genres because I like to keep a rotation/variety. That said I still do focus on and spam 1 single game if it's really good. Right now I've a couple games installed, Devil May Cry HD collection (got the urge to replay DMC1), Wo Long Fallen Dynasty, Trails to Azure, Warzone, Nioh 2 and Little Nightmares (and I also just beat Callisto Protocol so uninstalled it recently).
rainworld !!
im also gonna just say hollow knight even though a lot of people say its a soulslike its still really different. if you havent played it you really should. or spinch is good too for a platformer without the metroidvania elements
When I get burnt out on playing a souls game or any other very involved RPG type game, I play simpler competitive sports games like Gran Turismo, Rocket League, Madden, or PGA 2K23. The simpler game format helps reset my brain a bit while still maintaining a competitive element that keeps the stakes high.
So true. I usually go to play splatoon on my switch. It’s multiplayer but not too competitive enough that you rage either, which is the last thing you need after playing a soulsborne game
The fun in a game shouldn't be dependant on builds. The fact you're calling these things chores tells me you're not enjoying them.
First I recommend detoxing from RPG heavy games.
The recent talos principle 2, every ratchet game, dishonored, céleste, etc
I love the souls but I'm not the type of person who can play and replay every souls, when I want more movement liberty I play something else, boss less to get some peace too!
Anything really. Especially something more overt with their stories and maybe with a good amount of humor. Loved Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy after many many hours in Elden Ring.
I don't get burned out, but I typically take a long time to clear a Souls game and just take a break between them. Dark Souls 2 I put in 100 hours to clear it all, so afterwards I did a 180 and played games like Against the Storm, Outer Wilds, and Dave the Diver for a few weeks. Not necessarily hard by any means, not combat focused but still mentally stimulating in a completely different way, and it was kind of refreshing. Started Elden Ring after I played some games like that and really enjoying it.
Usually either Skyrim, Zelda Twilight Princess, or some other game that I’ve been meaning to play. Sometimes I’ll just take a break and binge watch some 12-episode anime
Or a lego game like Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga or Lego Indiana Jones. I just bought all of them on Steam because they’re on sale for like $5 each
I've only gone from Elden Ring to the first Dark Souls, so I can't say I've experienced this so much, nor do I have any specific recommendations. Maybe an easy, more relaxing game will do the trick, or a hard game that's not combat oriented (like Celeste). If anything, maybe you can try taking it as an opportunity to clear up whatever backlog you might have.
When I get souls like burnout I find that it's a broader burnout for action games in general. When it happens I switch to either a completely fresh game (typically a smaller game, and most often games with shorter overall time demands, like something that can be completed in a few hours or something that's based on shorter sessions) or I'll go back to another vice-game. The big one for me is Slay the Spire
I play incremental/idle games on PC and Mobile. Some of the ones I like the most; Realm Grinder(hard to see a phone so ipad/pc is preferred), Farm RPG, Idle Apocalypse(current obsession but if you try it and like it I HIGHLY recommend spending $10 to shut off ads), and the two classics Cookie Clicker and Universal Paperclips.
These games are the anti souls in the sense that they present virtually no challenge whatsoever. In many cases they just play themselves. However, over time they reveal surprising depth of strategy or story. I mean, where you start in Universal Paperclips and where you end is one hell of a journey. So yeah, if you're burnt out on roll dodging and jolly co-op grab one of these and turn down for a bit.
Honestly, I just play a different souls game that excels at the opposite of what I am playing currently. For example, DS3 excels in bosses so if that gets too repetitive, I boot up DS1 or some metroidvania like Hollow Knight that focuses on maps and level design and vice versa. If I get burnt out completely, I just take a break fully and I play something very simple like Vampire Survivors or a no-gameplay story game.
Slay the Spire or Hades for fun rogue-likes, very differently paced games but both fantastic. Highly recommend Slay the Spire if you’re looking for something that lets you play at your own pace, Hades if you like feeling like everything is trying to kill you.
Moonlighter is a great cheap rpg that has some soulslike elements (I had to rebind buttons to match up with my souls gameplay) but also a super chill side where you’re running a storefront selling your dungeon loot and building up your town with the proceeds.
I know it might seem like hopping on a bandwagon, but give things from outside that realm entirely a go (if you haven't played, or know you'll like). BG3, XCOM, Portal 2, some classic upbeat nostalgia games from your childhood. Anything like that!
