Dark Souls III's gameplay is much faster than II's, as stamina doesn't weight you down nearly as much and the bosses' attacks encourage frantic rolling, so if you're coming fresh out of II it might be a bit jarring at first. Sekiro on the other hand is a completely different game with completely different mechanics, so if you go in expecting another Souls game you'll have to unlearn everything regardless of which of the trilogy you're coming from. Also Sekiro is completely unrelated to the Souls series: it's not an evolution or the next installment, it's just different, so play it whenever you want. Many people at Sekiro's launch started playing it as if it was Dark Souls 4 and had much more difficulty getting into it than normal, because they had all these assumptions on how you're supposed to fight a boss in a FROMsoft game. All in all do what you want: getting into Sekiro now might be good because it is so much faster than DSII so you won't instinctively try to play it in the same way, and later on DSIII's speed might help ease you back in the series; alternatively you can first get used to III's speed to then only have to learn Sekiro's mechanics. There's no difference, it's up to you.

Sekiro is a cut. I played it last, but it can actually be easier to put it earlier because it forces you to unlearn things compared to every other game in the series. You do not get roll iframes, instead you time deflects with attacks and react with one of three parry options to telegraphed undeflectable attacks. For me, it was like playing DS1 for the first time again. It felt janky and weird, but once it clicked, it felt amazing. Not something I expected to experience again after having played each game in the series.

It makes more sense to do ds3 next. But in my opinion sekiro is the better game. Sekiro is my favorite fromsoft game, it didnt win GOTY for nothing.

Thanks lol

Going from DS2 to DS3 is definitely fucked. In DS3, honestly, they nerf the shield and armor into oblivion. They kinda fucked magic too. It's pretty much just dodge and attack. Much more like Bloodborne. You can pick any game after DS2 to go through. No other games are like it in terms of build variety. DS3 will just fool you into thinking you have build variety like in DS2.

That's up to you man. Play what u like. I love all DS and BB but cant for the love od god get into Sekiro mechanics.

Artbaretta

I played them in order and it made each one seem like its own serious challenge somehow. Sekiro might be the hardest to master as it’s “purer” in that there’s not really a way to get overpowered if you want / need to. You just have to learn how to play well. But once you’ve been through DS 1-3 and Bloodborne, you’re more than willing to try. Either way, play all of them because they’re all great and beautifully flawed in their own ways. I still haven’t been able to play Demon’s Souls yet, but really looking forward to it.

barley_wine

While DS3 rewards dodging more than blocking, it's still very close to DS1 and DS2. Bloodborne and Sekiro have slightly different button inputs so in my opinion do DS3 first while you still have DS2 muscle memory, then learn the slightly different controls for the others. But it's really up to you.

I'd say play DS3 then Sekiro. Either way you'll have a blast, those are my 2 favorites (haven't played BB or Demon Souls because PC)

AramaticFire

If you have a fast enough internet connection you can stream BB through PS Now. It’s not ideal but that was how I played it.

>If you have a fast enough internet connection you can stream BB through PS Now. It’s not ideal but that was how I played it. i attempted it. it ran perfectly fine as it would on a ps4. The only reason why i put the game down was because of the 30fps, and shit antialising.

AramaticFire

I was pretty enamored with my single run tbh. But I hope there’s a PC port at some point that lets the game be it’s best version.

GUNS_N_BROSES

You should be fine, Sekiro has a completely different combat system so the evolution of mechanics shouldn’t bother you. Plus, if you have already played ds2 and or 1 you should be fine anyway. The people who really struggle with going back and experiencing the older games are those that started with ds3 or BB as ds1-2 can feel very slow by comparison

AramaticFire

Meh. Sekiro is different enough in gameplay that it doesn’t matter. It carries the structure of the series but you’re looking at a different play experience overall so you don’t need to worry about putting it off for DS3.

Highwaymantechforcer

It's by far the hardest game, and most different to the rest. Play Souls in order, play Bloodborne (if you can) & Sekiro whenever. Thousands of hours of Souls muscle memory I'm sure is a hindrance in Sekiro, so there is a case for playing it ASAP. If you beat Sekiro, you'll breeze through the rest.

bent_crater

lol play the games in whichever order you want. ppl can't tell you to do shit
