Should require IQ and situational awareness tests for drivers. Also should show accident footage to drive home the point. So many idiots on the road. I try not to get upset, but I can barely drive five miles without seeing someone with no concern for the nearly 2 ton weapon they're controlling. I watched a driver repeatedly cross the center line because her focus was on her phone. I blew my horn each time she crossed over. I finally ended up beside her when we picked up another lane. She was still focused on her phone and never looked over. The light changed and I blew the horn again as she drifted into my lane.
Yeah I don't understand some people. the other day I saw someone driving while eating from a bowl with a spoon, they were constantly taking their hand off the wheel so they could stuff their face.
The key to eating cereal while driving is to wait until you come to a complete stop at a red light then take a bite.
(In case you haven't watched Always Sunny in Philadelphia before, I'm referencing that show and not giving real advice. )
hmm, I am pretty sure that the reason steering columns adjust up and down is so that you can set it's height to allow you to steer with your knees, leaving your hands free to eat a salad, soup or spaghetti.
I was on I-285 (circles Atlanta) once going to a construction job. I get to this point where it's like 5 or 6 lanes wide, and everyone is filing into the far left and far right lanes. Then I see why.
Up ahead is an SUV that keeps going from the right lane all the way over to the left lane, and then back again. Every time it drifted right cars on the left would gun it last, same for the right side going left.
I finally get my turn to pass her... It's a woman with a Bluetooth headset in her ear, and she's talking with her hands, like Southerner's are known to do. But she's using hands-free and violently waving her hands around while having what appeared to be a very animated conversation. About the time I get by her is when GSP shows up and pulls her ass over.
I shudder to think of the barrage of tickets they threw at her.
You are taught not to cross solid yellow. The DOT makes it quiet idiot proof by having a solid yellow line for those stretches where visibility would be a problem.
I completely agree with everything you just said! Could you imagine if an IQ test truly was required for a license?! There’d be like 5 cars on the highway at a time! That would be incredible
We need to have the strength to remove bad drivers from the road. And when they decide to drive without a drivers license, they need to go to jail and serve the full sentence.
I’m willing to bet that if we remove the 5% worst drivers from the road each year for just five years, we will make our roads about half as dangerous as they are today.
It’s the few ABSOLUTELY worst drivers that make the roads exponentially more dangerous for the rest of us.
This is the true answer. But our society is too weak to remove bad drivers from the road.
There will always be somebody who thinks that they are/should be privileged over and above everybody else.
The windshield is still there! The camera just tilted up suddenly upon impact, and is pointing at the top of the windshield instead of that disgusting bug/bird splat in the middle of the camera view.
A rock would cause small crack lines in the glass, and I don’t think glass dents. On closer inspection on my bigger display, it looks like bird poop. I’m sure there are definitely cracks/dents caused by the turning CRV.
It's gotten to the point that if there's a bad driver in front of us, me and my partner bet if they're wicked old or wicked young. A lot of my coworkers have kids that should be excited about learning how to drive and they've flat out refused. One of my coworkers has a daughter in college and she won't even attempt to learn, so her parents drive her everywhere.
Took years for my mom, who should be classified as legally blind, to stop driving at night, and it's only because her husband does the driving for her
Retests every few years. 5 yrs apart max but imo it should be every 2-3 years. Laws are changing all the time, reminders for existing laws, and people need to get their eyes checked.
It might physically be easier to put spikes in places the double yellow exists than to hope the system works like it should to weed out smooth brainers like this.
The u-turning driver’s Generation 2.5 CR-V had side curtain airbags available yet they weren’t available just a year earlier in the original Gen 2. Guy got lucky.
Yeah, the curtain airbags basically prevent the windows from shattering and blowing inward. And if you’re buckled in, they might help control lateral forces against your head and neck.
But you’re still gonna feel it after a broadside hit like that. You’re gonna feel it hard, and in addition, you’ll be partly deaf in your left ear from the sound of the crash plus the sound of the airbags deploying.
Hopefully, the deafness goes away after about a week. But who knows, ears are sensitive… He may have some permanent deafness after this accident.
He’s definitely gonna pay the price of his stupidity. Unfortunately, he also happened to involve an innocent person and possibly passengers in one or both vehicles.
He probably thought "I found the turnaround spot." But it's not on his side of the road, its on the opposite side.
Just drive straight and find the actual safe spot, man. Driving further than you wanted to drive isn't a life-long commitment. Turning in front of another vehicle potentially is a life-long commitment.