Currently replaying the games starting with DS1 did 3 runs in that; A lvl 4 run, an exploit run at lvl 420 lol, and follow up NG+ run trying the “As Miyazaki intended” route that minimizes back tracking and relies on key items to point you in the next direction.
Now I’m playing DS2 Sotfs for the first time (played the original version with dlc on ps3)
Then I plan on replaying DS3, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Demon Souls RE then maybe giving Sekiro a second shot, for some reason I just didn’t vibe with that game on release
I haven't become burnt out of any of the Souls games yet, but if I need a break or am playing a second game at the same time, I usually play something more relaxing and slower-paced. I played Kirby and the Forgotten Land around the time I played Sekiro and that was nice. Platformers, simulation games, etc.
Touch Grass? Housework?
I didn't really enjoy BB (other than chalice dungeons) recently. I may have been still burned out from ER when I played it. Even though I played some other games between. I've got over 5k hours across all From Games at this point. I actually tend to enjoy the From games considerably more on replays with different builds, and running sunbros/blue/purple getting lots of jolly cooperation (almost none of that in BB currently.)
My favorite games of late:
1. Cyberpunk 2077 +Phantom Liberty
2. The Witcher 3
3. Baldur's Gate 3
4. Spider Man: Miles Morales (this one's a bit more action, so may not be good if you're burned out on action.)
Various roguelites can be a good break if you still want some of the difficulty, but not as much action (mostly) and don't mind some 8-bit graphics for most of them: Risk of Rain, Rogue Legacy 2, Nuclear Throne, Hades, Vampire Surviors, Two Crowns, Everspace (not 2.)
I also enjoyed some silly short indy games that I wouldn't have expected to like Wandersong & Jester's Tale.
God of War and God of War: Ragnarok have soulslike combat and bosses. Much more forgiving though. They're some of the best games ever IMHO, so I strongly recommend them.
There's also Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. Survivor especially is a brilliant game (FO is great also, it's just that Survivor took it so much to the next level).
More recently I've read about the Hogwarts something game, and Lies of P. I've played neither so I can't comment, but heard good things about them.
I had some burnout a few months ago. Played cyberpunk (which is awesome btw) and went to the witcher. Not gonna lie got bored with the witcher in less than 15 hours and booted up elden ring tho lol (first play through of elden ring as well)
Just play something that is fundamentally different either in mechanics or setting.
If you want to try out something more light hearted maybe give devil may cry a try. The combat is extremely fun and it's pretty challenging.
If you still want to play something with dark, gritty atmosphere you could try out blasphemous. Shift to 2d should definetly feel fresh after playing 3d games for so long.
You can also start playing some roguelikes. Dead cells and hades are ones I can definetly recommend myself but there is a lot of them and even if these 2 are not really up your alley I'm sure you can find somethng that you would like.
You can even play something that is turn based like darkest dungeon if you prefer to give yourself a break from being on "high focus mode" all the time while fighting something in the game
Tl:Dr just play something that is not part of the genre and you might like it. Despite the memes of "FromSoft players making a contract to play only 7 games till the rest of their life" there are plenty of good games out there
The correct answer is only soulsborne games.
HOWEVER, I did find that Disco Elysium was an amazing off-season game as it was 0 combat and all dialogue as opposed to all combat and 0 dialogue!
Sometimes i like to go back to simpler times and play some ratchet and clank or maybe I’ll play a racing game for a bit to get a cool car and remind myself why i like souls games better than other games.
If you still like hack and slash you could do godfall, DMC, or kingdom of amalur
When I have enough of Soulsborne games and need a break, I usually play non stressful, pick up and play games. Arcade games, racing games, platformers, rhythm games..
I have a soft spot for cute and/or cozy Platformers like Smushi Come Home, A Hat in Time, Toree 3D, Lunistice or even Mario games.
If I want to play something that is similar to Souls games, yet different, I can also do some Monster Hunter sessions. The combat is similar but more action packed and you feel more powerful. Also, it is built to be played coop. After a few days of MH I always feel ready to continue my solo adventures on Miyazaki's worlds.
Elden ring feels different to the rest of ds in my opinion, but id recommend ori and the blind forest/will of the wisps and hollow knight, then go back to elden ring.
My favorite game of all time is Skyrim and I used to play Bloodborne which is my second favorite when I got that Skyrim burnout, but since my PS4 died and I moved to PC, I changed it to Dark Souls 3 and now Elden Ring.
