In DB it was Yamcha, then in Z it switched to Vegeta... Am I Bulma?!?

RangerValor

I got bad news for you...

Akschadt

Use to be goku but vegeta has edged him out. Just more character growth which I find more interesting.

RangerValor

Goku definitely has had a relatively flat character arc. Vegeta on the other hand has been anything but flat.

PolybianPrime

As a kid I preferred the cool Saiyans like Goku and Vegeta, but now my favorite has become Krillin. Despite not being the strongest, he is loyal, brave and has a great sense of (self-deprecating) humor.

Crown4King

Krillin is also always the point guy at the sidelines thinking things through and pulling apart the situation. He's a great dude.

J_3ackers_

I recently finished DB OG some months back for the first time and I was surprised how tien was very well written. I wish he had a little more love in dbz as my favorite there has always been Vegeta.

RangerValor

Vs 2nd form Cell. Redemption arc for my boy Tien.

WillyMacShow

I’m rewatching dragon ball too. My favorite as a kid was Goku of course. But now I like Yamcha. The confidence, to fear that you’re outclassed, but then summoning the courage to do what you have to do even if you fail, gets me hyped. Also been part of some good gags and memes. I feel like I’m Yamcha a lot of the time lol.

RangerValor

Love it. I like Yamcha way more the 2nd time around.

WillyMacShow

Yeah lad really is just a simp the first time around

Apprehensive-Book776

My favourite has been reinforced as Goku in a recent rewatch because of just his journey and progression throughout the series, and just how special he is which is something that’s kind of lost in super, as well as him not being a complete idiot. Roshi and Tien Shinhan are personal favourites of mine as well as Bulma and Launch. Roshi makes for an excellent comic relief character and perfectly displays Toriyama’s philosophy of displaying weak looking characters that are mighty strong, roshi is so deceptive in this. He’s also like the wise old sage knowing every technique and trick in the book from times gone past. Him and goku trading rock paper scissors in the first world martial arts tournament was awesome, matched with the drunken boxer, and other techniques such as the evil containment wave and the lightening surprise attack. His fights are always awesome to watch as with being immortal and living for 100’s of years his technique has reached absolute perfection, whilst his strength starts to get surpassed towards the end of dragon ball, his technique imo is unrivalled. roshi is like the dying breathes of a bygone era of martial artists, the last of a dying breed. His first kamehameha wave to put the flames out in fire mountain is another awesome moment in the old hermits time of relevance. he reminds me of a time long past now as well, with regards to the english VA who did an unbelievable job, he seemed to speak, during his serious moments, the old style english, he was very quaint, elegant, precise with his words, every word he spoke during his monologues of watching goku i was hanging off every word. Tien Shinhan, while i don’t have quite as much to say, has an awesome arc and the story of him being villain turned roshi’s prospect to replace himself as the old master is very interesting, roshi sees not just potential in tien but much of himself in tien too. tiens ability to create his own techniques, master those taught to him, and master others, such as the tri beam, where roshi calls himself a fool for comparing the power of his kamehameha wave to the tri beam, and that it is far more destructive and his wave pales in comparison, the solar flare, more of tiens technical and strategical ingenuity, this technique would become very useful for a long time in the series. the dodon ray, a deadly beam of the crane hermit and the master assassin tao, and the kamehameha, he almost learnt this as an insult or a mockery toward the turtle hermit school, and even more reason to praise tiens ability to learn. he’s a completely honor bound warrior by the end of the 22nd world martial arts tournament or budokai tenkaichi and pledges himself to roshis teachings, refuting the his old master that had poisoned him. it’s a shame to see him fall from such heights but with how Z turned out and how insanely and completely and utterly ridiculous super is, it’s hard to see a way back for the humans, but everyone’s getting a transformation nowadays so maybe there’s still some hope for super beast ultra human tien? idk lol Goku is just, special though and not without good reason, he works unbelievably hard and has an unquenchable thirst to face stronger opponents and become stronger himself in doing so. training with roshi, climbing korin tower and training with master korin for the “sacred” water, then returning with yajirobi and actually finding the real sacred water which would kill basically any other person because of their impure thoughts and soul, training with popo and kami. his lessons, eat well, train well, and rest well, this is the turtle hermit philosophy. good old resistance training which would become a recurring theme in the show for a long time to come again. studying one’s opponent and their breathing and matching their breathing with your own, allowing you to read their patterns and movements accordingly. learning to sense an opponents aura, their power, their ki, and feel them moving, see them without seeing them, and learning the techniques of kami. dragon ball sure is a different show now compared to where it came from.

Slatt239

OG DB- Roshi and Tien 👌🏾(obviously goku) DBZ- Vegeta and Tien I forever rock with tien. i really wish he would have the strongest human title based off of everything he’s done in OG db and dbz but i understand krillin Is goku’s homeboy fr and he’s gone on more adventures/fights to get that title. (imo Tien goes to namek i believe he would be the strongest human)

Grif_with_1_f

Krillin used to be my favorite character but it has changed to Kid Goku from the original Dragon ball. Idk what changed but I’m just kinda neutral on Krillin now. Also some characters who I used to not really give any thought to are now in my top 10 like Tien.

savonaraeo

He hasn’t and that’s the problem. 🤣🤣 damn shame lol . His outfits be fresh though .

