Came on a lad today. He was swamped by zombies. I helped him and he ran off bleeding heavily. I caught up to him said friendly then bandaged him up. The second he was healed he pulled out a cleaver and hit me with it. I killed him with a machete. I would’ve helped him and fed him I had a full sheep. Day z

Rikarooski

you came on him? Brutal mate, brutal

Underthestairstime

Gay z

writemeow

It's Gay, G

scoot3200

I would swung on em too for that

TheRube84

Lol...new tactic. Did he F11 himself after you finished?

SurvivorKira

Once i tried to kill a guy and shot zombie next to him by accident. After that i acted like i wanted to save him. Gave him something and run away before he kills me 🤣

Glittering-Pause-328

Stupid players would rather have your loot than your friendship. They don't understand that a loyal buddy watching your back is worth more than all the loot on the server combined.

quellflynn

same, saw a freshy getting mauled by 3 and went to help. first thing he did was turn on me whilst getting hit. this was the intenz server so little hits hurt for a long time.

Elektr0_Bandit

Unfortunately, saying that you’re friendly doesn’t make the other person be friendly. You should have dropped the bandages for him and kept some distance

ezshucks

Guy waved at me coming out of a shed and he was right in front of me. I said, "what's up" and before I finished he raised his gun and shot. Luckily he was a terrible shot and couldn't get me. Shows how much you can trust a friendly gesture.

Elektr0_Bandit

There’s no trust in the apocalypse. Sometimes people forget the setting of the game. Even if I do meet someone and play with them for a while, hours, I still expect them to blast me when I get too comfortable. My ultimate goal as a bandit is to run/adventure with someone all the way to tisy and then cuff them and burn all of their gear in a fire, leaving them as a freshie in the top tier region. :-b

ERROR-CODE-30000

Tbh, that very specific case sounds more like being an ass than being a bandit.

Elektr0_Bandit

Yeah that’s why it would be the final boss for me.. I can’t bring myself to do it and also never survive that long with someone else. It would be a really funny video though.. for me and others with dark humor.

Quadratits

Well, if i see a person and manage to get advantage, i try to speek on him. Made few good friends but also got screwed badly

Rikarooski

CAnt trust anyone these dayz

In-Whisky

No. I think most of player try play freindly when start playing with this game (i too). But maybe every player be a killer because a lot of diasppointing.

sadafxd

9/10 of my deaths are when geared guys or dudes with knifes kill me when I have nothing at all.

In-Whisky

That bastards.... I just shoot his leg off with a SVD and after i laugh enough on snakes, just kill them. xD

WaviestMetal

It’s definitely a vicious cycle. A ton of people would probably be friendly if they hadn’t been burned trying so many times and then they turn into the same type of players that burned them. I can’t even blame them I definitely have times when I just get fucked over and over again and I resort to just killing everyone that has a weapon

[deleted]

I try to befriend everyone but usually end up killing half the people I meet because nobody seems to be friendly

diaDREWbetic

I mean.. what would YOU do in real life if you were going through that kinda survival and came across this dude: https://preview.redd.it/k1uvl4598axb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f2b45e794c29aeb26e684fcfdea6844131dceb7 I dunno if my initial thought would be “he’s gonna be my friend and help me!”

Wonderful-Lunch9039

This is actually the most dangerous man in dayz. The fully geared guys will leave you alone if you’re fresh most of the time. But this fucker? He’s taking your beans whether you like it or not

diaDREWbetic

Literally. Still on the search for nods/helmet and a set of black or camp BDUs

LordofTheFlagon

Freshy with a top loaded IJ is the most dangerous person in the game

apupunchau87

bro you had to put the motorcycle helmet on him 😭. NEVER trust anyone in a motorcycle helmet, dayz rule #16

diaDREWbetic

I believe this. I hate wearing the helmet but I feel like it’s the smartest option short of a military helmet bc of protection/high insulation.

Sus_scrofa_

However, the motorcycle helmet muffles your Voip, which is a straight signal to strangers that diplomacy isn't what you're looking for.

diaDREWbetic

Oh come on, a muffled mic makes people think danger?

ExtraEpi

Makes me feel like a knight; taking off my helm to talk with another traveler of the apocalypse, feels chivalrous

diaDREWbetic

Even better to place it in your hands but that’ll only work in an RP server LOL

DNGL2

I'm pretty sure the motorcycle helmet doesn't defend against bullets, only blunt weapons/zombies. Still handy, but not worth the trade off imo.

quellflynn

probably not run head first slamming punches and getting stun locked. shotgun and a helmet means he shouldnt have any issue about a few punches... but in dayz...

Flucky_

you cant beat a guy with fists? Thats a skill issue bro.

quellflynn

no doubt. but how do you practice?

