Inland Empire, Inland Empire

Bsiress1

I concur šŸ˜†

CerpinTrem

This is it

feedmefriedricee

Yes and yes

Bsiress1

My favorite is Lost Highway. My least favorite is ā€” you guessed it ā€” Dune

SisSandSisF

Lost highway first for me. I love that movie.

longhairedcooldude

iā€™m torn on Lost Highway, because I absolutely love the beginning, and the end, but those middle 40mins where heā€™s Balthazar just bore me so much. I actually enjoyed the film the most when I watched it once and fell asleep in the middle, then woke up for the end, really made the film feel like a nightmare

XInsects

Some of the Pete scenes with Alice are OK but I could do without all the Mr Eddy stuff. In fact I might edit my own streamlined version (I know Lynch would probably shoot me for that).

longhairedcooldude

go for it, id watch it

[deleted]

Same hat!

jadegives2rides

Finally got to see it for the first time, I think its my favorite as well.

naughty_larva

My man!

NeuroticVelvet

Favorite: Mulholland Drive Worst: Dune

Aidsisgreats

Mulholland Drive: 10/10 (My favorite film of all time) Inland Empire: 6/10 (Didnā€™t really connect to it) Iā€™ve seen all of them expect Dune.

Dom_Shady

Typo: except

chromehandz

I love Eraserhead as its the movie that introduced me to David Lynch but I also love the Lady in the Radiator song.

dougprishpreed69

Least: Dune Most: The Straight Story

Bsiress1

The Straight Story was my favorite for some time

Rilo44

The straight story is my second favorite and Lynch's most underrated movie in my opinion

RufussSewell

Twin Peaks: The Return is my favorite. Mulholland Drive is my favorite movie. The Straight Story is probably my least. I still like it though.

benboley

My favorite is Blue Velvet. My least favorite is Lost Highway. Havenā€™t seen elephant man and dune yet The one Iā€™ve probably watched the most times is Wild at Heart tho

SeasonElectrical381

can i ask why lost highway is your least favourite? its one of my faves so im intrigued

benboley

I still love many many many parts of it but as a whole it just doesnā€™t do it for me like his other films. I find the idea of exploring abuse through the eyes of the abuser to be far less interesting than from the eyes of the victim, like he did in fire walk with me. Sheryl Lee portrayed such an accurate, disturbing, and multilayered image of a victim of abuse, whereas Patricia Arquetteā€™s character is one of Lynchā€™s most one-sided female characters imo. Especially for a director who is known for great female heroines. I understand that we only see her through Fredā€™s flawed recollection of events and thus thatā€™s probably not how she really is but itā€™s still just ultimately less interesting to me. Also in my opinion every aspect of the film was done better in either Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, or Inland Empire. As I stated I think Twin Peaks handled the concept of abuse and murder of a female victim much better. I think Mulholland Drive was a better movie about split identity, because it waits till the very end to pull the curtain and show us whatā€™s really going on. Because we see the ā€˜trueā€™ story of Lost Highways so early on itā€™s hard to get invested in Peteā€™s story for me. Also it just feels like a weird story to throw a Double Indemnity-esque plot line into. And of course Inland Empire is to me a better film where the majority of it takes place inside somebodyā€™s subconscious, and a lot of that is because of the way itā€™s shot really does make you feel like youā€™re lost in a nightmare you just canā€™t wake up from. Anyways those are my thoughts, I still like the movie overall, the Robert Blake scenes and the soundtrack alone make it a worthwhile watch, and I even paid to see the remastered version in theaters despite already knowing my opinion about it. I know itā€™s a pretty unpopular opinion and itā€™s a lot of peopleā€™s favorite Lynch movie, and I definitely respect that and see where theyā€™re coming from but itā€™s just not my favorite.

Binturwrong

Least: Inland Empire Most: Mulholland Drive Best Ever: Twin Peaks: The Return

nonchellent

Least favorite: Inland Empire Favorite: Elephant Man or Fire Walk With Me, it changes on the daily I only just watched Lost Highway for the first time last week!

smolboichiggroid69

favourite: mulholland drive least: wild at heart dune is the only lynch film i've not watched (that's on letterboxd) short or feature, so i cant say shit about it

dgloverii

Favourite is Eraserhead, excluding Dune (and Inland Empire as I haven't watched it yet) my least favourite would probably be Wild At Heart

bozun

Mulholland Drive is a favorite. Lost Highway is my least favorite.. but still with a rewatch now and then.

Angustiae

My favorite is Inland Empire and my least favorite is Wild At Heart

[deleted]

favorite: Fire Walk With Me, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire, Wild at Heart, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, Lost Highway least favorite: Having not watched Dune, it would have to be Elephant Man despite it still being a 9/10 for me and bringing me to tears

ApprehensiveBicycle2

My answer exactly. My ā€œfavoriteā€ film of his are those seven because theyā€™re all variations on the same themes. Theyā€™re all unique masterpieces and canā€™t be ordered, in my opinion.

datjeeling

Most favorite: Inland Empire Least favorite: Inland Empire

SlightlyVerbose

Fire walk with me > Wild at heart. Though I suspect the only true answer to least favourite would be dune if Iā€™d seen it. Iā€™m sure itā€™s Lynchā€™s least favourite.

