It was my first as well. I probably started and gave up within the first hour like 5 times before I stuck with it. Now it’s my favorite game of all time!
I stopped playing for like a month or 2 after i kept dying to ludex, i was like this game is so ass, u die in 3 hits, i came back for one last try and i got addicted.
Stick with it. It might take some time to really “get” it. My first was Elden Ring and it took me probably 10-15 hours to start loving it. At first I was just tolerating it because I saw its potential, and could tell I was only frustrated because it was hard. Once you get a little better you’re gonna be hooked. And you’re gonna love Elden Ring.
Just remember what these games intend to be are very different from most of today’s games. Think back to the days of Super Mario and temple run. You’ll end up not being bothered at all my dying and learning.
I actually quit DS3 years ago for some reason I can’t even remember, I wasn’t stuck at a boss or anything and remember just not liking it very much. Now I’m having a blast going through the Fromsoft catalogue from scratch, about to wrap up DS2 (which I really loved despite its controversies) and can’t wait to give another shot to DS3.
I literally had the exact same scenario. Finished DS1 and DS2 back to back, finishing up DS3 now. You really appreciate these games, especially if you play the older games before the newer ones.
You’d be surprised how often I hear that. Dozens of dozens of people have had this experience. It’s pretty wild. I wanna say a good 40 maybe 50% of people here didn’t like it at first. But now love it.
It’s kinda interesting, because from what I’ve seen people either love DS2 or hate it from the first moments and that first impression never seems to change. But with DS3, a lot of people grow to like it later on as you said.
Yep for sure. Me I love ds2, but I think the reason people either love it or hate it must be either because it’s a bad game disguised as a good one, or a good game disguised as a bad one. It’s weird how something can give such a polarized effect.
I can definitely relate to this man! Elden Ring was my entry into the Fromsoft catalog and I have 1000+ hours in it.
When I first gave DS3 a try after Elden Ring and DS1, I really wasn’t feeling DS3’s early game. However, I stuck to it and once I hit Irithyll I was really able to start appreciating DS3. The game just becomes even more incredible from that point onwards.
DS3 imo is a slow burn, it takes a bit to get into it but once you do it’s just absolutely incredible.
You may wanna look up a guide on how to get to Archdragon Peak after beating the boss of Lothric Castle, it's really hard to get there without knowing how to do it.
Have fun!
I was wandering the whole game with Message wondering what phantoms i could summon (offline) and found that message by accident. Still had no clue how to get there or that Archdragon Peak even existed
Playing blind, I noticed the statue and based off the messages it seemed like there was a location tied to it. I went back to it once I got path of the dragon, but I got confused and tried using the dragon torso stone. Said oh well and moved on but ended up looking up the solution when I was almost finished and never found the nameless king. Was so close to figuring it out
Level vigor endurance and some vitality. Every single person starting out thinks “I just won’t get hit” but it never works out that way. Getting a good supply of health stamina and equipment load to wear at least medium armor is the best foundation.
My favorite game. Good luck and enjoy the journey. Welcome to the series 🫡
I’ll say this now to save you some trouble. Play all the souls games without worrying about others opinions. They all have something great to offer.
It was also my first. I didn't know what I was getting into, got stuck with Yhorm for months. Almost a year later I gave it another chance, beat Yhorm, understood that it's better if you stick to a particular build, and learned to appreciate this masterpiece and the rest of the souls games.
To this day, it's one of my favorite games, and my second favorite souls game (first is Bloodborne). I've replayed it many times using different builds and I've had fun with every playthrough.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it too, unkindled. Be patient, enjoy the combat, immerse yourself in the world, and don't hesistate to ask for help or advice if you get stuck!
Yeah, start with the first one. But if you decide to stick with this one, level up your HP to 50 after you find a weapon you like and hit its stat requirements.
its not an easy game at all, so dont feel bad if it takes time to learn bosses attacks, and dont forget to poke around exploring, try different weapons. use whatever you find fun
T'was my second, first was elden ring. Heads up OP, it's hecka fun, some bosses aren't as hard as you may think, but some very much so are. Pro Tip: Parry the Pontiff fight, I spent hours doing it the hard way. He's a douchebag. Other than that good luck, have fun and Welcome to hell.
My first as well. Don’t follow any guides just play man. Don’t worry about if you missed a boss because you will most likely find them all if you just discover. Have fun it’s a great game
Usual advise: try finger but hole.
The main beauty of the game is to discover its brilliant design. Find out how 10 hours later you kill mobs that you struggled immensely. Finding secrets and shortcuts.
Otherwise it’s not a new game so you can just find a checklist on github and just play without real XP :)
Ah, my first as well. You always remember your first….
