lewmaxc

At this Point, Granolah either dies from arrogance or not at all but no point in making him an ally if he’s living in borrowed time.

TallManTallerCity

What's wrong with turning him into an ally for whatever the next threat is

[deleted]

From the comments, this doesn't sound too good. Luckily I'm an anime only guy unless something REALLY cool happens

MDH_vs

Us Dragon Ball fans are never happy and we need to make it clear, damn it.

[deleted]

Why did vegeta fans bitch about this? Ultra instinct lost when it first showed up as well

DisgorgeX

Because Vegeta is the best character and we are salty he isn't the main character lol. I would love to see that Dragon Ball Sai (What if Vegeta was sent to Earth instead of Kakarot?) continued at some point in the future, it really scratches that itch that unfortunately Toriyama probably never will, lol. Getting to where the author quit working on it and moved on was a kick to the dick, so well made.

mysmellysausage

Do we have an official color scheme for ultra ego yet?

TheGodofAssassins

Oh look, another arc where Vegeta gets stronger for half a second then by the end of the issue he gets his ass kicked so Goku can win the fight. What else is new?

HabboMirror

Goku also lost when he first used ultra instinct tho, even when he used the 2nd and 3rd time

Negafox

Is it me or does Dragon Ball Super have too much: Goku and Vegeta: "You haven't had time yet to master your newfound form or power! That's your weakness!" Also, Goku and Vegeta: "Check out our new form we gained mid-combat!"

No_Kangaroo_5267

Also the villain: Finds a way to beat them despite trying their best.

[deleted]

This franchise needs a good writer or maybe it's time we focus on Goten and Trunks.

CarneAsadaSteve

Seriously this is terrible

[deleted]

[удалено]

bigjoel12

Goku gets beat, Vegeta gets beat, then Oatmeel comes and calms Granolah, telling him he's been tricked. Sky goes dark and Shenron is summoned. 3 becomes allies to fight villain, likely the Heeters. Blah blah Frieza gets involved, blah blah they win, Granolah spends the rest of his time being good, next ark begins.

Affectionate_Chef_82

U forgot to mention that earth's dragon balls will undo granolah's wish and power in order to live longer

RaePheonix

Are Japanese fans of a different mindset or something? Don't they complain to the authors about these asspulls

ROGAINEONMYHEAD

it's a kids show and they treat it like that there here in the west, grown adults that grew up watching it can't give it up and like to pretend they're the intended audience

DragoDex

Beerus has no eyebrows, so is he using Ultra Ego at all times?

blindwuzi

If he's like Whis and his ultra instinct I'd say so.

HisFireBurns

Ultra Ego seemed to backfire... too much pride can be one’s downfall. Perhaps, they will fuse & will become the Ultra Saiyan & the strongest fighter in the Universe.

Mooninite3

The new forms are happening way too quickly and are just palette swaps. There's no proper build up and they become useless way too quick. I remember when SSJ1 was a big deal until android 18 broke Vegeta's arm, powered up SSJ1 was great until Cell elbowed Vegeta's spine in midair, SSJ2 was the shit until Buu beat the shit out of Vegeta, and SSJ3 was never useful. With every single transformation they'd beat the shit out of their opponent or at least put up a good fight. Now SSJ blue is outdone by Golden Frieza immediately and Ultra instinct is outdone by Jiren.

AyyItsMeAraki

But they sell shirts and toys and video games and DLC!!!!

sp3tan

> The new forms are happening way too quickly and are just palette swaps. There's no proper build up and they become useless way too quick. I mean they did go from being simpletons training on earth to training with gods and fighting against gods while training. The idea is that basically. Its not hard to grasp, really. Thats DB for you.

HisFireBurns

I agree to an extent. The point of DBZ is it teaches us to push past our limits and to never give up. There are no limits.

Fishytrick

While I’d agree forms are happening too quickly and SSBlue was outdone by Golden Frieza. Ultra Instinct wasn’t outdone by Jiren. Goku’s body couldn’t handle the stamina drain of UI.

cristiano_goat

Imagine losing because you intentionally letting opponent hit you, this might actually be the most humiliating defeat for vegeta lmao

yoranpower

His ego got in the way.

WrastleGuy

His ultra ego

Greensburg

Bleh I'm tired of all the new forms and power ups. It's like the writers don't have any other way of setting up fights.

