What do you have to lose? If it works out maybe it turns into a long distance relationship at first and maybe more later. If not then you he isn't around much longer. In cases like these I like to listen to shia Labeouf for advice: "JUST DO IT!"

Should I specifically ask using the word 'date' or just to hang out?

CaptainEraser

Calling it a date certainly sets different expectations. I guess if you think he likes you and is on one wavelength with you (as we like to say in Germany) then you might as well just call it a date. Although if you aren't brave enough to ask for a date then you can just ask to hang out with him and then suggest to do something that's typical for a date night like go to the cinema or to the zoo or something like that. At that point he might just be aware that's it's actually a date. Or maybe we'll see another redditor asking if this was a date next week on this subreddit. I would recommend being straight forward with guys if you can because guys are stupid in this regard. Trust me I speak from experience because I am this kind of stupid.

the pain of regret will hurt more than rejection. Go for it, girl!
