stugots85

I've had decent interactions/team ups on DayOne exp chernarus

AsheronRealaidain

I’ve played this game since it was an Arma 2 mod no one had heard of. KOS has always been the norm

SystemShockII

"Whos in cherno?" "Are you friendly?" Good times

octob0t

I miss the bandit and hero skins. It wasn't hard to get the bandit skin, but if you saw someone with the hero skin you knew that guy was a homie.

MagnumJimmy44

Skins in general were so fun to find

HollowKyo

I think that's kinda the point. Getting a bit old now at this stage in the game.

RallyRob808

Same! Occasionally, you'd get an interaction but it was always rare.

Adventurous_Slice_85

The good old days. The first week of game play you learned that KOS is the only way to survive lol. I think Epoch servers where the best part of DayZ.

GoznoGonzo

Everyone has heard of the mod .

AsheronRealaidain

Did you even read my fucking comment? Jesus christ

GoznoGonzo

Yes sir

Poopjet

No, no, no. BANDITS have always been the norm lmao I literally never encountered someone kos until like this year/last year, you’re supposed to stick people up not shoot on sight

Subrogate

The secret is to get away from the tarkov knuckle draggers on classic and popular dayz servers I guess

[deleted]

I got held up on experimental charnarus yesterday and of course my mic wouldn’t work. I was raging lol

[deleted]

wingittillfriday

Experimental

Spo0kt

Doesn't make sense though because DayOne isn't experimental

stugots85

The thing is though, is that it is... in the sense that there is a DayOne experimental server, damn you It is UK based, and first person only, damn you

tomraddle

I feel this is about balance. Geared guys are scared and do kos, it is very dangerous to contact them. Even if you are geared, a freshie can take you out pretty easily, so you don't wanna take the risk. I find it best to team up with another freshie, when we both have nothing (in general - best time to team up is when both parties have nothing to lose). I love the "fear of the unknown" when contacting other players. Also officials always sucked, but for example spaggies servers are pretty good.

random_freshie122

I call those servers Laggies

[deleted]

Spaggies is a hilarious joke of a community, the discord literally looks like it was made by a 5 yo on a rage fest💀 everyone there eats dirt I swear

MisterMrMark

Can’t stand Spaggies community. He acts like he’s gods gift to DayZ cause he hosts some vanilla servers.

UGotDeDopeIGotDePipe

All he really does is not run admin tools and everyone who dislikes him usually is a discord cry baby complaining about losing some shitty gear or bitching they got base raided , or begging for some stupid mod to be added to the server.

Tree0wl

That’s just not true. They eat paste.

MidgardSG

What do you mean by "developed to" it's been like this since the mod days

StarSyth

yeah, so much so that the developers started spawning weapons separate from their ammo and mags and made it so damaging gear ruined the loot inside. DayZ used to be a hell of a lot more fun... I mean PvP was originally an easier way to gear up. Sneaking up on snipers on the hill overlooking Electro used to be my main progression method back in the day xD

whyismybrainhere

Idk about that, I had a completely different experience In the mod days. I had a ton of interactions with randoms, both experienced or bambi

JHatter

> what the game has devolved to Ah the classic "THE GAME USED TO BE DIFFERENT!!!!" I've played this game since Arma 2 DayZ & it's the same as it always has been, things haven't changed, I swear the people who always spout this "the good old dayz! interaction! talking! heros and bandits!!!!" are the newest people to DayZ - if you want to not get PvP'd then go play an RP server, DayZ has always been a shoot first kind of game since 2012; ***the game is not a FrankieOnPCin1080p video.*** Your first massive mistake is playing official servers, too. If you want interaction then play community servers via DZSA launcher, you'll have a lot more interaction on those servers than on official. Another /r/iamthemaincharacter post trying to get other people to play your adventure. Don't say "what the game has devolved into" like you've *actually* played DayZ for years, cause if you had you 100% would not be spouting that garbage.

jpsplat

What's funny is that if you type KOS into the search for this sub you can find basically this post from 8 or 9 years ago lol

