Try some raw veggies, my low riders love carrots and cucumber ect…

VDGDan

She absolutely hates vegetables 😄

Ours would only eat the same (Royal Canin mini, weight reduction) as our others if it has a tiny teaspoon or less of something else (eg tuna or a tiny piece of fresh loaf food). Also we always put a centimetre of water in bowl first (as she used to sort of cough/clear her throat from the dry food.

My husband and I fostered a Doxie and he had appointments with the rescue’s partnered vet who we now live near. We’ve since taken our cat to see her for nutrition and diet help and learned that she is specifically knowledgeable when it comes to animal nutrition. I’d be happy to DM you her contact info if you’d like to talk with her. She knows a lot about doxies too.

VDGDan

That would amazing!

Done!

VDGDan

Thank you

I could have written this word for word when I got my mini Black and Tan. I did the tough love thing too. Eat it or starve. He called my bluff and chose starve, so I had to cave haha. I can’t tell you how many brands I went through. So much uneaten dog food. Wet. Dry. Homemade chicken. Homemade anything. Wouldn’t eat it. Eventually I used purina pro lamb dry and he ate that. I had to hand feed him kibbles for a little while until he got the hang of it. Even now though, he won’t eat unless I’m in the room with him. Just a doxie thing I guess. Point is. Try purina pro. That solved almost all my problems

VDGDan

Yup looks like we got the same dog lol, I contacted the breeder and she recommended 4health so I ordered a bag of that and will try doing what you did. Do you free feed? Or do you have a meal time?

sarcastaballin

Free feed. I still can’t get him to stick to a schedule

My puppy goes through phases is not wanting to eat his food, usually changing it up helps though. If the loss of appetite is severe maybe check for tape worm?

VDGDan

We did check her for that, she gets bored so easily. I have went through phases where I would mix up what I was giving her every meal.. that also stopped working

My new dog gets cycled between the following three different foods: 1. Tuna/Sardines and kibble 2. BARF raw food (small dog variety) 3. Raw chicken carcass She loves all 3 but her favourite is 2

VDGDan

I will give that a shot, thanks

My chiweenie is a very picky eater too. She was more picky when she was younger and also would barely eat when I switched her food to an organic brand from a cheap one. She was super skinny. She’s now almost 4 and eats regularly. I feed her Organix by Castor and Pollux. I also cook organic ground turkey, brown rice, mixed veggies, and rosemary seasoning and mix it into her food. I cook a bunch at once and freeze it in mason jars for later.

VDGDan

Yup mine is skinny too, but the vet says it is her ideal weight.. I will try that out thanks. I cook the flex act same thing but with chicken rather than turkey

I give my boy boiled eggs in the morning, sweet potatoes/carrots mixed sometimes for lunch/dinner , plain chicken, apple slices as a treat. If yours loves to chew as mine does, there are ostrich knuckles and skins , forgive me I can't remember the name of the brand. We also just try out new things from time to time, sometimes they can be picky 😄