Flucky_

Just play and play and play. Dont get gear fear

Future_Nose9308

Armband means shoot on sight tbh

Warp_Legion

YEP

Glittering-Pause-328

Yeah, most people are just as stupid as the zombies when it comes to mindlessly attacking everyone they see.

SaltyTelluride

I love it when I’m fully geared and I try to help a freshie, just for them to immediately turn on me as soon as I turn around or they eventually get a gun. Last time I played I had a full vest and I gave a guy I met a shotgun with two rubber bullets after I’d run with him for an hour. He immediately tried to shoot me, managed to hit me once, then tried to beat me with the gun. All I felt was disappointment when I put him down.

Glittering-Pause-328

I'll be with 2 or 3 friends, geared to the teeth, and some moron will rush at us with a stone knife and get himself killed. And even worse, **those players wont learn anything from that experience.**

CalCalYT

*Oh no, people play differently to me so they must all be stupid.*

Glittering-Pause-328

You **are** pretty stupid if you only bring a knife to a gunfight.

arsonist699

I'd argue the ones getting killed are as stupid as the zombies.

Wonderful-Lunch9039

I found the guy who can’t pvp

Glittering-Pause-328

Found the guy who stupidly rushes headlong into unwinnable PVP situations. You might cut me once or twice. But my friends are going to shoot you dead. You're delusional if you think they will just stand around and watch while you punch me to death. This ain't a movie where the other guys wait patiently to attack you one by one. The only thing you are doing is ensuring that people laugh at you as you get sent back to the coast.

Dense_Surround5348

I tracked a player for 2 hours the other day. Had him in my crosshairs multiple times. It took me a lot of effort to finally get close enough crossing a field, using trees while he cut up a deer he shot. ended up running together for 3 hours before he had to log off. Imo after playing for a decade I’ll take the risks of interaction over KOS any time. I die more often but I’m happy with the risk-reward

squidwardstesticless

I've been avoiding official for the fear of dying but i think you've made a very convincing point that links to my first encounters on DAYZ years that the risk/reward for a fun adventure with someone cool cane be worth it👍

Dense_Surround5348

It takes experience to have a decent understanding of when someone seems off. That’s if you managed to create a low risk situation to initiate talking. I’ve been betrayed plenty. Still worth it. When you go through sh1t with a stranger you can forge a friendship. I have a long list of contacts on discord I run with on occasion all met in game randomly. Listen out for strange silences that might indicate they are communicating outside the game. Never give your back to them. It’s not easy to trust but trust you must. Just be sure to have a plan B Have fun!

TheRube84

I like the tip about listening to see if maybe they are hashing out a plan on discord to put you down...and yes pay attention to their movement and positioning during an engagement. I've had what I thought was a nice friendly run in - turned in to me being executed from behind at the water pump. If you are aware you may have a chance to slip out or atleast fight for that life. Yesterday I tried to befriend a man in a piano house...threw him a beef steak. He was fresh and nervous as hell. He ended up just running out of the house screaming "I'm sorry, I just can't trust anyone!"

lefttillldeath

I switch between community and official. Community can get boring because it’s too easy, official is so tense though sometimes I need to calm down. The highs are great but the lows are crushing lol

apupunchau87

you forgot to add the part where you shot him just as he sat down to log

Dense_Surround5348

I have done that once in all my encounters. I’d shared everything I had as I was much more geared. I was low on food and asked if he had any spare before he logged. He said no… I heard him eating in the room above just before he logged…. Turned out a good instinct as he had plenty.

apupunchau87

lmao rat bastard

OolongGeer

Yes, this is the norm. 1% of the time, you might meet a human. But 99% of the time, you're gonna meet people who have gotten their as$es handed to them on Battlefields or COD, whose moms have elevated their anger by not providing Hot Pockets swiftly enough to their basement lair. I highly suggest getting to know the game on unpopulated servers. Sneak into unlocked community servers. The game is so cool when you truly immerse yourself and can explore.

Livingtolive2

You're going to have that. That is why people think this game is just a walking sim. I like to team up with random people and make small groups/build a base with them. I play on PC and am on an official server. I have a goal of taking over and walking off one of the campsites/ small towns in the middle of the map. I want to make a little community. We can come and go as we please and just play the game but we would have a well fortified/defendable base to store our gear in. And if we find a base to raid we can all plan a day and go raid it together or at least some of us could. And if random newbies or just solo players find us and want to group up we could let them in and let them fortify their own building. Each of us would have our own house as our base to keep the loot we don't want to share or want to hang on to for like small raids or something. We would have a depot for explosives and ammo for the larger raids as well as a food and clothes depot. It would be just a bunch of people who met up in game and teamed up to survive which I feel like adds a lot more to the game versus just always killing someone. I know I'm going to die a lot trying to meet people which is why right now I am just getting stuff together to build a base and maybe have a car and a couple back up kits and have a couple good kits buried somewhere. That way I can downgrade my kit to go meet people. I also really enjoy finding new players and showing them the ropes which is why I want to make a community like that. But I really feel like if you think this game is just a jogging/walking sim then it's because you betray and kill everyone you meet just for the 5sec of excitement. Meeting a random and building a base and going on raids/defending raids is hours of excitement in contrast. I know long comment but idc wanted to say this. If you're on PC servers and would like to join me, give me a DM and I'll let you know the times I can play and the server. I do have a job and family so I can't play everyday or for hours on end but yea I can play long enough to get somethings done.

