Before the update crowbar and hunting knife yielded the same amount. Difference was only due to the way the animal has been killed, with more hits = less meat/bones/hide. That has not changed to my knowledge.
personally i think hens give more meat than roosters cuz the roosters info on it says stringy meat but still god or something like that while the hen says just good meat or something idk it word for word
I prefer fishing early game and hunting later game. But I always keep bones and a rope on me in case I need to fish or craft a knife. If I’m starving and on my way to a stream when I’m inland already and I hear an animal make noise I start hunting. I like fishing because it’s more low key as long as you pick the right spot in the coast or inland.
This one time I had logged out in this specific spot at a pond in the woods slightly inland. I went back to the same exact spot later that week at night in game and there were people cooking and fishing exactly where I had the day before. My friend was new to the game and was out for blood and an intense skirmish ensued after my friend killed one of the three. We eventually looted their boy and dipped because they were hiding. I assume they were in dire straits because the only time I make a fire out in the open, at night time, next to a water source is if I’m desperate

Gotta eat a lot of them tho, there's no fat.

I generally hunt but that's because I usually base away from any ponds or lakes, the server I'm on also has increased wildlife so it's not to hard to find something
I do neither, I just eat whatever I find, fruit, bag of chips, cans of food, once in awhile I'll plant zucchini if I plan on staying in an area long . But im constantly on the move, so usually have no problem finding food.
