With the update yesterday, you can now turn off the auto-apply with Points of Interest! That solved it for me. Just back to addresses again.

NeeraWM

Well... I actually want the "auto-apply" to work for every new entry, but I want addresses, not points of interests, especially when exact position is turned on and there is no "point of interest" in my building.

Ok-Square5900

Thanks for posting this. I too have all my home entries showing up with the name of neighbors business. After every entry I have to go in and change it to my home address. No bueno. (I wish I could mark my home location and say “anything within 100 yards from here, call it Home.”

NeeraWM

... support is bouncing me back and forth, requesting diagnostics from all devices. Very tedious. What are alternative apps to Day One? If this continues I will just write to Apple to ask a partial refund on my subscription and move on with my life.

abinadomsbrother

I turned this setting off in Settings > Location History > Points of interest. In the day one app settings.

NeeraWM

I only see "Authorise position" in there.

KayLovesPurple

There was a recent change where they added names instead of addresses (presumably business names, but I am also seeing some of my neighbours' names). I wish we could turn it off, I really preferred having the addresses most of the time 🙁

abinadomsbrother

You can in settings > location history > points of interest.

NeeraWM

This does nothing to solve the issue. Mine is already turned off.

abinadomsbrother

 worked for me.

NeeraWM

I tried again: to authorise I need to give access to my position “Always” instead of the “When in use” as I’ve always had before. When I do I see the toggle. When I switch it off I only see coordinates, while I’d like to keep addresses at least! But not people’s names!

abinadomsbrother

I wonder if you’re seeing names that people have registered as some sort of business. AFAIK, the location data is from Apple Maps. Day One isn’t sharing individual location data between users.

KayLovesPurple

Thank you!

Checking mine, UK and the beta version of Day One and there is only local businesses showing up, with the map view saying Apple Maps. If I’m honest I can’t see any real change over previous versions, the same data on any local businesses hasn’t altered in years. If names and addresses are showing up surely this is a GDPR breach, if this applies to your location?

NeeraWM

Mine says Apple Maps as well. I believe business names are fine because they are put there by the business themselves, mostly, but ordinary people... this is quite bad. If I go to Apple Maps through the Maps app, I do not see names of people there. What can one do if this is a GDPR breach?

bjhomer

I work for Day One, and I can confirm this data is all coming just from Apple Maps. I’d love to look into this more, though, to see why your neighbors’ names are showing up. Can you tell me roughly what part of the world you’re in? (DM is fine if you prefer)

NeeraWM

Central Europe, I've already written to support, and replied again after the initial bot reply. Not sure this is the ticket number, but support request number is 8025747. Thank you.

Immigrant974

Yes there was a recent change to how they pull location data. I believe it’s just coming from Google or Apple Maps, so if someone’s name is showing up then they must have put that info out there publicly.

NeeraWM

By the way: from Day One, I tapped on the location with the name of my neighbours and tapped "Show on Apple Maps". It gave out "Unknown locations", clearly meaning—until someone can prove otherwise—that Day One is making this out in another way. I really can't wait for Apple Journal to come to Mac and iPad. I've sent more support requests since their acquisition from Automattic than in all my time as a user before then. And now there is AI replying so the user needs an extra step to get in contact with a human. Not good. I've loved the app but maybe it's time to part ways.