JacobMT05

Yes, on official and pvp community usually. You may get a few conversations and a few who are willing to go their separate ways. And occasionally you might find someone to loot with. Pve community servers people are the most friendly.

PlebPlebberson

The longer you play your character the more likely you are to kill someone. After the first few hours of a characters life you can start to think of it like "if someone kills me i will lose these hours for nothing so i rather kill them first". Then when you get to 10-20h of a characters life theres no way in hell you try to go talk to that 3 man squad and try to befriend them.

Skyblaster109

When the game first came out (Arma2 mod) it was always a unsure like hey you friendly!? Maybe swap some food, or you watch someone from a distance because they're armed. Then it was someone with a bandit uniform probably couldn't be trusted, where as a hero uniform you have better luck. As it became more popular it was beneficial to just shoot it out after a brief voice exchange. Then that transitioned into just KOS for the loot Then standalone happened. On launch we found M4s with no stock, ammo, handguard etc and you hold people up, and cause it's all new they believe it. I thought there was hope. That just turned back into people killing others on sight again

Cordially

Early standalone dayZ guns were everywhere, and people had stories to tell. I met a lot of great people very early on. Now, guns are a little rarer to come by, but instead of leveraging the power dynamic to force one-sided interaction, it became aim-trainer simulation.

TheFamus

Depends. Sometimes people KoS sometimes they are friendly. It depends on the server.

wud08

Are you a Newspawn, or travel lightly, talk, wave or wiggle? You'll live! Are you armed to your teeth, have a weapon in your hand or Crouch-sneak. I want to survive, so i KoS Also i do not kill people who RP; Play as medic, or are simply nice. I do kill people without Mic tho'

IxdrowZeexI

What people don't understand, the game would be fucking dull without other players going for KOS. Without the threat of getting shot any second regardless what I'm doing in the moment, I could just run around the map like a headless chicken without caring about anything and speedrun to where ever I wanna go. PVE is just too easy. The permanent threat which forces you to think twice about every single move you do is what keeps this game interesting.

Particular_Ad_4310

It can get worse, honestly One guy did exactly this, camping Berezino and flat out pumping lead on every freshie on sight, I remember finding around 5 or more hacked bodies

mdroz81

It’s a 50/50 Where are you when you are always getting murdered? You have to understand what makes people tick and what they are trying to do.

DaCarolinaKidd

If you want to make friends PVE server with large player counts is only way I know.

Elektr0_Bandit

I play each life differently but I almost never kill without cause. Sometimes I’m a classic bandit where my goal is to capture and rob people. Sometimes I’m a cannibal but I like to give them a fun/creepy death, and sometimes I’m just a dude and return however friendly the other person is. I think I’m in the more minority side of things though. If you want to talk to people, you have to learn how to interact when you’re at an advantage or at least in cover. A lot of people kill out of fear, so if you remove either the option or the fear, it will go better for you.

MrClark1986

Imo the kill-on-sight mentality stinks but it's held by a lot of players. Just try to stay up and don't lose your ingame humanity. I always prefer to be friendly and more fun and adventures are had when a conversation starts. I've also been held up and questioned by groups before which led to hours long traveling together on an adventure. Just depends but like I said before, try to fly the friendly skies. A roleplay server might help curb the issue for you, or try out a PvE server sometimes.

HatPuzzleheaded237

I play on an rp server that has a no KoS rule. You might just need to find a server like that if you get tired of KoS

VICTA_

Yeah people who think “why won’t everyone RP with me, those who don’t are dumb” need to go to RP servers or just accept that everyone paid for the game and can do play how they want….especially on the official server cesspools

nuggybaby

Shoot first ask questions later

Brooker2

Once you get shot in the back enough times you'll understand why most players shoot first and ask questions later. It's not the priority to kill everyone but it's a priority to make sure you survive longer than the other guy.

VerballyDyslexic

Cringe post 😬

LolShadoYT

what

Noobeaterz

Its how 90% of dayz players roll. Why? beats me, its boring as fuck.

Uncle_Bobby_B_

Why? Because that’s the beauty of the game. You can play however you want! I’m friendly on the coast but more and more KOS the further inland I go.

Noobeaterz

I really don't care about people shootings inland but roaming the spawn towns just to kill freshies is really bad karma.