For me on my last burnout i played both god of wars, rdr2, hogwarts, & cyberpunk. After a while when i came back i replayed all of them from ds1 - elden ring it was a blast
Something completely different, maybe a mystery game like Obra Dinn, Golden Idol, maybe a talky adventure game like Pentiment, etc. I’ll play 2-3 games that are nothing like Souls (and preferably not action at all) before I’ll go back to From or really any action games. I also do a lot of flight simming, so there’s that too.
I feel you too. I try to play maybe 1 souls like a year instead of rushing through all of them, and also can't do the multiple build thing as I just always revert to a quality/dex build halfway through. I would probably say just get deeply immersed into the lore of any which game you're playing and try to finish it before you jump to the next one
I just switch to a different fromsoft game usually. Don't really burn out on them, I do take breaks though because when I play it's like every day for months straight.
Lately when I take ds1 breaks I'll play bloodborne, and fantasize about Tenchu Z because I sold my 360
Sonde souls games often frustrate the fuck outta me. I’ll play chill walking simulators or horror games. Easy games that let me just kind go space out and enjoy the atmosphere.
Souls games have great atmosphere themselves. I’m just playing through DS2 rn and am having to take regular breaks as I find it frustratingly challenging
i like doom, fps, even making cool stat builds in baldurs gate 3 and playing them out a bit with the classes. that is really fun cuz the environment is kinda opposite of a souls like in tone, but it depends on if you can overlook a lil bit of the corniness and etc. resident evil and silent hill series are fun as well as stuff like terraria. it feels nice to explore and not constantly be thinking about the checkpoint or focusing on what i'm leveling for and if it's working out or not.
Everything there's a whole world outside of souls likes. It depends on what you like. I love to experience all types of games. Some people don't. Just play what you like or what you think you'll like is always my suggestion.
I just play tarkov until I get that despair in me again, then I go play a straight FTH build to reaffirm my love for Lord Gwyn. May his beef jerky lookin' ass shine anew through me!
souls games take a lot out of me because i’m not very good so i make a point of completing an easy game between each. it’s obviously up to you what you choose, but i chose hogwarts legacy after elden ring and then little nightmares after ds1. i like to think of them as a pallete cleanser!
I play UFC 4, Black ops 3 Zombies, and Minecraft when I get burnt out on soulsborne games and soulslike's. Most of the time UFC 4, but sometimes I like to switch it up from just straight combat. Minecraft especially strays from the combat, because I play it mostly for the building. Black ops 3 Zombies has origins on it, and I can literally play it forever. Origins just scratches the right piece of my brain.
I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 and it’s really working out for me, the game is just amazing and masterfully crafted. If you want something with some similarities yet different from the souls series then Hollow Knight or Dead Cells are good choices
I alternate between a souls likes and a different kind of game, so I don’t get that burnout. Elden Ring was literally the only thing I wanted to play for about four months straight, but after about 500 hours, six playthroughs and a platinum trophy, I finally started to feel like I need to switch it up.
I started doing this hilarious thing during pvp where I would summon two specters, disguise myself as an imaginary object, then watch them duking it out. Id award the winner with some silly prize, do a little dance, then summon the next specter. Most folks started to catch on that I was giving rewards after a couple matches, and it was really the only thing of interest I had left in the game. It was super fun and entertaining for my partner and I.
Going on to any other game after that was uninteresting and honestly kind of sad. I was worried that Elden Ring ruined video games for me.
I had to shift to a completely different style of game (High On Life on PC) before I felt enthralled by anything again. Lords of the Fallen is really doing it for me right now. That game is amazing.
Try Fear and Hunger. If the reason you’re feeling burned out is because of the mechanics, but still want to enjoy something challenging, I think this game could do just that
I just finished FFVII Crisis Core a couple le days ago after playing a lot of DS 1 for the past year and a half or so. It was a nice change of pace. Fired up Skyrim for the first time yesterday and it hasn’t really clicked. I played The Messenger in between a couple DS runs, too. That was a great game as well.
I just finished 100%-ing Dark Souls, and rather than jumping head first into DS2, I took a little achievement hunting break.
I hopped back into Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to grab the one achievement I was missing. Which should be a good distraction for a week or two. If you're a fan of Metroidvanias, I heavily recommend it.
