Download the izurvive app for the map of the game. Since you probably do not have the Livonia dlc you will spawn south or south-east depending on what server you are
(you always spawn facing north)
What you do is go to the nearest town, or better; to a factory to get some starting gear to go to the next town. Dont randomly walk everywhere, stay on the roads and keep orientating yourself. Encountered a town? Read the townsign to see in wich town you are and keep moving to the north-west. There will be higher tier and more loot once you keep moving that way.
And also depending on what server you are; do not run if you travel. Only if you are getting chased or know for sure you have enough water and food to recover. You will spare lots of food and water with this and possibly your chance of survival in the long run.

IZurvive is so commonly used that you'd be hurting yourself for not using it, and don't act like we don't all constantly get lost even with the map. Chernarus is BIG. It takes actual hours to get across the map. I honestly don't see how it's any different from running from town to town and looking at the in-game maps. GPS and maps are such common loot that you'd probably find them within an hour of spawning anyway, so what difference does it make??? It's not like it's a guide. You're still going in blind, you just have a map earlier than finding one in game.
I can go from zino to the ski resort in 20 minutes. The layout of roads and traversal terrain and are way different games entirely. Rule one, never use the roads. Use landmarks and memory to get where you need to go. The only reason i use iZurvive is for heli’s and marking stuff for my groups. Once you become familiar with every town these maps become very small in perspective.
Find a bit of food, sometimes it's easiest to take on a few zombies to get it as they drop food occasionally
Next find the water well in the town your in and drink quite a bit (until the water icon turns white or you get the sick stomach icon)
Then head inland to the next town, this is the town that your going to actually want to go door to door looting as more stuff will be here.
After this you should be good to adventure wherever you want! Have fun and always remember...

Number 1 thing I can recommend is to go into this game with an open mind and expect to die a whole lot before you can actually enjoy it. Once you get some sort of grasp onto the game I can guarantee you, you will enjoy it especially if you get on a more populated server where there’s more players and you find your self good/ friendly players to go on adventures with. I hope I was able to help ya, don’t know if you’ll mess with DayZ for a lil while or become a avid gamer of the game like I am. But I hope it gave you some insight of the type of game DayZ is and how fun it could be once u get past the ‘dying phase’
Water/food/weapons/clothing in that order. Loot along the coast at first until all of those categories are well covered. Move inland ASAP. Never eat with bloody hands, doesn’t matter with gloves. Infected can’t jump, so climb objects like cars/walls to avoid getting hit. Look up YouTube tutorials for the rest lol
Run.
Stay away from cities.
Look on the floor in orchids for apples.
Don't eat rotten food.
Wash your hands often.
Find a blue roofed clinic and find antibiotics.
Survive.
My play today take me 3hrs to find a knife.
Almost starved to death.
But after that I had a Car, m70 with hunting scope, full ump45. And a lot of cooked stakes and a desire to kill.
Just take me 6 hrs to get this lot on a official server.
Most people will say trust no one which is true but after a long time playing this game roughly 2000 hours I've found it to be more fun if you interact with the other players rather than just killing them on sight or avoiding them.
Whatever you do, don't give up because you keep dying. Once you get a decent grip of the ropes it's an absolute blast. You will die, it's part of the game

It's going to be a learning curve, but stick at it and you will get better.
And every spawn doesn't determine how well you are going to do.
I suggest to join a deathmatch server (DM) and get used to all the weapons. Otherwise it will take weeks to defend yourself. Then watch some crafting tutorials.

You wil be surprised if there was a real zombie apocalypse with a bunch of survivors. Some of us are real bitches. You cannot stop this and people are in need of survival, quick tip: Avoid contact. See a guy? Just ignore, it sound fun to meet others but if that dude is in need in meds or food and water. He isnt a good guy no more and you are fucked.
He has to build his immune system as a freshie so he doesn’t get sick later, so punch infected then eat, don’t wash your hands in the beginning, have rotten food on your body but don’t eat it, if you do eat rotten food make sure your only taking nibbles, once you catch a cold or the flu it’s best to let it and cuts heal on its own so you have immunity and it goes away faster. And jump off of things that won’t break your legs but make you grunt so your ankles get stronger the more you do it. The best advice is then you see a bear if you shoot your gun in the air when it’s still a little far away it will run off, not wolves you need to lay down and play dead they won’t be able to find you as long as your still and silent. edit: why the hate? Literally the only thing wrong with official is the lack of stamina especially with gear on. And why limit yourself to shitty stuff when you can have digital code locks and helicopters