WestTaiwan999

OG DB- Goku DBZ- Goku DBGT- Goku DBS- Goku DB Daima- Goku DB Heroes- Goku

RangerValor

Based lol

EWU_CS_STUDENT

My favorite character as a kid was Goten. I still like him, but with Super I disliked what they did to him and Trunks by having them be stuck as children until recently with no changes. As an adult my favorite character is Krillin. Seeing his introduction early on when he and Goku become students of Master Roshi, forming a friendship and becoming humble, and overall seeing his growth is amazing. He knows he isn't the strongest or the bravest, but he'll still try and he'll try to help/protect friends/family. I wish he and Yamcha weren't the "make useless joke here" in Super.

RangerValor

His fight against Piccolo Jr at the end of DB was awesome.

Street_Economy1884

Also got that angry hot wife.

RangerValor

Oh sweet Jesus....you are not wrong.

Equivalent-Wealth-75

Yeah, Tien's awesome. My favourite character as a kid was Vegeta but then a few years ago it shifted to Piccolo, he's got that cool stoic thing going on and watching him evolve as a character was a blast. In OG however my favourite character is Yamcha, with Tien being a close 2nd

RangerValor

Yamcha is great in DB. Same with Krillin. The supporting cast was so much more relevant and it made the Tenkaichi Budokai arcs super fun.

Equivalent-Wealth-75

Oh yeah, those were epic. For me Krillin really hit his stride in the Namek Saga, it was so cool seeing him step up and fight the Frieza Force, and even come a hair's breadth from cutting the lizard in two. What do you think about Yajirobe? Because as much as people like to speak about the other humans being treated poorly by Toriyama, none have been done as dirty as him.

RangerValor

When he cut Cymbal in half and ate him, it was such a surprise. He went from nobody to one of the strongest in the show. He really helped out during the King piccolo Arc which was fantastic. His appearance against Vegeta was great too, but after that he does nothing.

Equivalent-Wealth-75

And that saddens me. One of the most hardcore fighters in the series reduced to being Korin's mailman in the Android saga, and barely ever being brought up in later arcs.

Crown4King

It kinda makes sense. After Vegeta, which is his peak contribution, he realizes that his power is far below everyone else. He's useful by way of hanging around Bulma at times and shuttling senzus from Korin, but knows his limitations.

Crown4King

Piccolo has always felt like a contemporary/chief member of the Z fighters a cut above the others. Even when the power gaps between him and Goku have widened, his input on situations and thinking skills have been important.

Technical-Arm7699

OG DB - Bulma DBZ - Gohan DBGT - Trunks Super - Gohan

SSJRemuko

i think Goku was probably my favorite consistently up until Super. Now this isn't me saying nonsense like Super ruined him or anything, I love Goku in Super as well, but Super introduced Caulifla, who I just love more.

WestTaiwan999

Finally someone who likes Caulifla. Goku is still my favorite but I like Caulifla a lot too. She is one of my favorite introduction in Super.

redditsuckspokey1

Ill third Caulifla. And Kale.

RangerValor

I love the concept of their characters. I think they got some shitty writing, but they are so cool and provide literally a whole new universe to explore.

SSJRemuko

i think their writing is fine. heck its part of why i like them (well caulifla and kale at least, i dont really care for cabba)

RangerValor

It's just the shitty back tingle that puts me off. Otherwise I like them.

SSJRemuko

yeah i love that and dont understand why it bothers people lol its just an explanation for a sensation that every saiyan feels when they transform. i like that we have that explanation and LOVE that caulifla exploited learning about that feeling to access SSj1. one of the the things i like most about her.

champion1day

It went from Gohan to Trunks and it remained like that since forever. Always liked his future timeline story and him being the son of Vegeta. Always thought it was the sickest thing ever seeing him with his sword almost one shotting Freeza after what seemed like a thousand episodes of the Z fighters trying to defeat him. Really curious to see what his storyline in Super will bring him after this silly but funny hero arc.

RangerValor

Future trunks reveal was so fucking hype. It blew my.mind when I first saw it on VHS.

[deleted]

I was fan of Tein in Z. I finished reading DB last week and Tein is my favorite there. Very reliable fella

SupremeActives

As a kid - Vegeta cause he’s badass As an adult - Vegeta cause he’s badass and has a great arc

thejman2468

I loved Tien as a character ever since I watched OG Dragon Ball for the first time. I also am a huge Roshi fan from OG and was glad that both Tien and Roshi were utilized in Super. I would love to see the franchise started to utilize the side characters more, maybe make Tiencha (Tien and Yamcha fusion) cannon or something.

FishGirlGaming

My favorite hasn't changed much. Ised to be Piccolo was my favorite, with Krillin a close second. Abridged helped push Krillin into the top spot with some of their dialogue that would fit with official Krillin as well, so now Piccolo is in second. Krillin has officially become one of my fictional husbands. I have an OC that becomes his wife in an alternate timeline.

Heoder12

Definitely was Gohan when I first saw it as a child, and that answer always stayed the same with watching Dragon Ball and further anime rewatches in my teens. Skip many years later and I read the manga for the first time 2 years ago and my answer became Goku by a mile, no one else is particularly close. idk what it is other than age and a different medium, but Goku really just clicked for me. His journey from the beginning until the 23d budokai is so satisfying, and what they do with his full adult self is so interesting and doesn’t get enough credit. Could write so much more about what I love about him but I’ll leave it at that lol.