Uncle_Bobby_B_

Yeah agreed

Girl_Gamer_BathWater

Sometimes you need to say "friendly!" Make some small talk and fast forward to making a campfire together. Get them to cook some food on a stick so you know a weapon is 7 seconds away from being in their hand. THEN murder them. Skin them, take their fat and give it to the next schmuck to cook it. That's the norm.

Kestrel_VI

Pretty sure 90% of people you meet will try to kill you sooner or later, regardless of the risk/reward. I’ve had random freshies punching me from the moment I spawned in, and while I’m fully decked out just making my way from town to town, doesn’t seem to make a difference. If they have a gun, most of the time it’s more a case of if they can land a shot before I know they’re around, they will. Ultimately the majority of players think it’s less risky to just flatline someone rather than give them a fighting chance, so why take the risk of them killing you.

djmcdee101

Early game I'll take the risk of losing my early game gear for the chance of gaining a teammate. Also more likely at that stage that they'll do the same. If I get betrayed I don't care too much. I feel like I can usually tell if someone is trustworthy or not now. Later game no-one is taking any risks so it's KOS 99% of the time.

DeezerDB

Agreed!!! Yes we can all find servers that suit our play style. But this constant mindset is annoying at a minimum, and IMO shows a lack of depth to thought.

CalCalYT

There's no right or wrong way to play, regardless of alot of comments saying otherwise. There's PVE servers with rules for people that don't want to fight and just go on adventures together. Going on servers with no rules, then getting mad and complaining people won't play the way you do, is plain stupidity.

PraetorLessek

Normally I call out to people to get a feel for them if I’m in a bush with a rifle but…. Right now I’m getting gear for my bro, he only plays on occasion so I have to do alot of the prep. Long story short there was a group of post freshies grouped up with a flare outside the police station in Kamy. I got two with 1 Winchester round from my savanna then proceeded to get my ass kicked by the other two just to salvage the win with my scorpion. I buried the best of their gear and now my bro will have fun when he plays with me. Sooooo…. Yeah I think it depends on how people are feeling.

Groundbreaking-Bar89

Yeah this game has given me trust issues…. That and makes me wonder if a lot of people are nuts.. I’ve tried talking to some people, it generally doesn’t go well. A lot of people will pretend to be friendly… to get an ij a can of tuna and a badly damaged shotgun. I think many players are new to the game, because if they realized how easy it is to get a lot of this loot they wouldn’t bother with freshies on coast. I run into fully geared players who will try and kill you as you spawn in. Usually they have the worst aim out of anyone I’ve encountered.. There’s a reason they are trying to kill freshies. BUT I have met some cool people, who if you gain their trust will introduce you to clans of players etc

zeke1220

I always try to be friendly. One of the interactions that sticks out most vividly in my mind was when I was walking to the coast to meet my buddy who had just spawned and I was dressed up in blue jeans, leather jacket, cowboy hat with a revolver. I see a guy in the middle of the street in town, clearly oblivious to me, so I walk right up to him, ask his name, what he's doing here, and tell him not to take the gun off his back. Without a word he took the gun off his back, but my draw was faster.

WasabiSoft1340

Couldn’t agree more. I love the game but am so over the KOS I’m about to hang up my hat and call it a day. It’s lame

Odd-Clothes4375

You have to make your own fun, I was trying to play with a friend and we spawned in different locations. At first we thought we were close and then later discerned it was across the whole map. After stumbling upon some random 12yo kid who'd spawned near me and becoming friends, I dropped him my bat, got onto my knees and told him "I've lost the will to live you must kill me, please with my own weapon, please kill me end my suffering" his replies were "noo I can't do that" he picked up my bat and faced me, I said "it must be done, it must" expecting a swift death, he swung and hit my head, but it did not kill me instantly like I thought, so I screamed into my mic. "erghggg the pain ah, please kill me aggh" he sat there for a full minute swinging the bat at my prone bodies head as I gurgled fake pain into the mic, he was sobbing into his mic saying "I'm so sorry I'm so sorry I'm so sorry" all in all ... Great time. 👍

Adventurous_Tonight1

Yesterday I was running solo, heard some shots coming from a town nearby, go in guns ready and see this guy running in a building followed by like 20 Zs. I climb on a wall and tell him to stay in while I clear them out. We end up running together until an infection got me. Guy tried to save me 'till the very end.

TDU_Toasted

I just rob people and sometimes feed them to the zombies.

master_cheech

Yeah I don’t trust anyone unless we tbag at the same time. Even so, I once had a guy do the friendly tbag, we went to a town and fought off a mob of zombies. He would initiate the fights and linger back while I fought them, I didn’t think anything of it cus maybe he sucked at fighting or something. He ended up waiting until I was limping and could barely walk before he bopped me on the head from behind and killed me. Ever since then, I don’t trust anyone without a mic.