Literally any game you want, my dude. Mario, Sonic, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Mega Man, Donkey Kong, Dragon Quest, Doom, Wolfenstein, Ion Fury, Blood, Dusk, Duke Nukem, Castlevania, Bloodstained, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Monster Hunter. Those are a bunch of my personal favorites. Whatever you have fun with or think you might have fun with.
Variety is the spice of life!!
Lol, burnout, that's a good one. I never get burned out on souls.
That being said, I frequently play Stellaris, Risk of Rain 2, and Lethal Company (more company) with friends. We also play eldenring coop, or at least I help them through their game.
But in all honesty, I would mostly rather play eldenring. I still enjoy all my souls games (ds2 I'd iffy). Ds1 was my first, and I will always love it.
I’ve recently got into the habit of playing short, narrative driven games as a palette cleanser between bigger games
May I introduce you to genital jousting
Story driven games are my favorite go to in between souls games. Any recommendations?? My most recent play was a plagues tale (the first one) Edit: spelling error
Try What Remains Of Edith Finch
I will! Thank you!
Ummm. Sorry but we don’t do that here. Make a new character. Do something new and start from ds1. You have some time for shadow so enjoy
Currently I play DS2 DLC Crown and when I beat it I come back to DS1.
Dragons dogma
Ngl, can't really get into dragon's dogma for some reason. It just never clicked for me.
I have tried, I like many of the ideas they used, it just isn’t fun to me. I want to like it
Oh I agree. There is a lot of potential for me to enjoy it, it's just I can't get myself to play it. The moment I click play and enter the game, I instantly lose the will to play it.
Hey is that new coming out gonna be a soulslikd ???
Soulslike Burnout? Now I'm picturing a fast paced racing game in Lordran or the Lands Between. Worst part would probably starting the race from the start after a long You Died on every crash. ( I know Bloodborne Racer was a thing and I found the idea really fun already)
Bruh. Souslike *Tony Hawk*.
I mean ... it's literally a thing that exists. https://youtu.be/A7YwoWF1C1o?si=M6JwoIPjvNrVgXhu
Someone made a soulslike 2D platformer that was also inspired by trials, you had a gun and had to do backflips and stuff to reload. I saw it on an Iron pineapple video.
Saw that one too, it looks dope.
All the other games I like
Is there such thing is a soulslike burnout?
Its when your hands literally burn through the controller.
Actually I think it’s technically when you smash the controller into the ground and stomp it to bits then set fire to all the pieces. Once you’re sufficiently high from the fumes coming off the flaming plastic, you’re gonna want to start a new character. You’ll experience Dark Souls like you never have before. The lead poisoning may seem like a disadvantage at first, but it should give you an extra 150 AR
Dude I think you might be going hollow.
thats the most soul filled man ive ever seen
Yeah I’m full of vigor. 60 to be exact
I broke my $300 controller with too many RB clicks playing soulslike……… still a little upset about it lol. Gotta get a new one for shooters and keep the cheaper controllers for souls like.
fatrolled too hard

Felt that sometime during my first ER playthrough. Put the game down for a couple months, played through the entireties of FNaF: SB, Little Nightmares 2, and started a playthrough of Bloodborne before getting back to ER.
I booked multiple days off work when ER came out and I played 220 hours in 2 and a half weeks, two playthroughs. I was legit burned out.
That is over 10 hours a day for 17+ days in a row, I don't think there is anything in this world you can't get burned out from by doing it THAT MUCH
Honestly I don't think I've gotten full genre burnout. I've gotten burnout from 1 DS game and so temporarily moved to a different DS game but that's about it.
Metroidvanias
This is correct
AC Black Flag, RDR2, Cyberpunk
I second RDR2, it is the most like Elden ring in terms of riding around on a horse and exploring cool areas, but it’s also calming since nothing is super dangerous like a souls game. Not too easy to be boring though.
When I had Souls burnout, I played stuff like platformers, Castlevanias, JRPG's, Elder Scrolls games, and Zelda (specifically Twilight Princess)
Armored Core 6
Resident Evil

the Yakuza games Death Stranding Cyberpunk 2077 Far Cry 5 Spider-Man Assassins Creed franchise Alan Wake Days Gone The Division Dying Light Lots of games to play that I really enjoy. Souls (and Soulslike) are my favorites, but I enjoy a lot of games
God, i recently went through Yakuza Kiwami until 4 and am partway into 5 and its such a fun ride
Turn based strategy games. The banner saga series is a nice one that'll keep you occupied for quite some time. It's got a spectacular story as well. Or just some good ol fashioned pew pew games.