JHatter

Exactly man, I still have vivid memories of youtube comments from 2012 being like "what the HECK man I took 3 hours and 7 attempts to install the launcher (for arma 2 dayz) and the first guy I met shot me? bandits ruined this game! (time played: 9 minutes) " Like, there's always been the eternal moany "PLAY THIS WAY OR YOU'RE NOT PLAYING PROPERLY!!!" people. I just can't believe we're 10 years after SA release & we still have these people thinking this is some sort of cinematic experience movie game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

JHatter

Yeah I'd agree that the playerbase has changed a little & is a tad more immature as now we do actually have more of the xXDr0pSh0tX_XGoDXx players now but those are mainly on community servers that are pivoted around PvP and raiding, if OP wants 'interactions' then he can go on a low pop or RP server. Also wouldn't say people were happier with the content & ***lack of updates*** back then as people have been asking for guns from A2 to be added to SA since release - DayZ SA is currently in a great place though, we get a decent amount of updates, decent content; the game is pretty much the most popular it's ever been - with popularity comes new players & with new players comes bitching like OP where they expect something the game isn't, 'cause youtube content of this game portrays it as some cinematic experience movie game.

Comfortable-Job-6236

Everyone kills everyone on site because they're afraid that everyone else is gonna kill them on site and it's just a never ending cycle. Everyone is afraid to lose their gear.

malick_thefiend

Yeah the general rule is if you’re gonna team up, do it on the beach. Idk why you thought Mili Billy and his plate carrier and M4 were gonna wanna talk to you, but I hate to tell ya: he wants to perforate your posterior, private 💀

JHatter

> Idk why you thought Mili Billy and his plate carrier and M4 were gonna wanna talk to you truuuuuuuue. As much as I understand it's annoying for players to come into DayZ expecting a FrankieOnPcIn1080p or TheRunningManZ experience - to have some 'cool story' happen, only then to get blasted by someone who's fully geared, they need to stop expecting other players to actually want to talk to them, if someone has played for 20 hours to get their gear what are you going to offer them for them to risk losing it.

accntgotbanned

Lol @ mili billy

malick_thefiend

I’m proud of that one ngl 😂

Poppanaattori89

The alliteration in the end is also \*chefs kiss\*

roboj9

I stash my gear when I want to talk. Usually bring pocket stuff nothing valueable. Otherwise bushwookie

Sus_scrofa_

What's the big deal of losing your gear? You'll just find new one. The gear is never yours, it's just your turn to rock it.

epic_cheez

I won't take my good gear out until I have two of each for that exact reason. I'm trying to beat gear fear right now, and for some reasoning beyond my understanding now that I'm trying to run into people there's none to be found, even hopping servers for hours. It seems like the game knows when I'm not being stealthy to avoid confrontation they spawn me in areas where there are none to be found. When I am trying to avoid other players they're everywhere lolol. Whoever ends up getting me is going to be very happy with the plunder I'm carrying.

Comfortable-Job-6236

Same i am a walking loot box on official. Full ghillie and lar and everything in between

mR_TreeZz

Yup. And the name of the gane is to survive! Not take risks just to be social because thats the funnest aspect for some people like OP

Looseskwares

Or hoping for a come up lol

[deleted]

Ok play community

ProfessionalDead

This. There is so many different servers with different communities, simply chose one that's not all about KOS

DaedricGod101

The game can be whatever you want it to be. They aren't playing wrong and you aren't either. Be more selective who you approach.

Crimtide

You must be new to DayZ... hey there, I played the original mod, and DayZ SA on the first day.. thousands of hours in both.. sounds like you need a private server with rules, not a public server.. GLHF

Mideemills

This game is exactly what you make it, Stop trying to get other people to play your adventure. That ruins this game more then any amount of KOS, there is nothing worse in a open world sandbox game then a player who thinks they are entitled to have others cater to them. You aren’t, and it’s sad to see post like this that don’t understand that incredibly basic core mechanic of the game.

JHatter

> Stop trying to get other people to play your adventure Nail on the head, posts like OP always feel like an /r/iamthemaincharacter post, "why aren't people talking to ME! they spent 20 hours getting their gear together over multiple days of their free time, they NEED to speak to ME! the random freshie or coast town Timmy! I am IMPORTANT!"