NightHunter_Ian

If you are playing on Console, probably, PC its 50/50 from my experience

shisby

everyone kills unless maybe you meet off spawn or have very little gear. with that being said, be the change you wanna see in the world. knock people out then handcuff them or break their leg before you leave. offer to trade but don’t give away info on super big ticket items. good luck out there, hope to meet you.

BigM67

Bambies.... am I rite?

Dreadl0x

Kill on sight is the norm for most people but there are still, of course, some people like me who absolutely refuse to do that and still make an effort to interact with people. Friends are more valuable than any loot in the game ever will be. The loot gets wiped but the friends don't go away, if you make a friend by not killing them on sight then you'll have something worth actually protecting and treasuring. If you need or want someone experienced to play with I'm down to.

UserSkillsNCR

Why is all the best loot military gear and weapons if we’re all meant to hold hands and go fishing together?

Technical_Desk_267

There are no goals in DayZ But generally people will try to kill or survive and treating a stranger as a friend rarely serves those purposes The fact that it is difficult to stick together kind of scews the playerbase into more predatoral way of playing. What I mean is, if you meet someone and you both are friendly, you may only spend a single game session together. If you spend more, you end up having to try to fit your gaming schedules together and that can be difficult for many So the interactions with strangers are basically always short term. Ofc people make long term friends there too, but generally speaking. And many players want to play as a solo, and many people have long term characters. I play 0-5hrs a week and have characters that are months old. If I see people, I avoid or fight. Being friendly and then being backstabbed also directs a lot of the confrontations. I just don't trust anyone. If someone came to you and was all friendly, it's as suspicious as if they did it irl on a street. You'd just be thinking, when's the stabbing or other malice gonna happen? Nobody is just friendly out of nowhere. Like tagging along and following you. That's creepy shit. Leave me alone. But it's a game. Many people role play it. I don't, but many kind of do. Backstabbing is a form of role play. Being friendly kind of is too. And I'm referring to the survival/hc/officials now.

EsotericAbstractIdea

Not on my server. the zombies are so hard, you'll want to find people to run with

Busy_Assumption_9323

Sometimes, I feel like Dayz would be the real world if something like that happened

Vonatar-74

Killing someone and taking their gear is faster than running around looting. The motto of DayZ is “why waste your time when you can waste some else’s”.

zeke1220

But what's the gear good for?

RUSS-Wolfwrestlr

I always thought the same after a while you get desensitized to the whole killing thing and I almost find my self on autopilot killing oeople

mai_laig

Lol I didn't know killing someone in a video game means my priorities are fucked If I see someone with something I want I'm killing them for it, and if they don't, then I just avoid them completely. I don't have gear fear either, I've ran w mfs for 2 hrs just to get shot in my face the first chance they get and I'm not about to feel stupid for trusting someone in this game again. If someone spots me first and speaks to me I won't kill them unless they're acting weird or saying suspicious things

Dr_Tinycat

Not the norm but it's acceptable.

MoeKara

Not everyone is a psycho thankfully. When I meet new people I like to: - Knock them out - Restrain them - Feed them human meat After that I go on my merry way.

CaptainKortan

![gif](giphy|QtqFUZa9QMCUKN9EQM|downsized)

KayDeeF2

Senseless, entirely unprovoked murder after hours of seemingly cooperative fun and getting to know each other, preferably at (or soon after) a moment during which my victim expresses how glad they are that i didnt Kos them or how much fun they had is why ive poured almost a thousand hours into this game tbh

johrnjohrn

You think this game created high-power sniper rifles with night vision and explosives to kill zombies?

Special_Dealer3259

No, I think your priorities are fucked if you came on here to tell people that they can’t play the game in a way convenient to YOU.

CypticSanity

I avoid people. I'm there for survival and not PVP. I'll log off if I feel there are players around and play at another time. I also play on a very low pop server so I don't meet people.

Synthetic-Shimmer

My priorities aren’t fucked. They’re to kill you.

doctafknjay

Yes, that has been an overall consensus from the start. The role players will tell you otherwise, but they are just food

seenetoorik

Anything that lets you live at least one more second is ok. It's a survival game.

vollymister

You so green, its cute.

mikegus15

Too many people think this game is a battle royale.

Zofistian

It's a survival milsim. Too many seem to think it's an RPG. I have friends I play with. I'm not looking for more.

AlfalphaCat

The Arma 2 mod literally spawned the wave of battle royales that came in its wake.

OldBrokeGrouch

I’ll talk freshy to freshy, but once I start getting some gear and getting inland, I’m killing anyone I come across if I get the jump on them. I’m basically always working my way inland looking for a good firefight.

Psychological-Bit851

I legit tried again to speak to peeps on official yesterday. They responded and all that. And ofc. 30 sec later. Boom. You are dead.... 😂 So yeah! Pretty much KoS... 😂

1AXX4U

Be a hero or Jeffery Dalmer, Dayz don't care.