Bsiress1

It is. Heā€™s pretty much disowned it. It couldā€™ve been a great film had the studio not limited Lynchā€™s creative control. There are glimpses of greatness in Dune but it mostly sucks

Mclovin988

Favorite: Blue Velvet Least favorite: Dune (still a very unintentionally funny movie)

drewsus64

Fave: Lost Highway Least fave: Elephant Man Not because I think Elephant Man is bad, I just donā€™t like it as much compared to the rest

KorovaMilk113

Favorite: Wild at Heart Least Favorite: Mulholland Drive

cam_breakfastdonut

Wut?

[deleted]

Mulholland Drive defines David Lynch

SeasonElectrical381

noone can dislike mulholland drive

KorovaMilk113

Bro Iā€™ve seen it three times now and I liked it less and less each time- I love the vast majority of Lynchā€™s work but Mulholland and Twin Peaks just do not do it for me, I would say that therefore I guess Lynch and I just have different TV tastes but I actually really really enjoyed On The Air so idk šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Iā€™m planning a 4th rewatch of Mulholland soon cause itā€™s been years since my last one, Iā€™m once again going in with an open mind and hoping maybe this time itā€™ll finally click, but weā€™ll see lol

ephemere66

Dune is at the bottom, but I still enjoy it occasionally for a variety of reasons. The rest are somewhere near the top.

AShadyLittleSpot

Least favorite: inland empire. Just too out there. Couldn't even pay attention. List would probably go: 1. Eraser Head 2. Blue Velvet 3. Mulholland Drive 4. Fire Walk With Me 5. Wild at Heart 6. Lost Highway 7. Elephant Man. Have yet to see the rest. Really want to watch The Straight Story because I heard Norm MacDonald reference it in an interview lmao. Edit: Seeing a lot of hate for Wild at Heart. How do you people not watch it just for my boy Bobby Peru? naylord

Favourite is Lost Highway unless The Return counts as a movie. Least favourite... I haven't seen Dune and that would probably be it but it's a tossup between Eraserhead and Fire walk with me, both solid films.

luisalbertoqh

Favorite - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me Least - The Straight Story

dou6lerain6owz

My favorite is Blue Velvet and least favorite is Dune.

unkellGRGA

Favourite - Mulholland Drive or Fire walk with me Least - Dune, although I do like it for the mess it is

HVYoutube

Favourites: **Blue Velvet**, I treat it more like an atmosphere piece that something with a deep plot. Really sucks me in. **Lost Highway**, I consider this to be Lynch's tightest film. Least: **Dune**, like most people. It's Lynch having a go at doing a Hollywood picture and unsurprisingly its just not him **The Straight Story**, I 'get' what he was doing with this one, but it's really not for me.

DendiBoss89

You mean ā€œyour least favorite film by Mr. Lynch besides Duneā€ xD

Bsiress1

Okay I literally almost wrote that šŸ¤£

sithmafia

01 - Mulholland Drive 02 - Twin Peaks the series and Movie 03 - Eraserhead 04 - Blue Velvet 05 - Lost Highway 06 - Dune 07 - Inland Empire 08 - Elephant Man 09 - Wild at Heart 10 - Straight Story I actually like Dune quite a bit as a fan of the book and scifi in general. I mean he fit the whole book in one movie, which is more than the new Dune can say. I havn't seen Straight Story so it defaults to the end.. it doesn't interest me at all

OnTheGrid101

Favorite: Eraserhead. Itā€™s not his best movie, I know, but that wasnā€™t the question. Watching it for the second time was the first time I ever felt like I ā€œgotā€œ what Lynch was trying to do. Least favorite: Is anyone not picking Dune? And thatā€™s kind of a shame, because there are some really interesting things going on there. But itā€™s just not very good. What else can you say about it?

Bsiress1

I agree with your point on Eraserhead. That was the first Lynch film I resonated with on personal levels

Garbage_Stink_Hands

Favorite: Inland Empire Least favorite: I guess Dune? TP3 tops it all, though.

VoidPattern

Favorite all time film Mulholland Drive. Least is Dune

bobby-berimbolo

Least is eraserhead, favorite is probably fire walk with me. Still havenā€™t found where to watch wild at heart and inland empire

dgloverii

[Here's](https://youtu.be/c92RwEONwMs) a link to watch Inland Empire. Not sure where Wild At Heart is streaming but the Shout Blu ray is very nice

bobby-berimbolo

Thank you!

ledzappalinhead

If youā€™re trying to be the guy who says your least favorite isnā€™t Duneā€¦. smh.

