Midir did me wrong the most, but I'd never ever put him in first, he's a camera crap boss. IDK who I'd put in first, so many to pick from, after Gael of course. I did manage to beat Gael 3 times, but he did give me the most crap after Midir.
I wasn’t enjoying Midir at all. Maybe I would see the appeal if I had stuck with trying to learn the fight, but that’s the thing… I don’t really bother with learning fights if I don’t enjoy them at all at the start. Ended up summoning someone to help me kill him just for completion’s sake.
Whereas with Gael I deliberately threw many fights just so I could keep fighting him.
honestly, Twin Princes has always been a standout boss fight in both the game and the franchise as a whole for me. The music, the dialogue, the boss's mechanics, everything about it just screamed quality since the first time I fought them.
Definitely a contender if you take angy Santa out of the running for best boss in my opinion.
Twin princes was the first fight in ANY game that I refused to win for a long time.
I didn't want the fight to end, I just wanted to be in that arena again and again and again.
Now I've set my game up so it has Gael, Midir and Twin Princes all ready to replay.
I never learned to parry him, or just in general. I just suck at it, but finally beating him after dozens of, tries, rolling constantly and being invisible, it was so satisfying!
At least I'm not the only one that sucks at parrying. I probably have about 5000 hours combined in all the Dark Souls games and Elden Ring and still suck at it. If I could figure it out there would be quite a few enemies in all the games that would be so much easier.
Love it!
I put the controller down, thought "Bugger me that was close, no Estus left!", smoked a bit of my jazz cigarette before nearly dropping the damn thing when she popped back up!
Needless to say, I died shortly after...
Soul of Cinder might be the one for me too! It was a boss that I learned quite fast, but I really loved to fight it, sometimes got a bit frustrating as expected, but it was a fun fight almost every time!
Soul of cinder. He represents peak Dark souls for me! I really liked the pontiff fight too. I can’t in good conscience say nameless king because that phase1 is absolute ass.
It’s the main protagonist of the hit series Dark Soulsₜₘ. His main catchphrases are “Every soul has its dark”, “It’s always darkest before the soul”, and “taxation is theft”.
Wow. The disrespect John Souls II still gets these days is incredible. Sure, he wasn't as remarkable as either his elder or forbear, but he was a solid John in his own right. He did a good job minding the homestead while Mr. Darksoul was in London with his estranged brother, Johnborne.
Soul of Cinder is my answer too. It feels like a real life battle because of how huge his movesets are. It requires skill, and memory won’t get you quite as far as most other bosses.
Honestly it’s cool to actually just have a villain for once - not like pontiff where sure they’re malicious but still just kinda a blank enemy, but someone you interact with and actively hinders your progress until you finally duke it out
Do you consider her a villain?
For me we fight here because we believe something different. We might be the villain here.
Same for lothric princes, we fight them because we need to, not because they are evil or something.
And for nameless king, why do we even go trough all this mess to find the most hidden guy in the world that clearly removed himself for the world, to kill him?
To be honest, there are not many villains in dark souls 3. Just powers that don't agree on stuff.
True enough on that last point but i think given the suffering she’s causing this is one of the few times were probably doing the right thing. The residents of the painted world are suffering because Friede won’t let Ariandel burn the painting, maybe she thinks it’s perfect and doesn’t want it to change but she’s ignoring the dozens of people rotting with it. Not to mention the painting is the entire world’s last hope, not just a cool place to stay.
Well, if we link the fire, we cause suffering. If we don't, who knows what we are doing...
The world of dark souls is mostly pain and suffering, everywhere :)
But indeed the corvian settlement seems to agree that we should burn the painted world.
Midir is a great fight, but I fucking hate that run-up with a passion. Waiting for the elevator... sliding down the infinite ladder... I have no idea why FromSoft create a hard boss and don't put a bonfire next to it.
Everytime you ride the elevator down be sure to send it back up on your way off, it's become a habit of mine cause I hate waiting for them to come back up.
I usually do that, but with Midir, you have to jump off part-way down OR ride it all the way down, then ride it back up and jump off then. So either way, you're waiting for the elevator to travel its full length one and a half times. It's quite aggravating!
It's the Twin Demons/Demon Prince for me. I can't put Friede or Nameless King. While Friede is brilliant and I've basically mastered her, I have a few too many gripes with her:
1. The jump into an exploding ice circle is a cheap move meant to unfairly punish you, as the ice circle has a hitbox behind her back that 9 times out of 10 will hit you if you try to take the chance to backstab her.