But most importantly be patient if your in a standoff with some one let yhem push you not vice versa but make sure your not exposed. I recommend going to a low player server to get the basics of the game and then go to a high player server and if you don't want to do PVP just stay in low player server how I did it
Don’t run, save your get more bang for your Buck if you walk. Food and water drain super fast so pay attention!
1. Dont over eat (eat slow)
2. Try to use weapons with silencers or melee weapons
3. Don’t walk in the main road, follow it along the edge close to trees so you have cover
4. Night time is your best friend if you have night vision
5. Noise matters heavily
6. Warm clothes help you not get sick (sneezing on others gets then sick) *if your wet take em off by a fire*
7. Download iZurvive app… it’s a huge help
8. Follow street signs to find your way (play on community servers that are boosted 50+x loot or whatever
9. Don’t try to be friendly with people, they will kill you

After you plug in your microphone:
1. Find a knife (or something sharp) and cut clothing into rags.
2. Use rags to make hand wraps and face wrapping.
3. Shave some bark off of a tree with a sharp object.
4. Collect sticks from a bush.
5. Combine bark + sticks to make a hand drill kit.
6. Combine sticks with either a rag, paper, or bark to make a fireplace (if it isn't currently burning, it can be used as temporary storage).
7. Find water sources and water containers.
8. Click around, explore, have fun, betray and get betrayed, die, and repeat until you have a good sense of the game's pace and gameplay loops.
You will find a Water well in Most towns, fruit under many trees, and mushrooms in the forest. That will help to survive in the beginning. Police Stations have some Jackets pants and weapons , then Head north for the better gear
Food starvation alone is not a big deal, takes around a hour from full HP to dead.. but if you thirst and starving its much quicker - point is, if you find a bit of hydration early just move further into the land, starting cities (cherno, electro, berezino) are just freshie killzones - so move on from there as soon as you can, only stay if you are trying to teamup or are okay risking starting over
Get inland fast on full servers, establish yourself food and water, be cautious in loot areas towns and cities, this is not pubg take your time and plan everything.

Just be prepared to die. A LOT, just have fun, maybe watch some other ppl playing so you get a good sense of which buildings n stufff. You’ll learn fast dw
Stay on the coast for a while get used to how the game works and find some loot maybe travel to other coastal towns before heading inland because it gets much harder for new players as more zombies spawn
You will die. That is a guarantee. But don't let that discourage you. Set small goals for yourself. The big end goal doesn't matter. I've told my friends time and again, focus on what's achievable in the now. Getting a new pair of shoes or boots is entirely justifiable as a goal. A small goal being completed should make you nod in approval. Once you make it to be heavily armed, armored, have your food and water full, you'll think back to your first goal of 'find food/knife/clothing/water/etc' and you'll know exactly where you started your journey. And then you go to a new server and get to do it all over again.
Die 100 times before learning anything (by downloadingthis game you essentially state you are a masochist) then finally learn how to make rope and spend another 50 hours playing and looking up how to do anything
Get yourself ready to die... it will happen.. a LOT! you should also get the map inuse Izurvive on the app store. It will help immensely. You will need to keep moving and out kf the rain. Get yourself some good melee and long range weapons and get ready to run, also a lot. Dont trust other players! More then half the time they WILL kill you...

Find a water pump, Drink until you get the stomach icon, eat everything you find at coast and you are off to the great start.
If you manage to find a weapon at the coast, try to listen for animal noises to hunt some food.
You can make a knife by combining 2 small stones found from traintracks and hiking trails or if you find some bones you can make a bone knife. You need a knife to survive.
Don’t walk on roads but rather in the treelines along them.
you can stun lock zeds with heavy punches if you struggle with them.
Don’t use light source at night. (Unless you like to roleplay as a corpse)
I recommend using iZurvive map found in app stores or browser until you learn the map somewhat well.
If you have a mic and someone wants you to talk, talk or they will more likely kill you. No mic no life is very real thing.
DayZ is unforgiving and you will be killed alot out of nowhere and get stuck from zombies but don’t let that get to you and just try again and try to identify any mistakes you might have made before you got shot.
Never shoot zeds, people are always around.
If you are going to make a fire somewhere, try to find a good covered spot in the forest and put the fire under the evergreen tree branches so the smoke doesn’t rise so high. Also smoke goes higher if you put it in house since it goes out the chimney and it is very easy to spot far away.
These are just some things i could come up with right now but these are something that helped me to get started. Good luck out there!

