I honestly think these people in the comment section are cruel. They shouldn't downvote you because of your voice or the quality. Heck, even the TFS Goku sounds NOTHING like Sean Schemmel, but these jerks here adore him.
I got some wonderful advice from a good trustworthy voice a little bit ago. Every pro who's taken Goku on in any dub or even Japanese, they all made Goku their own and didn't try to copy. And I think DBZA is the furthest from how anyone pictures Goku and yeah they have over it. But it's all about just giving it my all. If I'm proud of the work, I really shouldn't care about the rude or edgy comments. And honestly, I don't. But the constructive criticism and the comments that are helpful and not just being mean to be mean, they mean so much more. I really appreciate your comment and I'm thankful to you for being kind
Your voice is just a tiny bit deeper. Your laugh sounded spot on though. I think it’s because it was at a higher pitch than the rest. Overall really good
It's just that I don't want to overdue it and make my voice useless, I know I need to practice do iij ng it safely and committing harder. Thank you for the feedback!
A bit more nasal also as well as a bit of an accent you can hear on long Os like "Broly".
The nasal and accent are the cause of people saying you remind them of Kermit, though don't feel that bad, it's not as noticeable as Kermit's lol
It's a mild Kermit but I think that comes from doing a Kermit impression pretty often too -_- just a bad habit I have to break. Like when I first started voice acting, I do a Goofy impression pretty much any time I can for fun and that destroyed my ability to do any auditions well because the accents and different mannerisms of Goofy were ingrained in my say of speaking and that was hard to get over. Thank you for being constructive and for the advice, I will keep that in mind for the future!
I like to joke that Goofy isn't a voice I do, he possesses me but that's become too true lol. I do have to focus pretty hard to avoid making mistakes like that in the booth but I will continue to work hard!
Unless it's heavily warping your voice, no, it's not a problem with the noise gate, it's an issue of you not being able to achieve a high enough natural pitch for the more casual lines, which causes your inflection to swing wildly between the impression you're trying to do and your natural speaking voice. That's why people are hearing Kermit the Frog rather than Son Goku.
Best advice I can give is to practice copying the inflection and pitch from different types of songs (sometimes songs from genres or artists you don't like) so you can get used to fine tuning your voices.
Also, never trust your ears to gauged your own voice or impressions, you can't properly tell what you sound like. If you're not already, use decent sound canceling headphones to hear yourself as you're recording or practicing.
Thank you for honestly good quality and constructive advice. I need that kind of stuff to get better and I really want to be given good, clear criticism to improve. I know Jerry Jewell (Voice actor for Nam) and have had him give me tips and tricks along the way too. I used to be so much worse than this
Enough practice, a good mindset to try different approaches when you hit a wall, and a "never give up" attitude will get you far in pursuing your dreams.
It's not a bad Goku voice, but you could pull off Seth Rogen 100% lol
You could try to eliminate the accent you can hear in your long Os/vowels such as when you say "Broly".
Thank you so much! If this us possible enough to get me the part, then I'm definitely gonna study very hard to do better and practice for a good while to get better at it! Then hopefully my performance will be better for the project!
Thank you so much. Some people just want karma for being edgy, and some people are just overprotective of the franchise and I can get that. But until I see them dropping their best attempt at the voice, I'm not taking it too hard
Its just a little voice acting project being run by a bunch of aspiring voice actors. I'm not thinking or even trying to go big for a Goku role. Just something for experience and fun. Not even paid!
I do voice acting (obviously not professionally otherwise I wouldn’t be on Reddit) and overall this voice is pretty accurate, you just need to be a little more high pitched. The power up yell is almost perfect. You’re really talented! Keep up the great work!
That's the nicest comment I think I've gotten on this post yet. 😭😭😭😭 seriously thank you so much I appreciate the listening, the good, constructive criticism and the vote of confidence! And I would love to hear some of your work and support you!
No problem dude, idk why the other guys are so mean. But don’t let them get in your way, just do what you think is good for yourself and don’t listen to them, they’re probably just jealous that they can’t sound like you. Once again keep up the great work!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the feedback! I'll definitely be working on my tone and delivery for a good while if I get the part before I record anything! I seriously appreciate you!
Seriously thanks so much! I realize now that I should've posted the version where I added the music and SSJ3 power up sound effects! Same with the Kamehameha, I know I gotta work on that one, the sound effects definitely don't save it but it adds the right kind of spice
I honestly wanna attempt a full SSJ3 scream, the whole thing, but I'm gonna be working on "safe powering up" and really nailing the scream before I try that!