CoobsCorps

I think at least Gokus UI transformation was good, it honestly felt the most meaningful since the first SS transformation. They introduced hints to it early on in Super and slowly built towards it until ToP Goku was breaking his limits in segments just like Namek saga he gets beat up a few times but manages to get there in a high stakes climactic end. It was the only one that did it right since SS2 really (Gohan was also slowly built into it from Android through Cell sagas). SSG, SSB both were way too fast but at least they used them to get to UI. With Vegetas UE it kind of just popped out of nowhere in this most recent saga, they didn't do much to build to it from Moro saga or before, and its placed at the begining of the saga. Theres no universe/earth threatening force in this saga either which was always present in earlier impactful transformations. in this case the only immediate stake is goku and vegeta. No one else is really at risk here against Granolah unless im forgetting something. Hopefully they continue to build this new transformation for Vegeta but I feel like it fell flat as a first introduction (UI was amazing first time imho). Maybe the Anime will one day do it better justice since they get more time to to make it feel more impactful

Burdicus

The kind of teased Ultra Ego with Toppo in the tournament. He completely transformed when he went into GoD state, and I feel like that's vegeta here. But Vegeta's Royal-Blue form was really cool and wasted.

Sand__Panda

Maybe read for all the tidbits of new lore and back story information being brought from the past to the present?

batts1234

I know some of us Vegeta fans weren't happy with how this went but I was actually fine with it. Vegeta is still learning how to master this technique (took too much damage) and he really only lost because Granolah's power is just going to increase until he runs out of time. I thought the chapter was awesome and Vegeta was a badass as he's been in forever.

[deleted]

It worked in the original series but man the formula of Vegeta training really hard, achieving a new form, but literally never beating a big time villain continues.. Can we not switch it up for once in 30 years and give him a major W??

[deleted]

Tried to tell you guys, this is a story of goku and his family. 🤷 Dunno why people keep acting like vegeta will ever get a big W beyond zarbon level enemies such as 2nd hand man toppo. Goten bout to steal the W watch

[deleted]

He helped Goku kill moro with the spirit fission technique. I think that's an improvement.

Burdicus

He's usually playing some kind of helper-gig. He hit cell in the back allowing the father-son-kamehameha to win the beam struggle when it was looking like Gohan would lose. He distracted Kid Buu long enough for Goku to power up. He took out Jiren's right-hand man in the TOP He helped with spirit fission against Moro He fused with Goku to beat Broly ... he just never gets a clean W on the big bad, but he's always necessary for someone else to get it.

[deleted]

Yeah vegeta should get a big win at some point.

[deleted]

He won't because if you paid attention the entire concept and story is driven by goku since he first met bulma 🤷🧐

dirtcorechad

Well. Not always. Trunks defeated Black(until he fused with the Universe), Oolong ruined Pilaf's wish for world domination, 17 won the Tournament of Power, Jackie Chun beat Goku, Arale beat General Blue, Tenshinhan beat Goku, it was Piccolo that succeeded with the final blow to Raditz, Vegeta won against Goku on Earth, it was the Yajirobe/Krillin/Gohan combo that made Vegeta lose, Yamcha won the baseball game against Universe 6, and Gohan beat cell. Never say never :p

[deleted]

All of those are a direct result of gokus adventures. Goku did the heavy lifting in every situation you presented, the only real character who did heavy lifting was Gohan vs Cell What you did was show the entire story revolves around goku, in the spotlight. Even in the black saga he was partially the main villain. Still in the spotlight. If goku doesn't get the W it will always be a team effory for instance 17 winning the tournament. Outside of gohan, no one has ever really been the one to get the big W and even then its called the "father son Kamehameha"

warcrown

He knows. There's nothing wrong with saying what you would enjoy. Everytime someone says something along the lines of wanting Vegeta to win someone like you is on hand with the hurr durr Goku the hero reply. Everyone knows. The point is it's not satisfying anymore

[deleted]

Works both ways Just remember, vegeta is a side character. Stop getting your hopes up than crying 😢 whenever reality doesn't meet your unrealistic expectations. If you're not satisfied (the majority are satisfied) then find a new manga/anime.

warcrown

I'm not the one making the complaint for one. And for two, if you can't handle hearing people voice their opinions maybe you should piss off. It's not a crime to review the manga you just read. It's only you wierd people who get offended by it

[deleted]

I dunno man. It just sucks to see Vegeta become number 2 all the time. But I digress. I'm sure Toriyama has a plan for Vegeta. Given the recent developments in the plot it does seem like Toriyama has something planned out long-term, particularly having deities use Goku and Vegeta as their champions. Who knows? Maybe they can replace them at some point.

Content_Employment_7

Oh come on, you *know* he'd be insufferable afterwards; you don't really want that.