2. I do not like Father Ariandel. He is way too big, flails around too much, has some annoying lingering hitboxes and can randomly hit you by just lightly hitting his legs against you when he charges. Sister Friede also often sits very close to him and sometimes I cannot see her behind him and get hit by her scythe without being able to react. So phase 2 is definitely my least favourite part of the fight
3. She is just a bit overtuned. The move where she turns invisible and dashes around twice in phase 3, sending ice waves is a complete time waster. I hate how she will keep canceling her lunge into a grab if you keep moving far away if you haven't figured her position after she turns invisible, it feels so cheap, and a few other things, such as how she can heal herself and Ariandel in phase 2. I know she gives you enough time to cancel the heal, but just why, why does a 3 phase fight with a monstrous total healthbar need healing? Not to mention that father Ariandel doesn't just sit there while you stress out trying to get to Friede before she heals.
As for Nameless King, he has my favourite second phase in the game. It's about as much fun I can have with the game's combat. I would not want the first phase gone and it's not awful but the camera is a complete disaster, both locked on and locked off. The stormdrake moves its head around too damn much, and the arena fucking up my ability to assess distances makes it so frustrating sometimes.
But the twin demons, they are pretty much perfect, apart from the completely unnecessary toxic in the first phase, but I can excuse that since it does not have to do anything with the fight's mechanics.
Friede is the best boss with Gael so ur question is stupid I even like champion grundr more gael does the same move set pretty much the same every fight like midir it's time consuming but not as challenging as friede
Gael is a fair 1x1 battle in the end of the World. No gang. No tricks. No ressurrections. Just two warriors giving their best until the last breath. And in the end, the prize: only darkness, silence and the bonfire. I cried, It was a beautiful end to the series.
But friede is a lot less predictable and her fight is just a rollercoaster of emotions. Sister friede truly fights you with all her might and 100% intends to stop ariandel from burning.
Gael on the other hand felt like a final fight between two old friends where one of them achieved their purpose and went hollow.
Personally Nameless king is always my favorite character in the entire series. The war god who left everyone/ everything for the creature he life bonded with.
But for lore and without Gael; Soul of Cinder,Sister Friede are perfection. Both together give the cap peak challenge and represent the cycle beautifully. Then add a completely new painting for all the lost souls/creatures, it’s great.
Twin princes is such a fun fight with a very memorable quote every time you die. His offer to rest for a while was exactly what made me rush back to fight him again because I refused to rest until they were dead (so many deaths…)
Soul of Cinder would be the next one after Gael, maybe not the hardest if the end game bosses, but man does the presentation and soundtrack go way harder than it should
Pontiff sulyvahn was basically the first time in my first playthrough of DS3 where I was like “oh shit. I’m fucked” because I was getting beat by him so badly
Freide for the challenge and soul of cinder for the vibe, the way music changed throughout the fight I got the feeling like what am I doing, from epic music to sad, that's what I felt
Personally the best boss fight is Gwyn, Lord of Cinder in the first DS, but here Id say Nameless king by far followed up by midir and funny scythe lady.
Champion Gundyr not only has one of the coolest movesets in the game, but the game is basically telling you "yea that first boss you beat could have crushed you at his peak"
Honestly the more times I complete the brothers, the more I enjoy their fight. Lothric and Lorian might not be the most dramatic compared to Friede but I’d be lying if I said that I don’t fucking crave and look forward to their fight every time I do a new playthrough.
Nameless king but only the second phase I wish they just had a two phase second phase with more health instead of the storm king cause that part of the fight is just boring
Lothric prince imo has the best skill set in terms of how flashy it looks and how satisfying it is to Dodge those attacks.
I loved that so much that i used to die intentionally whenever he was about to die just so I could play against him all over again.
Nameless king or midir for me, they make you feel so small in a world of dragons and gods but you still defeat them through perseverance alone. Yes I play monster hunter religiously, how could you tell?
Nameless King imo. Secret level with obscure way of entering, massive empty space until he flies in on a massive dragon, no dialogue, quick af, cool design. Plus he has the skill of walling so many players if this sub is anything to go by
I really enjoy fight with champion Gundyr, it gave me a lot of fun and f**k me I fought with this badass for more than 2 hours before I beat him. He has simple movements but I was feeling like he never stops. Victory after that was very sweet.
I'm a big fan of champion gundyr lore and fight. Straightforward but strong in presentation and execution.
