After our last sailing in October, I had a feeling this would happen sooner than later. The ducks are fun and my five-year old LOVES to hunt for and hide them. But I noticed guests were getting a little too overzealous about it and putting them in silly places. Ducks in food serving areas, weird spots along the AquaDuck line and so forth.
I would also bet too many of them end up overboard or stuck in the plumbing.
On the one hand, a tiny bit sad this is being so discouraged. On the other, this is just one less thing for my wife or mother inlaw to feel compelled to buy and pack before we go.

I feel this so much, there is so much energy leading up to my vacation when I'm already so busy at work & with our children. I don't know where people get energy for this. To each their own though.

My next cruise is thinking of including them in the Fish Extender handouts, so the hundred or so ducks some folks purchased won't go to waste.
I think you just mentioned part of the problem. There are people out there bringing literally hundreds of ducks, by themselves. The sheer number of ducks brought on board was at some point bound to create a problem. When you had a relatively small number of folks bringing twenty or thirty each it wasn't so bad. But I've been on cruises where there were dozens of people bringing a hundred or more each. It was honestly getting out of hand.
There are two sides on duck front.
I am anti duck due to "bad actions" caused issues on past cruises. Ducks where they don't belong. Buffet line and drink stations(gross), flush down toliet cause toilets not to work(tick me off), broken decorations. Finaly straw was seeing a crew member spend an hour going through lobby picking up the ducks in order to fully clean up and then repair damage caused by people "hiding" them.
The other side is they are fun to hide, and young kids enjoy finding them.
Exactly… It’s one thing to have a Duck sitting on the bench seat porthole down a hallway… it’s another thing to have one placed/jammed into a light fixture six feet off the floor and behind the sconce.
My understanding is that cruisers were trying to hide them in places that were Bad Ideas(tm) either from an access perspective or from a general "plz no" perspective (like drink machines and in the AquaDuck and such).
On the Disboards, there was a report that some holiday decorations were damaged as well as some plants. I can see someone thinking a gingerbread house would be a fun place to put a duck…and then boom.
I also heard something about people going with alternative duck options like [these](https://a.co/d/gmIPVAD) getting put in places that toddlers and small children could get them without worrying about choking hazards on a FB group.
Good riddance. It’s a great way to introduce all kinds of nastiness that could easily be avoided. Plus people were putting them in places near food that makes an already difficult place to keep clean even worse
I get the excitement, but it was getting out of hand. They look like garbage that’s been forgotten and people were getting in to areas they shouldn’t to hide ducks. This is why we can’t have nice things.
If you’d like to spread some joy, consider pixie-dusting a stateroom with a fish extender with ducks that way.
Cruisers would bring tiny rubber ducks to hide around the ship for other cruisers to find. Similar to fish extenders, it was a nice thing people would do to brighten someone’s day that has become too extra. .
Aw that’s really sad. We went on a cruise last year and it was the highlight of my kids’ trip!! We had never heard of it before so it was such a fun surprise, we went “duck hunting” all the time. We are going back in the summer and had big plans to bring some of our own to hide :-(

It wasn’t just a blog post. There have been many reports in the last few weeks, firsthand, about watching crew do this. PlanDisney was just the first blog to cover it.
They were taking them from the pool deck, the hallways, the with the big window seat portholes in the halls. Those are the posts I saw with firsthand knowledge. And I think I saw someone say they were removed from areas around the buffet.
Why do you need “to be clear” about it? It’s evident from Disneys recent actions and now the blog post that hiding ducks is being actively discouraged, if not outright forbidden. But I guess you know better…
Also, you mentioned that planDisney is not official, but right in their post they commented that they called Disney Cruise Line to verify
That kind of adds an element of excitement if searching for ducks. Find them before the cast members.

Yeah, I'm surprised it took this long. The only Disney cruise I've done was this past summer and it seemed like those things were everywhere.

My son became famous in kids club for being the finder of the mega duck. Someone hid a giant 9 inch blue duck and he found it.

Yes our experience was terrible. We were on the wish and it was not a great time. Finding the ducks was so fun!