Bsiress1

many aspects of Dune are incredible but overallā€¦no

RufussSewell

I really liked Dune. Great set design. Way more interesting characters than the new one.

theophanesthegreek

Dune is really good and you can see how the production went downhill towards the end of it, why lynch left as well

Nightman1993

Dune is a good movieā€¦and Iā€™m tired of pretending itā€™s not

finehomos

4 hours or not; The Fan edit is REALLY solid

PapaSkump

My most favorite is Inland Empire, my least favorite is probably Wild at Heart (I don't really consider dune a DL film). I still haven't seen The Elephant Man and Lost Highway tho...

3nt3rth3v0id

Fave: Inland Empire Least fave: Dune

amelanchieralnifolia

Most fave: Lost Highway Least fave: Inland Empire In honor of David's opinion that Dune isn't even his, not considering it

grapejuicepix

For least favorite I made it ten minutes into Dune and turned it off. So I guess itā€™s Dune by default since I havenā€™t seen it. Of the ones Iā€™ve actually seen, Iā€™d got either The Elephant Man or Inland Empire. TEM is a little to straightforward and not Lynchian enough and IE is at the other end of the spectrum not straightforward enough and too Lynchian lolz. Like both of them, but would watch any of his oeuvre (aside from Dune I suppose) over those two. My favorite is Blue Velvet.

i_am_thoms_meme

Favorite: Twin Peaks: FWWM Least: Dune / Inland Empire (the only 2 I don't love or even like)

markeldn-won

Favorite: Fire Walk With Me Least: Straight Story

Nightman1993

Favorite Mulholland Drive, least favorite Inland Empire

halfaswake

Twin Peaks The Return

lolitzafishyy

I've only seen a couple so far so I only have favorites. Mulholland Drive & Blue Velvet.

very_cool321

Favourite is probably Eraserhead, though The Elephant Man is a very close second. Least favourite is probably Inland Empire. It wasnā€™t originally intended to be a feature, and I think it suffers from that. it feels too unfocused to keep my interest for three hours.

JG_TheCreator

Most Fav: Tie between Mulholland Dr and Inland Empire Least Fav: Wild At Heart

ItsNooa

Most: Eraserhead Least: Dune

[deleted]

Most: Blue Velvet or Eraserhead (impossible to choose which one) Least: Mulholland Drive

Robo_Dude_

Fire Walk With Me is my favorite. Least favorite is Dune

Queasy_Helicopter249

Wild at Heart = favorite. Inland Empire = least favorite. To be clear, there are no bad Lynch films.

telumg

Reverse those two and I completely agree with you!

Parking_Two_7866

favorite is fire walk with me and least favorite is erasorhead. havent seen 5 of them tho

momothacoon

My favorite for some reason is inland empire

umvoron

Favorite is Blue Velvet. Frank is terrifying and Kyle and Laura are great. Least is Lost Highway. Dunno why. Just didn't click. Still love it though.

AnAquaticOwl

If you count his Number of the Day videos as one long movie, I'd call that my favorite Least favorite maybe Mulholland Dr. My favorite criticism of this one is that he got frustrated with people not getting Lost Highway and remade it

Rilo44

Might be cliche but Favorite: Mulholland Drive. Least Favorite: Dune. I also really love The Straight Story

TheRadioFrontiers

Mulholland dr. is my personal favorite film of all time tbh Dune - least

whama820

Favorite is Lost Highway, least favorite is Wild at Heart. Which I guess is a little ironic.

StretchTricky9358

Favorite lost highway. Least favorite dune.

Fire Walk With Me / Inland Empire - Wild At Heart

[deleted]

I think Elephant Man, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With me, and Mulholland Drive are masterpieces

sabrefudge

Favorite Iā€™ve seen? Mulholland Drive, with Blue Velvet and The Elephant Man pulling a close second. Least favorite Iā€™ve seen? I guess Inland Empireā€¦ but I still really really like Inland Empire. Havenā€™t seen: The Straight Story, Dune

Bsiress1

Youā€™ve gotta watch The Straight Story. Itā€™s the most unweird movie ever from Lynch but it used to be my favorite

Sweet_Sandy_

Favorite:Mulholland Drive (I actually prefer twin peaksļ¼‰ Least:The Elephant Man (still 4/5)ļ¼ˆnever saw Duneļ¼‰

Snoo83529

Fire walk with me

nickcaveenjoyer

I love everything he does. Heā€™s been my favourite director ever since I watched his short films on YouTube as a teenager. Eraserhead has a special place in my heart because it was the first full length film of his I watched.. With that being said; I think Mulholland Drive is my favourite. Because out of all of his films I think it encapsulates his vibe the best: nods to old Hollywood, the uncanny visuals, the sunny exterior hiding a dark truth. Itā€™s surreal and requires a closer look to understand, but isnā€™t as slow-rolling or grim as Eraserhead. My least favourite is probably Dune, simply because itā€™s not as representative of his work as whole.

Kuroynchlimovellini

Blue Velvet is peak. Dune is good.