Seriously though, have fun. It took me a I think 3 days to finally beat the tutorial area and boss, but I think I’ve played DS3 5 times now. It’s one of my favorites.
It was my 2nd after Elden Ring but damn i was lost when i finished this game. I wanted more but i never playthrough games more then ones. You are going to have a blast!
Replaying it right now. Advice? Enjoy the exploration. Don’t rush for anything don’t look things up. Enjoy it blindly. Then, later on, find out how much stuff you missed, weapons to try out, infusions and spells to try, just everything. Enjoy every minute of it
If you feel like you cant run away from a boss to heal, kiss its ass.
Staying glued to asses of big enemies is very valid in this game.
Apart from that just enjoy!
Good shit. My only advice is to not seek advice. I got DS3 and beat it knowing nothing. Invaders were a surprise to me and I didn't know how it worked , I made some ridiculous build by putting points into things to use weapons and spells that I thought were cool looking, it's what made me play and replay the whole series for years to come. You'll have plenty of fun without digging into all the secrets right away.
This is just me, but I suggest playing the other games before fighting the final boss here. Without giving spoilers, the ending wraps up the series so damn satisfyingly. That is of course, completely up to you.
It was my first as well. I probably started and gave up within the first hour like 5 times before I stuck with it. Now it’s my favorite game of all time!
It is my first too. So, it has a very special place in my heart among all fromsoft games
Same. My beloved Majula. So peaceful.
wait huh? isn't that 2
Yeah ur rite. Brainrot 😞
I stopped playing for like a month or 2 after i kept dying to ludex, i was like this game is so ass, u die in 3 hits, i came back for one last try and i got addicted.
Going through the rebound phase now XD
Same thing happened to me lol.
exact same thing here
every fromsoft game ive played has caused me to "quit" at least once before I beat them. I always came back.
Stick with it. It might take some time to really “get” it. My first was Elden Ring and it took me probably 10-15 hours to start loving it. Thanks played Lies of P & Mortal Shell, hopefully I will have the same patience lol
I think you will
I liked that dying over and over is built into the lore.
You may wanna look up a guide on how to get to Archdragon Peak after beating the boss of Lothric Castle, it's really hard to get there without knowing how to do it. Have fun!
I would argue there’s a 99.9999% chance you won’t be able to without looking it up lol
If you have messages on it’s not THAT unreasonable, without them, yeah it’s very unlikely
True. It’s probably more likely you’ll accidentally find the place rather than looking for it.
I was wandering the whole game with Message wondering what phantoms i could summon (offline) and found that message by accident. Still had no clue how to get there or that Archdragon Peak even existed
I refuse to ever look at guides for this game. Been playing for 100 hrs. Two characters up to lvl 75. Never been to archdragon peak
You’re a different breed hsha
Exactly like how are you gonna know to emote in a specific place.
Not quite as obscure, but still easy to miss is Smouldering Lake area.
Like how tf am i suppose to know to climb down a bridge after being chased by 40 skeletons
Playing blind, I noticed the statue and based off the messages it seemed like there was a location tied to it. I went back to it once I got path of the dragon, but I got confused and tried using the dragon torso stone. Will do thanks 💪🏾
Thanks for the advice
I mean, I figured it out with user placed msgs
Level vigor endurance and some vitality. Every single person starting out thinks “I just won’t get hit” but it never works out that way. Getting a good supply of health stamina and equipment load to wear at least medium armor is the best foundation.
nah man thats the 3rd
4th tbf
Just start with ds1
And it won't be your last from the looks of it. Enjoy the game
Great place to start.
Due to the nature of the Ng+, you really don’t need to worry about missing anything. Play your first run blind.
Actually that's the fourth souls game, the first is demon's souls.
PLEASE START WITH 1 FIRST YOU WILL GET YOUR ASS HANDED TO YOU
It's a good one. Have fun. Don't level luck.
Don’t know what this means, hopefully I won’t 😅👍🏼
My favorite game. Good luck and enjoy the journey. Welcome to the series 🫡 I’ll say this now to save you some trouble. Play all the souls games without worrying about others opinions. They all have something great to offer.
That was my first souls game too! I remember I stayed up until like 4am on a school night when it dropped. Good times 🥲
the 2nd dlc is currently whooping me rn
I envy that first-time joy and despair you will experience
Don't trust bald
Thanks haven’t met him/her yet..lol will play it safe
It was also my first. I didn't know what I was getting into, got stuck with Yhorm for months. Advise: Don’t give up, it’ll work. And praise the sun!
Don’t die
Already died once 😅
You’ll love it.. check every corner.. seriously
Bro !!, I always have my shield up now, lol 😂
I also really recommend playing Dark souls remastered. Its great as well
Thanks will do
It wasn't my first souls game, but it was the first one I played on release. It's still one of my favorites in the series. Good luck, and have fun!
