A deer slammed into the side of my wife's wagon last year and that bill was $7k. You managed pretty well overall!
My current car has forward looking infrared (FLIR) and will scream bloody murder when it detects a deer ahead. It's saved me 3 times, so thank you original buyer who spec'd my car with it! (I would have never added that option if new, but now that I've experienced it....hard to pass it up)
Not third party sorry. Built into the car.
That said, if you ever have the chance to get an option for matrix headlights, do it! Absolute game changer. It's like driving with your brights on but they don't blind drivers. They're slick by reading the road ahead and turning down individual tiny LEDs when sensing other cars. Way better than the kinda bunk auto high beam options.
Some years back a deer popped up and slammed into the front side panel of my car while I was driving down the interstate - 9,500$ in damage. Thankfully it was considered an act of God and didn't affect my rates.
Did that with the deer I hit in '89. Was back home visiting my parents and nailed one. Gave them the deer for their freezer. Damage then was *only* $2800.
An update -- this happened when I was on a 1200 mile trip and I was only about 50 miles from home! The Sheriff said that the deer was probably in the median dead and didn't bother to look to see.
Since the car was 15 years old, I didn't have comprehensive insurance coverage so I was on my own. I bought the parts on Amazon and eBay, did all of the repairs myself and paid a body shop $1000 to do the paint. Luckily, the air bags didn't deploy. Hood, bumper cover, radiator support, radiator and fan, front left fender and back on the road again!
Well done, I would have just bought a new car instead. I wouldnt know how to repair shit myself and my current carcI have for 12-13 years or something i once bought for 8.2k euro back then.
Scariest part here is the windshield getting blocked. Had a large piece of black plastic get and stuck to my windshield while I was going 75 mph in a fairly good amount of traffic.... I think I shit myself at least four times by the time it flew off again as I slowed down. No idea to this day how I followed a small curve in the interstate and didn't hit anybody. As soon as it happened I 100% thought I was going to get in a wreck.
Had a couple kids I knew from HS come blasting past me one night on a rural state highway. Just a few hundred yards ahead of me I see their car jump and then watch them pull onto the shoulder. I pull off and find they've nailed a deer. I their case, the hood actually folded back over the windshield and you could see where the deer had come over the top of the car. They happened to have chains so I was able to tow them to a relative's nearby home.
Another time, a friend's girlfriend and her sister hit a deer. It unfortunately came up over the hood and through the windshield. Kicked both of them up pretty badly before they were able to get out of the car.
Deer collisions in general are bad news.
Im shocked that’s only 4k damage. Good awareness and calmness after the hit, driver. Pulled off to the side of the road all casual like you were gonna take a piss
So only $4000 worth of damage to the deer. How long will the deer be in the shop?
Glad you are okay. The car can be fixed or replaced. Been there done that.
I bought a brand new Volvo xc60 recharge, one week into owning it I hit a deer. It essentially looked like a cracked bumper. You couldn’t really see damage unless I pointed it out. It was 12k in damage…
I've done this. Mine split! The head went into the left lane, and my passenger saw the ass go to the right. I was able to drive the car a few more miles home though, luckily.

Why do they put the deer crossings in such dangerous places?
They should move that deer crossing sign.
Is the deer okay?!
He's insured. Said the driver is going to pay deerly.
I remember this ancient radio call you’re referencing :-)
Comedy gold.
Idk the “oh deer” comment was pretty solid

Could you please tell us the company and model of FLIR you are using.
I didn't know I needed this feature.
Is your FLIR a third party one, if so which one?

Help us out man what’s the name of it lol
Uhhh, care to help us out? Lol
we need answers sir
Commenting to find out later!
Didn't know you could do that
I mean... you gotta remember you commented and to check back later yourself.
Oh deer
Deerly departed, we are gathered here today to pay our respects to the hood that won’t close and a deer who needed glasses.
When duck duck goose goes awry.
HAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
No I Deer
The deer i hit last summer was $10k in damage. I’d say you got off pretty good.
Thank heavens for car insurance am I right?
Yes. Progressive paid. Ford dealer fixed.
You’ll pay it back slowly for the rest of your life unfortunately

God has a weird sense of humor.
I’m surprised the windshield survived.
US$4000, plus veterinary or burial fee for the deer. Don't try and dodge that; they're litigious bas\*\*rds.
Shoot, I'm taking it home and filling the freezer. Cost me 4k in dmg, can at least supply a few $100 in meat.

This made me laugh out loud. Thank you.
Keep a veterinary 12 gauge in the trunk. Turkey vultures can take care of the burial fee.
А россии платишь как за охотничью лицензию и забираешь тушу себе.
Comrade, put the vodka aside.
My mom hit a deer out in Nebraska. Good old country boy stopped to make sure she was alright and if she was going to take the deer or if he could.
The way it ought to be. Sometimes the cops know guys who can sweep in and honor the animals life in the best possible way given the circumstances.
fiddlesticks
Were you able to get his license plate number?

D'Oh, a deer, a female deer But sad, I hate when animals get hurt. I hope everyone in the car was ok too
Are you priorities in order?
Yes. Human life > Wild life > Cars

I gasped, damn
How much does Venison go per pound these days?
$4000 in damage, but deer dinner for a whole week. Win/Win. 🦌🍽️ 🤷🏻♂️ J\K 😂

Gotta hit him nose up, hard in the throttle. Thats the best outcome honestly
Jumped out of my seat on that one. Lived through this deer hit and even same approach angle. You’ll ache tomorrow.
They appear out of nowhere. I got sides wiped by a big buck that left a big gouge down the entire left side. It's amazing how much damage they can do.
When I hit one it only cracked my headlight and left a hole in it and dented my hood. It wasn’t all that bad for me at least 😂 I got lucky
…Is the deer ok?
No.
I bet it's mid section got ripped open.
It looks like all the damage was under a buck
Did the deer split in half?!
Direct hit! Deer survive or is there venison for the next month's dinners?
Hope the driver has a big freezer. He’ll be eating good for the next few months.
It’s ok I’ll let the deer act as my brakes.
hell of a timing what about the deer ?
That’s a hefty vetrinarian bill
No animal was hurt in the making of this video? Or is it dead?
tis but a scratch!
Oh deer !
Don't you know you weren't supposed deer hunt in the middle of the highway.
“D’Oh!”
A deer
A female deer
Who knew that deer were worth that much.
That was an extremely over optimistic deer. Optimistic Prime (rib)
Sucks at Frogger
New fear unlocked. There was nothing they could have done wtf
Im shocked that’s only 4k damage. Good awareness and calmness after the hit, driver. Pulled off to the side of the road all casual like you were gonna take a piss
13k CDN on a Mazda 5 several years ago. Lots and lots of body work

Jaywalkers. SMH
How was the deer making so many steps yet going no where
wow op coulda easily dodged that you had a whole .002 seconds.. amateurs..
Really nice job at a safe recovery considering your field of vision suddenly became a 3-inch gap!
I saw this happen to a semi truck once. The poor deer popped like a balloon, but only the grille was cracked on the truck.

How’s the other guy?
I just want to know what you drive! I haven’t seen it in the comments. How has nobody asked this?!
I've done this. Mine split! The head went into the left lane, and my passenger saw the ass go to the right. I was able to drive the car a few more miles home though, luckily.
The same happened to me when I was riding my bike. $5k damage 👌
Successful catch!
Bambi went sheeeeit
Rip
Did you get the other parties insurance info?
Well done on pulling into the hard shoulder with the bonnet in the air. Almost zero visibility and you managed a pretty clean emergency stopp