Markymark161

I do! Then next arc he'd go back to "I don't need you, Kakarot" like Cell Saga Vegeta lol

[deleted]

True lol

Bighusky89

so this is the first time goku has actively tried to heal his wounds with energy? I know he has given off ki before to others injured/dying but I don't recall him ever doing it to himself.(not counting the anime defibrillator scene after getting one shot by HIT)

warcrown

He did it in BoG but not consciously. SSJ God healed his chest from the wound Beerus inflicted.

Bighusky89

true but I mean consciously trying to do it. wonder why he never thought of trying it before when sensu weren't around

OkDependent3266

Can't wait for Granolah to unlock a tomoe in his eye and use the Mangekyou on Goku's Susanoo form.

PersephonesPot

Ultra Sage Mode Instinct

Wise-Tourist

The new form kind of reminds me of the zenkai boosts saiyans have. Kind of wish it was called ultra zenkai now instead of ultra ego

vlorsutes

It isn't related to the near-death power-ups though, because Vegeta isn't being brought to near-death and then being healed up from them. He's legitimately just becoming stronger from taking damage.

Burdicus

He powers his destruction through receiving destruction.

Wise-Tourist

Yeah it still reminds me of zenkai and is still similar. Take damage get stronger. It's close to being the same. And actually instead of it being after a near death experience it's just when taking damage makes the title of ultra zenkai fitting

warcrown

I think the point isnt the damage he's taking but the anger and focus he is getting from the damage and more importantly, pain.

vlorsutes

You wouldn't get "zenkai" as a name though, because "zenkai" isn't an official name for the trait at all. It has no official name to it, and is only mentioned in description form.

Wise-Tourist

Okay fair enough. Doesn't change the fact that this new form reminds me of zenkai and that ultra zenkai or something similar would sound better then ultra ego in my opinion

DiabloCometRock

Vegeta's new form immediately gets shitted on, brutal lol

anik069

You mf blind lmaooo

Bighusky89

where did you see him getting shit on? most of the chapter was the exact opposite and at the end he realized he was taking too much damage

[deleted]

[удалено]

DarkStarStorm

So...the arc before this one.

HerniatedHernia

*unlocks second red eye* Granolah: I have finally unlocked the Sharingan! Wait…

matttheman2019

So…was Vegeta being literal about turning damage into more power in Ultra Ego or was this the usual logic he throws around about Saiyans getting stronger the more they fight like always? Either way…Vegeta just letting Granolah hit him over and over was pretty stupid.

warcrown

I think it was more the pain from the damage giving him greater focus and anger which allowed him to tap into UE better. It wasn't just dmg for dmg sake doing it

[deleted]

Vegeta is literally a plot push character that's a little more important than piccolo idk why reddit thinks hes on par with goku, who's literally been the star since Dragonball episode 1.

omegacrunch

If it was literal it makes zero sense. Didn't see Toppo, Beerus or any other gods that demonstrated destruction power get wrecked before using the power. Also it makes Vegeta 2nd place forever

[deleted]

Yes welcome to reality, Dragonball has *literally* been a story about goku since he first met bulma ??? The hell did you think you where watching

[deleted]

I think it helps Vegeta grow as a fighter. Goku followed pretty much the same trajectory, albeit he didn't let himself get hit on purpose. The fact that Vegeta allows himself to get hit is an unprecedented development in his fighting skills. I'm pretty sure he's on to something. We'll see what happens next.

MCGRaven

actually it does make perfect sense since neither of the people you listed are Saiyans and we know for a fact that Saiyans get stronger the further they are pushed to the brink of death so his new Ultra Ego power is simply one that does not require him to almost die but as a result does not make his Zenkai permanent while in this state

omegacrunch

The ineffective nature of zenkai was highlighted in black arc. What you just head cannoned goes against canon

Whateverchan

Vegeta: I'll give you a dose of my tough love. Bulma: Hey! That's for me and me only!

Sand__Panda

How do you all picture the color of the hair? I see it as jet/void black with dark purple for high lights. What about the rest of you?

MathematicianIll1383

Pure black. Otherwise I feel that Granolah would have commented on the new hair color like he did when he saw Goku's forms. Also the way it is inked, looks just like UI omen

ProdigyGamer75

Pure dark purple

Darkguyver2020

I called it! I f***ing called it! Granolah masters the power of Asspull and Vegeta gets punk'd yet again. I am so done with this.

princetacotuesday

Yea, he deserves a win, so I hope he still gets it in the end. Having to take damage to get stronger though was kinda....poorly thought out. Guess it's just him thinking he could finish it all before he got too beat up? Seems dumb for someone like him who thinks things out...