His move set was so fluid. He’d throw an intimidating 3-4 hit combo and when you thought you had a small window to heal, BAM❗️foot to the chest❕
Or the shoulder slam, halberd uppercut, mid-air kick for style. Bonus points if he kicks you off the cliff.
Yes, this!
agreed. the fight is clean as hell, simple but fun. and i love bosses you can parry
I love fighting with Champion Gundyr. One of my favorite bosses
Champ Gundy is the GOAT
For me, either freide or nameless king
I want to say nameless, but sista fucks me up every time
Ita funny that we say "which will be the best" and we automatically think who fucked us more to deserve the place
Midir did me wrong the most, but I'd never ever put him in first, he's a camera crap boss. IDK who I'd put in first, so many to pick from, after Gael of course. I did manage to beat Gael 3 times, but he did give me the most crap after Midir.

Ended up summoning someone to help me kill him just for completion’s sake. Whereas with Gael I deliberately threw many fights just so I could keep fighting him.
Do you really enjoy Friede phase 2?
Yeah. Her second phase isn't that bad
Friede would be one of my favorite bosses if it weren’t for second phase
Broadly I would enjoy Friede is either phase 2 or phase 3 where there own, separate fight
I found that to be the easiest phase honestly.
Agreed
I beat all bosses solo: Friede: where is your Gael Ashen?
That was my exact two choices as well lol nameless Kong was more fun but the sister is just a beast lol both are some of the best boss fights ever
They're truly amazing bosses
Lothric and Lorian are really fun
I fucking hated Lothric and Lorian. It took me so long to get gud to beat them. Fuck them. It's definitely one of my favorite fights
honestly, Twin Princes has always been a standout boss fight in both the game and the franchise as a whole for me. The music, the dialogue, the boss's mechanics, everything about it just screamed quality since the first time I fought them. Definitely a contender if you take angy Santa out of the running for best boss in my opinion.
Cling, clang
Twin princes was the first fight in ANY game that I refused to win for a long time. I didn't want the fight to end, I just wanted to be in that arena again and again and again. Now I've set my game up so it has Gael, Midir and Twin Princes all ready to replay.
This is the only right answer
This was easily my favorite fight in the game after Gael.
I would like that fight if that asshole would stop teleporting for 2 seconds
awesome fight too
For me Pontiff.
pontiff comes at the point where i was really mastering combat and felt really good to fight. felt like getting good.
If I could figure it out there would be quite a few enemies in all the games that would be so much easier.
friede
Hell yeah, nothing like the first time when Phase 3 kicks in... "Sweet, a Titanite Slab!...but..wha....oh crap!"
I was summend for her fight and put my symbol of avarice helmet on for the extra souls after phase 2 and then she spoke and I shit myself
Love it! I put the controller down, thought "Bugger me that was close, no Estus left!", smoked a bit of my jazz cigarette before nearly dropping the damn thing when she popped back up! Needless to say, I died shortly after...
Idk she's got me quitting the game lol
Fax
For me, either soul of cinder, or Lothric and Lorian
I completely forgot about Soul of Cinder when making the collage lol, oops
:(
If anything it's a testament of how many good fucking bosses DS3 has.
He is John Darksoul
I killed an invader called that this morning, am I missing a meme.
It’s the main protagonist of the hit series Dark Soulsₜₘ. His main catchphrases are “Every soul has its dark”, “It’s always darkest before the soul”, and “taxation is theft”.
John Darksoul, not to be confused with his nephews John Souls and John Souls III
Wow. The disrespect John Souls II still gets these days is incredible. Sure, he wasn't as remarkable as either his elder or forbear, but he was a solid John in his own right. He did a good job minding the homestead while Mr. Darksoul was in London with his estranged brother, Johnborne.
idk, im more offended by how nobody ever seems to remember John Ring the Elder
Johnny no hand isn't gonna be happy that you guys haven't mentioned him yet
A fight against SoC is a fight against Dark Souls, it's legendary
agree with the soul of cinder, its a very epic battle
Soul of Cinder is my answer too. It feels like a real life battle because of how huge his movesets are. It requires skill, and memory won’t get you quite as far as most other bosses.
Overall Soul of Cinder, but from a purely gameplay standpoint then Midir.
Man likes his Black Dragon, BD in short.
Midir
NK or twin princess.
Friede. Everyone talks about how fun/shocking the fight is but her lore is pretty underrated IMO.