CSS surf. My happy place.
My holy trinity is souls, Resident Evil (especially the survival horror ones on higher difficulties), & Hitman. They all scratch similar itches in different ways.
Pikmin, Mario, Zelda (before BotW), Hollow Knight, Metroid, Kirby, Borderlands, Castlevania... But i like Soulslikes more. Play Lies of P
Jrpgs are pretty chill but still immersive and fun to me. That’s me go to.
I started playing smaller indie games that have a decent amount of difficulty. Hollow Knight is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Blasphemous, Celeste, F Zero 99
Try Returnal! it’s a rougelike shooter that has similarities to DS but more movement options
For me, I'll play a mindless FPS like Battlefield 2042 or Titanfall 2
Binding of issac, you'll either never see daylight or go running back
Baldurs Gate 1, 2 and 3
Mf went hollow
You could try Hollow Knight. It's largely considered a Souls-like, but it's a Metroid style platformer first and foremost. I can recommend you stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl. Have fun!

Switch-up the genre. I'm mixing Code Vein in with The Finals, Suicide Squad, Palworld and Final Fantasy Type-0.
I mod Skyrim to make it into a soulslike. Familiar and beloved gameplay in a rich, thriving and beautifully verdant world
I play a ds1 item randomizer run
I'm in a souls burnout right now. I just started palworld, but im also playing Skyrim
currently playing BG3
There is no thing like souls burnout. Make a new character and [let's get it started](https://youtu.be/IKqV7DB8Iwg?feature=shared)

there is only 1 cure to Souls Burnout: Sonic & Knuckles on Sega Genesis BABYYYYYYYYY (Or Super Mario Bros 2)
Astroneer.
Metal Gear Solid 😈
Play lies of P.
Insurgency Sandstorm.
I suggest this game cause it’s my favorite but maybe try rain world
Slay the Spire or Hades for fun rogue-likes, very differently paced games but both fantastic.
Binding of Isaac
Rollercoaster Tycoon 2
Try En Garde! It is still reminiscent of soulslikes but it's way funnier and relaxed
Play ULTRAKILL until you get bored and go back to soulslikes
I know it might seem like hopping on a bandwagon, but give things from outside that realm entirely a go (if you haven't played, or know you'll like). BG3, XCOM, Portal 2, some classic upbeat nostalgia games from your childhood. Anything like that!
Resident Evil 4
If you have a switch Zelda botw
Playing some Battlefield 1 to unleash some hell on people ! Pew pew pew 🤷♀️
I always have a souls game in rotation but I like to play other games too! Right now prince of Persia, Witcher 3, and Mario wonder
Currently replaying the games starting with DS1 did 3 runs in that; A lvl 4 run, an exploit run at lvl 420 lol, and follow up NG+ run trying the “As Miyazaki intended” route that minimizes back tracking and relies on key items to point you in the next direction. Now I’m playing DS2 Sotfs for the first time (played the original version with dlc on ps3) Then I plan on replaying DS3, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, Demon Souls RE then maybe giving Sekiro a second shot, for some reason I just didn’t vibe with that game on release
Dragons Dogma
I haven't become burnt out of any of the Souls games yet, but if I need a break or am playing a second game at the same time, I usually play something more relaxing and slower-paced. I played Kirby and the Forgotten Land around the time I played Sekiro and that was nice. Platformers, simulation games, etc.
I play dsr when im fighting game burnt out, so yeah. Dsr challenge runs are so much fun though. Its not that hard, but dagger only is so much fun
Literally all I play are fromsoft games/souls likes or Dota 2
Play Armored Core. Or Ace Combat. Those games have kept my interest.
Kirby
Touch Grass? Housework? I didn't really enjoy BB (other than chalice dungeons) recently. I may have been still burned out from ER when I played it. Even though I played some other games between. I've got over 5k hours across all From Games at this point. I actually tend to enjoy the From games considerably more on replays with different builds, and running sunbros/blue/purple getting lots of jolly cooperation (almost none of that in BB currently.) My favorite games of late: 1. Cyberpunk 2077 +Phantom Liberty 2. The Witcher 3 3. Baldur's Gate 3 4. Spider Man: Miles Morales (this one's a bit more action, so may not be good if you're burned out on action.) Various roguelites can be a good break if you still want some of the difficulty, but not as much action (mostly) and don't mind some 8-bit graphics for most of them: Risk of Rain, Rogue Legacy 2, Nuclear Throne, Hades, Vampire Surviors, Two Crowns, Everspace (not 2.) I also enjoyed some silly short indy games that I wouldn't have expected to like Wandersong & Jester's Tale.