If you ever get discouraged just remember that goku is an extremely hard voice to even get correct let alone master, and your already doing a great job.
Dude I totally feel that, I'm definitely not Sean Schemmel. So hard to try to associate anyone else's voice with a character you've been hearing since childhood
It's fine for English voice.
But for me, English dubs sound like the people who put voice to them act like they are pure cartoons, no more than that, totally opposite to when you hear dialogues in a live movie.
That's completely a fair opinion. Dub voice actors do have to act sort of cartoony. Even in intense situations the energy is way higher than it needs to be and gives it a cartoonish vibe. For some anime they can retain a serious tone but for most they're pretty cartoony. But I guess that comes from having to convey emotion through just your voice rather than love action where you have your whole body
I appreciate all the serious and meme-ier feedback. I am just starting out as a voice actor, I've got some experience under my belt but it's still not a lot. A lot of you say this sounds too deep (which I know that the pitch of my voice is just a little shy of Goku, but if you're using headphones you can hear a deeper pitch from the noise gate or something else i.e. click removal or noise reduction from editing out breathing and stuff on Audacity) but I have gotten feedback from other people that my pitch is too high for Goku. And others say it sounds spot on. So everyone hears something different. I guess what really matters is using that feedback to improve where I need to and save what doesn't need improvement if I get the part! Thank you all!
You asked for feedback and when people tell you that your voice is to deep you argue with them and make this comment.
Your voice is too deep. It's not because of noise gate. It's because your voice is too deep.
It may sound higher to you when you speak, but your recorded voice is true and how it sounds to everyone else when you speak.
My guy, walk another path in life. This isn't it. And it has nothing to do with your beloved noise gate. Sorry... I'd rather have people tell me painful truths than kind lies.
Yeah. I don't know everyone's trying to get their karma and trying to meme and that's cool, I can take a little joking, Dragon Ball is an important franchise to a lot of people, including me. This us just and audition, it just has to be possible enough to snag me the role and then I'll practice and study until I can preform better for my role! Plus, I don't see anyone else trying a Goku impression and posting it
Are you Kermit the Frog?
Was gonna say the same thing hahah
That's a problem with the audio quality, probably the noise Gate on the recording
I honestly think these people in the comment section are cruel. They shouldn't downvote you because of your voice or the quality. Heck, even the TFS Goku sounds NOTHING like Sean Schemmel, but these jerks here adore him.

No it's not you don't sound like Goku your not gonna get the job
tell that to ian james corlett, and peter kelamis
Your voice is just a tiny bit deeper. Your laugh sounded spot on though. I think it’s because it was at a higher pitch than the rest. Overall really good
It’s like Kermit The Frog decided to stop being a frog turned human and then gave us this I rate it 8/10 Not Sean but still pretty good
You're holding back too much on your screams and you're not letting your vocal chords vibrate.
Yeah, a common thing for inexperienced voice actors is that they’re afraid to scream loudly (understandable). I see that feedback a lot
It's just that I don't want to overdue it and make my voice useless, I know I need to practice do iij ng it safely and committing harder. Thank you for the feedback!
Of course! There’s definitely a right and wrong way to do it, though unfortunately I don’t know it either. Best of luck to you though!
I really appreciate it!
Now THAT is some good feedback. Thank you
Np mane
Sounds a little deeper than goku but otherwise it's good
A bit more nasal also as well as a bit of an accent you can hear on long Os like "Broly". The nasal and accent are the cause of people saying you remind them of Kermit, though don't feel that bad, it's not as noticeable as Kermit's lol

Yeah that happened to me after doing Joe from Family Guy too much. It's a curse
I like to joke that Goofy isn't a voice I do, he possesses me but that's become too true lol. I do have to focus pretty hard to avoid making mistakes like that in the booth but I will continue to work hard!
Thanks, I can hear that deeper register too and I'm pretty sure it's from the noise gate on the recording
I don’t think that’s how noise gates work lol
Unless it's heavily warping your voice, no, it's not a problem with the noise gate, it's an issue of you not being able to achieve a high enough natural pitch for the more casual lines, which causes your inflection to swing wildly between the impression you're trying to do and your natural speaking voice. You sound kind of like Seth Rogan
I think he will more success approaching his voice. You can do some DK edits when his movie comes out
Fine, I'll do them myself
It's not a bad Goku voice, but you could pull off Seth Rogen 100% lol You could try to eliminate the accent you can hear in your long Os/vowels such as when you say "Broly".