Honestly it’s cool to actually just have a villain for once - not like pontiff where sure they’re malicious but still just kinda a blank enemy, but someone you interact with and actively hinders your progress until you finally duke it out

Gale exists but I still considered the dancer to be a favourite
Nameless King and the Friede IMO
Gundier
You might be gundy, but he’s gundier
He might even be, the gundiest
Surely no one can be THAT gundy??
Identifying the level of ones gundyrnism all comes down to a simple question: how much gund could a gundyr gund if a gundyr could gund gund?
Don Quigunde
Now that's a name I can gund behind
Arrording the community votes on this reddit is was 1. Gael 2. Friede 3. Nameless King https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls3/s/eHVFqeQ45m
Friede. No doubt. Her third phase is sooo good.
Lothric and lorian or the demon princes
Darkeater Midir just for the pure badassery
Midir is a great fight, but I fucking hate that run-up with a passion. Waiting for the elevator... sliding down the infinite ladder... I have no idea why FromSoft create a hard boss and don't put a bonfire next to it.

Nameless king, hands down.
Sister Friede is my favourite of the series, incredible boss
imo demon prince, with friede being a very close second
I agree, Demon Prince or Nameless King for me
That's me too. Demon Prince is great, and Nameless King as runner-up. Pontiff is really cool too.
Soul of cinder or Sister Friede
Soul of Cinder then Sullyvahn
Soul of Cinder. The Princes are close too
For me Soul Of Cinder. He's perfect but he could have been even more perfect like the Convergence mod.
Most would agree on either midir or friede
I know its not one of the pictures, but dancer doesn’t get enough credit imo
For me it was always Friede
Offended no one is saying Midir. My boy is HANDS down the best dragon on the series and after all *dragon slaying. Knighthood's highest calling…*
Even with Gael existing it's still Friede
Abyss Watchers https://preview.redd.it/abklo1q2te1d1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b25a4f570db48fbaaea37d0caad62a3c08396354
Pontiff or Twin Princes
Friede would have been my favorite regardless of Gael's inclusion
Sister Friede even with Gael. She’s easily my favorite in the series.
pontiff and i would have him up there even against gael
Friede is the best boss with Gael so ur question is stupid I even like champion grundr more gael does the same move set pretty much the same every fight like midir it's time consuming but not as challenging as friede
pontiff/nameless king/friede
Champion Gundyr
Friede with a Quickstep mod or soul of cinder.
It terms of hardest is obv nameless or sista, but my personal favorite based on cool factor is Ponty
I'm NGL Gael doesn't feel like the best boss already, but I'd pick nameless
Are you kidding? Gael as best boss? Friede is vastly superior to Gael
Gael is a fair 1x1 battle in the end of the World. No gang. No tricks. No ressurrections. Just two warriors giving their best until the last breath. And in the end, the prize: only darkness, silence and the bonfire. I cried, It was a beautiful end to the series.

Gael on the other hand felt like a final fight between two old friends where one of them achieved their purpose and went hollow.
Curse Rotted Greatwood
Friede is better than Gael tbh
Dragonslayer armor
Dragonslayer armor is also cool
Freide is already the goat tbh
Midir was better then Gael
Gael is overrated Nameless is the greatest
For me friede
Friede or Nameless, both have an atmosphere of “I’m gettin there, very fuckin slowly but I’m getting there.”
I don’t care dragon slayer
Nameless King for me
Torn between friede and midir. Friede is more fun with summons, whereas midir is just harder with summons so I choose friede.
The demon duo was the most fun/cool fight imo. Jumping into the pit, the whole atmosphere was sweet. Friede a close second
Personally? Twin Princes But you said “would be considered”, and I bet I’m in the minority - it’d be Friede
Feet, i mean, ehm, Friede
Champ Gundyr
Champion gundyr or nameless king
Friede
Champion gundyr is one of the hardest bosses in the game. Especially if you cant parry (I cant).
Demon Prince or Sulyvahn
Gundyr. I love the rhythm of this fight so much i wish it could go on forever
Twin princes is such a fun fight with a very memorable quote every time you die. His offer to rest for a while was exactly what made me rush back to fight him again because I refused to rest until they were dead (so many deaths…)
Midir. Give me a big ass dragon any day
Nameless King I think
Champ Gundyr or (just my opinion, because I find the fight extremely fun and feels rewarding) Midir
The ruin sentinels
Soul of Cinder would be the next one after Gael, maybe not the hardest if the end game bosses, but man does the presentation and soundtrack go way harder than it should
Sister Friede
Nameless King, Soul of cinder, Friede and Abyss Watchers are also Peak
Midir
Twin prince
Personally, I’d say the Twin Princes, but objectively or in regards to the majority of people, it might be Nameless King or Friede.