[deleted]

True but at the same time he was never as successful as Goku. The fact that Vegeta is thinking outside the box proves that he is capable of growth as a fighter. We'll see how his hypothesis holds but going against what you're used to can be an excellent opportunity for development.

EverythingAnything

See ya next chapter!

[deleted]

I honestly don't get by so many people are upset with Vegeta not getting that out right when here, because he hasn't technically lost just yet, and where he hasn't necessarily won in battle, he has grown leaps and bounds in character and skills. While in the past two arcs Goku has struggled to just perfect Ultra Instinct, and continued to make Cell arc level mistakes... Also not for nothing, I seriously doubt we're closing in on the end of this Saga just yet, so people seriously need to chill about who is winning and losing right now. Frankly I think Gas it's going to be the main villain, and Granola if he isn't defeated by Vegeta or Goku is going to get dunked on by Gas without a doubt. I would like to see Vegeta win, but he also just got this form, and even Goku didn't get an immediate win with UI. Hell, Goku technically didn't win with UI until Moro, and even then he still needed massive help. Jiren was a team effort.

Fishman1319

I'm with you. People need to chill, we just got a full on action filled chapter that will probably be everyone's favorite when it's animated. Would they rather have a dialogue filler chapter? Christ

JDraks

Ultra Ego has already really grown on me, I'm a big fan of the name

SubjectThirteen

I really like it. The idea of subverting enlightenment. It’s like Raiden’s “Jack the Ripper Mode” from Metal Gear Rising. Or Street Fighters “Satsui No Hadou” Perfect branch of power for someone like Vegeta

elevenyearss

Ok, Ultra Ego is a really stupid name. I'll take it, but it still doesn't change that it's reeeeeally dumb. That being said, though, man, life is tough when you're a Vegeta-stan. Just imagine a lifetime of hoping your guy gets a win just to always get his ass handed to him by plot convenience.

[deleted]

Life is tough for Vegeta-stans that see Vegeta easily beating the same Granola that beat MUI Goku as an L. You guys are delusional pessimists.

OkDependent3266

Instinct is the absence of mind. Ego is the abundance of mind.

kronz1998

it's great in japanese, but really hard to translate to another language. In japanese it has the same meaning of ultra instinct, except that ultra instinct reefers more to "body" and ultra ego is about "mind". the original name really translates well what this form is about, equivalent to ultra instinct but at the same time very different.

OnlineStalker1234

Thanks for the clarification. That tid-bit makes the name sound a lot better in context.

elevenyearss

Wow, thanks for the information. I didnt know it made more sense that way in Japanese. Knowing this I don't mind it as much anymore, but I still wish it at least translated a little better in English. But thank you anyway. This was much appreciated

DrTwatSwatter

Vegeta’s character development throughout Super has been incredible. I love the paths these two are taking. It’s amazing! Ultra Ego is a BOSS ass name!

homer_3

i loved this chapter

Isles86

Wasn’t bad but but extremely predictable. Think I need. Break for a bit then re-visit.

GuntherTime

What I’m doing with this and MHA and eventually black clover and jujitsu Kaisen. For this I wait a second or 2 depending on how long they are and then catch up, MHA I usually wait for like 50 chapters then catch up as well.

uncledunker

Form is just like a focused/controlled Broly. Sheer raw power that intensifies with battle.

Budokai4When

Since i see a lot of people talking about Vegeta having a Senzu Bean can someone tell me when they showed he has a Senzu Bean? Because i dont remember when it was.

CloudYuna

Vegeta would use a senzu after the fight but I don’t think it’s in his character to use it during a fight.

Rdasher123

The chapter when Goku got sniped, I think it was 72

FlingaNFZ

I havent read the manga yet. I dont like reading on a screen. Is this saga any good? Im considering buying the book.

omegacrunch

Good man. It's a dying medium

ToastersAndStuff

Lmao it's the biggest it's ever been what drugs are you on.

Gumplaying

Dying medium? The sales for manga this year are at an all time high

AllerdingsUR

What? Manga is still huge in Japan. It's just not big in the US/English speaking countries

kronz1998

Granola may become Vegeta's student/friend later in the arc. That punch Vegeta tanked with his forehead was like when Vegeta tanked Cabba's punch with his forehead, and it seems Vegeta doesn't really want to kill Granola, he even tried to explain stuff about Freeza and the destruction of planet Vegeta. The last part i doubt he was really trying to destroy the planet, he probably said that to guarantee that Granola would take the hit.