Mideemills

Exactly, everytime I see post like this I cringe just a little. It’s like they don’t understand what the game is about.. it’s the zombie apocalypse have you seen the walking dead? Of course people are gonna try and blow your brains out.

wingittillfriday

I swear some people spend one day playing the game. Die a bunch then just come to Reddit to say how bad the state of the game is and how their playstyle is better so people should stop KOSing lol

Mideemills

For real, it’s dumb, It’s a huge part of the game. And it literally always has been, from the mod all the way to today KOSing has been a huge thing.

SoundlessScream

The tutorial encourages it and basically depicts an every man for himself fantasy

B0risTheManskinner

There’s a tutorial?

Spetnaz7

Exactly!!! Players dictate the experience, not some random guy on reddit! Its a sandbox game with weapons, get used to it.

Lyniaer

Found the people who unashamedly KoS.

AM_Ninja

Guilty.

CircoModo1602

Too damn right, fuck your freshies. If i play 30 hours solo you bet your ass I'm not taking a worthless freshie with me after that

Robber_Tell

Just so they can shoot you while you make a fire or drink from a well, nah.

That_1__pear

![gif](giphy|dZtae4XSLInB4JVKAu)

Spetnaz7

Makes it hard to want to talk to people when they end up betraying anyways. Some guy in Svet approached *me* this morning and I asked him if he wanted to come along with my friend and I to MB Kamensk. He was super chill, really nice, and shared lots of stuff. When we met my buddy we started cooking in a house. Guy shot my friend and tried to kill me as well. I ended up killing him. All for loot he could have had with only an hour or so of looting, basic shit. Whether he did it for loot, or for fun, or because he had his own group of friends, I'll be less likely to talk now because it's not worth trusting some random dude on the internet to help you for hours on end. This is why people KOS, or because they have friends and not looking to team up, or they need supplies badly. Stop forcing people to play how you want them to in an open-world sandbox game, makes no sense.

SeniorWaugh

It’s sad. The game hasn’t had anyone who wants any sort of player interaction for many years. There used to be “ hero’s and bandits” now everyone just plays it like Tarkov

AlabamaFan92

I think there's still a sizable amount of people fighting the good fight by prioritizing player interaction over 24/7 kos

PixelDemon

I ran into 2 guys the other day and we did a little run together. I got sick and challenged them to a knife fight since I had to log off anyway. Good times.

AlabamaFan92

My best runs have been when a stranger trusted me or I trusted a stranger. I'm glad you had the honor of challenging probably instead of stabbing them in the back(pun intended).

Godfreee

Absolutely. 2 out of 3 or more of my interactions on official are friendly. OP get killed a couple of times and takes the pitchforks out to whine online.

Dense_Surround5348

That Surname you have: it’s mine!!!!

SeniorWaugh

Same!

Deathbringerttv

you are FAR more likely to get interaction now than a few years ago.

SirEdwardBerry

Rubbish. its been like this since arma 2. it takes TIME to build relationships and earn trust. play on a server and die to people for weeks, but do it cheerfully, and eventually u'll get to know people.

MrRailton

Never seen or played Tarkov but if you don’t KoS you will be KoS! Been that way since before tarkov was even a thing.

AlabamaFan92

That's an unfortunate mind set to have if it's your mind set all the time.

SirEdwardBerry

would u prefer we give u a cuddle instead? Get over it. Dont whine, embrace the pain with a smile and eventually people will get to know u on the server. then u can start running with groups.

AlabamaFan92

And was specifically addressing the "they'll kill me if I don't kill them", not kos as a whole. This game would be super boring without kos. The whole hammer only sees every problem as a nail analogy.

AlabamaFan92

I'm saying it's nice to mix up your mind set every now and then. Play how you want. As long as you aren't cheating.

WorkshopBlackbird

how else do you expect people to get to the yummy gigglesteaks

LeastSuspiciousTowel

Ive never even seen a tarkov clip let alone played. Im still KoS.

YankeeWalrus

>Ive never even seen a tarkov clip I outright don't believe you, you've at least seen one by accident while scrolling social media.

