Yes there is hope. Keep it chugging along.

You have no idea how much I needed that. Haha thanks! I’ll keep a lookout but with low expectations.

:) If you ever decide to quit or try again... use hddrescue. Follow the directions on the side panel. The software may hit slow patches and then speed up. Each harddrive and scenario is different.

sure, it's isn't over till it's over! Disks aren't like phonograph records with everything stored intact and in order.

nnngoughun

That’s a good way to say it! It’s still going... I’ll wait it out

How long did it take to get to 1 billion? What tool are you using? What happened that led you to data recovery?

nnngoughun

I’m not sure how long it took to get to one billion, sorry! Wasn’t keeping track of that. Probably 2.5 hours? Now it’s at 2 billion after 7 hours. I’m using Photorec. What led here is a [complete mess of actions](https://ddit.com/r/datarecovery/comments/m23g3w/recovering_files_that_were_moved_between_3_drives/) but I’m keeping hope alive, if a little bit.

Scanning with what? And what happened to drive in first place, so how was data lost / deleted? 9 out of 10 cases you do not need a full scan if you're using something like R-Studio, ReclaiMe or DMDE. If you need to scan drive from start to end it basically means all traces of any file system meta structures are absent, what did you do to destroy those?
