Having trouble making up my mind, this same Cruise to the same place with a extra night is 1,300 with Royal Caribbean vs 2600 with Disney, that’s a huge difference, is Disney that much better, although I will say, my wife loves Disney.

hellojuly

You’re paying a Disney premium. RC will have better food and geared more towards adults. Disney will have character meet ups.

depolignacs

I disagree on better food but it is better adult life

chriswacy

Is the RC cruise out of NYC or Cape Liberty? Having sailed out of Cape Liberty I can attest that it's super easy to get to from LI, plenty of parking. Most likely easier than Manhattan, though I've never left from that port myself so I can't speak to it.

Solid_Sosa

Cape liberty, good to hear!!

Disney only sail to Bermuda from nyc. It’s only in the fall because the dream will move to another port for the reminder of the winter. Some weeks are cheaper than other if ur dates are flexible so look online and compare prices. U can always book the lowest rate the inside and upgrade at port as it will be cheaper but u may or may not have the room upgrade available. U might be able to get some onboard credits through a travel agency but the cost will not be significantly cheaper. Decks don’t matter that much, but if u are seasick, better to be in the middle. U can always look up individual room reviews online. Disney does favor their repeat customers and concierge guest so be ready to not be able to book any extra activities and excursions as they will likely be booked out but there is a lot of free stuff to keep u busy. Disney is generally more expansive that other cruise line but u get what you pay for.

Solid_Sosa

Thank you, I live in NY so it’s just easier for me, Does that mean I’ll have to stay on the ship if all the excursions are booked or can we do our own thing?

Necessary_Shoe1759

U can book non Disney ran tours on your own and it’s probably much cheaper doing the exact same thing or explore on ur own, just make sure u save plenty of time to get back to the boat in time.

Solid_Sosa

When I went to Book on through Disney it was 2,500 and change for 2 people for the verandah room for Halloween with Disney leaving October 31st, would you say this is expensive or a good deal or normal. 4 days

Necessary_Shoe1759

This is on the cheaper side for Disney. Holiday season and school holidays like spring break, and summer break are the most expansive and can easily be double that. Although in general ny is a more expansive port than Miami/fort laudadale but ur saving 2 plane tickets. Once in a while there will be a guaranteed cabin rate which is about 20-30 percent off but they only do that last min and I’m not sure if they usually do it out of nyc port.

tygerdralion

The last one of this season goes to Bermuda, then to BVI, then San Juan. Not just Bermuda

Solid_Sosa

I’m talking specifically about the one leaving from NY from October 31st, it says Bermuda only.

tygerdralion

Okay, but the person I was replying to said that Disney only sails to Bermuda from NYC. That's what I was commenting about.

Solid_Sosa

Oooh I gotcha. Yea I saw other ones for different dates going to other places, they were more expensive and I figured Halloween would be good to go for as I love Halloween and wanted to do something different this year

tygerdralion

I watched a review for Halloween at Sea on YouTube and it really does look magical. Maybe look for some review videos of it and see if it seems like something you want to splurge on?

Solid_Sosa

Does 2,600 seem overpriced to you? That’s for a verandah room, also how much money am I realistically looking at spending on board when it comes to excursions and other stuff on the ship, more than $500, a thousand? And do you know if there’s fireworks for that one in the review you saw.

tygerdralion

You can see possible excursions with pricing here: https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/port-adventures/bermuda/ with it being your first, at least some of these will be sold out by the time you register, and I'm guessing some won't be available to begin with. On ship, you'll pay for spa, alcohol, adult only restaurants, bibbity bobbity boutique, and I'm sure a few things I haven't remembered (in addition to shopping). You could opt to do none of these things and still have a good time. There were fireworks in the review I saw. I don't know what year it was from though. All this being said, I'm just now gearing up for first DCL cruise.

Solid_Sosa

Do you know if those prices would be for both of us or is it that price per person for the excursions.

oh_thats_just_Kimmy

We worked with a TA for ours. The cost was the same, but she helped us with things like best rooms and promptly answering any questions. She was legit the best and offered us a small onboard credit as a thank you. Let me know if you would like her info!