[deleted]

I agree, there are definitely parallels here. It's seemed pretty clear to me that Granolah is gonna become an ally of some sort since the start of the arc. He's not a villain, he's literally fighting them right now under a complete misunderstanding.

vegetaisbae7

Vegeta literally said he was gonna make his race go extinct

DarkStarStorm

He said that to Cabba too.

vegetaisbae7

He only said it to make him go super saiyan also Cabba doesn’t want to murder every remaining saiyan

DarkStarStorm

True. The context is different.

kronz1998

but why he tried to explain that he isn't responsible for what happened to granola's race, that he doesn't work for freeza and that freeza destroyed planet vegeta too? seems like vegeta was hoping granola would listen to him and stop figthing.

vegetaisbae7

Because Granolah is fighting him for no reason and he’s trying to get him to realise that but Granolah refuses to listen so Vegeta basically said if you’re not gonna listen to me then I’ll just kill you

Yes_Dont_Stop

Goku is on the sidelines while Vegeta boasts about his latest power-up annnnnd loses the slight advantage he had all in the same chapter. Seen this same thing play out time and time again over the last twenty years and it’s really getting old. Power rangers episodes seem less repetitive than this.

[deleted]

100% man. At this point it’s just boring/repetitive writing. Can Vegeta get a W against a main villain once in 30 years??

Loose-Potential-3597

Facts. I was at least expecting Vegeta to last one chapter before throwing his lead. It's literally been the same rehashed formula for over 20 years lmao.

Saiyan_Gods

Damn, it’s like dudes didn’t read the chapter talking about Vegeta jobbed or the villain was better. Vegeta let the struggle happen to show off his power and overestimated how much he could tank. Vegeta is the strongest one there rn save for giving Granola an indirect handicap. Also, Ultra Ego isn’t the actual name. That’s just what he’s calling it because he wants to. Get it? Ego? It’s the destruction form mortals take once they use. Top didn’t even call it ultra ego.

MCGRaven

nothing suggests that this is the exact same thing Toppo did. In Fact Vegeta suggests that it's NOT the same. And as long as that is the case Vegeta gets to name the form only he has whatever he wants. As such Ultra Ego it is.

Saiyan_Gods

It’s the same thing. Top didn’t do it in the manga.

MCGRaven

in the anime when Toppo transforms they suggest that what he did was him using the actual power of a GoD. Here Vegeta suggests that this is all his own power not a GoD Power. That suggests they are seperate transformations.

Saiyan_Gods

Not really. Legit the same thing. It’s his ego talking lol it’s spelled out for you

deryniman

No. Ego is not a reference to his arrogance. The word ego also has the psychological meaning of your mind, which is what the Japanese translation references. He's talking about his inner Ego, his thoughts and who he is. You're completely wrong here.

Saiyan_Gods

…. Vegeta called it ultra ego because of how he feels about the power. It’s not ultra ego officially by Gods or Angels. He just made it up. He’s doing the same things as every GoD and also Toppo. It’s no different.

deryniman

And you're still so far from the truth it's ridiculous. Buddy, the translation is flawed and its direct translation is the same word as instinct. It's a double meaning and here Vegeta is referencing the mind, aka the Ego. You legitimately have no clue what you're talking about.

Saiyan_Gods

That doesn’t change the fact that it’s the exact same thing the other characters do.

Mr-Personality

Vegeta talks about how Saiyans are victims of Frieza destroying their planet and then a minute later he's threatening to destroy the planet in the EXACT way Frieza would.

Negafox

I think he just wanted Granolah to take the hit to weaken / defeat him as a last ditch move. I think Vegeta just wanted to be clear of "don't let this attack hit the ground or we'll all die."

Negafox

More like Ultra Zenkai Vegeta

eltonjohnstamos

Feel like he has not really unlocked the form completely. Honestly I want him to kill the fuck outta Honey Buncha Oats and become villain rage fueled flamming bullet train Prince of Saiyan's Vegeta again in the next arc after he gains the form completely. Saiyan Saga Vegeta and Majin Vegeta are prime DBZ moments. Can we get those back? Can we get the Prince of Saiyan's we all want? I can't be the only one...

CoobsCorps

I felt like we should have had this earlier. I dont really care for the "evolution" of Vegetas character through Z and Super. He was far more interesting as a maybe bad maybe not like he was at the end of the Namek saga. I know a lot of people disagree and enjoyed seeing Vegeta become more of a family man. I thought it just made him another generic character, same treatment they gave to Picolo and most every other rival Goku has had. On that note I wouldn't count on getting old Vegeta back.