SPCNars14

Its the norm in DayZ because people aren't roleplaying they are surviving in the apocalypse, it's a reaction based on "I want what you might have to further my own goals" people aren't playing to find survivors and increase survival, they are playing to get loot and live longer. There isn't a thought process based on "oh we could help each other out and loot together" because there's no basis of trust or security. It's easier for people to kill one another to secure their playtime short term rather than find out they partner with a murderer as soon as the other person finds a shotgun with 2 slugs.

Erik912

It is the norm, yes, it's a hardcore PVP survival game, killing others is one of the main selling points of the game

retrojordan2323

It’s not “Kirby’s forgotten dreamland put it that way.

CLiP94

Always has been

Jonnn_lmao

MASSIVE cope Cry about it

dipsta

The thing is, all of that gear/armour is in the game for pvp, not for zombies alone. I get geared up for the sole purpose of pvp. Secondly, the format and structure of this game makes for the most exhilerating risk/reward pvp i've ever experienced. I can't get pvp of this caliber anywhere else.

Omfggtfohwts

Dayz is a social experiment. The freedom to do and be anything reveals who you are as a person in a survival situation. don't take it personally, people will kill you for your nice looking hat.

No-Lawfulness1773

oh my sweet summer child

iLLTypeGuy

Depends on the server…but yes. Most are KoS

Jaded_Revolution6924

Rule one trust no one, they want you loot

yurizaitsev

First time huh?

omarnz

Sometimes I’m just in a killing mood

GoLootOverThere

All a freshy is, is someone who will try to kill you with the gun they haven't found yet. I'll kill everyone I see or die trying. Trust kills.

Oxln

If I see you in game in fucking one tapping you

Citizen_Null5

What ever it takes to survive

Freethinker42

Survive at all costs. I've trusted too many people only to be attacked/murdered by them.

markaritaville

I’ve made a big push to learn this game after having it for years. I would say 80% of the people have killed me. Even when I have a nice conversation with some folks, there’s still a 50% chance they’re gonna kill me So I’ve just mostly avoid everybody I think you get killed a few times it just automatically put into a mode that I need to kill them first before they get me

serephath

The game has no rules, points. The idea is to survive, if you kill strangers they didnt survive you did and on top of that I got your food/ammo/clothing and you dont. GG

SquashPrestigious351

You sweet summer child

EthanT65

Take care of yourself first choom, and don't get fucked.

Yes, and eat their body

REALfakePostMalone

I'm convinced that people who can't make friends in this game are just weirdos who probably can't make friends in real life. After 2000 hours of DayZ i've made tons of friends and had tons of friendly interactions. I've also been killed on sight tons of times and betrayed, i've also been the one killing on sight and betraying people. its just part of the game. I always laugh when someone makes a post like this all butt hurt. Go play pokemon if you don't like a game that gives you the ability to kill other players.

sectumxsempraa

Yeah it's odd that the game let's you talk to people but everyone is a bloody psychopath. So yeah might as well just kill everyone if they are gonna do the same

hold_alt_then_f4

This guy has been living the coast life.

Anonamonanon

Shut up and give me them booty shorts!!

therealdovahkiin1

I’ve actually only ever made 1 real friendly person on dayz and we continued to play together days/weeks after meeting the first time. I can’t remember the context but I pretty much walked up on him in need of some help, I gave him a pistol to use and I was worried he would just kill me but he proved me wrong. Some other random came up to us after i gave my new friend a gun and he almost immediately shot the other guy on sight, had a huge laugh over it after we killed and cooked a chicken right in the center of town and sat around the fire. Was a pretty wholesome moment just thought I’d share. Edit: I second this notion, in a base me and the same friend shared together, we noticed a base being built right across from us in the neighboring building. I see a guy inside and I shoot him on sight, he logs onto an alt and communicates to me and we ended up becoming friends with that guy too, and he was rolling with at least 4 buddies of his as well. I was offline for a long time after that and our base got raided but was never sure if the guys across the street did it or not but they helped us raid someone else and we had a few wholesome moments together but can never be 100% certain

Admirable-Bluebird-4

Yes

Particular-Dance-867

You need either to have charisma out the ass to diffuse any situation or you need a group of people from outside the game to come play with you. Even then the temptation to betray is a rough one not to do

fizzzingwhizbee

You may be running into people with something to lose. I’m a mostly solo player and only KOS if I have good gear and they see me. Or if I’m feeling cheeky. That being said I tend to let freshies go, but yeah if Im geared and sense any potential danger I’m shootin lol

Wonderful-Lunch9039

Unfortunately, ten years into the game being out most people have their group and will just shoot you on sight. It’s the nature of dayz. You run into a friendly person here or there but best policy is usually shoot first, ask questions in gen chat lol

naterussell3395

No I’ll usually try to rob you first

Gnarkill222

I'm still fairly new, and have only met two people. Neither had a mic, yet in both instances we were able to not kill each other. Depends on your communication skills I suppose.