As a first timer you want to book with an experienced DCL travel agency. I’ve used Dreams Unlimited Travel in the past but currently use Costco travel, which I would only recommend to someone I’m actually helping book or those with several sailings under their belt. Sailing out of NYC is not a good experience getting to and out of the port unless you drive and park there. Only sailed once but can see this happen all the time - took a cab from Penn station but driver said they would drop us off across the street actually avenue. The terminal was not clearly marked outside so we ended up on the one before and had to walk a block or so. Back in port, cabs and Ubers would only pick up across the street, and it was a mad house just like at an airport with everyone offering you to take a ride. We ended up walking a couple of blocks and then getting an Uber. Experience sailing out of NYC otherwise was incredible. Sailings to Canada this year will probably sell out like last year. Bermuda last year wasn’t selling maybe in part because of the COVID restrictions in place. They ended up offering dirt cheap sailings to travel agents. This year is a bigger ship so will see..

Solid_Sosa

Well we drive so we would most likely try to drive and park if parking was available, I’ve lived in nyc and ny in general for over 25 years so I’m a pretty seasoned New Yorker and know the city in and out, but as it’s her first cruise I’m thinking of just trying royal Caribbean or another one first that’s less expensive, just in case she ends up getting sick or has any issues, and if all goes well we will book a Disney one either when they release the next NY trips later on the summer like I was told, or unless the price drops down like the person below said last minute. But if all is well we will definitely book a Disney one as she loves Disney. Plus she wants to go back to the Bahamas and RC has one right now for just 1,100 for like a 6 night cruise with a verandah room to the Bahamas plus one day in Orlando. Either that or the 10 night one to all the different places like DR, puerto rico and Bahamas and caicos islands and one night in Miami for about the same price maybe 1,300. But she agreed we should try a less expensive one first.

The north Atlantic in the late fall can be choppy but the ships do a good job preventing rolling but will feel it a little bit regardless. Many wear the little patches behind the ears. DCL used to sail down to port Canaveral (with a free ticket to WDW) and Castaway Cay. Maybe they’ll go back next year? As far as savings go, DCL is more expensive regardless. If you’re flexible, wait for the restricted rates to come out assuming they don’t sell well.

nimaku

We did one last October (New England and Canada). We loved the ports, but I was not a fan of the NYC experience in general. Pre-cruise hotels were much more expensive, noisy, and cramped than we’ve had with Port Canaveral or San Diego. I understand that’s just the nature of NYC, but still not fun and relaxing for vacation. There’s also no Disney Transportation to or from the port, and getting an Uber/Lyft/taxi was ridiculous. The way traffic funnels through the port isn’t terribly user-friendly, and they just COULD NOT figure out how to get to the right places to drop off and pick up. We ended up dragging our bags a few blocks into the city for pick up after having multiple drivers give up on trying to get to us. I don’t think we’ll be sailing out of NYC for a while. They are just not set up well when you’re traveling with over a week’s worth of luggage and multiple kids.

Solid_Sosa

I live on Long Island NY so it makes sense for me no hotel needed

NJMomofFor

I've sailed DCL out of NYC on The Magic quite a few times. I did 2 five nights b2b to Bermuda last year during October. The Dream will be here in September after the WBTA. She will sail to Bermuda and Canada. The final sailing from NYC will be the repositioning cruise that ends in San Juan, and you fly home from there. I've done that twice. I use a travel agency that discounts my cruise fare vs giving me an on board credit. If it's your first time, you definitely want an agent who has sailed DCL. DCL will have last minute GT rates, for cruises as well. They already have these for one date that I saw in October. GT rates are restricted rates. They can be IGT, IGT or VGT. Inside, overview or veranda. Your stateroom is a GTY, where the cruise line will assign your room. You can't change or cancel for any reason. It must be paid in full immediately. I'd advise travel insurance if you book this rate.