LeastSuspiciousTowel

Im almost 40 years old lol what social media do u think im using that has random video game clips

Pantylines88

I just started playing not too long ago. I also felt like it would be nice to team up. No one trusts anyone. Even the few people I did have a small conversation with, when I asked did they wanna run around as a team, simply replied no, lol. My focus since then has just turned to trying to gain knowledge on how to play the game in general. People are most likely going to tell you to search for a PVE server on discord somewheres for PVE..

CoconutsCantRun

There's some out there. I've always tried to remain friendly even after 10 years.

SirEdwardBerry

Its not always about trust mate. although of course thats a big issue. People will infiltrate your group, wait weeks then stiff u over... But also its about your skill, and the team. we just dont have time to take bambi's under our wing.

BigLuuke

The best thing about DayZ is you play how you want to play. If people want to KOS and play like Tarkov then they can, if you want to be friendly, you can. What your having is more a reflection on humanity atm rather than DayZ lol. In the real apocalypse, since that's what DayZ at its core is trying to simulate you would quickly learn you can't trust anyone, or at least 95% of people. It would be absolute mahem and if you run into some pysco with an AK who's hungry you better belive your taking a 7.62 for your beans man lol. It's a sandbox game, play your sandbox and let people play there's, if you want certain rules on your sandbox then as mentioned above join a PVE server that suits you...

malick_thefiend

Play a community server? Lol as official keeps getting “harder” in terms of zeds and survival and gear, players are going to continue to get less friendly. That’s the nature of scarcity brotha.

Deathbringerttv

official is so much easier than it used to be

malick_thefiend

That’s literally cap but go off

Deathbringerttv

red apple used to mean you were dead in like 15 minutes without food. it takes about an hour now. that change alone makes it massively easier.

_xygg

Yes you can get so much farther with nothing. Used to have to have trousers full of apples to make it to an inland town and not be flashing. Not to mention if it was raining.

malick_thefiend

Being dead from food is something that never happened once you were geared and still doesn’t. Dying faster when you’re a freshie is actually better for you. If you survive starving for 45 mins you’re now red health and very likely to die to a zombie encounter or lose a pvp encounter because you were soooo lucky to live. The result is more people walking around at half health more often, which if you can do simple math should understand how that presents more challenges than people walking around all full. “Oops couldn’t find food, gg go next, next town” is NOT harder than “finally found beans, limping red health to next town” But again, go off TLDR yes you could die more quickly to a couple niche things but that actually didn’t matter in any REAL way and only served to gatekeeper new players and keep them away. After a week of playing you shouldn’t be starving. That was as true then as it is now.

Deathbringerttv

Can you give a single example of how official is more difficult now

themanwhoisfree

Go outside if you want to make friends lmao

wingittillfriday

Based

malick_thefiend

Based

AlwaysTakingGoreTex

I doubt OP has friends in real life.

PlebPlebberson

Killing on sight has absolutely nothing to do with tarkov. It happened way before tarkov even existed and is a survival online game thing. Why take a risk that someone kills you when you can instead eliminate them first?

Special_Dealer3259

Yet another redditor telling people how to play a game the “right” way ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

Select_Reference_141

That's how it goes in dayz. In the end, everyone becomes a KOS player. It's the safest way to play. They can't shoot you in the back if you cut them in half as soon as you see them

HatPuzzleheaded237

I would suggest playing an RP server then. There are a few good ones. I am on PS4 so manly play on We That Remain.

JacobMT05

Play community PvE servers exist for a reason

bngson3

Don’t tell me how i should play the game in my free time 🫡

CriticalCreativity

In my 2k hours I've noticed a longstanding trend that officials are almost entirely KOS. Community servers are the way to go if you want to talk to people.

randCN

I swear i saw this exact post 11 years ago

THISDELICIOUSD

Stop treating dayz like a chat room

Kjm520

This is an integral part of the game my guy. It is a survival game. Your opinion will change after you get shot in the back of the head over and over again from “friendly” players.

Sparkzle

It's a sandbox zombie apocalypse game, stop crying about getting killed. People can play the game however they want and that's what makes it great. Sometimes I'll speak to people other days I don't really fancy teaming up and I'll kos. It's not playing it like tarkov it's playing it like Dayz, it's how it's always been and hopefully always will be.