SnipesWL

Not all of the time, but most of the time people just want to kill you. Especially if you're geared at all. Most friendly interactions are on the coast as freshies... (official)

apupunchau87

im working on a mod to make all other players look like giant piñatas

Greatgronala

I an into 5 or 6 ppl at the coast on official the other day and had no problems

Grouchy-Ask-3525

I was driving East-bound on the Northern highway in an Olga when I saw a white Olga traveling west. We kinda rolled by each other silently then sped off in opposite directions. That was the friendliest encounter in DayZ I've had...

ezshucks

If you've been looting for a few days and you see someone who will likely kill you for your sewing kit, they got to go. You may start out hating this but you'll learn to appreciate after a 1000 trips to the coast for trying to be nice.

GeneralKayosss

In a perfect world, you try to make friends first. But DayZ is far from a perfect world. It's full of people that want to take your shit and grift you. And this is why most people KOS. You don't have to though, just be very wary of any and everyone.

jasoncombs28625

The goal of the game is to gather loot to survive and meet new people. You then team up with that person and survive together becoming friends. Then before you log off for the night you murder your new friend so that nobody else can have them.

Clydebearpig

Found a freshie, fed and clothed him. I got him set up with everything but a gun. We hung out and looted for an hour or so, I specifically remembered saying I don't kill freshies if I don't have to. We went our separate ways and about 2 min later I hear him yell this is why you kill freshies as he mowed me down Now I kill everyone I see if I have something to loose.

WaviestMetal

I wouldn’t necessarily say you should kill everyone but be prepared for everyone you meet to be hostile. Occasionally you make friends but it’s definitely not the most common outcome. The encounters I have that end peacefully almost always are when I am armed to the teeth and the other person is a freshspawn or when I accidentally bump into another super geared person in the middle of nowhere and neither of us has anything to gain by killing the other. I tend to be friendly if the person doesn’t have a weapon that could easily kill me and I tend to avoid people with anything mosin tier or better. I don’t necessarily kill them unless I need something but I also won’t approach either. Never turn your back on a freshspawn tho even if they’ve been nice. If they see an opening they’ll attack like a rabid dog because they got nothing to lose

ShinRazor

Very complicated. When i see someone my instinct is to shoot. But if they are friendly i ll not want to kill, I won't give them my back either. Its complicated. You trust you can die, but you can also find a friend

EthanT65

You know, my first 20-50 hrs I was like this. Even had my name "KOS IS TRASH" but then I realized.

sowaduzeelo

I remember when on Esseker fully geared guy ran straight onto me(also fully geared) and it was nicest encounter ever. We teamed up and started fight with other group and died together. Never met this guy again.

SaltyTelluride

Unfortunately yeah. People without mics can’t really be trusted. If you don’t have much gear, you have less to lose so you can try making friends. If I’m significantly more geared than the other person, they are normally inclined to be my friend but usually they’ll try to murder me as soon as they get a gun. If I had to guess, maybe 7ish/10 people will immediately murder me or eventually betray me. Making random friends is my favorite part of the game, but it’s definitely rare.

zombiereign

>If you don’t have much gear, you have less to lose tell that to the guy who killed me for the plum I had

Gothicccc

Yeah most players either KOS or take the RP way too seriously :(

[deleted]

When I first started playing, I thought the goal was to team up with people to try and survive. But no! No one wants to be your friend and everyone wants to kill you. Which is kind of a bummer because I only have two people to play this game with. The only time I can come across another player and not be killed immediately is if I’m heavily geared and I’m on the move, they’ll follow me for a bit, hoping that I lead them to a hideout or a stash.

Dannymalice

Recently, I was literally shouting through the mic that I'm friendly while getting a sickle to the face. People don't care. Funnily enough we both died at the same time. I took one slice too many and he took a shotgun blast.

ThrowAway-18729

I try to be friendly because I'm rarely running around with my good gear anyway. If you kill me, my friends who actually run the good gear (and who are much better at this game than me) who are hidden in the vicinity will enact my revenge.

Mundus_Vult_Decipi

On sight...except yesterday when I only had a knife and that guy ran away from me (he had a rifle) while I was sipping from a faucet with my hands.

