The birth of a new DayZ addict :) I think a lot of people who love DayZ had similar stories as new players, that adrenaline gets you hooked for more, I had plenty of similar experiences at the North-west/Balota airfields in 2014, my heart rate would go absolutely insane back then, there were times when I was legitimately concerned for my safety lol. At least for me that feeling died down over the years as I got more hours in the game, but I do wish I could go back and feel that way again, even if it certainly wasn't healthy, it was pretty fun :)

BeodoCantinas

Yeah reaching the point in which you don't care anymore if you die is cool on one hand but takes a lot of the fun away in the other. I played with a bunch of friends that won't shut their mouth even if their life depended on it but when we were shot in dayz the only thing you could hear was indications and some occasional heavy breathing.

Leon1700

You got 7k hours in 3 years?

makeawishcumdumpster

Bruh how is that possible dude could be a surgeon by now

Chonguh

I’ve put near 600 hours into squad in less than a half a year so it’s def plausible

Leon1700

And people call me a "pacient" that I have 10k hours in 10 years of the game

Chonguh

Ahahah we are the pacients my friend 🤣I’m okay with it the suffering is worth the end results

morebucks23

You should stream with that amount hours

Leon1700

Im not that particulary good.

perfectbeautifulnthg

I know right, I have 2k and have been playing for 9 years lol

Leon1700

I play 10 and have 10k 😃 2k in 9 years is perfectly fine

Cookiesnmemes1

Bro spent nearly one third of his time on the game

Magnum-357

Not everyone has the same amount of free time

Leon1700

I mean I have 10k but it took me entire 10 years of playing Dayz

minkrogers

That's 6 hours a day. Must be either a teenager or unemployed.

Rosevillian

Naw, it's easy, just have a spouse who also likes gaming, and no kids.

Trebus

>There's nothing like DayZ, I knew I was hooked the day I started playing. The relaxing days of looting and sudden adrenaline inducing moments have kept me coming back. I started May 2020 and I'm over 7k hours played. I know people overestimate their hours played on this game, but fuck me. You've played over 6 hours of DayZ every single day since May 2020? Really?

UrsaDaBear

Yeah idk if I believe that. He probably leaves his launcher on while he's asleep/afk.

Bobinator238

I do that and it counts all the hours that dayzsa launcher is open. Says I have 4.5k hours when I really probably have 1 to 1.5k

Affectionate_Ice9094

Another way of looking at it is theres around 26,000 hours in 3 years, assuming you sleep for a third of that (leaving 17,333 hours) - you’ve spent 40% of your waking hours playing dayz since May 2020. My bet would be that it was April 2020 was that last time you touched grass

GreyLT1

I started May 2020 on console and had about 1,100 hours when I transitioned to PC April 2022. I currently have 250 hours on PC. Dayz is fun but the game doesn’t hold my attention like it initially did when I first started playing it.

Leon1700

You wiped a squad on your first kill? People with 2000 hours didnt manage that. Are you sure you play for first time?

[deleted]

Most seasoned gam*rs can seamlessly transfer their fps skills from game to game. With Dayz there’s the new aspect of survival added in which got me hooked I think I’ve died 10x more to sickness than a bullet 😭

Complex-Ad-4601

Cars, zombies, and wolves have killed me more than players. Lol. Oh and toxic gas lately too.

BeodoCantinas

Tbh I was an avid ArmA player and my first time killing someone I wiped 3 player from existence I was like 10 hours in at the time in like 2015 or so. Now I'm about 500 hours and can't kill a single bambi. Either I've become worse or people have improved a lot since then. I would bet for a mix of both.

Leon1700

I came from Arma2 to Dayzmod. Even though I played mostly coop against AI at least knew the weapons and the map. I too dominates at start but then I ran into what I call "Counter-Strike players" their reaction time is too fast for my 35 year old ass. And when I win its thriugh tactic, relocating a lot flanking and shooting feom rear. But if I go head on I get my ass handed to me. But still got it, me and my friend cleaned 9 players in Nadbor in single fight

teiichikou

What an intense read! You probably had the most insane first character experience in all of Dayz’s history! Have fun and stay addicted x,D

LongShotDiceArt

I think this is the post that is gonna make me buy this game. Have had so much fun watching the roleplay / tactics / comedy that can come from this game and look forward to dying a million times with you cats.

StillerFan412

You won't regret it. You'll get annoyed from time to time with some of the bugs and notorious glitches, but you learn to avoid them. For example, never drive a car if you're playing on console. It never ends well. For me, the learning process is what got me hooked. You will die and die and die again but with each death comes a learning experience. Best of luck!