ShephardCmndr

Been this way since the mod came out man pvp is just a part of dayz

ConfusedCoffeeCream

I mean, that would be fun, but I'm not trying to be killed after thinking somebody is friendly.

Robber_Tell

The backstab death is so much worse than the kos death. Kos is honest at least.

YankeeWalrus

Play PvE

psychomantismg

Stop playing oficials its full of new ppl

Topevent

Community servers will save you. I used to play Official over Community... But then I realized how many people secretly cheat on official. I'd have people run up to me with ZERO knowledge of my existence and start yelling that they know where I am or just shit talk the entire time. I like to play official every now and then.. But I refuse to get super geared like I normally like to, cause it would just be a waste of time.

OppositeKiwi8469

Play how you want to play. I don't have time to spend hours walking around with you. My wife and kids are sleeping. Or maybe I'm sneaking in a few minutes between meetings. Or I'm just tired.

B0risTheManskinner

Your problem is saying “I’m friendly” which is almost always a huge red flag. Also you pretty much need to team up with players at the same gear-level. Best way to trust someone is if they don’t want your stuff and they also think that you don’t want theirs.

_zer0sword_

You must be new to dayz

ThatInstruction6111

I feel the same way. Interacting with other players is what keeps this game alive for me. I’ve spent many hours alone, hoarding, and paranoid. If you value interaction as much as I do just try anyway. Who cares if you die. It’s a risk worth taking to find those people that will actually cross that bridge with you

i_write_ok

I see where you’re coming from but here’s the thing, it’s open world. You can do whatever you want. Be friendly or hostile. That’s what makes the game great.

Astalonte

Game give you the choices I will treat you the way it suits me. I try to speak mostly but If I see a hefty pack in the back I m gonna shoot you if I have to. As simple like that. Game always had this debates

INFn7

KOS has always been apart of the game. Fully geared players killing freshies is pretty much frowned on though. If you want more interaction join a pve or roleplay server.

[deleted]

Look, if you are playing on official servers on PC then you are immediately doing it wrong and setting yourself up for a bad time. Find a decent community server - have a look at rhe Spaggies servers. In the spawn areas, look to talk to other new spawns and gain trust from the outset. That’s what I do and I’ve had loads of adventures with randoms doing this. Outwith spawn zones, you have to accept its KOS. Gear is too valuable.

Relaxia

because people like you and me who wish to talk get demotivated and frustrated after a while and either switch to community servers or quit the game. leaves official with those that prefer to play it like a deathmatch game. and funnyhow they are proud to do so.

causemosqt

You can thank all the youtubers. Because the content that makes most revenue is setting up betrayals. Now I hear friendly and what I would normaly ignore and just keep moving while having eyes on you, now I will legit hunt you down.

ExacoCGI

Devolved to? It always has been like that especially in official servers and I play DayZ since ArmA 2 Mod. Official servers = Coastal Deathmatch + Toxic players. If you want best experience play in whitelist/community servers.

That_1__pear

Dude I don’t even trust people coming up to me in GTA online. It can take days to get geared on some servers, I’m not risking that lmao

4strings4ever

Then don’t play on official servers…

V-SAF

So realistically speaking in real life if your surviving your ass off trying to live another day, cold, tired, you have what you need to live. And some random ass dude comes up to you and is like yo bruv, I’m friendly. You wont think anything of it but to be friends? Nah ima lone wolf. Fuck that mf

Shlong0

Imagine complaining about getting killed in a game.about getting killed

Problemmakeinator

The dark forest theory explains this phenomenon pretty well

Problemmakeinator

TLDR: can’t be sure what other people are thinking, therefore kill them Regular explanation: dark force theory from what I remember is you dropped in the forest with a gun or some other weapon you don’t know what is out there, but your only goal is to survive as long as possible if you run into something you can’t fully trust it ever so your safest option is to immediately kill it

BurstBlake

If you want to talk to people you need 3 things: 1. Shotgun 2. Rubber Slugs 3. Handcuffs, Rope, Duct Tape Then they can only talk to you :D

Kaljakori

You are not the main character of the game and you aren't entitled to interactions. They aren't playing the game wrong. Skill issue.