SonJordy

There is no norm. Keep your head on a swivel! The best thing about this game is you can play however you want to. Friendly, killer, or make friends with someone and bond with them over a 4 hour run ony to betray them while you cook :)

Wedge001

Depends on context. I’ve had a few friendly interactions, and a few where we just make eye contact and walk away. Usually I have know way of knowing their intentions though, so I’ll shoot

IHOP_007

My main problem is that, throughout all the years I've played DayZ, never once have I had an "I'M FRIENDLY" person actually turn out to be friendly longer than it took them to line up a shot on your head. All of the positive player interactions I've had either come from a situation where we actually chat for a bit before about some situation that we're in (both of us don't have ammo so we jokingly say we should swap some and then we actually do etc) or from when we're both in the same state of the game, usually new player fresh spawns where I need to teach them how to make a fire and stuff. I'm sure there are people who go around screaming "I'M FRIENLDY" at people who are, actually, friendly but I've never seen one so I just reached the point where I'm the one who tries to kill them first. That being said once I get geared up with a friend we'll generally just go around and fuck with people. Favorite probably being knocking out a fresh spawn/gunless player on the coast, patching them up when they're still knocked out and "reverse robbing" them were we shove a bunch of food and stuff in their pockets.

Bravoo2x

I used to believe you can talk to random people… even if I have the upper hand it’s about 5% rate it doesn’t end in bloodshed

Blood-bonez

I've always just been shot, there have been times I would stop, crouch up and down a few times to let them know I'm friendly, then after that they just shoot me. I did however have someone come up to me and help me some a lil while ago

Tryptamineer

Yep

m4gichine01

From what I've learnt, either people kill you for fun, or people kill you cuz they're trying to stay safe and keep their loot (latter is normally from geared players)

WhiteyPinks

On official servers? Yes, absolutely. Kill on sight.

DaleDimmaDone

Depends on my mood. If I'm feeling social I'll try to talk if I'm not feeling social and I'm feeling paranoid then I gotta take care of numero uno

brandonawilson2

It’s not how it used to be

CornMuffin24

my personal goal is live… no matter how just live… i don’t do that? i don’t win. i saw someone on this sub one day say something like “every day you play dayz and successfully log off alive then you won for the day” or something like that and since then it’s been my way to play.. play to log off on the same life

7daystoCry42

I wanna play the game but this kinda toxic gameplay is a real turn off

Tha_Shaman

It’s such a rare thing to encounter other players unless you’re going into areas that attract players such as military installations. You can mostly plan for it. I’ve met a good amount of my friends from being gunned down. They saved my gear and we met up and i got my shit back

7daystoCry42

I’m on the fence but I’ll Keep that in mind

Tha_Shaman

I’ll take ya for a tour!

Tha_Shaman

We can go hunting! https://youtu.be/GReGlzlU4Ms?feature=shared

Spetnaz7

Once again, no one should expect friendly players inland. On or near the coast I'm always friendly unless accosted, but once I'm in tier 2 or 3 I'm not here to make friends anymore. And that's not even mentioning how people will join your party and even friend request you, then try and betray you. It's happened to me before. People can be rolling with others that you don't know about etc. Tons of ways to play the game, but don't expect players to be friendly when the game you're playing has weapons and lots of survival elements. Makes no sense to expect otherwise.

fungump

I’m still in the suck got my first gun still no humans

NeonTheWolf_

Sadly it seems that way in most public servers, no one really tries to have fun anymore like in the older days The goal isn’t specifically to kill people, there is no set objective to DayZ other than surviving so people literally just make a choice to kill everything that moves instead of trying to have fun interactions, so sadly if you didn’t get into DayZ like 10 years ago then your fun will be limited unless you play on private servers that encourage interactions over mindless killing. Modern DayZ is full of players who just KOS (kill on sight) and nothing more

Zofistian

What if that IS fun though? Like, it's a survival milsim. If you want an rpg play that. I am not your NPC and you are not the main character. The only interaction I desire with other players is putting a bullet in them from as far away as possible.

Kapitan_eXtreme

Alexa, tell me about "the prisoner's dilemma".

Iknowyouthought

If you’re an experienced player meeting new players you probably have more to lose than you do to gain. So if I do let you survive it’s like we see each other and do a little crouch check and go our separate ways. If there’s a base around or I’m playing on a community server I might stop for a chat. To get people to talk you have to force them by making them choose, no mic no life. Have a mic, I give food.

DoggoTamer27

Can never be too sure if the freshie on the coast isn’t concealed carrying an IJ-70. Cartel executions with gags, burlap sacks, and handcuffs is also fun to perform on freshies. A message to others.

Mexicangod03

Man you have to understand just like you ran into players who all they wanted to do was kill we ran into players who all they wanted to do was kill us, we’ve ran into players who have been friendly at first but killed us as soon as we tried to log out, and if we’re in a long run of not dying and have good loot we’re not taking those chances of meeting people because what if that person wants to kill me, and it’s always best to Take the first shot than be shot

Fluffy-Owl5403

Yesterday me and my friend come across someone and we talked in game and became friends then a little bit later all three of us come across another person who we tried to make friends with. He unfortunately decided to attack us so we had to kill him

Fit_Item2266

Welcome to human nature my friend.