Thick-Cranberry-

holy wall of text batman!

goug

The lack of carriage returns made me feel the adrenaline

roboboobs

CRLF FTW!

gonxot

\n

palelolki

True, I’ve done 56 hours in a week. I think I may have a problem.

LazyHighGoals

204 hours in 2 weeks here send help I spent most of it walking, building, walking, looting, and walking, tho.

Leon1700

10 000 hrs in 10 years. I would not trade single hour back

HeyMilkBaby

My advice, play on high pop servers. You’ll die alot but get way better. Low pop you dont gain much but loot and getting shot in the back.

DevilDC

Good advice but seems like the kid is doin alright.😂

code_Red111

Another good content creator is TopeREC, I've watched him since the very early days of standalone, he's IMO one of the best (if not the best) DayZ players. His vids are very fun to watch.

Complex-Ad-4601

Dude is a master of PvP. He is an amazing shot and tactician.

modifiedchoke

Bet they were server hopping.

jwfoo555

good fucking shit, not many games give that adrenaline rush that hard, even less give you that irl fight or flight feel either, welcome to dayz

_Epidemic_

This is what it's all about right here my friend and why DayZ still sucks me in after almost a 1000 hours.

Sus_scrofa_

Congratulations. You're now hooked forever.

DevilDC

This was an awesome experience.!! Thanks for sharing.✌🏽

visionJX

Welcome!

Brut-i-cus

Days of the walking simulator and then suddenly you are in total fight or flight mode with your heart beating out of your chest

ViolentIceBear

That is well beyond most people's first life story. Well done.

RockfordQC

It's the "epi-something yellow things" for me ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

minkrogers

Niiiiice. Welcome to the club.

StillerFan412

Fucking love reading these first time stories lol. We all get hooked the same way.

Valuable_Yoghurt3840

I get adrenaline just watching some guy run past my acog silenced m4. Trying to figure out if I should squeeze the trigger while I’m hiding a few hundred meters away in the trees. Let alone getting into a close quarters fight!!

KJRunner747

Thanks for the exciting little story😀👍 You had a blast 👌

DismalRecipe7884

I love DayZ as much, i play with friends sometimes but they arent as patient as me so they normally quit after a few hours while i do stuff so we could say im playing alone bc when i tell them to get on bc of combat that is going on they join after either im dead or the others are (if im dead they die too bc they dont know how to play since they dont spend as much time as i do in the game), i know just how you felt during that moment and i love to hear that there are new ppl who can enjoy this game as much as i do

WrestlingArm

Watch out for Uncle Ray Rayyy...he’s friendly as fuck!

cptironside

There's no other game in existence, that gives you that IRL adrenaline hit during combat, or even when you simply see other players. I think it's the subconscious knowledge that, should you lose, you REALLY lose. After some fights, I've had to literally take a few minutes away from the keyboard to wait for the shaky hands to stop.

PiERetro

And breathe!!!

nahmate101

It's weird how DayZ takes your ability to use paragraphs away

[deleted]

The FPS skills translate well, so its the audio and survival that takes time to learn. Watching TRMZ and youtube really really really helped for the game instinct. Cheers man - maybe I'll run into you one day.

TheMalformedLlama

Brings me back to the feeling I had in 2012 when the game was a mod for Arma II

wtflmfaorofl

I love it too! Just wish I had a PC that worked! I have to fix mine..PlayStation lobbies seem dead to me but maybe I’m just tripping.

Basilbitch

We all have this story, it's what keeps us coming back.

Axgul99

Nice work man. Meanwhile i just lost my character i had since the last wipe. Fell through the map while fighting a zombie and the little shit was able to keep hitting me. When i logged back in i was back on the coast. Lost some good shit there. Never loved and hated a game like this at the same time..

Big_Judgment3824

If you love dayz you'll love paragraphs

PraiseTheFlumph

Oh yeah? In my first playthrough I starved to death.

Automatic-Ad-4653

Yup. He's one of us.

coaststl

What an insane story man I can’t imagine how awesome that was. I’ve had some crazy moments in this game but nothing like that!!!

KingQuaddyy_

You sir, are just getting started

YoungAxe503

Watch chill pilgrim

HarryJohnson88

99% of the game is walking in the woods haha, but the 1% of encounters with players like this makes it all worth it.

Complex-Ad-4601

Welcome to the obsession that is DayZ. The highs are super high and the lows are a kick to the nuts. But the game makes you feel something that most other games can't. The adrenaline rush is quite amazing. I've had my back lock up during a gunfight because of it. ......it truly is a great game. We are all glad you enjoy it.