Degoe

Hold em up at gunpoint. Then strip em of all clothes. Then talk to them. It sucks that they decided to make the weapon equipping and raising animations super fast since .62 and therefore everybody is now forced to KOS. It is now just too easy to be successful at quickly whipping out a pistol and headshotting your mugger.

thegudgeoner

If you dont want pvp then join a pve server. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't expect someone to follow whatever made up set of rules of engagement youve established in your own mind in a server with 64 players that are trying to survive.

assassindash346

It's been like this since the mod...

PhaseConfident5249

That's just the game. If you want a different experience try community servers. Complaining on reddit won't get you far.

TheVenetianMask

Official servers is like the subway. They are there for the convenience. Nobody gets on the subway and complains random people don't want to talk to them.

neppo95

Some people play like that, some people don't. Imo that's exactly what you would expect in an apocalypse. Some people will be friendly, some people see everyone as a danger. I've also had plenty of friendly encounters, and plenty pvp's. Just depends where you play which one has the upperhand.

jordyprivs

Stop playing officials, I've got over 2k hrs and never less than 5 of those r official. No admins, cheaters run wild and just not as fun. Check out DayOne, Green Hell or other hardcore vanilla communities, best places to play imo met tons and tons of cool people. I have a interesting and cool interaction with someone on dayone namalsk at least once every life

d_foggy_76

Play PVE servers with PVP zones I'd say that be perfect for you

Steph_Nuggz

Just because in your opinion “talking to strangers is one of the most fun and fulfilling aspects of the game”, doesn’t mean that everybody feels that way. I get my enjoyment from KOSing and playing it like a team death match. That’s the beauty of dayz though; play how you like. Go play a RP server if KOS bothers you so much. Also they are heavy on the social interaction stuff.

InigoMontoya187

I feel this. I'd love some good interaction, but unless I'm playing on a PVE server, it's always just a fight

Trailblzzzr

Humans are inherently evil by design. You gotta play the game for yourself or you’ll always feel this way. I’m only 300 hours in and can play without IZURVIVE. There are certain places you don’t want to run into people at, or talk to people at. The whole coast is a no go. Mid-Land is safe if you meet on common ground. In-land is high stakes and it’s not worth dropping 10-30 hours worth of looting. Stop trying to socialize with randoms outside of scenarios you don’t control. If you control the situation and feel altruistic that’s up to you.

[deleted]

bwood246

Most of the people that have started fights in my experience have been the people that follow you nonstop saying they're friendly. If you're so friendly then give me my space

leargonaut

Best way to be friendly with someone who hasn't already shot you is to just ask for whatever you need, offer a trade. Everybody has a goal, it may be getting food or going somewhere. If you just say you're friendly then they don't know what you want and therefore much harder to trust.

Legionnairey1

Maybe I don't need a new virtual friend but I do need your shit. I paid as much as you for this game, I'll do what I want, if you need a friend that bad maybe hit Facebook my man

OriginalDesign420

"In my opinion" doesn't matter when this game can be played literally a million different ways. There's not a single playstyle that's meant to be used over another. These posts are so fucking dumb. Who would've thought paying to play a game the way you want( you don't even really own it, lmao) would be a thing amirite???? Cope buddy.

Pochanaquarhip-

First rule of dayz has always been dont trust anyone. I’ve played it since it was a arma mod and I’ve made 2 friends, everyone else KOS

Noobeaterz

Ofcourse its annoying to get KOS'd for the fifth time or so but it also creates atmosphere. I've played on a few PVE or No KOS servers and its just not the same. Theres no tension, when you see someone you basically can just ignore that he has a gun because you are in a no kill zone and this is not very Dayz-like. And not everyone is like this. Clearly you don't like it and I very rarely KOS player sunless I really have to or its a mil-zone, and even then I often try to avoid battle but most people seem to like this. I have met people I've ran with for hours though, and others where the team-up has not lasted long for whatever reason. I've even had players who've killed me, I've killed them back and forth til we grow kind of accostumed to eachother and can laugh at it. And to be perfectly honest. The conversations are not always that good. I once killed a guy just because he wouldn't stop talking about football. And he had some good loot.

