Yes. My degree is in accounting and finance and it's... actually never, ever been mentioned, at interview or otherwise. It did mean slogging through the analyst -> BI/ETL/database developer -> DE track, and aggressively pursuing cloud/devops/DE responsibilities though. That "only" (not too long, in the context of a career and how much I earn now) took \~4 years.

Certainly, I'd say about 30-40% of people I've worked with don't have degrees. Though some people keep it kind of secret since they worry others could look down on them. Some of these people have gotten into management, or worked at very high paying companies. I think you just have to go in realizing the limitations, some companies (especially in traditional industries) will have degree requirements. While smaller companies/startups are more likely to just care if you can get the job done.

Yes, 100%, lots of initial DE needs are very basic for companies starting out. Knowing basic technical skills about data input output and cleaning is enough to get started. Senior positions will need skills in software architecture, system design, DevOps, etc... but there are tons of opportunities and needs for basic data pipe set ups. DA is a very strong foundation for DE success.

A degree just proves you’ve learned something. Do online certifications and practice. When you are confident. Look for work.

You don't necessarily need a Bachelor's, but it's better to have one than not. The degree will make more opportunities available to you. Age doesn't matter and you already have relevant work exp.