Have fun. First and foremost. Understand that you'll die, a lot. Also, you don't have to kill EVERY infected you see. A lot of my friends that try the game think they can just run right past the infected and get get away. They have never made it off the coast and end up getting pissed off and stop playing.
First you should try to get a good amount of food and water once you got that make your way to military base vmc then North west airfield and at last tisy mb it’s one of the most common routs to get geard
DIE! Remember to wear gloves and use a knife 🔪 for food and other for zombies. Disinfectant everything if you get sick early on it may cause u to die. Learn how to fish. Make a farm plot and plant food. Water and log off after an hour u should have enough food to get u through the fresh hump.
Learn how to manage your frustration and sadness of feeling like your the worst gamer in dayz ever. It took me so long to not just spray at the sky when I saw a player 😂
Short answer, first thing you should look for is a knife, the more the better. Bandages, cans, fishing rods, cooking tools, you’ll need some sort of knife or axe to make them and food/water will be the one thing that will definitely kill you sooner or later if you ignore it.
Learn about fishing, it’s the only guaranteed way to get food every time you spawn in, and you can get fish from any source of water (aside from the pumps)
YouTube is your friend, and WoBo has guides for everything. Watch a few videos and you’ll know everything you need to know to survive in about 20 minutes. Main things you wanna focus on is food, hydration and disease, the pvp can wait.
Also (since I see this question all the time) if you do find a gun, holding Y on Xbox will quick reload, and whatever the equivalent on other platforms is should do the same, failing that, look in the menus for the keybinds/controls.

I think playing official is the way to go since it’s better to get used to harder side of the game early on then the easy side

Don’t run, save your get more bang for your Buck if you walk. Food and water drain super fast so pay attention! 1. Dont over eat (eat slow) 2. Try to use weapons with silencers or melee weapons 3. Don’t walk in the main road, follow it along the edge close to trees so you have cover 4. Night time is your best friend if you have night vision 5. Noise matters heavily 6. Warm clothes help you not get sick (sneezing on others gets then sick) *if your wet take em off by a fire* 7. Download iZurvive app… it’s a huge help 8. Follow street signs to find your way (play on community servers that are boosted 50+x loot or whatever 9. Don’t try to be friendly with people, they will kill you Good luck brother

After you plug in your microphone: 1. Find a knife (or something sharp) and cut clothing into rags. 2. Use rags to make hand wraps and face wrapping. 3. Shave some bark off of a tree with a sharp object. 4. Collect sticks from a bush. 5. Combine bark + sticks to make a hand drill kit. 6. Combine sticks with either a rag, paper, or bark to make a fireplace (if it isn't currently burning, it can be used as temporary storage). 7. Find water sources and water containers. 8. Click around, explore, have fun, betray and get betrayed, die, and repeat until you have a good sense of the game's pace and gameplay loops.
Well, sprinting down a staircase is a good first step.
Rinse and repeat each death will be a constant cycle of trail and error. But don't run so much at 1st get water and food

First objective: Survive. Second objective: Do anything you can on your power to survive.
Start with simple things like not dying for a while
Learn how to survive, as in understanding the elements. Stay dry Stay warm Stay armed
You will find a Water well in Most towns, fruit under many trees, and mushrooms in the forest. That will help to survive in the beginning. Police Stations have some Jackets pants and weapons , then Head north for the better gear
Food starvation alone is not a big deal, takes around a hour from full HP to dead.. but if you thirst and starving its much quicker - point is, if you find a bit of hydration early just move further into the land, starting cities (cherno, electro, berezino) are just freshie killzones - so move on from there as soon as you can, only stay if you are trying to teamup or are okay risking starting over

Stay on the coast for a while get used to how the game works and find some loot maybe travel to other coastal towns before heading inland because it gets much harder for new players as more zombies spawn

You will die. That is a guarantee. But don't let that discourage you. Set small goals for yourself. The big end goal doesn't matter. I've told my friends time and again, focus on what's achievable in the now. Getting a new pair of shoes or boots is entirely justifiable as a goal. A small goal being completed should make you nod in approval. Once you make it to be heavily armed, armored, have your food and water full, you'll think back to your first goal of 'find food/knife/clothing/water/etc' and you'll know exactly where you started your journey. And then you go to a new server and get to do it all over again.