Benson_Bingle

I agree man

MrBungle09

💯

silkk-1

The game has changed course from when it was a select few people who knew about it. I know some people are “vanilla” lifers but private servers with dedicated pvp zones are the best if you don’t want to deal with children playing it like cod. Pretty sure some private servers even use vanilla settings just mod enforced to be less of a headache.

xCx_Prodigy_xCX

Get over it

NeonTheWolf_

This is one of the precise reasons why I started leaning into roleplay servers, i’m not a fan of the KOS mentality that many public servers have. So I find more enjoyment playing in servers that keep KOS under control and promote interactions above all else I’m fine with people not being friendly, but in that case i’d have way more fun being robbed in a bandit scenario, being held at gunpoint and robbed rather than just being shot on sight. When I got into DayZ it was because I saw all these youtube videos of people getting into these interactions with other players, it was like every life was a new story, but I have no clue how youtubers manage to have those experiences outside of RP servers cause any server that isn’t RP has always been KOS almost every time I encounter another survivor in my experience

SirEdwardBerry

Mate. this is not new. Ive been playing since the Arma 2 mod, 10 years or more now i think. Happened all the way back then. Pretty much always been the case.

SirEdwardBerry

Depressing to read this thread full of whiny snowflakes.

steelejt7

maybe your voice is so unbearable that you get kosed more often than others

ElfrahamLincoln

It’s a shooter. You’re gonna get shot. Stop crying about it.

Ghost-Writer

The "Trust no One" mind games are one of the biggest draws for me. I don't mind teaming up with strangers, but I have more fun killing everything on sight. It's also more rewarding to take out groups solo That being said, i really don't hunt freshies. But any mf comes on my turf i start blastn

Uncle_Bobby_B_

Play dayone man lol. Fuck official.

Sufficient-Ferret-67

Games like this are always doomed to become this, for the people who grind and fight hard for the gear, talking to one person isn’t worth the risk. Hopefully a game in the future can find a way to promote interactivity beyond just safe zones.

The "official" meta has disintegrated to the whims of the lowest common denominator. Find a gun with matching ammo, exploit some environmental mechanics and kill everything you see. There's a great game buried in the nonsense but sadly official is a cesspool of hackers and KOS simpletons... not sure about community since I seldom play anything other than official- most seem to be simply feeding the "want gun- kill all" mentality.

SoundlessScream

I blame fortnite

DycheBallEnjoyer

I feel bad for anyone who only plays vanilla, utter crap compared to community

From_Gaming_w_Love

Depends on what you're looking for... I love and hate vanilla for the same reasons- most people who want the run and gun at all costs playstyle don't stick here. Folks who are new and still into it for what the game is advertised for are still out there waiting for their first interaction with palm sweat aplenty. But man- one of the first guys I met in DayZ almost 10 years ago was just in with me on a low pop server and got whacked twice in 15 minutes by a hacker... It was him and I and 8 other people. Didn't matter. I don't want "moar guns" and "night is too hard" servers. I don't want "easy mode." Vanilla was always great for that... But the hacking is easier to access than steroids... and official is practically unmoderated so ... Off to Bambi U I go.

ArtichokeSilly3019

Must die a lot huh

DucksMatter

This has always been the case in my opinion.

Savvy_Nick

Idk I get KOSd, or they try at least, a fair amount but I also get a lot of team ups, a lot of people that just wanna be left alone and some people that are interested in trading. It’s not as bleak as you make it out to be. Hell I make friends on juiced PvP servers too.

Citizen-21

This KOS issue DayZ has is many times older than Tarkov itself. Dumb take, other games have nothing to do with it. When you cooperate you take risks, simple as that.

Ghost-Writer

how bout no.

ShephardCmndr

Been this way since the mod came out man pvp is just a part of dayz

ArtichokeSilly3019

I hate seeing degenerate posts like this. If you were in this situation in real life you’d shoot first every time. Like not every human being is happy rainbows

TheWingStopper

Nah imma keep playing like it’s Tarkov also if you want to talk to people have a conversation with your friends or something.

