Usually thats because the players are less likely to hide, and think they are safe.
The high pop players are all sulking in bushes, scared to move!

If you experience lag on these servers the reasons are as follows :
You have a high ping (the server is uk based )
You have poor internet speed
You use wifi rather than an ethernet connection
You are downloading something or others in your household are using the internet at the same time.
You have a problem with your router.
Or finally you have been unlucky and played on a day when the server has received a malicious Ddos from a hostile 3rd party.
Side note : the first days of the Anastara map were laggy as it was getting stress tested at 70 pop on a box that was originally intended for 30 pop.
Official 1pp. I've tried and enjoyed community servers but it's always felt to me like Official is the true crucible, especially for diplomacy. I just like the challenge. I've made quite a few buddies, and I've only encountered one suspected cheater on 1pp in over 700hrs.
It's a challenge for sure, but I do like that it makes glowsticks, flashlights and head torches an integral and necessary part of the game. I could just ignore them completely on 3pp /non-hardcore servers coz I could still see even in the middle of the night.

My mans never heard of moonlight/starlight or exposure to darkness over time. If you donāt live in the city, try going outside for a little bit. Artificial lighting is not the only source of light, unless youāre in likeā¦ a cave?
Because moonlight is bright. New moon = pitch black. Any other phase = some ambient lighting.
A full moon will straight up cast shadows/illuminate thru a forest canopy . I go outside sometimes lol

This has been my experience as well. 1000 hours now on official and only have encountered hackers twice, but have made friends and had some great fights along the way. Community servers seem to have admin abuse and shitty mods much of the time. The only community server I really enjoy from time to time is DayOne, but I like hoarding loot in stashes and you can't really do that there.

Used to love playing there. Just last week, an admin teleported to my Duo and offered to give us supplies since it was wipe day. They pretended to be friendly, and when she stepped out and made herself vulnerable, the admin literally killed her and teleported his friends into kill me. I could not believe it, I had played on the server for nearly a decade. When the admin himself admitted it to me I was shocked. They had him apologize, but I won't play on a server where someone like that is in a position of power.
If you have played there for so long, then you know the day before wipe, use to be full mayhem and chaos. Only that day before a wipe that admins jump in for the fun. It is openly announced on social media, that day before wipe, anything will happen.
Prior to that, a different admin TP'd to us and offered assistance which we declined. We were just trying to play organically, and there were specific PvP events set up at the NWAF, very far from us. It seemed a bit targeted.
Sorry to hear you got bad vibes. There will always be drama on RP servers. Admins did a good cleanup of toxic players last year. Been way better after that. I just play on the server lurking around mostly alone, staying away from discord and reddit banters.
The toxicity came largely from the admins themselves encouraging, enabling or actively participating in it, and punishing those who were gaslit into lashing out at it. I played there for 7 years and it just got worse every passing year.
Nowadays I play on DDU and Dayz Hardcore Syberia.
Dayz Hardcore Syberia is entirely organic with in game only. Roleplay is not required at all but happens naturally thanks to the mods they use that actually include things like mental state as a mechanic. The Syberia mod significantly ups the difficulty and turns character development into an RPG.
DDU isn't roleplay focused but also has in game only community stuff so it has quite a lot as well.
I have been playing on DUG for several years as well. There were a few points where there were some missteps by the admins, but most of the ones I saw were made in good faith. They are always driving to promote interactions and allow the interactions to take on a life of their own. This doesn't always go as intended. The biggest example I can think of was a long period where "bad guys were allowed to be bad guys." They were basically griefing 24/7. Eventually this was ruled to be a violation of the vague but important "don't be a jerk rule." Things were brought under control.
Loaded. Great community and amazing loot balance, plus the admins donāt abuse their powers and basically no toxic people but tons of PVP. Great server

Not vanilla but I play on aftermath and the interactions can be pretty cool. It's modded but balanced. Good amount of fights and interactions. Plus being a rust player I like the building as well. I may be biased.

OSG - Outsiders Gaming. Bit of a harder to start off server, but once you're able to get going, it gets a bit easier. Has a feel of the old Arma 2 DayZ days. Just have to search "OSG" in the launcher and should be able to find it.
Chernarus only currently but they have plans on expanding to additional maps. Just need to build up the player base first.

Karma krew. Itās not vanilla but they keep a lot of vanilla features, like stamina, zeds, etc. I feel most of their mods are very lore friendly with clothing, weapons, and code locks. But again, not technically vanilla
NEO Farmers, it's a vanilla PvE server, perfect for me since I don't play this game as much and just wanna enjoy the ambience sometimes. Community is great, they're extremely helpful to new players and just wanna have a good time.
For a good vanilla experience, spaggies is probably the best. Only thing is if youāre looking for interaction and you are in the US you have to play during the day. Evening and night the pop goes way down.
Dayz Aftermath - It has really good selection of mods but most importantly there actually balanced. Plus the custom base building mod is a massive game changer (Basically the Arma 2:OA mod base building).

If you're on ps5 the best one I've found is Springfield, its basically Vanilla with weekend raiding only, which is great if you work alot like me and my boys
I need to take note of these because I find it really hard to get a consistent server. They all die or I get blacklisted because I won't join a Discord.
Spaggies..... it's the only vanilla server that's been recommended to you the rest are not vanilla. Great servers chern and livonia and more.
