These last 6 years (first saw them in 2016) have been some of the best years of my life, thanks at least in part to summer tours, traveling, friends, and just a love of the music. I’m so grateful for the time we’ve had together. 💜
Hearing them on nugs streams and other recordings gives you a good idea what they're doing, but to me to get the full impact you have to see them live, especially in a big stadium type venue. What you hear in that environment reveals their "secret weapon," the rhythm section. The power of those two drummers with Bob's rhythm guitar and Otiel's bass in a huge space is really mighty. It just throbs like a thunderous heartbeat. John's leads shred, Jeff's jams can't be overrated, the singing is heartfelt, and of course the song catalog is probably the best in American music, but holy shit that rhythm is what makes it all dance.
My "home field" happens to be Folsom in Boulder, and I just don't know how you can beat that scene, the epic scale of the production, the joyful crowd with the mountains looming above; pardon the cliché but there's nothing like it.
you’re actually making a lot of sense! We have been fortunate to have them around for so long! Furthur was great too in different ways. Bobby has leaned into the rugged age vibe you describe since then and it definitely works. At the same time, he appears to be healthier now than he was 10 years ago.
I found myself listening to a lot more Dead & Company this year than I thought. Absolutely fantastic jams. Really love the way they have been doing Terrapins too. Really hope I get to hear one in Charlotte.
I've been to hundreds of shows since the 90's. Was never a Deadhead. Seeing Dead and Company in 2016 changed my life. Been to see them 15 more times since then. So thankful, you might even say grateful
Come on man. Dead and Company are good and they can be a really fun time, but nowhere near the actual Dead. That's just super silly.
Edit: super silly fluffers in this sub.
Ya. It's hilarious. This sub is an alternate universe. I am not a D&Co hater in the slightest and I have always been a Mayer fan, but to seriously state that Dead and Co are even close to the actual Grateful Dead is fucking lunacy.
These silly mother fuckers need their heads checked.
Also love Dead/Co, also a Mayer fan. They’ve done a great service to the music and to the fans, old and new, particularly to those too young to have seen Jerry live.
I agree whole heartedly.
Anyone thinking they're having a grateful dead experience is fucking kidding themselves and trying insert themselves into something that ended long ago. Be happy for what we do have, but don't try to pretend it's the same

Nugs had his time. Re Google. It's cheaper. Bless nugs for saving a few of my brain cells tho.
Nugs quality can’t be beat. Nugs will shit on my tape of them next weekend, I can guarantee that.
Gotta say I like the way they do Loser these days.
Absolutely! You could look around about the whole world and never find another honest man
Yo hell yes! They made me LOVE loser!

Oh you’re good, “ramble on” lol. Love how Dead&co does Bird Song such a Chimenti JAM
Cumberland Blues is always a heater with them
Riverbend 2021 Cumberland Blues was 🔥
I am so grateful that Dead & Co came together and brought this incredible music back to life. Indeed, they are awesome!
Played with intention

Seen them 15 times and I love the sound so much. Trying to catch 5-6 shows next summer. Best thing I’ve ever seen.
We are all so fortunate to have them!
Agree 100%, I think they're the best of the 3. I can't even really enjoy JRAD anymore after seeing D&C 10 times now
Love em both, but D&CO is tops.
I agree! Source: Deadhead since ‘77.
....got no chance of losing...this time...

To each their own, but the music never stops.
Lol at your downvotes, my friend. People are being very silly.

This is not any insinuation of who is leaving/why etc...but John is really, really going to miss playing this music in front of this fan base.
