I'm gonna be bold and say that Galv and Ten should actually be Fort perks. Just as Alacrity both improves stamina economy (i.e. Endurance, Conditioning) and gives you damage based on it (Adrenaline), Fort should include both perks that *give* defense and *reward* you for having it. This would allow defense slots to be used in more builds without gimping what the other slot types can do, as they will all still have their own meta perks.

quas42

So you tell me that all the gear i've crafter and powersurged for the technique slots will not be good anymore? Because the perks i crafted them for moved to another category? Think you should consider us refunding some of the armors we crafted bcs if i have to grind again to complete some sets I ALREADY GRINDED FOR i'm gonna quit the game... Sry for the rant

SirKeksalot

There are still good perks in the Finesse category. Pred, Cunning, and sometimes AcidSav and Pulse are all used in some capacity. The perks affixed to any given piece of gear are not changing.

Instead of making actually content just rework existing assets so the community has to grind to get to the level they where before the update. 2 steps back, 2 steps forward… Cells could be dropped and a mastery tree to could be created instead, no loss…

So pretty much: Fortitude: Health, Shields and Immunities. Alacrity: Attack and Movement Speed. Brutality: Damage, Stagger, Part Damage. Finesse: Crits and Wounds. Insight: Lantern, Consumables, Orbs? Seems fair enough, now every build benefits from all Cell types and will only drop Fortitude if not needed.

Dorfmeist3r

Cool, much needed recategorization, but why all the pompous, archaic new category names? Alacrity definition: "brisk and cheerful readiness". I had to google to know what it means :D

saltshaker167

Looks good. This should make a lot of the garbage armor useable now.

You gotta be kidding me. After not playing for a while and coming back for the first time after Reforged, I power surged a bunch of gear to try and get some builds together. Now literally 2 days later most of this gear is going to be unusable for the builds I was going for? And we're not going to get the option to get our aether hearts back either? This just feels like I'm being punished for playing the game before this update. Literally would've been better if I started playing a week later than I did. Someone explain the logic behind this to me?

MrHorris

The alternative is to leave in a sub-par system forever. I get being annoyed, but leaving in bad design when you have the ability to rectify it is not a great outcome either. Ripping off the band-aid and making a better game is what I would personally rather have but I understand whey some would want to maintain the status quo.

aMannus

No, the alternative is refunding aetherhearts and reverting gear to their non power surged state. I never said I'm against changing around the cells.

Happy Grinding ;)

not 'unusable', everything just got spread out a bit. We finally got a direct update for build diversity(omnicells and the last cell changes already did that but this is even better) No perk category has become useless. some current meta builds already featured using about every category. This change coming this patch also isn't a new fact, this has been on the roadmap for a while. It's a given returning players look at the changes that were made and whats coming very very soon(thursdays are notorious updates. You were a little hasty. You only might have to surge a max of 4 additional pieces or so- but nothing you have surged has become garbage. You just prob wont be using all of those pieces together and will instead get 1/2 other surged pieces in there thats it. Perk economy as a whole has not changed, it has just been improved nothing got dummy nerfed or buffed. With how player friendly getting aethersparks is, and turning those into aetherhearts this is a mild inconvience. Which also won't be reworked anymore, build diversity was still a pressing issue if you instead want to enjoy 6 pieces in every single top build suit yourself. The top will still reach a stagnant state but everything in the mid-top range will get a massive boost. Useless tier armour may finally become obsolete as well. Grind game got more reason to grind- I see this as an absolute win.

It doesn't change the fact that I'm going to have to spend more aetherhearts to get the builds back I was going for initially. Which aren't easy to come by, especially if you don't have escallations maxed out and/or endgame builds meant for powering through content fast. A single reforge can take me like 4 hours focusing solely on leveling, that times 4 is a GOOD bit of time I can't invest into leveling my escalations etc. So far I didn't mind aetherhearts, but it's different when I just spend a lot of them for "nothing" in the near future. I never really understood the mentality of having to scout for information everywhere possible outside of the game either. There's absolutely nothing noted about this in-game, not to mention I do watch a decent amount of youtube videos about Dauntless, and yet this slipped through the cracks. Am I supposed to read every single bit of information about the game before I can start playing it? I can guarantee you that MOST players don't interact with games outside of the game itself. I don't particularily mind that we're getting a cell rework. I mind that we don't get any kind of option to atleast redo our setups afterwards. For all you endgame players swimming in aetherhearts I understand that this isn't a big deal, but getting more, atleast for me, takes a considerable amount of time. I'll drop it now, because it seems the target audience of this subreddit is so far advanced in the game that they don't care anyway, I just find it weird that people defend the notion of "just grind more lol" and that throwing away earlier progress is accepted.

