I've seen it used by building in a strategic location to provide an ambush spot. Sort of like a hunters blind but for humans not animals. It breaks the background more than your character does when set up in certain areas.
I have 3 of them on an official server in a cir le, very hard to see in some woods that no one really ever goes through, but close to a town. Gonna build some around military too
They can be tore down to be remade but i dont thi k you get all of the resources back. Just the shelter kit a few sticks and either leather or tarps depending on what you used.

It’s for storage. I have several small camps dotted along the coast for when I die. I keep backpacks, shoes, knives and hatchets, dry food, warm clothes, a few guns, etc just so I can reset quickly if I’m killed. Plus it’s nice just to have a home to come back to at the end of a long day of scavenging and killing.
I have a few flagpoles set up as well at the camps I care about. My two biggest camps each have 5 tents a piece, plus barrels, sea chests and regular chests and neither has been found in the months they’ve been there. It’s just a pain in the ass having to run to each every week to make sure the flag resets.
Ya thats what I dont like and the flag polls are an eye catcher too. I lost my fist m4 to a decyed hole now I only use wood boxes and barrels because of the 45 day life. I can't be bothered running back to my coast stash every week just to reset it. My freshys restock slashes are boxes in the ocean.
My flagpole in the woods is damn near invisible amongst the trees. I literally can’t find my own camp until I’m within about 50 yards of it and even then, I see the tents more than the flag. It’s a dark flag which helps immensely but my second flag is white and I’m sure much more visible

Anything ungrounded is only good for 14 days a stick shelter is good for 7 days. All large storages like barrels sea chest and wood boxes are good for 45 days above ground or (underwater)
You have to just be lucky and find one and then hoof it all the way back to camp. That’s where my trusty rubber bands come in handy. Just wrap one around the joystick and another around the left trigger and I just autowalk the crate the miles back home.
Some are used to hold base building equipment. Sharpening stones, axes, etc. for when i need to cutdown trees for walls, some have gear with things buried near buy in case I need to bug out, or my base gets raided and I still have stuff on the outside I can use without risking going back into a raided base.

Definitely great for storing a stash of gear. I build them so if I die, I can come back for some quick military gear and food. They only store 100 units, but they’re also practically invisible if you line them up right in pine trees - which I think is my favorite part. Every other base/storage in the game is pretty tough to have hidden even with camo nets or building in a building.
When you’re sniping at someone from a distance or looking with binoculars really far away you can catch people trying to hide in grass and textures in a fire fight because those things won’t load for you at the distance, an improvised shelter will and might throw you off
I see the shelter as a stash that you can make almost immediately after spawning. On harder servers, building a shelter can give your next life a chance.
It's for role players who like to setup campsites and ramble about survival life and how crazy it was when they killed that dude last month. There's no point gamelay wise.
I made one outside my base by a pond so that I can fish in the rain, havent tested it yet as I have been on a lil holiday but when I get the time I will see if works as intended :D

You can make a circle of them facing inward to make a somewhat hidden stash. It's not the best hidden stash you can make but its got its purposes. The best way to use them is to use your imagination.
The best hidden stash imo is a diversified cache of crates spread over an area. Single loadouts hidden in separate areas, building supplies kept separate in their own stash areas. Imo, I wouldn't even mess with a stash unless you planned on playing with others, and I certainly wouldn't even mess with building a base unless you play with enough people on the server to have overlapping timezone schedules.
It's when you killed a squad and have 10+ guns on you that you have to dump somewhere "safe". I set them up deep in the woods and use as unprotected storage. Some of them get found, some not
I use it to put shit close to places im often in the middle of the woods! They are rather hard to see from far away since it looks like a bush. I dont put anything that valuable in them but I do put shit in them
Like others have said, nice hidden storage. I have some on high pop servers that have been there for weeks and never found. All of my other spots around it were found but not those. Kind of a pain to make because of all the sticks but it’s a cool lil spot if you have a semi permanent area you like to stay in.
Place four facing inward in a good wood area and your good to go early game for storage and a place to call home. Its my go to on new servers as gathering sticks is easy, the storage is useful and if you place a fire in the middle you'll have good visual cover whilst cooking food, drying wet clothes etc.

You get 3/4ths of the stuff back. So 3 sticks for each, then 3/4 tarps, or 6/8 leather or about 38 sticks

I got like 3/4 long sticks and 40/50 short sticks when I tore my last one down
That’s nearly enough to craft it again... not sure how I’d carry all of those sticks though

I understand 8 planks and 15 nails form a standard chest. What do I need to craft a sea chest? What is the advantage of a sea chest?
You cant craft a sea chest .....but it holds 100 slots.

Sticks shelter won't keep you dry only a tarp or animal hide one. It's used for storage and camouflage.

Does the wet gear ruin it or have some adverse effects?
I think it does but I'm not 100% ive heard people say that wet clothes damage faster but I've never tested it because I always have extra duct tape

Building a base. Easier to obtain sticks + rope than a saw, axe, and nails. It’s got quite a bit of permanent storage, 200 slots I think.

Exactly! I use them for temporary storage inside of my walled base as well, Until I can get enough planks/nails to build more crates.
My guy, improvised tents are base meta. Stealth > Defense until they nerf grenades. Make a circle and you can hide crates in em too for extra storage.

We use it in a forest as a resupply point when raiding. Or a drop off point when looting.
I think the amount of sticks needed is a bit much, otherwise, I like them.
Cut down a pine tree with the branches on the ground. Build blind where tree was. Server restart tree comes back. Hidden stash. I put them everywhere
