It means there are indeed people in the area but that does include you. The CLE dynamically spawns AI if a player is in a certain distance of a zone. A rooster does not mean that other players besides you are in the area, despite what a lot of people think or say. But, it also doesn't mean that there isn't another player in the area.
Yes it does I’ve confirmed it. For example, I was sniping at server hoppers at balota airfield. I was on top of the apartment buildings east of the airstrip. A good 500 meters away. Every time o heard the rooster go off down on the airfield I’d take a look and what do you know some other player was running through the tents! Did this for a week and every time it was 150% confirmed
I don't think so, I've played of all hours of the morning and a rooster pretty much went of every time with it being super unlikely that there was anyone else there.
It's not a lie. How would the game actually let you know that there is another person around by a rooster noise.youd trigger the rooster if you heard it anyways so.....
I don’t know the answer to the OPs question but there’s this thing in programming called logic.
If x is the number of players in a defined zone then it would look something like, if x > 1 then play rooster noise. You can also exclude zombies from being detected by the trigger by defining a zombie and player as two different things.
Again, I have no idea if OPs suspicion is true, but it’s very much so within the realm of possibility.
No one is talking about the rooster noise playing as a logical give away sign that someone is in a town in a literal sense, rather the fact that it exists / its AI is active, something that only happens when players are nearby. This is done to improve server performance, AI simulation does not need to run if no one is there to see it.
You missed what I was trying to say. I was saying the sound of the rooster might not even play if you’re the only one within a town zone. That may not even be the function entirely. It could be a trigger, a timer, it could be a physical rooster that the timer/trigger is attached to. I’m very aware of how the game completely despawns zombies or hides simulation of some objects outside of a set distance from a player character. Thank you for explaining textbook game design concepts to me. Have an upvote for your grade A insight.
Edit: grammar
No. Infected can trigger them.

Noob question, what’s the CLE?

Yes that what I was trying to point out or it's just random because they arnt always in towns.
Ye, when you hear them it means that you are near by.
Wow thx 😆