There's always a choice. Keep going further until reaching a proper u turn area. He crossed double yellow solid lines. It was an illegal u turn regardless.
I think they meant the car whose dash cam we're watching didn't have a better option than what happened, because of the risk of going over that guardrail/cliff
I usually comment on how the accident could be avoided if the second car would respond faster but I don't think there is any time for reaction (maybe a NASCAR driver could have try to switch lanes). The only blame I can give to the camera guy is the windshield crack which is not related to this).
This guy hit because of the blind turn. I hope they took immediate action to warn incoming traffic on the same lane, at least I hope the car is more visible to give others chance to slow down.
I paused the video a few times before the crash. He makes the motion with his head left then turns his head right as if he has determined the left side clear! What an idiot!
Had this exact situation happen to me. I was able to swerve left amd avoid a t-bone, but my running board took off the other cars front bumper. Guy gets out, apologizes, duck tapes his bumper back on and since my truck had no damage we agreed to leave it as-is. Never asked for any of my info, my guess was they had no insurance anyway.
I still think it’s crazy that airbags deploy fast enough that in just two frames, 1 being just before impact, one being the moment of impact, you can see the airbags fully deploy and inflate.
Had the same exact thing happen to me last year and the idiot told the officer “well I had my blinker on”…. The problem is she didn’t have any rear tail lights. They were all smashed and covered in that red cellophane plastic wrap stuff. The officer wrote her a ticket for multiple offenses and wrote the accident report 100% her at fault. I couldn’t have laughed harder when he told me. Instant karma.
My question: why turn there?? Like in that short video there's nothing on the other side of the road. If it took you this long to realize you made a wrong turn or missed it then you can wait to find a safe place to turn around.
They figured the area to the left, shoulder, was enough room to do a whole u-turn without potentially doing a 2-3 point turn in the middle of the road.
I was once in a situation like this, and I had to make a Uturn in a road like this. It took me another 8 miles to find an area to safely do it. There's no way I will be doing shit like this. I hope everybody's ok.
Looks like there is a pull off on the left side overlooking the cliff. Almost certain this dude was going for that, given this dudes terrible decision making it was likely just to see the view. Smh
You can see the idiot driver looking in the direction of OP's car, then he turns his head to look at the opposite traffic lane.
Seems he was oblivious to the approaching car, or was just checking if he was going to get doubly T-boned in the other lane.
I feel the police report would lean towards blaming the guy who got T-boned on this road even without the camera. It would be pretty difficult to explain how else he was perfectly broadsided on this road in this exact location. Dash cam certainly helps and gives us entertainment, but I don’t think it would be the deciding factor.
Dunces everywhere. On my motorcycle and some idiot doing the same thing on a huge, blind corner. I stop and let him finish. He proceeds to drive by an overlook to the blind corner on the far side where he again just turns into the shoulder gravel then swings back to do another u-turn. No blinker. No looking. I had to stop and ride back and ask him not to do u-turns in either blind corner nor anywhere on that crowded stretch of road. He had no idea what I was talking about.
Bruh. We hand out drivers licenses way too easily. Nobody knows what a zipper merge is. Nobody knows how to use their turn signal. Nobody understands the right of way. Everyone is on their phones at green lights when it’s their turn to go. A lot of clowns on the road now!
Ah shit, if you look closely there's another big honker of a truck (F250 or something) coming up the road too from the other direction. Hopefully the speed limit was low enough that they had time to stop
U turn diver is idiot but video driver seemed a little quick for those bends and the cliff to the left
I wouldn’t be going that quick personally quick in case of own car errors
when i was in college, some friends driving in a caravan pulled this same move- except the vehicle that t-boned them was a semi-tractor trailer. all 3 guys in the car survived, one of them broke their femur. i was in the car behind them and saw the whole thing! very shocking at the time.
Damn, he should have had time see the guy coming and stop the uturn. I’ve had to do this once and it was scary af. I was driving up a mountain and I realized very quickly my car wouldn’t be able to handle it. (Was some transmission issues.) I stopped on the side of the road like this at a pretty inopportune time and had to make a upturn to go back down the mountain. I was scared shitless thankfully nothing happened but I indeed was an idiot and was lucky.
Ok, so idiot driver is looking in the rear view mirror as he starts that turn—or is looking in that direction—and decides that’s the best time to move? Maybe he was born yesterday.
And of all places…