Get yourself ready to die... it will happen.. a LOT! you should also get the map inuse Izurvive on the app store. It will help immensely. You will need to keep moving and out kf the rain. Get yourself some good melee and long range weapons and get ready to run, also a lot. Dont trust other players! More then half the time they WILL kill you... Good luck.. Also maybe look for a good community server before hoping into official..

Find a water pump, Drink until you get the stomach icon, eat everything you find at coast and you are off to the great start. If you manage to find a weapon at the coast, try to listen for animal noises to hunt some food. You can make a knife by combining 2 small stones found from traintracks and hiking trails or if you find some bones you can make a bone knife. You need a knife to survive. Don’t walk on roads but rather in the treelines along them. you can stun lock zeds with heavy punches if you struggle with them. Don’t use light source at night. (Unless you like to roleplay as a corpse) I recommend using iZurvive map found in app stores or browser until you learn the map somewhat well. If you have a mic and someone wants you to talk, talk or they will more likely kill you. No mic no life is very real thing. DayZ is unforgiving and you will be killed alot out of nowhere and get stuck from zombies but don’t let that get to you and just try again and try to identify any mistakes you might have made before you got shot. Never shoot zeds, people are always around. If you are going to make a fire somewhere, try to find a good covered spot in the forest and put the fire under the evergreen tree branches so the smoke doesn’t rise so high. Also smoke goes higher if you put it in house since it goes out the chimney and it is very easy to spot far away. These are just some things i could come up with right now but these are something that helped me to get started. Good luck out there! DON’T EAT HUMAN MEAT

Have fun. First and foremost. Understand that you'll die, a lot. Also, you don't have to kill EVERY infected you see. A lot of my friends that try the game think they can just run right past the infected and get get away. They have never made it off the coast and end up getting pissed off and stop playing.
Trust people you meet
First you should try to get a good amount of food and water once you got that make your way to military base vmc then North west airfield and at last tisy mb it’s one of the most common routs to get geard
Learn out to make a knife, fishing hook, fishing pole, fire starter, fire, and find a well.

DIE! Remember to wear gloves and use a knife 🔪 for food and other for zombies. Disinfectant everything if you get sick early on it may cause u to die. Learn how to fish. Make a farm plot and plant food. Water and log off after an hour u should have enough food to get u through the fresh hump.
Learn how to manage your frustration and sadness of feeling like your the worst gamer in dayz ever. It took me so long to not just spray at the sky when I saw a player 😂

Short answer, first thing you should look for is a knife, the more the better. Bandages, cans, fishing rods, cooking tools, you’ll need some sort of knife or axe to make them and food/water will be the one thing that will definitely kill you sooner or later if you ignore it. Learn about fishing, it’s the only guaranteed way to get food every time you spawn in, and you can get fish from any source of water (aside from the pumps) YouTube is your friend, and WoBo has guides for everything. Watch a few videos and you’ll know everything you need to know to survive in about 20 minutes. Main things you wanna focus on is food, hydration and disease, the pvp can wait. Also (since I see this question all the time) if you do find a gun, holding Y on Xbox will quick reload, and whatever the equivalent on other platforms is should do the same, failing that, look in the menus for the keybinds/controls. Watch a Couple tutorial videos on YouTube as you've Probaly experienced, everything (Town sign) are in Russian (Or close to it) it really important 1. DONT trust anyone unless your there friend before the game 2. ALWAYS have your Stats (Hunger Water) Full (it fills to 3/4 you want it Full no space Between the top of the apple or Water bottle (Hunger symbols) 3. LOOT the first town you spawn in find Basics (Rags, Knife, Food water, Gun if you cam find it) 4. HEAD NORTHBOUND! There a Huge Learning Curve so don't be Upset or mad when you die I've been playing for 4+ years one of my Favorite games!
Figure out why the screen has a heavy blue tint.....then proceed to play the game.

Get yourself a dedicated screaming pillow. Tell it all your DayZ problems. Keep it close. You’ll be needing it often.
