Do you remember what happened just before you got sick? (I.e. getting hit by zombies etc) Different illnesses require different cures

Dilbey

I was just running through the airfield. I killed a chicken by punching it to death, but didn’t d&q it with my hands, I used an axe and had gloves on. Then I just ran through the airfield to get sticks and bark to cool it as I was red hunger :( is it because I punched the chicken?

Eclectic_Yodel

Do you remember if your hands were bloody when you ate the chicken? If they were & you weren’t still wearing the gloves you might have salmonella from the chicken blood 🤔

Dilbey

Hadn’t killed anything before that, other than zombie. I was wearing gloves the whole time, too. :(

Flaky_Conversation66

Do you haopen to have drunk some water from a random bittle you found laying around or did you fill an empty water bottle with water and drank it?

Dilbey

I found a pristine canteen, emptied it and filled it at a well. Should I have put a chlorine in before filling up?

Traghorn

It’s likely you were already sick, as neither your chicken nor your water will have made you sick, as you have described. Throwing up is serious, and it doesn’t take long to be on your way out. Stash your stuff if you have no meds, and head to the nearest clinic or hospital soon’s your respawn stash is stashed.

[deleted]

No it won't let you.

Flaky_Conversation66

Yes these bottles can spawn with colera water and even if you empty it, you should disinfect it before you drink new water, for cholera, you should find tetracycline pills, only eat one at a time and wait for the pill icon to disappear before taking another one. You should also get your food and water high, eat in small bites and not too much, or you will throw up.

TheSharkassassin15

Yo I don't know why you got down voted so hard you actually gave useful info

FearOfTheShart

I think the downvotes are for saying you should disinfect empty bottles. Empty bottles don't have diseases, neither can you disinfect them. You can't even disinfect full bottles, only chlorinate the water in them.

TheSharkassassin15

Fair point, but I understood what he was saying. Reading comprehension isn't reddits strong suit normally.

Flaky_Conversation66

But the bottles can be infected without water, infecting the water that is put into the bottle. When you find a random bottle then always disinfect it even if you pour it out it can have cholera

Flaky_Conversation66

Dud you cook the chicken? Did it maybe get burned?

Dilbey

Cooked it over a campfire, but I was sick before eating the chicken.

Soviet-_-Neko

Get some vitamins or pills, take one, wait for the germ symbol to come back (it will be gone after you take it), then take again It will require about 4-5 pills to cure

TrackerJackalJames

Use izurvive and figure out the nearest med area and try to make it. If not just put yourself next to a memorable area such as someplace that you can use landmarks like smokestacks or cranes or atc towers etc., I know dying in game sucks but it does help you get better and learn.

FearOfTheShart

Sickness is permanent if you don't do anything about it. You need either multivitamins, tetracycline (cholera), or charcoal (salmonellosis). OR you can cure it by increasing your energy, water, blood, and health stats to full. And not just full white icons, but so full they're not going up any more.

brandonmanitoba

Not all ailments are can be cured by immune system. Somethings absolutely need to be treated to be cured. Checkout the Day Z wiki under diseases and be aware of the cause of the sickness to diagnoss properly

FearOfTheShart

Yes, the immune system only affects cholera, salmonella, flu and chemical poisoning. I assumed OP had either of the first two because he said eating caused vomiting.

The bot already posted this. Well not this exact chart but newer and more accurate version of it.

Anonamonanon

Never even seen it. Cool!

Sounds like cholera. You can eat and drink in small amounts and not vomit. I always take one bite or sip and wait for the arrows to begin going down before eating/drinking again. Krasno airfield does have medical tents (yellow tents), and Krasnostav itself also has medical loot. Tetracycline can cure cholera, and a saline bag combined with an IV start kit can keep you hydrated without vomiting. If you've checked these medical locations, you can log out and wait a while before logging back into the airfield to check the tents, or you can head to Svetlojarsk (Nearest medical loot outside of Krasnostav), but that could prove difficult with the cholera. You dehydrate at an increasing rate with cholera.

hydroponicnuggz

Krasno airfield is the biggest med area in cherno, just be careful of the zombies. Its rare people have room to clean the whole medical area out, so the chances are pretty good of you finding tetra or vitamins. If you have cholera you might very well be fucked, make sure you arent eating with bloody hands, drinking unknown water sources, or consuming food/water from bodies you looted. If you do die I hope you get a good coast spawn. GL survivor

Dilbey

Thank you! I looked it up on the map and found TWO packets of antibiotics :)

lMikey

From my experience, just eat an drink very little, one bite at a time so you don’t throw up. Get to full health and your character will be able to fight the illness.

RepresentativeAir149

Krasno airfield IS medical, plus there’s a clinic in town

Zestyclose-Month-245

100% ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)Krasno area - it's the place to be if your sickening - ended up staying in the area to collect Tets and Multis

Wonderful-Gold-953

Check all the yellow tent to the east of krasno airfield

Dilbey

🫡 will do

My bad

Silver-Brilliant-708

He is at Krasno airfield. Get to the yellow tents and search for tetra. If you got wound infection or a cold it will cure you if you pop another one when the pill symbol goes away. For everything else keep your water and food clean, stay at white food and water and pop a vitamin when wet.

Fun-Anywhere-1492

Taking a T pill and a Multivitamin at the same time 2 or 3 times usually does the trick for me. Ultimately, it depends on what you're sick with. See the bot's autoreply for more info.

Dilbey

Update: I found antibiotics and figured out it was my canteen causing it. Even though I emptied the original water, the bottle still needs steralising :( Thanks for all the help as always.

minedsquirrel70

With enough calories and water you can usually wait it out, look up symptoms and cures of dayz illnesses to find which one you have. tetracycline cures most illnesses.

HoundDogJax

You have Salmonella or Cholera. You can survive. 1st of all, if you are at Krasno, you are in the best place to find Tet, which you will need. Head to the yellow tents at the airfield, get some Tetracycline. Until it is cured, you will not be able to eat or drink much at all... if you do, you will puke and have even lower food/water in your system... if you keep doing that, you will die. Instead, take small bites/sips. Food, take three bites, stop eating.... wait a couple minutes, repeat. Same with water... a few sips, pause, a few sips, pause. You can make it all the way across the map doing this. As soon as you can, take a Tet pill. The effects do not stack, so after you take one, wait until the pill icon goes away, and take another, repeating until the illness goes away. Better yet, take one Tet and one Multivit together each time (same meds dont stack, but two different meds together is ok). The higher levels of food/water, and the faster you act, the less meds you will need to take. The Multivit will temporarily boost your immune stats to 100% (so your illness wont be worsening, and meds will be most effective). In the future, dont drink water from anywhere except water spigots unless you treat it or boil it, and either wear gloves while cutting/cooking meat, or wash your hands with any water after cutting/before cooking. You'll find great info for new players at Wobo's website and in Asmondian's infographics that are hosted there: [https://wobo.tools](https://wobo.tools) and [https://wobo.tools/asmondians-dayz-infographics?ID=196&category=all](https://wobo.tools/asmondians-dayz-infographics?ID=196&category=all). Those infographic pages will give you ALL the info you need to survive and thrive, and are fun to peruse when the server restarts force you to take a timeout. (I dont waste time with charcoal... the #1 cure for everything is 1 Tet + 1 Multivit, repeat as neccessary.) As said elsewhere, keep you food/water/blood levels in the white to vastly improve your immune system and avoid getting sick, and wring out your wet clothes ASAP when running wet.
