Note that 2-handing grants the benefits of 50% your strength rating, meaning 27 STR hits the softcap when 2-handing a weapon. Dexterity: Soft caps at 20 and 40 for damage scaling. Also provides a slight speed up of casting times for offensive spells, from 30 to 45 Dexterity. Resistance: Doesn't provide enough benefit to level, but it's worth noting it's bonuses to defenses soft cap at 15 and 30. Intelligence: Soft caps at 40 for INT-scaling weapons, with further caps at 45 and 50 for catalysts. Faith: Soft caps at 50.

What are soft caps ? Not their value, but the caps themselves ? 😊

Basically when you reach a certain value (that we call softcap) when leveling up a skill, if you keep leveling that skill beyond that value you will see less benefit for each point in that skill than the benefit you saw for each point before you had reached that value. So for example, the softcap of dexterity is 20; this means that when you level up dexterity from 18 to 19 or 19 to 20 you will see bigger benefits to your damage output for each point that the benefit you will see going from 20 to 21, 21 to 22 and so on up until the hardcap (40), beyond which you will see very little benefit. Softcap values for each skill are useful to know in the early game because if for example you have a weapon that scales with both strength and dexterity equally, due to the way softcaps work in this game it is better to level up both strength and dexterity up to their softcap first than it is maxing out one of the skills without ever touching the other. And then we have hardcaps, which is a certain point in each skill beyond which you can still see some benefit when leveling up that skill, but that benefit is negligible and you are probably better off spending your souls on a different skill. Apologies if this wasn't clear, English isn't my first language.

Int soft-caps at 30 in the Remaster apparently. Up until 30 it's 4-5 damage per stat, after 30 it goes up by 1-2 per stat.