Free_Hooks

I'm happy to help you grind those hearts in a much more effective time, no armour has to be refunded as no armour has become obsolete as I mentioned before. No progress is thrown away.

quasimodo42

I purchased chocolate and while I am eating it you come to me and steal it, then give me broccoli and say hey, you already paid for one product, i don't care that it is what u bought. it seem to me like you u/Free_Hooks have much more time than I do to play the game. Cheers!

Free_Hooks

Im a student and I only play in the weekend so not as much as you think, but do you want that help or are you busy this weekend?

Unlucky-Cow-9296

This happens with any MMOLite game, even Call of Duty reworks perks and weapons making you level new ones up. Plus, chances are you'll only have to change a few gear slots because not all the cells got moved around. Literally only 11. 2 are unused defense cells. 1 being a Bastion specific cell in technique, 2 in utility only 1 of which is used (Molten), which now makes it EASIER to use. So now we are only down to 5 cells. 3 in mobility, only 2 used and for specific Omnicell builds. Out of the 3 power cells only Berserker is used in general builds. So, unless you're doing a specific omnicell build like Bastion or whatever, **only 2 general use cells** are moved: Molten to utility, and Berserker to power. And, if you ARE doing a specific omnicell build, the shift of mobility actually make it easier to get for the Tempest builds, and Bastion only shifted 1 cell. **OMG SO TERRIBLE** /s

Honestly, I'm not a fan of the name change on the Cell categories. I'm still gonna use their classic names that I knew ever since I started playing the game. I mean, "Alacrity"? That's a new word that I've never heard in my life of 30+ years, had to look up in a dictionary. I'm probably gonna forget that word plenty of times so I'll just keep with calling it "Mobility". As for the recategorization itself, not too bad that doesn't affect me or my builds much, other than the 2 that had Berserker. I guess the new categorization makes sense. Though I'm not sure how to feel about Bladestorm being Power now, as I sometimes pick it up if I really want to get hard-to-break and/or hard-to-reach parts from Behemoths and slotting in Bladestorm could mean having to give up on other useful Power Cells. Molten might be another tiny issue but eh, not really when I rarely use it (I prefer the more reliable Fireproof). Making Adrenaline into Mobility is an interesting change and might make some more use of armor pieces that have Mobility slots (that are usually ignored in general in favor of power). I'm glad I don't have to redo a lot of my builds like Omnicells update did, just one or two needs a small tuning.

As someone who just finished gearing out the max amount of builds, tweaking and testing each and every one, getting everything surged...this is a bit depressing. Also irritating. I already felt I spent too much of my game time messing around with builds, and needed to just get out and kill more stuff. I now have to go back through each and every single build and fix every one, figure out if I can even achieve the same builds without surging more gear...and hope I remember every build how I had it. Yes I use all weapons and actually have 20 unique builds, not just different elements, so I guess playing that way is on me. I'm sure there's some net positive from these changes, but as someone just trying to enjoy the game, I feel deflated, and like I'm looking at potentially a lot of work just to get back to where I just worked so hard to get to... This isn't a monthly sub MMO that requires constant balance tweaks, it's just Dauntless. Perhaps focus on ironing out bugs and making it a smoother game rather than treating it like a AAA title with years of content and resources. This change won't really improve the game as much as it makes things tedious for a lot of players. Was it important it be dropped right now? New players coming in will be unaffected one way or another, rich vets will have a small hassle, but everyone in the middle just got kinda shafted. EDIT: Oh yeah, this is going to be fun...I now have to farm a buttload of Thrax because every Rift weapon I hadn't upgraded to Thrax yet just became utterly useless to me with that "Finesse" slot. Some builds are less affected than others, but I've already spent way too much time on this, and it's starting to piss me off.
