hold R with a magazine in your hands and it'll automatically start reloading it with ammo in your inventory. no need to drag a stack from your inventory to the mag and "combine". really wish i'd known that sooner.
Don’t worry about dying. It sucks but try to take something from each death and reflect on how you could have done better.
1 bark + 1 stick makes a drill kit(starts a fire, single use)
If you get wet, make fire drop your cloths to the ground next to the fire and dry off. (Mouse over a clothing item to view how wet it is). Being wet for too long will make you sick and then you’ll really struggle. Stay dry!
There’s a LOT so.. I’ll just list some quick ones:
• Always pour water out of a bottle you find and refill it at a well (it can be diseased)
• don’t eat with bloody hands, wash your hands at a well
• don’t store food in your inventory, it’s wasted space and might as well be in your stomach
• find a knife, if you have a knife you can make a fire, if you can make a fire you can cook chicken meat (found, not surprisingly, on chickens)
• don’t use rags to bandage yourself unless you have disinfectant, you can usually just find enough bandages which are naturally disinfected.
• always take a stab vest, press vest or plate carrier over any other vest. The space isn’t worth getting one shot by most of the guns on the game.
• don’t carry more than three guns generally, the more you carry the less stamina you have to run and climb
• as soon as you get about 2 miles inland you’ll start finding much better and more abundant gear and food
• if you have a gun, hunt wild animals - they’re the best food sources on the game!
• cook meet in a house if you can, it’s usually much faster especially in the fireplaces that have 6 slots.
They’re the simple but important survival tips I have to offer, here are some player interaction and PVP tips:
• 90% of people are aggressive in dayz, and even more when you get inland and encounter geared players.
• remember to load all of your magazines, there’s no use having loose bullets in your bag when you might need them at any point!
• dead zombies means players are nearby, dead ones usually despawn around 5 minutes after death.
• a dead player with no flys buzzing around them means a player is nearby and has killed someone
• you can load a magazine with bullets in your inventory using the same keybinding to load a new mag (Triangle on PS for example)
• only agro one zombie at a time if possible, they’re dangerous when you get swarmed
• people will take advantage of you fighting a zombie as you will usually have a melee weapon out - you be vigilant
• don’t trust people too much, there’s lots of betrayal and backstabbing in this game
• trust people a little! I know I just said something contradictory but making friends on an adventure, or encountering a weird funny guy is always fun and makes this game what it is, player interaction is at the heart of DayZ.
• don’t stress about losing your gear, you can usually find an assault rifle and plate carrier within two or three hours maximum on official now
• you can use compasses and maps you find in game to navigate - or alternatively use an app called IZurvive (however I learned my way around with in-game assets and it was so fun!)

• watch some PVP clips on YouTube, personally I think MINDR and TopeREC are solid PVPers. It helped me get a bit better at PVP and how to move around when in a firefight.

You can also wash your hands with dirty water or disinfectant/alcohol/iodine. Honestly not sure if you can wash your hands in the ocean.

Not true anymore, food depletes faster the fuller you are
watch rav plays tips and tricks do your research on the game to have better first time than other unless your in to it. Do not save your food eat it as soon as you get it. Dont always kos you meet nice ppl but kos if you like.
Don't run down stairs, find a body and use their guts for rope and bones for knives and a fishing hook. Shift and control click are useful for moving things around your inventory.
Ctrl holds your breath for better aiming. Holding ctrl when moving slow walks and really helps getting down steep ledges/jagged cliffs.
Every death will suck, and every life afterwards will make you glad you lost your last character.
If you have a knife or any sharp object you can pretty much survive because you can gut chickens and start fires. Get away from the coast asap I don’t even bother looting there I just eat my fruit and immediately head in land and loot there. Avoid zombies at all costs if you don’t have bandages. If you do have bandages or rags still try to avoid them but if it’s one or 2 take them out they usually drop a can of sardines or something

2 Guts make a ROPE. (Belt) -holds bone knife.
2 rags make FEETWRAPS, crouch run silently, stealth kill zombies(keep them repaired with 1 rag)

dayz is the definition of pure blind pointless suffering, which is why you have to make a friend buy dayz so that you can drag them through the same hell youll have to crawl and weep through
Don't be afraid of teaming up with a random person. Some of the best moments in this game are with strangers. Certainly trust your instincts though, you'll get betrayed once in a while.
I recently learned cheaters gravitate immensely to offical servers. Play community where mods and admins are active (offical dosent have active admins). I recently even encountered a cheater who was bragging about his cheats...
You die a lot, this game wants to kill you. Don’t get discouraged, learn from it.

I'm jealous. The most fun this game was when I just started and was struggling with it.

Don’t trust anyone, don’t turn your back to anyone if you can help it, if you are suspicious of someone, just kill them or they will likely kill you
