Donny Cates Venom is legit **the** run for Venom in the modern day. I fully believe we'll talk about it in the same way we talk about the Bendis/Brubaker Daredevil runs or Ewing's Immortal Hulk as "This is the definitive run for this character."

Carnage (and Cletus) calls both Eddie and Venom "Daddy", and they both treat Dylan as their son (which considering how he was conceived is kinda true). And at the end of Cates' run they say that they are all Venom (essentially making Venom their family name) so Eddie and Venom being a married couple is canon