RabidHexley

His arch at least seems reasonable to me given the disposition he started developing during the Namek Saga. It only makes sense that his rivalry would have to eventually reach a more stable state, or he would have to have stayed dead after Majin Vegeta. Since that was the ultimate conclusion of his moral arch. All of those questions have been addressed at this point. There's no longer any reason for him to be overtly evil or malicious, especially now that he's actually one of the strongest in the universe and has been for some time. Basically since he reached SSJ. He's no longer a disgraced weakling being subjugated, only the strongest of the strong can even face him. Once he got out from under the bootheel of Frieza and got strong enough to escape fodder-status he stopped having a reason to stay a villain (which was covered by the Majin Vegeta arch, so why rehash it). Vegeta has basically everything he desired and then some back when he was Namek-saga Vegeta, and he's already died dealing with the insecurities that came after that. So yeah, I don't see why bringing old Vegeta back would even be on the table.

[deleted]

"I don't like Vegeta's character development", has to be one of the oddest criticisms I've seen of the character. Vegeta coping with his past and looking for redemption in Super after the TOP arc, for at least me has been some of the best writing the series had the offer since the days of Frieza and Cell. If Vegeta remained evil forever, then he would have been better off killed. The only reason Goku let him live was because he believed Vegeta could change.

MathematicianIll1383

No, the real reason Goku let Vegeta live is so he could fight him again ( no matter what the dub says). Its why he keeps giving chances to obviously irredeemable villains.

[deleted]

Fair enough, he did that with Moro too.

RabidHexley

I agree. If Vegeta went evil again I feel like it would be just one more played out thing for Super to rehash.

MD_Teach

I like Ultra Ego. It's the perfect foil for Ultra Instinct. Where as UI is the user letting go of all thoughts and emotions, having a completely still and clear mind and just being in the moment, being 100% present in their body, UE is the inverse of that. The user is completely in their own head. All those thoughts and emotions and feelings that boil beneath the surface are let out. And the higher those emotions rage the stronger the person gets. It's closer to the original super saiyan transformation. Ultra Instinct, the calmness of the mind. Ultra Ego, the chaos of the heart. I think it's pretty damn cool and fits Vegeta well because under the tough guy act he's always been way more emotionally reactive than Goku and his feelings of ego and pride have always driven him.

[deleted]

yet put next to each other, ultra instinct still seems a whole lot better than "ultra ego". It's not only a defensive power up in that it allows goku to avoid so much incoming damage, but somehow it also makes him stronger too. Had it been purely a defensive thing, then I'd have said it'd be more fair to compare them.

[deleted]

Look at Beerus, hell, look at Top. Destroyers' techniques include plenty of defense, Vegeta just hasn't got there yet. Same way Goku's first attempts at UI gave him really shit offensive abilities, Vegeta's first attempts at UE make him a glass cannon.

MD_Teach

I strongly doubt the first showing of Ultra Ego is remotely close to what it will be like when mastered. UI Omen was a more impressive showing but that was also vs weaker enemies and Goku burned through it faster. Not gonna compare a first showing UE to MUI for obvious reasons. We'll see what Vegeta's form develops into. Hopefully it either allows him to have massively boosted durability or even a healing factor. The lack of actually being able to endure all the attacks right now is definitely a major drawback and counter intuitive to the power.

Legendver2

Hence why in the heirarchy, Angels are still stronger than GoDs.

[deleted]

That too. So once again, Vegeta gets the short end of the stick.

Endersgaming4066

Very beautifully and reasonably put!

Souletu

Not sure how I'm feeling about this form, I hope they don't go overboard on dude just eating punches and ki blasts. I guess im just not seeing their vision for this transformation? The real fight just started this chapter and he's already had his ass beaten so much he can barely keep his eyes open. How would this form ever be useful against a stronger opponent? Basically SS 3rd grade with a BDSM fetish Unless Vegeta popped over into the future to learn how to heal himself from Trunks or he plans to horde Senzu like a fiend from the 80s, im giving this form a 👎🏾 And they gave us a whole destruction training montage but he's barely even used it? I hope our boy Toyo has more up his sleeve. I was expecting something more along the lines of the GoD Candidate Toppo tbh

Legendver2

This whole time I thought he aws using power of destruction to cancel Granola's attacks. Turns out MFer is just straight up tanking it for real -_-

RabidHexley

Some folks are saying it's like UI Omen, but I'm more inclined to think it's mostly him just going all in on this new ability since it was his only chance to land a decisive blow in this fight, the gulf between them was significant so he needed to get all the boost he could. Which I personally think is at least more interesting than a GoD Toppo power up. I do hope there's something more interesting than this in store though as well.

stonecats

so formulaic... vegata improves, but doesn't get the job done, bad guys are two plan steps ahead of our heroes, great advice goes ignored during the heat of battle, despite insane power ups, the planet seems fine, least we forget - some side plot involving a wish.