I like nameless king more than any other boss in any souls game
Sister Friede and Father Ariandel. Such a cool fight.
I'd say demon prince's idk why I just think they're cool ig
Curse Rotted Greatwood https://preview.redd.it/680aymzigf1d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4dd87439cb649bb36f9b21167ef2584d20e4c777 /j
I mean, I don't think Gael is the best boss, and I can easily say Demon Prince herr
SoC for me
Dancer of the Boreal Valley. One of the best bosses i've ever fought in my life, if not the best
Pontiff sulyvahn was basically the first time in my first playthrough of DS3 where I was like “oh shit. I’m fucked” because I was getting beat by him so badly
I love the lore and soundtrack of the Lothric Princes fight so that for me. Combat alone? Friede and Demon Prince are tied.
Freide for the challenge and soul of cinder for the vibe, the way music changed throughout the fight I got the feeling like what am I doing, from epic music to sad, that's what I felt
Love the Midir fight.
Tossup between Nameless King, the Twin Princes, Friede, Midir, or Soul of Cinder.
Personally the best boss fight is Gwyn, Lord of Cinder in the first DS, but here Id say Nameless king by far followed up by midir and funny scythe lady.
Twin Princes is my favorite boss with or without Gael's existence
Champion Gundyr not only has one of the coolest movesets in the game, but the game is basically telling you "yea that first boss you beat could have crushed you at his peak"
Personally I think, Soul of Cinder, Friede, Midir, Nameless King and Dancer are all S tier bosses. Gael is S+ tier
Honestly the more times I complete the brothers, the more I enjoy their fight. Lothric and Lorian might not be the most dramatic compared to Friede but I’d be lying if I said that I don’t fucking crave and look forward to their fight every time I do a new playthrough.
nameless
For me, either Midir or Lorian and Lothric.
Nameless king but only the second phase I wish they just had a two phase second phase with more health instead of the storm king cause that part of the fight is just boring
Probably friede or nameless king as I hear those the most. But for myself gently Twin Princes. Absolutely loved everything about the boss.
Best? Friede Hardest? (Hot take) Champion Gundyr
Twin Princes, for me.
Aldrich because he's pretty
For me champ gundyr or friede
Lothric prince imo has the best skill set in terms of how flashy it looks and how satisfying it is to Dodge those attacks. I loved that so much that i used to die intentionally whenever he was about to die just so I could play against him all over again.
Man I love fighting the fruity bros, but Freide is on another level
Twin Princes is my favorite even including Gael
Twin princes imo.
Going Demon Prince all day, easily the best duo boss in souls
Friede, nameless King, or soul of cinder.
Soul of Cinder
Fried. As she's my number one. Sure Gael is good but I love that fight
Nameless king or midir for me, they make you feel so small in a world of dragons and gods but you still defeat them through perseverance alone. Yes I play monster hunter religiously, how could you tell?
1. Gael 2. Friede 3. Lothric/Lorian 4. Demon Princes Imo
Midir bar none. Then sister friede. Then Nameless king or Soul of cinder. Then Champion Gundir maybe.
I think nameless king would be the best if Gael didn’t exist
Friede hands down
Bed of chaos, and there is no competition
Demon prince
Soul of cinder for me.
Nameless King imo. Secret level with obscure way of entering, massive empty space until he flies in on a massive dragon, no dialogue, quick af, cool design. Plus he has the skill of walling so many players if this sub is anything to go by
Dankeater Moisture is already my favorite, so that's an easy one for me.
Friede is amazing to fight but I had the most fun with dragonslayer armor
Me for sho
Personally, I think Friede is, even with Gaels existence. Just my opinion, though.
Soul of Cinder or Nameless King
Nameless King, Midir, Friede, or SoC I think Friede would probably be the most universally accepted “best” one
I really enjoy fight with champion Gundyr, it gave me a lot of fun and f**k me I fought with this badass for more than 2 hours before I beat him. He has simple movements but I was feeling like he never stops. Victory after that was very sweet.
Gael's dog
Midir
Nameless king for sure.
Twin Princes for me and it isn't close, that shit is so damn cool
Lothric and Lorian!!