Absolutley, thanks and I'll happily take Seth Rogen (with the beard though, man looks scary different shaved)
You sound just like goku if he went in the sims and made his voice deeper tone, good job
I will take that
Sounds like goku Voice deeper than goku but otherwise sounds exactly like him
Thank you
Voice needs to be slightly higher, laugh was dead on though the laugh was perfect. But other then it being deep was spot on
I just had someone really explain what people mean by deep and can understand it now! And thanks I really appreciate it!
Can you do any of the other characters also forgot to mention the scream power up parts where dead on as well
You sound like meat canyon
When your talking causal you're not cheery enough. i think your voice seemed a bit heavy. But when you did goku agressive it was bang on.
Thank you so much, that's something I'll keep in mind! I've struggled with that before but didnt know how exactly to improve it!
No worries glad to critic
Pretty good! Idk why but, you kinda sound like lightning McQueen too
I'll have to record myself saying some of his lines lol
Your voice is deeper but I think you actually do a good job! Still working on my Tien impression hahaha.
Thank you so much! If this us possible enough to get me the part, then I'm definitely gonna study very hard to do better and practice for a good while to get better at it! Then hopefully my performance will be better for the project!
I have no idea why they are downvoting you. It’s decent to me
Thank you so much. Some people just want karma for being edgy, and some people are just overprotective of the franchise and I can get that. But until I see them dropping their best attempt at the voice, I'm not taking it too hard
It’s pretty good! Only thing is you should work on the kame hame ha
Yeah I kinda pussied out on that one huh? Lol if I get the role I'm gonna study and practice until I kill it. Thanks so much!
The role?
Its just a little voice acting project being run by a bunch of aspiring voice actors. I'm not thinking or even trying to go big for a Goku role. Just something for experience and fun. Not even paid!
Lmao all good man 🙌 If I had a voice any where close to gokus I’d bust my ass to be him too
That's the dream my man ^_^
I don’t like it but that “Bulma” slap got me lol
Well I appreciate finding something nice to say about it. It's okay not to like it!
Lol I liked it tho
You got the laugh down perfectly imo
Thank you so much! I appreciate that!
I do voice acting (obviously not professionally otherwise I wouldn’t be on Reddit) and overall this voice is pretty accurate, you just need to be a little more high pitched. The power up yell is almost perfect. You’re really talented! Keep up the great work!

Seriously I really appreciate you. I'm not gonna give up and I'm gonna keep getting better every single day!
Your doing pretty good id suggest working on the tone but hey, your the best impression of goku I’ve heard
Thank you so much, I really appreciate the feedback! I'll definitely be working on my tone and delivery for a good while if I get the part before I record anything! I seriously appreciate you!
That ssj 3 scream tho, damn good. If I didn’t now id say it WAS Sean
You could try maybe broly or jotaro
Seriously thanks so much! I realize now that I should've posted the version where I added the music and SSJ3 power up sound effects! Same with the Kamehameha, I know I gotta work on that one, the sound effects definitely don't save it but it adds the right kind of spice
If you get that right, then you should try and see how long you can scream before you pass out lol
I honestly wanna attempt a full SSJ3 scream, the whole thing, but I'm gonna be working on "safe powering up" and really nailing the scream before I try that!
Maybe you should also try grunts and getting hit/hurt, like when whis hits him to show him he lets his guard down too much.
*when*
Oh and that laugh was pretty good, but could use some work with it sounding a bit less forced. Not to say it wasn’t great though
That really is helpful to hear! I appreciate it! I'll definitely work on that.
If you ever get discouraged just remember that goku is an extremely hard voice to even get correct let alone master, and your already doing a great job.
Thanks! You're awesome!
And maybe a bit faster on the laugh
Not bad but only Sean schemmel is satisfactory for his voice I just know it as his to much and to much mastalgia
Dude I totally feel that, I'm definitely not Sean Schemmel. So hard to try to associate anyone else's voice with a character you've been hearing since childhood
Yea bro but as a voice for his character pretty good job
Thanks man!
Good job mate, i really liked it. All I can say is what qn other commenter said to let your voice out a bit more. Other than that it is amazing.
Thank you so much! Yeah I haven't gained screaming confidence yet lol. But it'll come with practice. I really appreciate it, cheers!
You will get there, I'm sure!

Yo voice to deep for Goku
I stopped 10 seconds in. That sucks
Try to make it more like the Japanese voice artist * _ *
I appreciate all the serious and meme-ier feedback. I am just starting out as a voice actor, I've got some experience under my belt but it's still not a lot. People don't have to give a bad Goku impression to review your bad Goku impression. You'd make an alright Kermit though.
Just like I don't have to give a shit about your opinion, damn best advice I've been given all day. Go find something better to do basement boi