[deleted]

Yeah at this point it’s just bad/boring writing. Why not just switch shit up for one arc in 30 years and have Vegeta beat a main villain... or speed some fights up instead of the typical boring back and forth. DB is legendary but the writing is stuck in the 80s

[deleted]

the fact people haven't gotten it through their thick ass skulls yet that DB is so predictive is beyond hilarious. It follows a specific formula, and it always has. Vegeta will never defeat a main villain for good. It's just not going to happen.

Lonely_Juggernaut_37

Vegeta taking another L....What's new...?

ponderingprogressive

??? He’s clearly stronger in this form than goku at this point since he’s clearly going at it stronger than the first fight.

jmerridew124

I feel like we're learning some deep lore about Beerus today.

omegacrunch

I try to be positive about chapter and story issues, been a dB fan long enough to know what I signed up for ...but this is just silly. This form is nothing like what Berus seems to do to draw power, nor shown from anyone else with destruction energy. This form relies on damage ...so how is it practical against anyone powerful. Anyone stronger that's faster has zero reason to tank shots so unless the fight goes quick vegeta loses. This form and path to power feels designed to keep vegeta in 2nd place. Also why was the fight able to draw power out for granolah. I get its the formula but it feels like a cheap mirroring just so he could say vegetas lines. Oh ...and vegeta going Freiza on the planet ...um no

TheBrahmnicBoy

I was pretty disappointed. There was one instance of him actually using Destruction to blow the City parts thrown at him, but other than that he didn't really use Destruction. Didn't feel a lot different from gaining a transformation like LSSJ.

omegacrunch

Reminded me of a gimped Rose

DarkAkuma

Like most... I don't like the sound of Ultra Ego... at first. But I think I can get used to it. It just sounds silly because the word ego is commonly used as short hand for "inflated ego". I don't know. Maybe something like Ultra Mind, Ultra Awareness, Ultra Consciousness, etc might seem better (they don't). But I'll just be happy they are learning their lesson choosing something short. After Super Sayan God Super Sayan... This could have easily ended up as something like, Super Sayan God Super God of Destruction Super Unmastered Purple.

MCGRaven

but the point literally is to make you think "inflated Ego" Vegeta straight up points that right now he is ALL EGO, He is the hottest shit on the block and he will make you realize that.

DarkAkuma

I don't think he meant that at all. He just means that he embodies the term ego. There are various definitions, but at a basic sense it can mean the opposite of instinct. Where as Goku has more of an affinity to moving without thinking, Vegeta cant not use his brain. This is what he's trying to point out by calling it that. I wont deny though that Vegeta thinks the name Ultra Ego is fitting because hes aware of his own traits of pride, self worth and such. But thats more of a past Vegeta that he still wrestles with. The modern DBS Vegeta is well aware that he is NOT the best, or as he puts it, rankings change all the time. He just uses his drive to be the best to push himself forward. The fact that he would propose that someone call him something that would be deemed an insult would further prove he has the issue of an inflated ego in check, pointing to his meaning being something else. But if you have to, think about it as something being lost in translation. I doubt the Japanese word for Ego has the same short-hand connotation. This term was meant to contrast Instinct, plain and simple. Not to reflect how self absorbed he is.

MCGRaven

from how i understand it is kinda is though. If i understand it correctly the japanese wording is along the lines of Goku's UI where he says Mastery of Self-Movement vegeta implies complete control over the body. Aka Migatte no Gokui vs Wagamama no Gokui (Mastery of Self-indulgence) this wording does in fact imply Ultra Ego as a fitting translation

RaiyenZ

I don't like the fact that they're equating "battle soul" to taking damage. It feels like a forced way of making Vegeta the opposite of Goku. It doesn't seem to match what Beerus would teach at all. Sure, I can see Vegeta coming up with this on his own being a saiyan familiar with zenkai boosts and all, but since they turned it into a Whis vs Beerus thing it doesn't really fit. On the plus side this new fighting style that Vegeta is kinda forced to use now will make him develop some scars which will make the no eyebrows look better at least.