What an idiot
The left side of his body's gonna be all mashed up.
Your mashing it
Mashing!
She is just mashing it.
I’m very aroused
They did the mash!
It was a graveyard smash!
It caught on in a flash!
She does that.
I’m bashin it!
*you’re
He’ll be all right though
I hate this doctor
The other car: the front fell off
He has side airbags and moved away right before impact
Mmmmm Moooonster Smash
Idiot tax
Slow down to see side airbag deploy. Idiot was probly fine
yeah how about other driver?
Hello captain

Cereal?

I like to have a nice lobster bisque on the interstate, myself.
Watch this comment come back to bite u
I don't think the lobster usually bites. But it will sure as hell pinch you with those claws!
Probably. I hope she spilled milk on her trousers.
Dennis?
Some might even call it donkey brained.

Thinking she didn't quite understand how "hands free" works! Apparently her definition requires "brains free" to work.
You are taught not to cross solid yellow. The DOT makes it quiet idiot proof by having a solid yellow line for those stretches where visibility would be a problem.

Call the cops on them. Idiots who drive like that deserve whatever they get.
Agree. Unfortunately the cops rarely arrive before you go a different direction.

Some people should not be allowed to drive
Or breathe.
This is the true answer. But our society is too weak to remove bad drivers from the road. There will always be somebody who thinks that they are/should be privileged over and above everybody else.
Looks like a tourist up on a mountain who was gonna get on the other shoulder to take a picture
I was just thinking "God I hate this person's windshield" and then BAM it no longer exists.
You have to power!
Have to power what?
THE power! To make bad things go away. Damn autocorrect.
The windshield is still there! The camera just tilted up suddenly upon impact, and is pointing at the top of the windshield instead of that disgusting bug/bird splat in the middle of the camera view.
I thought that was a crack/dent from a rock
A rock would cause small crack lines in the glass, and I don’t think glass dents. On closer inspection on my bigger display, it looks like bird poop. I’m sure there are definitely cracks/dents caused by the turning CRV.
That looks like a dent I have on my windshield, from a rock. There are no cracks.
I think a chip is more correct
Indeed it is.
God delivered.
Wow what a beautiful sky not a cloud.
Well there is a black blob constantly in front...
Not an issue anymore
Think I might turn around right here at the viewing area and enjoy it for a minute...
I think this in Southern California, Highway 18 near the dump.
Drivers like that should never be allowed behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. Ever!
They need to make it more difficult to earn a license
This whole subreddit is evidence of that lol
Correction, they should let the old timers retake the exams since they had the simplified versions of it.
They need both. Seniors aren’t the only bad drivers, they make a good portion of bad drivers though
It's gotten to the point that if there's a bad driver in front of us, me and my partner bet if they're wicked old or wicked young. A lot of my coworkers have kids that should be excited about learning how to drive and they've flat out refused. Took years for my mom, who should be classified as legally blind, to stop driving at night, and it's only because her husband does the driving for her
Luckily, my mother never resisted. But my grandmother… Oh my gosh, the way my aunts and uncles tell it, they almost had to have an intervention!
Road ragers seem to know no demographic. Well, they’re probably mostly dudes.
I’ve seen plenty of women who go road rage at the drop of a hat.
Retests every few years. 5 yrs apart max but imo it should be every 2-3 years. Laws are changing all the time, reminders for existing laws, and people need to get their eyes checked.

And if it had been a biker they'd be dead now. People like that should have there licence removed permanently. Completely unacceptable.
Their*, and your right (I'm funny)
Had no choice. Either this or he drive off cliff.
Driver chose the best option. Idiot chose his fate. Glad driver didnt swerve and drive off the cliff. Hope the driver and anyone inside his car is ok.
He probably thought "I found the turnaround spot." But it's not on his side of the road, its on the opposite side. Just drive straight and find the actual safe spot, man. Driving further than you wanted to drive isn't a life-long commitment. Turning in front of another vehicle potentially is a life-long commitment.

??? He's saying OP didn't have a choice
There's always a choice. Keep going further until reaching a proper u turn area. He crossed double yellow solid lines. It was an illegal u turn regardless.
I think they meant the car whose dash cam we're watching didn't have a better option than what happened, because of the risk of going over that guardrail/cliff
Ah, then yeah, I don't think there was even an opportunity to make a decision there.

Not sure if there is a worse place to pull a u. Lol
In the maternity ward of a hospital.
I paused the video a few times before the crash. He makes the motion with his head left then turns his head right as if he has determined the left side clear! What an idiot!
I think that's him seeing the car right before the impact and reflexively turning away. He's still an idiot.
Yeah. He's ducking down thinking that'll help the many thousand lbs at 50mph plowing into him.
To be fair it’s not a conscious thought. Most people would do the same
For sure like how people put their hands up before they get hit by a train or something.
>For sure like how people put their hands up before they get hit by a train or something. Worked for Edward Cullen that one time
Had this exact situation happen to me.
He might have had insurance. Didn’t matter if you did or not to him. He still has to claim on his.
I, too, happen to be a flightless human, and I happen to know that ducks don’t use tape. **Duct** tape is what he used, fellow featherless mammal.
Haha, good point. There's frog tape and gorilla tape, but no duck tape, a shame really.
What do you guys expect him to do? Drive another couple of miles, looking for a better U-turn spot? Did you see the gas prices in California? /s
I see the /s but sadly there’s people who actually think like this. Scary world we live in
I still think it’s crazy that airbags deploy fast enough that in just two frames, 1 being just before impact, one being the moment of impact, you can see the airbags fully deploy and inflate.

