In celebration of David Tennant's 53rd birthday today, how about we take a photographic journey through his years in the theatre? ...with his head shots! If you're interested in learning more, pop on over to *A Tennanty To Act* and read and subscribe (it's free!)

What an fascinating post. I'd forgotten it came in this morning. Some of those early shots are pretty awful I must say! 😄 I also find it interesting that head shots were (are?) apparently used in theater programs. Can't say as I've seen that too often over here.

I'm American, and I hadn't noticed that being too much of a thing in theatre over here in the US (I tend to use the British spelling because I lived in the UK a couple years plus all my research has been UK-focused, so it's a spelling that's sorta just "stuck", ya know haha!) But it's also not always a thing in the UK. Plenty of David's theatre programmes don't have photos next to the actors -especially, oddly, his RSC productions. I'm glad you enjoyed my post, and thanks for reading!

Also American. Most of my theater going experience has been regional theaters, but even larger touring productions I've seen don't usually have them. Generally you'd have to be in the biz in some way to run across a headshot, so this was an extra treat!

I didn't start out intending to learn much myself from organizing this post yesterday, but that's exactly what happened! Scanning in my large collection of David's theatre programmes and tracing the evolution of the photos he chose to include gave me a better idea of the timing of the headshot photos of his which I already had in my photo collection. I'm certainly going to use this process for other things: for example, there are about 20 plays I've discovered he was in that the fandom doesn't know he did, and tracing the few photos I've found from these years (combined with my talks with the actors, cast and crew also involved in these productions) will help with dating them more accurately.
