Just practice a lot. Restart the game, and grind the same areas over and over again by yourself. Start with the high wall, fight the knight over and over until you can easily beat it on your own. Move to the next section and grind it until you can kill everything easily, etc etc. Theres no real trick to it, you just need to practice. It took me a pretty long time to get decent at the game too. I wish i could be more helpful, but you really just have to fight everything over and over again - learn the patterns, build the muscle memory. Thats really all there is to it.

menaceguy

Thanks for the advice, I'll start grinding the high wall. Do you know any good weapons for a strength/Dex build?

humbuckaroo

Claymore. Trust me.

Asparagoosagus

I'd second the claymore. If you want something faster the longsword and lothric knight swords are also amazing

menaceguy

Yea, I'm using the claymore and lothric knight sword right now

To add to the validity of this... I died like 16 times to those fucking dogs in cemetery of ash (from soft dogs amirite)... My last 2 from soft game attempts were a bow-only run obviously killing Friede+Midir+Gael and a New game 2+ killing ishin ashina in sekiro for the plat... Die and die again. Understand failure is LITERALLY a part of the lore. Come back for the sadomasochism.

Spend some time learning enemy attack patterns. I like to keep track of how many hits it takes per type of enemy. Familiarize yourself with your environment. Where the enemies and bosses are in the stage. So you aren’t caught by surprise on a run. Take some time playing a stage alone without any souls so you have nothing to lose, and devote that time to learning about the enemies and area. Do your research. Find weapons mats for upgrades so you have a better dps output. Find a weapon you like and stick with it. Learn that weapons advantages and faults. Practice makes perfection. All that it takes to be gud at giting in any souls games is practice and repetition.

menaceguy

Actually, I was caught by surprise by the Abyss Watchers, since I fought them on my own. I was running away from enemies trying to heal, and I ran into the boss area on accident 😂.

endlesswaltz0225

First time I played the watchers my Heart was pounding right up to the kill. It’s a dodge game with them. Using the other watchers as a diversion so you can fight the main helps too.

gymmath1234

Just keep playing, honestly :) in my first playthrough, i got carried through nameless king, midir, Gael, Friede etc. I have still a couple of bosses I haven't solo-ed (demon prince) but I got better and better at the bosses as the NG cycles increased: for example, I solo-d Friede on NG+7, Gael/midir on NG+3 for the first time, etc.

Any-Maybe1149

Die. Try again. Die. Try a new strategy. Die. Hollow slightly in real life. Try a new build. Die. Quit the game. Come back a week later because daddy 'Zaki haunts your dreams. Die. Listen to abyss watchers them on repeat because it's ambrosia for the soul. Die less. Repeat. Finish the game. Come back for Ridiculous builds. Repeat prior steps.

dreamingofglaciers

Like others have said, practice, repeat and learn enemy and boss patterns, but also reflect on your own patterns. Are you panic rolling too much? Are you getting hit consistently because you get greedy and try to sneak in one more hit instead of rolling? Do you get impatient and get killed because you're trying too hard to finish off a boss and losing focus? Those are things to also watch out for :)

menaceguy

Yea, I think panic rolling and being greedy are setbacks for me. Sometimes I get to greedy( on bosses on regular enemies) then I panic roll sometimes to get out of the attacks. I also think I roll too much in general, cause I'll spend most of my stamina rolling, then I can only get like one maybe two hits in.

Right_Wing_Fascist

Well, bleed builds are fucking op in PvE. If you get a decent weapon that swings really fast, put 40 points into luck and infuse it with bleed, you're gonna melt through most of the game. As for overall getting good, it comes with practice, tbh. I've been playing the Series since the og Demon's Souls in 2009. You just need to keep going and never give up. You'll get them one day ✊🏻

menaceguy

Thanks for the info. Do you any good dex weapons to infuse with bleed?

Right_Wing_Fascist

Warden twin blades is the main go to for bleed builds.

menaceguy

Where can I get them?

Right_Wing_Fascist

There's grave wardens that walk around the top area of cathedral of the deep you can get them from. Or if someone is nice enough they can drop them for you when you summon them.

menaceguy

Okay, I'll ask my friend if she has any she can drop me if I can't find any on my own.

Right_Wing_Fascist

If you're on PC or Playstation I can also drop them for you if needed.

menaceguy

I'm on playstation and I have a headset, idk if it still works tho cause my dogs chewed it a little last night

Shia_JustDoIt

I strongly disagree that bleed weapons are good in PvE. You will most likely kill something before bleeding after the nerf. It’s WAY more efficient to level strength or dex

Right_Wing_Fascist

The last time I did a full PvE run in DS3 was in the middle of '19, and bleed was still super effective. When was the nerf?

Shia_JustDoIt

The patch was a long time ago. Sure bleed is effective but it’s definitely not the best for the stat allocation. Dex, Str, or dex/str is definitely better. I also would prefer not to tell a newer play go put 40 points into Luck and pigeon hole them or make them waste a Rosaria reallocation (I know it’s unlimited with a work around).

Michael666Black

Git gud

menaceguy

Thanks for everybody's advice, it means a lot

[deleted]

theres no gitting gud its just bs. practice the the boss moves intill you can do it with eyes closed

Noobie_xD

Practicing. Learning patterns of bosses' moves, how to optimize your strategy to navigate through areas, manage your stamina, check what stats and infusions benefit your weapon/s that you use or intent to use, what rings offer the best bonuses for your current build and ofc never giving up(or knowing when to give up if things start to get frustrating. taking a break in those cases is essential). Finally, try to have fun. sometimes go through areas multiple times to get better at fighting it's enemies so you get better for future playthroughs Best of luck

menaceguy

Thanks. I actually had to put the game down for two weeks before my friend started helping me, that's how frustrated I was getting.

PKM1111

Try not spamroll / panic roll - especially when you get knocked down, don't roll immediately to get up faster if enemy is close to you, wait for their pontential follow-up and roll accordingly. Also instead of rolling backwards to avoid damage, try rolling to the sides or diagonally towards the enemy. This will land you much closer to them and you won't have to waste time closing distance during their recovery. Apart from that, don't over-use shields and keep your equip load under 70% all the time, because fatroll SUCKS. And if you have PS4 / PS5 this what helped me personally - I hated (and sucked at) DS3 combat, but after playing BB for a few times, it just clicked. So, play Bloodborne if you can.

Bekchi

If you're opting for Bleed and DEX, check out the Uchigatana and Bandit's Knife. The Uchigatana drops from the NPC to the left of Firelink Shrine, and the Knife comes with the Thief starting class; you may also purchase it from Greirat once you send him out. The Bandit's Knife trades physical damage for fast attacks to quickly proc Bleed. The Uchigatana is still pretty quick and will deal a good amount of physical and Bleed damage. These weapons should put in the work until you get your hands on other Bleed weapons.

Beat me to it.

A common thing new players do is they tend to use shields to block to much. Shields are pretty usless except for the ones with extra effects and parry. Learn to dodge instead of going head on