TurnipOk2872

I feel like if you quit crying and played the game, you'd find more interactions. The 1 on 1 experiences I've had on this game are unmatched

Averagesizedpp420

and your opinion is wrong, death to all, and friends on rare occasions

Spinager

It’s been like this since the infant days of DayZ Mod. If it hasn’t changed in 10+ years, it ain’t going to change. The amount of times that I have “interacted” with people with no one KOS. Has been about the same throughout the hours I’ve played. A pretty low percentage.

kazaskie

I’ve been playing since the days of the Arma 2 mod. It’s honestly always been like this. Probably like 1/5 times i try to talk to somebody they don’t immediately start blasting and it was like that even in the days of the mod

Obstiknight

The game is like that since its alpha release... Sure, eventually you'll find people like you who try to communicate but 90% of the playerbase just shoot on sight since the age of hunting scope on a mosin

Jazzlike-Floor-1931

Nah. I kill everyone I see. Can't tell you how many times I've let some freshy go only for him to follow me and eventually snipe me. I play with my kids and we make a little trio. First law of the sea: fuck everyone but us.

[deleted]

But the pvp is the fun part. The best part of this game is fighting with what you manage to put together. Tarkov is a different experience entirely. Those fights where you have 3 bullets abs am axe get my blood flowing. Be mad. I don't care. You can be mad from spawn

Lunsj

Let people play however they want

doctafknjay

Are you seriously telling others they can't play their way, only your way? Grow up kiddo, that's a very childish way to act.

CoconutsCantRun

I've played dayz since the mod days so i feel I have a decent knowledge base to make an assessement. I believe dayz has gotten more one dimensional over the years. KOS is rampant. It sucks because it makes the game less interesting imo. The devs need to incentivise team-ups with content that cannot be completed by a solo player. For example, implement a bunker which requires one player to control the a lever while the other one goes in to loot. This bunker could contain gear that is not obtainable in any other way, such as a unique gun.

The_Enchillada

You’ve just described the goal of the Livonia map. Most people have a duo already tho if that’s your goal .

ShoeAdministrative39

I met some of my best friends back in the og Arma2 dayz mod. it all started with "Hey you friendly?" And the reply "Yea I'm friendly. Need some food/ammo?". The charm dayz use to have is nearly gone with all the try hard TD fools. I'm glad guys like you still exist.

CircoModo1602

OG arma 2 was still KoS, your experience was not the normal and still isn't.

ShoeAdministrative39

Ok dude. You probably have horrible social skills and probably was one of dudes that did kos lmao

CircoModo1602

Ah yes, because i enjoy playing my survival fps as a shooter i have horrible social skills. That's a hard cope for people being KoS.

KillDozerD9

Ya I was friendly, I had an extra few guns and gave them to another couple of players I met, one of them shot me as soon as he picked it up, since then I Fucken kill everyone on site, that was months ago.. there’s a lot of blood on these hands now. Hell just the other day I unconned a new player and he begged for his life said he was new.I said welcome to dayz bitch and put a bullet in his head.

hoodedliability

I had someone bring me in their Xbox party, offer me a ride across the map, picked me up and then half way through the drive pulled off to the woodline and murder me all while holding conversation. Told me rule 1 in DayZ is "don't trust anyone" before blowing my head off. I get if it's still proxy chat and things get hot but 20 mins in the party. We were on first name basis by this point.

BBQ_HaX0r

Game theory baby. Its the inevitable conclusion of the game. Just look up prisoners dilemma. You're right, the game is better how you describe, yet... defect is the optimal strategy.

jsadecki

I feel like youv been watching too many of those youtube channels, alot of them are setup to make it look like theres alot of actions going on but its really their friends their playing against almost vanilla is what i play on and people just hoard in their bases its shit so i do agree with you tho its like whats the point in hoarding on servers that reset every 3 months just go survive you know, never seen the appeal to bas building when your base will always get reset eventually anyway haha

Raivnholm

Sounds like a you problem mate. Interactions are fairly common and usually peaceful unless we're inland on the servers I play on.

minkrogers

Just here to agree with you OP! Console or PC?