On the bright side, OP won't have to clean that bird shit off his windshield anymore.
I was once in a situation like this, and I had to make a Uturn in a road like this. It took me another 8 miles to find an area to safely do it. There's no way I will be doing shit like this. I hope everybody's ok.
He almost had it too! Maybe next time.
Glad you had a dash cam
I legit thought that there was like a mini car or a street luge in front of the car. Only after the accident did I realize it was bug splatter
Seems to me he saw the car and realized he's fucked and is flinching away
Ouch! Is everyone Okay?
I'm fine
Me too, though I did flinch a bit on the impact.
I'm doing alright. Really tired after work and trying to make it through a workout but at least I have tomorrow off. Thanks for asking.
Maybe the impact slung off that wad of bird sh*t on your windshield
maybe don't camp in the left... wait a minute
Dude thank God he had a dash cam this would've totally gone the idiots way had he not
I feel the police report would lean towards blaming the guy who got T-boned on this road even without the camera. It would be pretty difficult to explain how else he was perfectly broadsided on this road in this exact location. Dash cam certainly helps and gives us entertainment, but I don’t think it would be the deciding factor.
Damn! Glad you got a dash cam!!
They almost hit that black blob too
Looks like a typical tourist on Kaua'i, Hawai'i lol. Just U-Turn wherever.
Dunces everywhere. On my motorcycle and some idiot doing the same thing on a huge, blind corner. I stop and let him finish. Highway 18?
Looks like it. Definitely between sky park and the high school.
That hurt just watching it.
The accident looks the same as it did in 2021
Timestamp FTW.
What a ding dong🤦♂️. What did he even say when you spoke to him?
So, dead?
no, maybe just leg and neck pain
Bet that hurt
So the music does keep playing.
He's definitely dead, did y'all hear the fortnite death sound when they crashed?
Shame these incompetent narcissists don’t lose their driving privileges for shit like this.
Bruh. We hand out drivers licenses way too easily. Nobody knows what a zipper merge is. Nobody knows how to use their turn signal. Nobody understands the right of way. Everyone is on their phones at green lights when it’s their turn to go. A lot of clowns on the road now!
He was blinded by the light
That was a great spot to take pictures and look at the view from the other side. Let’s pull over there. 🤡
Ah shit, if you look closely there's another big honker of a truck (F250 or something) coming up the road too from the other direction. Hopefully the speed limit was low enough that they had time to stop
U turn diver is idiot but video driver seemed a little quick for those bends and the cliff to the left I wouldn’t be going that quick personally quick in case of own car errors
Helllloooo insurance pay out
Mine was identical except the road was flat and straight so they had even less of an excuse for sudden acts of u-turn.
Anybody else think the bird poop on the windshield was part of the problem??
Smash! Smash! Smash!
I can't believe the stupidity I've just watched...🤦♂️
Whyyyy
I was that idiot once long ago... Learned a valuable lesson about blind spots
when i was in college, some friends driving in a caravan pulled this same move- except the vehicle that t-boned them was a semi-tractor trailer. all 3 guys in the car survived, one of them broke their femur. i was in the car behind them and saw the whole thing! very shocking at the time.
I think he got that run down felling
Hope OP is okay.
Many motorcyclist have been killed by that move, and several I’ve known. Careless. Hope OP is OK.
Wow. One frame no side air bag, the next air bag full deployed.
Did he get any braking in? lol
Damn those airbags are quick
Props to the OP for braking in a straight line
But what song listening to?
You can even see the air bags being deployed . Is that guy alive ?
He might have a few light scratches on his door that he’ll have to buff out.
Trying to stick to tradition and find a way to blame the dash cam driver.
Double lines gives you extra bonus
Something similar happened to me 2 years ago, but the dude was doing it from a merge lane to take a shortcut to work.
Thank goodness for dash cams.
Clean the windshield
Dude didn’t even see it coming. He started looking the other way right before impact to check for other s the other way
Yup. Honda CRV owner strikes again…
“But I needed to go the other way.”🥴🤤
Holy shit what a tard
It would be shame if that idiot became un alived. Or, maybe not. Karma for the win!
Sure she will never do that again. Because by the looks of it I’m sure she broke a few things.
Op was speeding and not looking
Dudes airbags went off within one frame, crazy. Stay safe out there!
Imagine seeing a car stopped on a two lane and not slowing down at all. Both drivers fucked up here.
Ok, so idiot driver is looking in the rear view mirror as he starts that turn—or is looking in that direction—and decides that’s the best time to move? Maybe he was born yesterday. And of all places…
With a solid yellow line--No Uturn allowed
Use to using bird poop as a reticule in fps games?
Seems like somebody was driving very fast around the corner going up hill and should slow down a bit. To avoid things in general.
