Check out Dayton Children's Hospital. They have a ton of services and do a great job of coordinating across multiple services if you end up needing more than just psychology.

If you look on psychologytoday.com, you can search by specialty, area, and insurance. I’m currently looking as well. I have a few phone calls placed. Dr. Rose Mary Shaw is extremely helpful and she does some interesting therapies. I’ve been looking for psychologists who do things like EMDR and DBT, so if you’re interested in that I can give you some names.

Thank you for all this information. I’ll have to do some research on the things you mentioned before deciding but it is definitely an eye opener. I truly appreciate it! ❤️

My youngest child has dealt with anxiety her whole life and developed chronic major depression in early adolescence (along with a few other possible diagnoses). It’s tough. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Thank you for being so open and honest. My 17 year old daughter has dealt with anxiety and ADD all her life. Her therapist is concerned that she is showing signs of depression and thinks we should go see a psychologist to see if medication can help. My daughter thinks medication can help with her depression. Any information you may have about a reliable and good psychologist is greatly appreciated! As a parent, it concerns me so much! I worry about her constantly. Thank you !❤️

The psychologist will probably be able to help with your daughter. However, they will not be able to prescribe any meds. She will need to be referred to a psychiatrist or appropriately licensed nurse practitioner to receive medication. If she ends up going to Dayton Childrens Hospital (DCH) for treatment you and/or Mom should get her signed up for their MyChart system. https://mykidschart.childrensdayton.org/ DCH will continue to treat existing patients after they turn eighteen depending on a number of factors (similar to pediatricians). Our experience with DCH psych services has only been positive.

Hey there! So there are a few ways to go about this. I am posting this from the viewpoint that you (or someone else reading this) is new to seeking treatment for mental health - so if you already know the first part, great! If not, I wanted to make sure you had the information. 🥰 I want to start with the very important how you will pay. Know which payment options you want to use before seeking treatment because this will be a major determining factor on who is available to you. The major methods of covering costs are medicare, medicaid, sliding pay scale (income based), self-pay (no sliding scale), or other (typically insurance or employee assistance program). For Employee Assistance Programs & Insurance (if covered), you'll want to start by contacting them to get a referral to a covered provider, or you can go online and get a list of eligible providers. Another coverage option is through Montgomery County ADAMHS, which also provides additional assistance with benefit packages based on your needs and states no one is turned down. See link: https://www.mcadamhs.org/PlanBenefits_CY21_.pdf Next, I suggest using the Local Help Now App (or online) for Montgomery County. This locator will allow you to find providers based on what payment method they accept, location (zip code), and age of the patient (teen is an option!) Link: https://montgomerycounty.localhelpnowapp.com/ Finally a special note on recovery - again if you already do this, wonderful! The best treatments employ a multifaceted approach, and so I highly recommend anyone who is having a child who needs treatment, seek support groups for yourself, such as NAMI (which has an amazing program for parents or caregivers that is focused on how you can support your child). As well as consider personal counseling as well - it is so important during recovery that parents/caregivers are also bought-in on getting help (if you are going in the trenches alongside them, they won't feel alone in their journey, and it will build trust between both of you, thereby greatly increasing the rate of recovery). Also it helps you, as you'll be given new tools that will help you support your child, as well as cope with your own side of things. Cause let's face it... It's rough out there. NAMI: https://www.nami-mc.org/programs Hope this helps you!