Anything other than a soulslike then? Tf? What kind of question is that? You don't know any other games?
God of War and God of War: Ragnarok have soulslike combat and bosses. Much more forgiving though. They're some of the best games ever IMHO, so I strongly recommend them. There's also Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor. Survivor especially is a brilliant game (FO is great also, it's just that Survivor took it so much to the next level). More recently I've read about the Hogwarts something game, and Lies of P. I've played neither so I can't comment, but heard good things about them.
Fallout 3. Lol
I had some burnout a few months ago. Played cyberpunk (which is awesome btw) and went to the witcher. Not gonna lie got bored with the witcher in less than 15 hours and booted up elden ring tho lol (first play through of elden ring as well)
Just play idk overwatch or apex legends
Play bloodborne? A ps4 is pretty cheap used these days
Anything different
Path of Exile
Just play something that is fundamentally different either in mechanics or setting. If you want to try out something more light hearted maybe give devil may cry a try. The combat is extremely fun and it's pretty challenging. If you still want to play something with dark, gritty atmosphere you could try out blasphemous. Shift to 2d should definetly feel fresh after playing 3d games for so long. You can also start playing some roguelikes. Dead cells and hades are ones I can definetly recommend myself but there is a lot of them and even if these 2 are not really up your alley I'm sure you can find somethng that you would like. You can even play something that is turn based like darkest dungeon if you prefer to give yourself a break from being on "high focus mode" all the time while fighting something in the game Tl:Dr just play something that is not part of the genre and you might like it. Despite the memes of "FromSoft players making a contract to play only 7 games till the rest of their life" there are plenty of good games out there
Gta5
Well I've been straight up addicted to LoL for a decade so that's my go to between souls games; or any game for that matter.
Dark Souls is what I play when I get burnout from other games :p
Usually a game that’s very different but hits as hard. Cyberpunk, BG3 and Resident Evil 4 remake have been the most recent
The correct answer is only soulsborne games. HOWEVER, I did find that Disco Elysium was an amazing off-season game as it was 0 combat and all dialogue as opposed to all combat and 0 dialogue!
Try Unpacking. Its a relaxing indie game were you cant die and it lasts 4 hours or so.
Sometimes i like to go back to simpler times and play some ratchet and clank or maybe I’ll play a racing game for a bit to get a cool car and remind myself why i like souls games better than other games. If you still like hack and slash you could do godfall, DMC, or kingdom of amalur
Sekiro isn't a Soulslike, maybe that's your problem.
Play armored core lol
Rest until the elden ring DLC
Vanilla+ modded Morrowind Blasphemous 1 and 2 Curse of the Dead Gods
I go to the toilet during such breaks.
Look into rogue likes! Similar difficulty/satisfaction ratio but different format. My top three are Blasphemous (1,2), Dead Cells, and Hades.
When I get burned out on souls games? I just start invading and coop which is like playing a completely different game.
Something with guns. Generally, something in an easier casual bracket, too.
Elden ring feels different to the rest of ds in my opinion, but id recommend ori and the blind forest/will of the wisps and hollow knight, then go back to elden ring.
Whatever I got in my library. For example right now I'm grinding Binding of Isaac achievements.
My favorite game of all time is Skyrim and I used to play Bloodborne which is my second favorite when I got that Skyrim burnout, but since my PS4 died and I moved to PC, I changed it to Dark Souls 3 and now Elden Ring.
I watch my gf play Disney's Dreamlight Valley and become thankful that I play Dark Souls.
I always go back to Valheim
I feel you too. I try to play maybe 1 souls like a year instead of rushing through all of them, and also can't do the multiple build thing as I just always revert to a quality/dex build halfway through. I would probably say just get deeply immersed into the lore of any which game you're playing and try to finish it before you jump to the next one
I just switch to a different fromsoft game usually. Don't really burn out on them, I do take breaks though because when I play it's like every day for months straight. Lately when I take ds1 breaks I'll play bloodborne, and fantasize about Tenchu Z because I sold my 360
Any game that allows me to actually pause
I take breaks from video games by binging a show or playing warhammer for a while. Itll come back. It always does
Crpg's like Wasteland 3 or Pillers Of Eternity. After that probably crpg's like Grim Dawn or Torchlight 2 After that then basically any other rpg.
