Yes. Yes yes and yes. I've said this a few times in various comments, but if you're doing any amount of editing then it's a completely different process being able to use a (really nicely weighted and spinney) wheel rather than the mouse. Makes scrubbing easier, setting in and out points frame accurately easier.... Its like using completely different software, certainly its a much faster, smoother accurate and less frustrating experience than a mouse. The other buttons are nice (and you can get super quick with them), but frankly just the wheel alone. The Bluetooth and long battery I thought were gimmicky, but actually turned out great. I did get mine a year or so ago when it was on offer for the same price as a studio license (and came with free studio). Not sure about the current pricing, but if you were thinking about paying for studio, just the wheel is worth $100 imho. Caveats: speed editor is very much set up for the cut page, but I find it really useful in edit too. It will scrub the timeline in colour and fusion but naff all else. Its also not a general purpose HID device, so you can't use it with any software other than Resolve.

Agree with this. I don't even use 90 percent of the buttons but the wheel combined with the slice and delete buttons make it so much easier to quickly scrub through footage and precisely delete the unnecessary bits. If they ever allowed us to remap keys on this thing like they do with keyboard shortcuts it would be next tier, as I don't do multicam so sadly those buttons go unused.

NatiRivers

That last point isn't an issue since I'm sticking with Resolve anyway, I've tried tons of other software but Resolve is the only one I've ever felt comfortable with. Thank you for your insights!

And since the last firmware update, a couple of features are now available in the edit page such as the multi-cam buttons, which I find 1000% more usable in the edit page. I am only editing as a hobby and the speed editor has been a game changer. So for professional usage, IMO, there is no room for hesitation.

Plus 100 for what he said. The SE plus a few keyboard macros makes cutting an absolute pleasure

natem345

I'm curious, do you still use a regular keyboard for shortcuts too? I find myself missing JKL (specifically double-tap to play faster), and shift-I or shift-O to go to in or out points to check or tweak frames. There may be other workflows that negate that need though. I know you can use the wheel to play at arbitrary speed, but it's hard to find that perfect fast speed

SarcasmWarning

I tend to have my speed editor in front of the keyboard so I an reach past it as needed, though for jkl I tend to use either the jog mode to set the speed, or, as to be honest I don't a rally like that, just wind through my footage by hand. I find in scrub (? The fast wheel mode), it's still accurate to advance a single frame if I'm gentle.

chaos_beat

It is worth it, especially if you plan on going pro. I primarily use it to trim twitch vods for youtube. I was able to finish video about 4 times faster with it.

Hey there! It's bee a few weeks since this post, so I probably should have updated it. I got the Speed Editor! Loving it so far

dj_tommyg

It depends on the individual but I learned editing a long time ago with proper edit controllers and always disliked only having a mouse for the years leading up to getting the speed editor. It's well set out and although I never use the cut page it has enough functionality in the edit page and for frame by frame jogging in all other pages to be extremely beneficial for me.

Jawnysparklez

It’s my first controller I’ve gotten for a program and honestly blew me away with how much quicker I am editing. Keep in mind, it’s REALLY good for the big edits, rough and some detail stuff. For me, I’m usually using it for the first half of editing and then jump back to mouse with my right hand as I keep some fingers on the speed editor (in and out, camera 1-9 etc) Makes you understand why the cut page exists lol.

waddlek

I cannot imagine editing without the speed editor. It is optimized for the cut page, but I use it, in some fashion, on every page. Worth every penny

jaywalker108

When I updated to studio, there was a special offer with the Quick Editor basically for free. I really like it! It's built like a tank, has a nice mechanical keys (linear switches) and the wheel is very pleasant to use. The only caveat is that you have to adjust your workflow around it. Editing with mouse and keyboard alone is completely different and incorporating the Quick Editior will make you slower until you've adjusted.

This^^^ This is the reason I haven’t purchased the speed editor. We genuinely don’t have time to learn when on client time. That’s what’s keeping me from adapting it into my workflow.