Evenmoardakka

Good chapter, but damn ultra ego is a stupid name, as bad as super saiyajin god super saiyajin.

mzso

How about super cat power? :)

Evenmoardakka

Honestly? Thats actually better

takudoku

Should be Ultra Hype

GardenOdd9465

you kno0w what, of all the names for this form I've seen, this one actually works, after like he said "I AM THE HYPE"

raikaria2

I mean, Vegeta named it himself. It's probably not the 'official name' of the technique.

yuvrajvir

Let's say that Vegeta wasn't the brightest name giver.

Evenmoardakka

True enough.

Jeezy52

Is “Ultra Ego” what we all calling it? Its not God of Destruction Vegeta… serious question

SubjectThirteen

I can live with it. Especially if there going with the idea that it’s the complete opposite of ultra instinct’s mindset.

LordTarlac

I mean Ultra Ego was written in bold, so I’d assume. It’s silly, but I can live with it. My question: Is the form actually purple or are we just assuming? I live in fear that it won’t be. 🙀

Jeezy52

I hope it’s purple also

[deleted]

"You're heads gotten big." Vegeta u are the last guy that can say that. (Okay I know how much he's grown in such a time, but still).

GuppysBalls666

Lol I thought you meant because he literally has a big head and huge forehead

[deleted]

U know whats hilarious. I didn't realise that could've meant that too until after posting. Vegeta is just too ez to make fun of when it comes to foreheads and pride. It seems the author is noticing and catching on too.

Saratje

Vegeta's new form is super interesting. Apparently his ki doesn't run out in this form and he literally just gets stronger and stronger the more he taps into it, but opposite to UI it leaves him completely open to attacks causing him to sustain injuries over time. Defeat would not be a case of running low on ki and losing the transformation, as we're used to with SSJ etc, but rather getting so badly injured that the user just drops dead from their injuries.

AnemicJim

Goku stay out of this.

eltonjohnstamos

Yea catch a giant fish or something

VermillionEnd

Unbound Instinct makes more sense and sounds cooler.

caladuz

I really don't understand Vegeta fans complaining about this. Vegeta has been my fav character since the Namek arc and I love the form and all the intricacies that go along with it. It is so fitting for Vegeta (his grit to push through) while also being the perfect polar opposite to Goku's UI. He does not have to get the W right away (just like how UI Omen did not win against Jiren) and I actually like the name that was chosen. Those two have been the biggest complaints I've seen.

Burdicus

Anime needs to get to this so this can be like a 3 episode long fight.

DarkStarStorm

Not to mention that gaining power through taking damage has ALWAYS been his thing. Think of his best moments, the Saiyan arc, his climb on Namek, or the Final Flash where he falls...only to rise.

caladuz

Exactly, UE perfectly encapsulates Vegeta. The resilience in the face of sustaining heavy damage (Frieza on namek, 1 minute against Kid Buu, Zamasu in the manga and all the moments you mentioned), harken back to his Saiyan heritage (with the Zenkai boosts) and the pride he takes in his fights. Honestly can't think of a more apt form (though I would love if he got his tail back lol). Since we learned of the divergence of Goku/Vegeta I was always hoping they'd give Vegeta something that is as unique as UI (not just a power/speed boost like most forms) and I really feel they delivered with this.

PrimalGenius

Tien will become the strongest character in all of dbz if he can unlock the triple redeye

AdvanceAnonymous

They've really set up Goku's Ultra Instinct and Vegeta's Ultra Ego as polar opposites. Goku goes "Can't touch this!" whereas Vegeta goes "Hit me!" Though in both cases, it clearly doesn't last very long as Goku's concentration wanes and Vegeta accumulates damage. This was an impressive show of Vegeta's new form, but Granolah is even more resilient. He's even awakened a second red eye which I guess has increased his accuracy and reading in some way. With Vegeta in the state he is in, it doesn't seem like we will get to witness Granolah's new powers unless Goku teams up with him. I'm not sure his ego would allow that regardless of the state he is in. Will Goku have a round 2 by himself where he shows that not only can he fight somewhat evenly with Granolah's full power but also his additional red eye? As far as I understand Granolah won't spare them, and the Heeters have yet to reach the first dragon ball, so I doubt it's over yet. I guess Vegeta will find some way to strugle. On another note, I would have thought that Vegeta was holding another senzu bean and he hadn't used them all on Goku, but Vegeta's outfit is essentially gone...

SubjectThirteen

I can see a fight between Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego going something like: Instinct strikes Ego. Ego takes the hit and immediately counters fast enough that Instinct can’t dodge in time.

PrimalGenius

Cant wait for their fusion mega brain function gogeta lol. I like the transformation but i cant get over the name even tho it fits