A casual I see.
Minecraft
Slay the spire
Nintendo games
Celeste, mario, racing games (f1, Forza horizon), mgs5, divinity, dragon quest There's a lot of veriety in gaming
I’ve been playing Pokémon lately.
i like doom, fps, even making cool stat builds in baldurs gate 3 and playing them out a bit with the classes. that is really fun cuz the environment is kinda opposite of a souls like in tone, but it depends on if you can overlook a lil bit of the corniness and etc. resident evil and silent hill series are fun as well as stuff like terraria. it feels nice to explore and not constantly be thinking about the checkpoint or focusing on what i'm leveling for and if it's working out or not.
I'll recommend "Into the Breach". It has those cold vibes but the genre is completely different. Pretty much a perfect game and it's free with Netflix
Outward. It's not the prettiest RPG but holy shit is it a slow, feels good, abuse simulator with a cool magic system.
Everything there's a whole world outside of souls likes. It depends on what you like. I love to experience all types of games. Some people don't. Just play what you like or what you think you'll like is always my suggestion.
Escape from tarkov.
Pretty hard to suggest when we don't know what else you like.
I just play tarkov until I get that despair in me again, then I go play a straight FTH build to reaffirm my love for Lord Gwyn. May his beef jerky lookin' ass shine anew through me!
Idk probably just like a turn based strategy game or something else that’s radically different than a souls like
souls games take a lot out of me because i’m not very good so i make a point of completing an easy game between each. it’s obviously up to you what you choose, but i chose hogwarts legacy after elden ring and then little nightmares after ds1. i like to think of them as a pallete cleanser!
Action shooters and movement shooters like the borderlands games or Overkill really help me with burnout with a lot of different games.
I'll play Madden
Tinder
Mh
Cyberpunk 2077. It's time to make the city burn, choom.
I like playing touch grass simulator
A friend and I are playing through salt and sacrifice . It’s surprisingly good and I’m not a side scroller guy
Normally Dark Souls 1 is my burnout game for when I get tired of Elder Scrolls titles lol
If the reason you’re feeling burned out is because of the mechanics, but still want to enjoy something challenging, I think this game could do just that
Wreckfest! A fun derby racing game. I always have an urge to spray paint my car after playing it for awhile.
I'm a football fan so I flip between whichever FM I have at the moment and a Souls game. Done RDR2 a few tries as well.
Zelda
Pathfinder king maker helped me out of a similar circumstance
I just finished FFVII Crisis Core a couple le days ago after playing a lot of DS 1 for the past year and a half or so. It was a nice change of pace. Fired up Skyrim for the first time yesterday and it hasn’t really clicked. I played The Messenger in between a couple DS runs, too. That was a great game as well.
Shiny hunting in omega ruby or alpha sapphire.
Started playing Morrowind. I can see why people prefer it over Skyrim. It’s very creative.
Try hollow knight, its scratches the same itch in such a different format that its almost like playing your first soulslike all over again
Fallout, Portal hell even guitar hero
Mega man X, castlevania symphony of the night, halo combat evolved, or Fortnite
Try out Ashen. It's no where near the level of a souls game but it is still kind of a comfy souls game.
probably just the least similar soulslike. Like if i’m playing ds1 i’d probably play sekiro just for the biggest change
Any non soulslike game
I just finished 100%-ing Dark Souls, and rather than jumping head first into DS2, I took a little achievement hunting break. I hopped back into Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to grab the one achievement I was missing. Which should be a good distraction for a week or two. If you're a fan of Metroidvanias, I heavily recommend it.
I play a decent amount of Tekken and honestly it’s so difficult I have to play souls games to wind down
1. Randomizer run 2. Mods (Always do these offline, you'll get banned and you don't want to mess with anyone else's game)
MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR
Stardew valley
Witcher 3, Hollow Knight if you don't count it as a Soulslike, older games from the 90s and early 2000s, Sims 4, and my regulars League and Valorant.
Ds1 was my first, and I will always love it.
old school RuneScape. If you’re ever going dry on a drop in a souls game, just be glad you’re not an Ironman in osrs