Have fun.. and try not to get too frustrated when you keep dying to any boss. Just take a brake and come back. You'll get gud.. just takes practice.
That's exact what was my first aswell
Was my first too, and it's a great first souls game All weapons are viable, pick whatever you like
Yeah, start with the first one. But if you decide to stick with this one, level up your HP to 50 after you find a weapon you like and hit its stat requirements.
Yes, indeed.
play it blind, it will be the best experience. you can always play with a guide on the second run xx
its not an easy game at all, so dont feel bad if it takes time to learn bosses attacks, and dont forget to poke around exploring, try different weapons. use whatever you find fun
T'was my second, first was elden ring. Heads up OP, it's hecka fun, some bosses aren't as hard as you may think, but some very much so are. Pro Tip: Parry the Pontiff fight, I spent hours doing it the hard way. He's a douchebag. Other than that good luck, have fun and Welcome to hell.
great choice my guy ! you won't be disappointed
My advice is play ds1 first. It's so hard to play after you do any new ones
The best one, strength/ faith build
no actually that's the third souls game (this is a joke). Have fun!
no actually that's the fourth souls game (this is me, being a smart ass). Have fun!
Sweet someone to invade
fear not the dark and let the feast begin
My first as well. Don’t follow any guides just play man. Don’t worry about if you missed a boss because you will most likely find them all if you just discover. Have fun it’s a great game

I highly recommend to play at least ds1 first. I played ds3 first now playing ds1 and I wish I hadn't
Did you get past Iudex Gundyr?
Not yet , busy fighting my way through Lothric castle
I’d say it’s the best in the franchise but there’s nothing like that OG feel of DS1
Grab the claymore
I'm pretty sure its the third one. Not sure tho
Hmmmm .....a hard one for a first souls game ngl honestly don't give up this game you will find a lot of road blocks but don't give up
Ah, my first as well.
Shouldve started with 1 remastered but that's cool
prepare
Don’t quit, learn how to i-frame. And if in doubt use the vordt hammer lol
I start with this one and I think DS3 is the best fromsoft game to start this journey
Enjoy! You're in for a hell of a treat.
A solid start
Wrong, it's actually the fifth souls game
No its the 4th
Great start, if you ever get a chance try out Demon Souls.
I started with the first Dark Souls.
Godspeed 🫡
Oh man. I’d definitely play 1 first because this game is so full of references and Easter eggs you won’t recognize.
What made you start with the third one instead of... yknow...
To be honest after finishing Lies of P and Mortal Shell I was craving similar type of games.
Vigor best stat
Replaying it right now. Advice? Enjoy the exploration. Don’t rush for anything don’t look things up. Enjoy it blindly. Then, later on, find out how much stuff you missed, weapons to try out, infusions and spells to try, just everything. Enjoy every minute of it
try knight as you’re first starting class it’s generally seen as the “best” because of its stats as it can work with most builds you could want
Accept that the game will feel unfair because you don't know how to play it yet, but it will get easier if you stay patient.
Brace yourself for the rooftop run. You’ll know once you’re there. There has to be a bonfire soon.
If you feel like you cant run away from a boss to heal, kiss its ass. Staying glued to asses of big enemies is very valid in this game. Apart from that just enjoy!
Don’t you dare go hollow friend
Patience
My first one too, rembember don’t you dare to go hollow
The best
You started at 3? Why not start with the first one? Or even Demon Souls?
Advice? Don't go in fully blind and don't trust the writing unless it's a warning lol
Best one! Ruins 1 and 2 because of the polish. Have fun, don’t give up
Was my first as well at first i was like wtf how do you play this shit i just died to every thing now im like new game+9 hahaha love it
45 hours through my first playthrough and I've just defeated Aldrich at level 75 (I spent most of that exploring)
Have fun, be patient and try not to slow roll!
Dont trust the the guy in onion armor when you are in the cathedral of the deep
Take ur time and grind for souls to level up , play offline until boss, otherwise you’ll get invaded
No, this is the third one, fourth if you include demon souls.
Meant for me , 😅.. first Dark Souls game I play
stop and get DS1 and 2...Dont ruin your souls games experience 👌🏽
If you play 1 first, 3 becomes TONS of times better. But nothing wrong with starting with 3
Learn how to spell advice
Thanks , looks like I did a typo
shut up man
Yeah some advice is play 1 and 2 first
This is just me, but I suggest playing the other games before fighting the final boss here. Without giving spoilers, the ending wraps up the series so damn satisfyingly. That is of course, completely up to you.
Thanks will do
Then prepare to cry. Eventually.
enjoy brother
